Lillianna

Lillianna chartered a carriage to take her to the address on the card that MaryRead had given her the day before.

She stepped out of the carriage when it came to a stop and walked to the front to pay the driver for his service before turning toward a pare of immense Gothic style black wrought iron gates flanked by two golden dragons with flashing ruby tipped diamond fangs, one of which (she saw on closer inspection) served as the Bonny Corporation's mail box.

Next to the gates there was a button with a plaque underneath that read

"Welcome to the Bonny Corporation,
Please ring the bell and we will be down shortly to escort you in"

She straightened her clothing, smoothing out the annoying wrinkles that had been pressed into her skirt while she was riding in the carriage. She wasn't sure what to think of the large building that stood past the gates, it was an intimidating sight. She took a deep breath and summoned two mostly trusted spirits to invisibly guard, she didn't want to threaten, yet she could not afford to not be on her guard.

Once her preparations were complete she reached up her hand and pushed the button to ring the bell, then stood waiting for Mary or another of the Bonny Corporation to come out of the building.

Mary was so thrilled at the arrival of her new guests her eyes shifted to a blue-green. She had already prepared herself for business by wearing a sexy custom made suit and a fedora. Her wild hair was pinned up but loosely so the ends trailed down the side of her shoulder. A few stray strands drifting out of the casual up-do and down into her face as she moved with that impossible vampiric speed down to meet her. Slowing to a casual pace a respective distance down the sidewalk from Lillianna.

She smiled brightly to Lillianna on approach, eyes sparkling like the shallows of the ocean in the sunlight. ?I?m so pleased you came to call on me. We have a high level of security, as we believe one can never be too cautious, so you?ll have to come in through the side entrance.? Said as she offered an arm to the lady to escort her to the warehouse next door.

Lillianna would notice a number of strange security devices to one side but the only one needed right now was a key pad, which a code was swiftly entered in. The door would open and as she walked her inside to the elevator she began to tell her about the Bonny Corporation. ?Me and my former partner, the Lady Anne Bonny, began this business back on earth a few centuries ago.?

As the elevator arrived she would lead Lillianna inside, typing in another series of the buttons that would transport them. ?We desired to carve out our own nitch in a male dominated world. The Bonny Corporation has been mostly comprised of women, though respectful and worthy men also are a part of the company. We extended a branch to Rhy?Din ? a new world full of new opportunities - this past decade. The hierarchy has generally been in the hands of vampires, though we are fortunate to count a number of different races among our ranks.?

The door on the opposite side of the elevator opened and lead to a hallway inside the office building. Waiting in line on the sides were their blood slaves. Exotic women of all colors and forms of beauty standing still and silent despite the excitement they had when they knew they may be about to be of service. Their hearts beating swiftly as they displayed themselves in their scantily clad outfits.

Mary indicated them with a casual wave of the hand. ?In case you desire something fresh you may have one, or all, if you like.? Mary paused to give a chance for Lillianna to pick any. In which case she would signal for the selected to follow into the conference room.

The conference room was large for such a small meeting and luxurious. Leather couches and tables lined with many forms of drink, including one devoted entirely to bottles of different forms of blood. Mary lifted one and poured two glasses with a smile. ?The aged blood of an alcoholic who drank only fine Bourbon. I made sure we had some on hand for you.? Said with a quick wink as she offered the drink to her.

Lillianna would also notice other tables lined with drugs of all kinds and devices for using them. Including a Hookah that appeared out of place such a classy atmosphere. It was a skull with a jesters hat. Mary was in a friendly mood so she decided to explain to her about the apparently out of place item. The necromancer would recognize that it was a representation of the voodoo Lord of the Dead, whose name was never to be spoken. ?We refer to it as the Kindly Baron as a term of respect, also what we refer to the one it represents.? It had been a favored smoking device of their last necromancer and they had kept it around ever since.

Mary would take a sip of the blood she had poured, watching Lillianna intently with a soft glow in those preternatural eyes, before returning to business. ?I can give you a tour of the place later but I thought we should sit and talk a moment. We have not had a real chance to get to know each other yet and now we are within the safest walls in all of Rhy?Din, perhaps we can speak more openly.?

?I know I do go on when I get excited?. Please, tell me a little about yourself.? Mary opened her magic to listen to Lillianna?s blood. Hoping to hear her emotions, to get a read on her feelings and truth of her words. Also to listen to any memories that may be revealed by them.

Lillianna turned at Mary?s arrival, she loved the obvious grace and speed that the vampires had inherited, it truly was a beautiful and useful thing. Mary smiled at her, her eyes were a sparkling dark blue-green today, and said ?I?m so pleased you came to call on me. We have a high level of security, as we believe one can never be too cautious, so you?ll have to come in through the side entrance.? She offered her arm to Lillianna, just as a gentleman or close friend would.

