Topic: The Bonny Corporation - Board Meeting

Anne sat in the luxuriously appointed boardroom of her beloved ship, the Bonny Anne. It had been Mary's ship for years, the name a tribute to the beloved partner who could not always be with her. But things had changed. Now Anne was engaged to Mary Read, her Sweet Mary. Though both had their bolt-holes and sanctuaries, in the paranoid way of the sane vampire, their waking hours were spent together on the ship.

Anne's own ship, the Murderess, had been lost to sea... lost in a strange storm of her estranged daughter's devising. No matter. A new and better ship was being built even now, smaller but luxuriously appointed - a swift craft for escape and leisure. The shell was being assembled by expert shipwrights in Earth's 17th century (that had taken some arranging) but there was still the question of where to find the mages and the tech to complete the design. An interesting challenge, but far from impossible. That's what the Bonny Corporation did: it solved problems, took care of business, and made money however it could.

The Bonny Corporation. Based out of Earth, it was a semi-independent organization that had its fingers in every promising pie. They were under the dubious supervision of Anne's mentor and sire, a Frenchman with a flamboyant sense of style. It was on his suggestion that Anne had traveled to Rhy'din. The Corporation already imported some few prized commodities from the Nexus-world. It was time to take the next step, and get down to business on this front.

That was what this board meeting was about: to discuss the future goals and current organization of the mad, anarcho-syndicalist Corporation. The Corporation was ruthless but not without its morality, anarchic yet hierarchical, mercurial but with astonishing focus for temporary objectives. The Corporation was the Man, it was Big Brother, it was an organization that condescended to the Mafia and had dinner parties with the Illuminati. They had Earth in the palm of their hand, and still wanted more. An unpredictable beast, the Corporation.

Anne Bonny loved the Corporation with all her heart, just as she loved Mary. There was no contradiction; Anne was the Corporation, and Mary was her honored helpmeet, her partner in all things. Anne loved the unpredictability, and the chaos, and the casual occasional cruelties.

She had been born to rich parents, in a society where domination and manipulation were a way of life. Those parents were long-dead, but their heartless sadism still lay hidden just beneath her skin. She was always a breath away from killing... someone... but she had excellent self-control. It made her a perfect head of the Corporation. Also, she was difficult to kill, a quality that she assumed would soon be very useful.

Chen Pan, Anne Bonny's Chinese man-servant, entered the boardroom. His manner was respectful and attentive; he was submissive to Anne in all matters, but the heart of his submission was his great love for her. The fact that Anne fed from him regularly only enhanced his infatuation. He bowed his head deeply upon seeing his Mistress, the long hair around his lean Asian face flopping forward.

"Chen Pan." Anne gave him a smile of rare benevolence. "We are having a meeting here this evening - business associates and friends. Chill some champagne and see to the wine, as well as water. Prepare two of the servants for dining, there are more of my kind joining us. Anabel should prepare the most impressive dinner she can, and I'd like the food-servants to serve it."

She paused, thinking a moment. "And put some candles on the table, eh? Ambiance."

Chen Pan nodded again and set off to take care of these necessary preparations. Anne looked fondly around her boardroom, the place where so many lucrative and interesting deals were transacted. The table and sideboard were made of dark brown wood: eroded by water to be slick and hard, then cut into interesting shapes and lacquered to a dark shine. The silk wallpaper was gold and cream in a tasteful filigree, with lace hangings worked in purple and gold. The Bonny family colors appeared also in the boardroom chairs, cream leather stitched with gold, on a frame of wood stained a deep violet color.

Anne's own chair, and Mary's at the other end of the table, were larger than the others - ornate thrones. They were the senior members of the Corporation, equal in status only to Father Nicholai. Everyone attending the meeting, however, was a friend or someone greatly respected - Mary, Nicholai and Ariana, Brandon and Alana if they could make it, Lord Joruus if he condescended to come. Anne wanted everything to be perfect.

