Hey folks! Stuff's kinda ground to a halt as far as posting. It's tough to concentrate on pouring out stuff on my lonesome during the holiday season, even though I've been pretty stymied for much longer. Hopefully after Christmas I'll have something to impart on the whole scenario.
I jumped in with both legs when I created Geist, using only a pic yoinked from styleos' portfolio site, some vague allusions to alchemy, and resurrection as themes. Sometimes I wonder if I got too excited with him, with all of these hopes for the character that just keep falling through. I alternate on considering him an aloof, yet good-natured samaritan, and a bitter, petulant nihilist, yet ultimately, there's this knowledge that the character himself is hollow. He's a feeling, a setting, a series of events, but he has no real heart under it, and frankly doesn't give a damn. It's really trying to play a character like that, a character who is All Soul, and thus has no soul. "When all is god, there is no god."
I'm glad that people seem to like him, that they enjoy his antics and his idiosyncrasies, yet whenever I play him, all that comes through is contempt. It's tough to play that, to confront that undercurrent with such a jovial persona. I don't know what I'm going to do with him, really. He has no real story, at this point; he's a character on the map with a "!" over his head that everyone else can get a quest from. We'll see what happens.