She smiled as she took Mary?s offered arm and walked with her toward a warehouse that stood next door, ?I would agree, you can never have enough security.?

She looked around herself as Mary typed in a code on a little keypad situated among many strange looking devices next to the door, she wondered what the other things were for, but did not feel that now was the time to ask. The door opened and they entered what looked like an elevator with a set of doors both in the front and the back. Mary began to explain about the Bonny Corporation ?Me and my former partner, the Lady Anne Bonny, began this business back on earth a few centuries ago.?

The door at the back of the elevator opened up to reveal a hallway inside the office building. Waiting in line on the sides were their blood slaves. Exotic women of all colors and forms of beauty standing still and silent despite the excitement they had when they knew they may be about to be of service. Their hearts beating swiftly as they displayed themselves in their scantily clad outfits. The smell of their blood was very strong, and almost intoxicating.

Mary indicated them with a casual wave of the hand. ?In case you desire something fresh you may have one, or all, if you like.? Mary paused to give a chance for Lillianna to pick any. She felt the temptation, but at the moment her curiosity was stronger than her desire for pleasure, or blood. She inclined her head and smiled appreciatively, ?I will keep that in mind, maybe later I will find one among them,? she said ?right now I am very interested in learning more about you and the Bonny Corporation, if it is not too impertinent of me to inquire.?

They entered a large conference room adorned by leather couches and tables lined with many forms of drink, including one devoted entirely to bottles of different forms of blood. Mary lifted one and poured two glasses with a smile. ?The aged blood of an alcoholic who drank only fine Bourbon. I made sure we had some on hand for you.? Said with a quick wink as she offered the drink to her.

Lillianna took the drink with a smile, ?I appreciate your hospitality,? she said ?this is a very pleasant surprise, one that I did not expect to find any time soon.? She turned to survey the room and noticed that there were other tables lined with drugs of all kinds and devices for using them. Including a Hookah that appeared out of place such a classy atmosphere. It was a skull with a jester?s hat. She looked at it interestedly. The necromancer recognized that it was a representation of the voodoo Lord of the Dead, whose name was never to be spoken. ?We refer to it as the Kindly Baron as a term of respect, also what we refer to the one it represents.?

She sipped the glass of blood in silence as she looked around, this was a place that she could approve of. She was startled out of her thoughts by Mary?s voice as she spoke again, ?I can give you a tour of the place later but I thought we should sit and talk a moment. We have not had a real chance to get to know each other yet and now we are within the safest walls in all of Rhy?Din, perhaps we can speak more openly.?

They moved to a couch off to the side, and Lillianna sank gratefully into the soft cushions, though the comforts, meant to put one at ease, made her a little more on edge and she pulled the spirits, still invisible, closer to herself.

?I know I do go on when I get excited?. Please, tell me a little about yourself.? Mary opened her magic to listen to Lillianna?s blood.
Where to begin? Lillianna thought with a wry smile, the whole truth would not do, not yet.

?I have very recently moved here to Rhy?Din, actually the night before I met you,? she began, ?there really is not much of my life before that is worth telling.? For a second a vision of a pair of grey eyes shining with power and love broke through her thoughts before she could hide them, and with them came such a feeling of sadness and loss, and yet of freedom and purpose all at once. She straightened her shoulders and spoke again. ?I grew tired of my old life and had heard much of this city of Vampires and thought that this would be the best place for me to start a new one.?

?I am very interested in you and the Bonny Corporation though,? she continued, ?What exactly is it that you do here? Besides be the most welcoming place that I have ever visited. Your story has to more interesting than mine.?

She smiled in response to that. She knew Lillianna?s life was probably far more interesting than she was letting on but vampires were known for being secretive. Not being intrusive was one of the only ways they could get along so she let her questions drop.

?I wouldn?t really call this a city of vampires? There aren?t as many as there once was in fact. But this is a city of many mythic creatures either unknown on Earth or on the brink of extinction and even some that may not have ever really existed there. There is much to learn here as there are many races and many cultures all brought together in this place.? Her eyes grew a deep blue; a very thoughtful color for her as she reflected on when she first came to Rhy?Din and everything had been so new to her.

?It?s hard to know who to trust? and so we set up shop here not just for matters of business but as a means of creating a surrogate family of sorts. Bringing together people that could look out for each other. I like diversity in our people and their skills so we all have something unique to offer." Eyes locked with Lillianna, watching and listening to her reactions still.

?We are into a little bit of everything. All our people tend to specialize in different fields and bring different things to the table. We?re all about creative problem solving and finding new ways of expanding influence and power so we can better protect each other and assure a good life here.? She took a sip of wine but kept her eyes on Lillianna curiously.

?We have a few high level positions open right now actually? I am reorganizing the company and its power structure. If you are interested in a job we have opportunities we can offer you.?

