((This is kind of a gruping of music inspired works that have no baring on anything at all, kind of a collage of works that bit and bit hard until I put them down on 'paper'. Sorry if none of it gose with any of the storylines being writen currently.))

Once more upon the waters! yet once more!
And the waves bound beneath me as a steed
That knows his rider. Welcome to their roar!
Swift be their guidance, wheres oe'er it lead!
Though the strained mast should quiver as a reed,
And the rent canvas fluttering strew the gale,
Still must I on; for I am as a weed,
Flung from the rock, on Ocean's foam, to sail
Where'er the surge may sweep, the tempest's breath prevail.

? Lord Byron

The boat pitched and rolled beneath the crashing waves of the ocean swells that marked the line between that world and this. The nexus they called it, a point that linked thousands of worlds together, and the point where the Jolly Miss had been almost rent in two from bow to stern. Maria hated water travel, her fingers bit tightly into the railing of the main stair as she pulled herself up deck, ducking her head as a wave crashed over the port railing, soaking everyone above deck.

Maria shook her head and pushed now soaked hair out of her face as she pushed herself forward. Rushing to the starboard rail to grip the padded leather top with all her might and looked out at the churning sea then up at the dark storm clouds above, the storm raging above. The rain stung her eyes. Behind her she could hear the captain shouting orders to his men as others below deck rushed out to the relative safety of the outside world.

Maria was aghast at the whole idea that being below deck was so much more unsafe, then being up here as she looked around her. From somewhere a rough, sea worn hand, grabbed her upper arm and propelled her back to the middle of the ship, her body colliding unsteadily with the other passengers. She gathered her footing only to lose it again as another swell lurched the ship's bow high in the air, seeming to just float there for a second in what almost seemed to be a pause in all movement, all noise, as if the world had taken a silent breath, holding it in fear of realising the power of the world on the small helpless ship, then suddenly with a strong gust of wind that for a second deflated the main sail, then in the next refilled the sail straining the mast to the breaking point, the ships nose plunged.

Water rushed over the bow of the ship, rushing forward towards the trembling mass of passengers. From somewhere in the darkness animals screamed in fear. Hooves smashed on the deck from where horses were tethered, chickens flapped useless wings inside the wire cages, pigs screeched and a couple dogs bayed lunging on the ends of their leads, mere seconds before the water consumed the cacophony. Maria found herself thrown back as the wave hit the group, throwing her back against the cabin doors as the ship continued its terrifying decent into the waters below.

Again everything for a moment was still and silent, water blurred Maria's vision, salt stinging her vision, bubbles surrounded her, then she could the attempted screams of others as they tried to swim for it as the ship started to rise again, the heavy wooden vessel carrying its passengers back up with it, sending those onboard back into the deck with painful results. Maria felt the air rush from her lungs as she collided with the deck of the ship as air once more found the ship on top of the water instead of under it, once more beginning to climb the next swell, precariously starting to turn broad side to the wave.

Maria could hear screams all around her, men were missing, thrown into the water, the captain was clinging to the wheel, screaming orders as loud as he could, fighting to turn the ship into the cresting wave, a battle he could not win. She knew it, she could see it in the strain in his arms, he was braced but the wheel was not moving. The young Asian sucked in a painful breath and struggled to her feet once more and pushed her hair again away from her face. She could see everyone looking around in panic as they tried to find a safe place on the ship as she slowly started to lean to port, the whole ship creaked with the strain, moaning out her death throws mere seconds before a loud cracking noise echoed over the sound of the storm, drawing eyes heaven-wards.

Maria's eyes widened as she watched the main sails lose their toughtness once more, this time to begin collapsing onto themselves as the mast was broken in two as if it were nothing more then a match stick. Maria gasped as the huge four foot round mast crashed down onto the port rail, ripping a huge hole in the side of the ship as the wave crashed over the starboard rail of the ship, pushing her with the might of the gods as the four masted vessel was thrown over onto her port side, water rushing into the gash along her side, her rigging keeping the massive mainsail attached to the dieing ship, the ropes tangling anything that got near them.

Maria found herself once more surrounded by water as she was thrown down into the ocean swells, the sinking ship mere feet from where the waters now threatened to drown her.