But of course everything would go smoothly - why shouldn't it? She was here to run things, after all. She considered that this was not hubris or arrogance, but simply a reasonable recognition of her amazing abilities, and the quality of her employees. Hopefully the new hires would be almost as good as the people she already had. The Corporation was about to expand in a major way.

Mary Read hesitated a moment at the door to the boardroom, but she told herself that was silly. This was her ship, and had been for more than 300 years.... or however long it was. Time got confusing when you sometimes traveled in time and often through dimensions. It was much easier back when they were just pirates, and just traveled on the sea.

Mary entered the boardroom. Anne was already there to give her an approving smile for her plain but stylish black dress and boots. For the longest time, Mary had not cared about how she dressed, but Anne cared. She tried each day to be the woman that Anne thought her to be.

She took her seat at the other end of the long table, with a silent smile to her lover. She and Anne were finally back together as they had been meant to be. They had loved each other for so long. Anne had saved her life, and she had repaid that favor several times since. They had saved each other, when their city burned and vampires were hunted through the streets with flamethrowers.

Now they were going to get married. Life was looking up. And the Corporation, which Anne was so keen to expand? Well if it mattered to Anne.... Anne trusted her with a lot, and had complete faith in her reliability, whether defending a body or solving a problem. Mary was a person who loved people, someone who was completely honest and earnest, and this was sometimes very useful.

Her position in the company? Whenever anyone asked, Anne answered for her. "She's my fiancee" Anne would say, "so my business is her business." Then she would smile the sharp feral smile that did not invite questions. Anne's aura of danger, the predator that lay always awake in her, was part of what made her so irresistably attractive to Mary.

After getting lost several times on the way, he finally found the ship and stepped aboard. He looked around, and found himself to be lost once more. A helpful deckhand came over and pointed him in the correct direction. Heading that way, he couldnt help but be a bit sick as he did not spend alot of time on ships. Shaking his head a bit, he stopped, took a deep breath, looked at the horizon, and willed the ill feeling away. It would be no good showing any kind of weakness where he was going. Those women would eat him alive, though that in itself would not really be such a bad thing.

He opened the door, and stepped through. Seeing Anne and Mary already present, as well as a few servants and aides, he felt more comfortable. He was not late. He walked over to Mary, took her hand, and gently placed a single kiss on the back of it. Then, moving on to Anne, he repeated the gesture, letting the kiss linger just a bit longer.

"Ladies, allow me to introduce my dear companion, who will be joining us today. This," he said, pointing out the woman who had stayed at the door, knowing to wait for a direct invite before coming in, "is Ariana Laurea Tarcil. She is with me, in every way. She can be trusted."

He took a few more steps around the table, before finding a spot he liked, even though it seemed no different than any other seat. He gestured, and Ariana obediantly stepped forward, coming to his side. He nodded toward Mary, "Ariana, that there is Mary Read, a fair lover, but an amazing fighter. And there" gesturing to Anne. "Is Anne Bonny, the head of this little affair. These are the ladies that brought me here, I'm to oversee their wedding."

"You all know me I hope." He said, looking around to the various Aides. "I am Nicholai Crowley, and I am what could be seen as the religious advisor to the company, though my advice may not always come from the voices above. I play both sides of the field. Well, in religion that is." He grins over at Ariana, before taking a seat.

"So what is all the hubbub about boss lady? You realize if you needed some attention, you could have just come to my room at the Inn. I've made it quite nice."

Ariana was always happy to be at Nicholai's side. Coming to this meeting though was making her nervous because there were going to be others like her. She still didn't really understand the changes that had happened to her.

Fallen royalty, she never often looked back on her past. Trading what she had then in favor of a simple life seemed impossible. It actually got people killed until she found herself here. Able to start over but would she get the chance?

:: He had quite a bit of fun experiancing going through the portal hidden away to get to the ship, those lips of his grinning and smiling as he moved slowly form the portal and onto the deck of the ship his eyes looking about for the one Miss Bonny had instructed him to find so he would not get lost and so he would find the Board Room.....seeing the Chinese man he makes his way over to him his small but stead voice speaking to him::

Excuse me but Miss Bonny stated you could guide me to the Board Meeting?