Lillianna looked back at her interestedly ?What kind of positions?? she asked, ?I mean, what would be required of me if I joined? I am still not very sure what it is that is done here.? She would not agree to anything without more information, which at the moment was being strangely elusive. Mary was almost as bad as an angel when it came to answering direct questions.

Damn this whole fitting in challenge, it would be so much easier to use her authority to demand the answers that she wanted, but no that wouldn?t do, not here at least.

She stood up and began to walk about the room wondering just how much about her this woman knew, the way that Mary had been looking so intently in to her eyes told her that she had to have figured at least a couple of things out, it wouldn?t be too hard to figure out that she was a necromancer, that would be obvious to anyone who knew what to look for.

She decided that there was no point in worrying, after all her mind was much too guarded to reveal things that she did not want found out.

She turned back to Mary, ?please don?t get me wrong,? she continued, ?I am interested, I just like to know what is expected of me.? She flashed a friendly smile at Mary hoping that he tension hadn?t been too clear, she liked having a friend and didn?t want to lose that too quickly, it had been a long time.

Mary couldn?t help but smile. So despite Lillianna?s desire to keep things to herself she also could be straight forward. That was something Mary could appreciate. Mary had always hated having to dance around things.

?Let us be direct then. Being involved in many questionable activities one becomes accustomed to not saying too much but if you want to be frank then let us be so.? Mary finished off what was left of her wine and set the glass down.

?First off we have our hand in anything we can turn a profit at, hence why we created Club Babylon. That is where people of all kinds can come to indulge themselves with any vice or deviant behaviors we can provide to them. We also work on technologies and magics for weapons, though we like to hope this will only ever be needed for defense though maybe the right bidder??

?My God-daughter, who I am appointing CEO, has been using information from files we obtained on a person we call patient X in order to develop medicines, vaccines, and cures for magical and non magical diseases. It will hopefully bring a little good publicity and help us with the image of being a company that contributes more to the society here, helping people. While making a profit at it."

Mary was going on now but she just kept on. Lillianna had asked for answers so she figured she?d do it as fully as possible without spending all night. ?We are always looking for new business partners to make mutually beneficial arrangements for trade and what not. It?s hard to cover everything we do because we do a lot. If you decide to work with us, as a high level employee, you will know all that we know.?

Mary?s blue eyes were cold as ice as she stared at Lillianna but her expression was softened by a kind smile. ?Until that time I think I?ve said more than I probably should and I think you can probably understand my need to keep some secrets until there is no need for secrets any longer.?

A slight head tilt as she considered her words for a minute before deciding to finish laying it out there for her. ?I happen to be in need of a staff necromancer. It is a high level position, as I said? You?d be considered part of the inner circle. Your job could entail as much or as little as you wanted for the most part? Your capabilities can be applied in so many ways??

?We could use spirits or walking dead or any number of creatures to help protect us. Or you can use the spirits to watch and listen, to give warning if there comes a time where the need arises?? A shrug was given, ?Mainly precautionary stuff that but invaluable all the same. But I would leave it to you to decide how to handle matters in your field.?

As the topic turned so did Mary?s eyes. Shifting to a sad and dark brown? There was pain there that showed no where else. Her expression and voice did not waver or betray her the way her eyes did. But here it was, the important part, the reason they needed Lillianna.

?However, if one of the family were to die then we would require your help then. We have a system for cloning, should their body be beyond repair, and even are capable of computerizing a persons memories. But it isn?t them without their soul?? Trailing off for only a moment before her eyes shifted back to that thoughtful deep blue. ?You would be called on to guide that person back into their body.?

She poured herself another glass and leaned back as she watched Lillianna, she had wanted it straight and here it was. ?If something terrible were to befall one of our people then we need to be prepared? That would be what we would expect of you.?

Lillianna listened with a small smile playing about her lips, only moving to take a sip of her blood every now and then. As Mary mentioned the need for a staff necromancer her smile became genuine, she had hoped that Mary would catch that and would have been very disappointed if she had not. All that Mary said sounded plausible, the job was interesting enough, and now that she knew more of what she was agreeing to, and what she could get away with, she could agree. Besides there were many who walked these halls that she was interested in, they were the reason that she came here after all.

?It would be a pleasure to join your company, and family,? she said a moment after Mary had finished ?family means everything to me.? She continued with a wink in Mary?s direction.
She crossed back to where Mary was sitting and sat a small distance away from her, facing her new ?boss? and held out her hand in a very business-like fashion. ?where do we begin, as we have now come to an agreement??

Mary took Lillianna hand and shook it with a warm smile. ?All we ask for new people is to fill out the company survey for our records. I?ll show you around and you can pick out a place for your office and home. Whether you live in it or not I find it very convenient to have one.?

?I?ll be calling a board meeting for the members of our inner circle to attend soon. There everyone will be introduced to each other and our future agendas will be discussed. Until then... Make yourself at home.?