Maria felt the waters around her consume her, pulling her under, her robe and dressing gown pulling her under. Her evening had been interrupted by the sounds of men on deck shouting down to those below to come on deck or risk drowning. She had been one of the first on deck, she hadn?t been asleep like the others, rather she had been up reading, unable to find the comfort of sleep on the long trip from the Indian coast to the seas of Rhy-Din, too many things had been on her mind to find peace in dreams. Now forever sleep threatened her if she couldn?t fight her way back to the surface.

Rushing against the string currents and ropes that continuously threatened to entangle her, Maria somehow managed to free herself from her heavy robe and kicking off her slippers from her feet, she forced her way back to the surface of the water. She could hear others near by, shouting and screaming for help from the bitter cold, some clung to pieces of the ship, luggage that floated up from the vessel that was quickly disappearing below the waves. Above lightening lit the skies and a distance off Maria could just make out land.

With a determination she didn't know she possessed, the strong woman began swimming kicking her way free of the riggings and people trying to cling to her for help she began the long journey towards the distant dark outline of land.

It was approaching dawn before the storm let up, throwing free a half drown young woman onto the shores of the beach that had been nothing but a black outline hours ago. How the slip of a woman had managed to keep going could be debated, Maria herself would never truly know, but she had made it, and tugging herself those last few feet to dry land was more then she thought she could do. But do it she did as she collapsed on to the dry sands of the beach and promptly passed out. Her soaking wet clothes clung to her every curve, the white silk, rising and falling with every rise of her tired breath as the warm sun started its assent into the early morning sky, warming and drying the sands and their newest treasure spew from the seas of Rhy-Din.

Water came to rebuke the too clear water.
One drop fell from a fern, and lo, a ripple
Shook whatever it was lay there at bottom,
Blurred it, blotted it out. What was that whiteness?
Truth? A pebble of quartz? For once, then, something.

Robert Frost

As if awaking a dream, Maria's eyes slowly opened, the pain in her bones and muscle was almost more then she could take as her breath came in ragged gasps. Slowly she pushed herself up, looking around her. The warm summer sun was now streaming from high in the sky, warming her already tanned skin. With an unsteady lurch she got to her feet and looked out at the water that had tried to kill her just a few hours ago. She could see Rhy-Din not far off on her right, the docks busy ships moving in and out of berths. No question the ship that had sunk was on the minds of those working away.

Shaking her head she started down the beach padding bare foot, crossing her arms over her chest, around her everywhere was debris from the ship wreck, but she didn't seem to see any of it, she was lost almost, like a victim of some great castrophy, shell-shocked from noticing that around her. She was cold, tired, and in pain, her body almost at the breaking point, her mind focused on one single objective, getting home to the safety of her rooms.

As she approached the city in the morning light, no one seemed to give her more then a glance. Just another poor retch who was down on their luck in a soiled gown that was all that was left to her belongings. Little did they know, she pushed on, padding barefoot to the hotel she had a room rented at. She ignored the look of the door man as he watched her, his eyes roaming over her as if unsure of stopping her, but he didn't. She made b-line for her room, wanting badly to just get herself to a place where she could get into clothing and get in contact with those who were expecting her.

((This one bit while I was watching Signal, a video done for Serenity))

Maria entered the room, her coat billowing around her ankles, her stride full of purpose, her dark eyes taking in everything, her hands fisted at her sides. The Asian stopped suddenly, her feet spread just slightly, anger flashing in her eyes as she took it in, all of it, the blood, the death, the retched smell of decay. There was nothing living here, nothing to be save, souls lost forever, lost in the abyss of some madman's dream.

Seconds passed as if minutes, as if life times as she took in every face, every look, fear, outrage, hatred. Then she was moving, crossing the room towards the only thing still moving. It wasn?t alive, nothing that could do this would be. Some where her sword had appeared in her hand as if an extension of herself. The shadow pulled away, a scream of rage so loud and shrill it made one want to cower in fear, hands over their ears, but not her. Maria raised her weapon, bringing it down in one vicious decisive blow, shredding the creature in its tracks.