:: He waited for the man to begin moving before he followed..dressed in a fine suit for this business like affair he was sure to keep away from any form of water possibly on the ship his right arm carrying a folder of two things..one his research of cryogenics..the second was the list of Businesses she requested and a map to Calmorun::

:: His eyes were on the back of the man as he followed his eyes shifting left and right to veiw the lovely ship with a large smile until he was blinking as the man stopped and opened the door for his entery. He grins a bit and makes his way into the room his head bowing to Miss Bonny since at the moment he only knew her out of the four that were currently there. His eyes however take pause to the breath taking room before him::

Miss Bonny....your Decor is..most appatizing to the eye..who is your designer?..Ohhh forgive my rudeness...my name is Brandon Lee Morgan. It is a pleasure to meet you all

:: A small bow of his head once more given to each before that bright smile comes over his lips::

Anne was in deep conversation with Nicholai, with Mary and Ariana listening intently, when Brandon entered. She glanced up at his entrance, and the cold intensity of her expression warmed immediately into a brilliant smile. The abruptness of the change in demeanor was startling, but her new manner was warm and congenial.

"Brandon, dear! So glad you could make it!" She gestured cordially to an open seat, and then beckoned discretely to the servants. Both of the beautiful women, smiling and garbed in pretty evening gowns, came to serve Brandon. One bore a tray with glasses of wine and flutes of champagne: the other had a small plate of savory delicacies.

Anne introduced Brandon first, giving a grand wave of her hand as she explained, "This is the man I was telling you about. A brilliant man... a great new asset to the Corporation." She smiled, and added, "A mortal, alas, but let's not be prejudiced about our differences."

Anne then introduced the others at the table, briefly. "This is Mary, my better half. Besides being my fiancee, she is my partner. Her main task is to keep a cool head when the rest of us are about to charge off on a mad mission."

She lowered her eyes in brief respect as she introduced the only other man. "This is Father Nicholai, our spiritual counselor. He fights for our souls as fiercely as he fights for our interests. A wise man, and utterly dependable. The woman is Ariana, one of his... disciples. She is still getting to know us, as you are."

About Brandon, she said, "Besides being our Idea Man, Brandon has some significant powers. He is quite capable at defending himself and his mind. He will not, of course, harm another, as he is quite pacifistic." Her eyes flashed over the others, warning them to take her words to heart and - what? - not scare him? Something like that.

The Corporation was like a person. It had its generous impulses, its actions that would be applauded and supported by good people. And it had its dark side. It had done some unspeakable things, acts that almost sickened even their perpetrators. But if they couldn't have a board meeting without alienating normal people, they had crossed the line. It was important that they be hard operators, without being thugs.

Anne paused as if graciously giving the others a moment to talk. Really, mentioning Brandon's powers had reminded her of something. Nicholai said that Ariana could be trusted, and Anne believed him - just as she believed her own gut instinct that Brandon was trustworthy. But if Ariana's mind could be picked apart by enemies, she was no better than a spy.

Anne sipped her champagne, the mechanical action covering her focus on an entirely different aim. Ruthlessly, she threw all of her power into an unexpected assault on Ariana's mind, trying to strip the secrets out of the young woman's soul.

Ariana violently overreacted, as amateurs will. In her panic, she did not just shield her memories, but THREW Anne out of her mind. Deafeningly, she screamed in Anne's mind: "GET OUT OF ME! GET OUT OF MY HEAD!"

Anne threw up her own barriers, which absorbed the force and sound of the attack. The unexpected quickness of Ariana's response surprised her, though, and her brief convulsion made her choke on a swallow of champagne. She sputtered a bit, covering her inelegant display by swiftly raising a snowy napkin to her face.

Seeing Anne's momentary distraction, and the panicked look on Ariana's face, Nicholai raised an eyebrow. "Is everything all right?" he asked, with his normal mix of facetious politeness.

