Greetings DeMuer and DeMuer affiliates! The past week or so I've been working on a bit of a love letter to what I regarded as a very fun and very special SL centered around refugees caught up in a legal battle by a corrupt firm that was extorting them for their finances and leaving them homeless for a period of time. Oh my! It was my idea to relocate them to Saint Aldwin as a means for me to move writing and RPing to there at some point and explore this lush world my friend had been pouring so many buckets of his creativity into, but it never got that far. I got busy with other things and was not the most focused player on this site by any means, and I assume Alain-mun was also busy. Years have gone by, characters have aged and matured, and we as writers have aged and matured (I hope!), and moving on to other things now, I still had this itch that I had to scratch. Sure the refugees were saved, sure they were relocated, and sure it was fine that all of this was either vapored or subtly mentioned. But no one had gone on the ground and visited them and confirmed firsthand just what became of the refugees from the "shelter camps of the Northern Forest of Rhy'Din." What resulted turned into this modest love letter I feel to bring a believable, informative, cute, and respectful conclusion to what happened after the Camp: Devotion SL, and just what became of its players.
It is one of my fondest memories writing the tail ends of that particular story, and seeing its details referenced and plugged and mentioned here and there afterward were some of the most joyous feelings from my collaborative experiences on this site - no doubt inspiration behind what enabled to me to see this particular project through. It was also my great adoration for Alain-mun, who despite my not being able to keep up with his impressive vocabulary (remember my brain rebooting when you explained what a thinktank was?), continued to communicate and interact with me. I'm indebted to him for his kindness, and friendship, and I hope we can chat again some day and write together again. Until then, however, I hope anyone familiar with the Vanderhorst scandal will check out this short I threw together. If not, that's okay. I'd love to polish it a little more, but it'll have to do for right now. :)
Up Around the Blend
Such moments in this story include respectful homage to a scene from Backdraft I always envisioned Vanderhorst's arrest going like. I relayed it to Alain-mun how he should be arrested, mentioning the film, and to my disappointment he informed me he hadn't seen it! Well, though spoiler-ish, I have pulled the scene from the wonders of the internet, and it can be viewed Here. Imagine, if you will, a crisp Baron of Saint Aldwin entering a press conference of the Villainous Vanderhorst with his trusty Dwarven Mountain Lord comrade in tow, the Knights of the Holy Order of St. Aldwin behind him, slapping the evidence down on the table for everyone to see and then taking the crook to justice! Oh I saw this scene clear as day when it first came to me, and it was my joy to finally tell it (in smaller detail) with this story.
As with Saint Aldwin geography, I tried to respectfully avoid mentioning things I had little or no knowledge of, and the liberties I did take with the world of Drasill I tried to also be respectful and modest with what I engineered. I tried to do my research. :)
The story was fun, and is not necessarily nor does it have to be considered canon. It was something, however, I felt I had to write. So again, I hope you enjoy, Scott. All my love my dear friend. Let's talk soon.
Happy writing.