"Everything is fine. Better than all right." Anne flashed her dazzling grin at her 'spiritual counselor', cheerful at knowing that all of her people had minds like locked chests. "So look around, all of you. The other people in this room are the only ones that can be trusted to protect your interests. You don't have to be friends, but we are all allies here."

She sipped her champagne more normally, relaxing. "So now, we all know each other. Let's talk business, eh?"

Anne flipped through her leather-bound notebook, her preferred method of data storage since her mortal days. For one thing, data security was as easy as protecting the current book, and burning the old ones.

"Let's see, the first item on the agenda: distribution channels. We have a hold full of luxury goods on a world full of money. Yet somehow we can't seem to find a buyer for our Earth commodities, and the last thing we want to do is become shopkeepers." That was really a shame. The silks and jars of spices would last, but the exotic birds were getting more neurotic every day, and who would want the opium if the bales dried out?

"Second area of concern: future-tech. We need access to technological worlds; buying space-toys from middle-men doesn't cut it anymore. Highest on our priority list is cryogenic equipment, but we also need to look into cloning, weather control, and all kinds of defense armaments. Our opponents may very well have access to these technologies already, and we need to equal their capabilites. Particularly if we are expanding."

She glanced to Brandon before continuing, "Third on the list: expansion opportunities. Besides expanding our import/export business, it would be good to back some fledgling moneymakers. Other areas for profit would of course be welcomed." She paused significantly, then added, "The Tropicana Sands has most rudely refused our offer of financial assistance or other aid. They wouldn't even come to dinner." Not-innocently, she finished, "So I think now might be the time to get into entertainment. Get people back in the bars and clubs, so they'll forget this pegasus nonsense."

"Fourth: we need to expand our charitable and spiritual influence, as part of our general commitment to disaster relief in Rhy'din. Nicholai, I would like you to spearhead the creation of a new spiritual organization, which offers guidance and aid to suffering Rhy'dinians. I'd advise a different figurehead, it's so wearying trying to keep up a good public face. Also, a good cause will prove our necessity to the people... until we have a better disaster to work with, I suggest focusing on the loose morality caused by gambling, and promoted by the sinners and addicts who haunt betting tracks."

She steepled her fingers, and looked around at her people. She had faith in their ability to solve any situation, and she had given them their priorities. "The floor is open. Please give me your insights into these pressing concerns. We must solve all of these problems promptly, for the sake of our financial future and our standing on Earth."

She softly added, "I do not have to remind you that Mr. Couteau is very interested in our progress, and he is not a patient man."

Alana was rather new here and she ran this way and that trying not to be late to the meeting. Although she knew she already was. She cursed low to herself and there she say it the Bonny Anne. She made her way on board and looked this way and that trying to find an entrance to the board room.
Alana didnt look much like herself. Her hair pulled back tightly and she looked as if she actually took into consideration what she wore. A long black peasent skirt billowed about in the wind. And just slightly above it she wore a white tunic. Her feet were bare as almost always and she looked about for someone to point her in the general direction of the meeting. She rememinded her self mentally to speak to Mary about easier directions,

She finally found her way. As a servant showed her in. She was very relieved knowing she wouldn?t have found her way to the board meeting herself. See Alana had a funny sense of direction and at this point she was desperate to find her way into that meeting. She was supposed to have been there sometime ago and as she knocked respectively on the door she didn?t know what she would say when she was questioned about why she was late. She always had tried to be prompt but today it too her as a bit of a surprise. She had changed and ran quite literally out the door to find the Bonny Anne. After a sufficient amount of time Alana stepped into the board room and looked about slowly recognizing everyone there. Aside from Arianna that is. She smiled lightly to all before taking her seat. Hoping a copy of the agenda would be passed to her so she would know just what it was that she had missed.
She didn?t even know the nature of this meeting as a matter of fact the young woman didn?t know anything at all about anything that was going on here today. She was very new and had only been told that she had been hand selected by Anne because she showed great promise. She smiled thinking of that to herself. It made her proud to know that someone such as Anne had selected her to be a part of this? She would say meeting.
Hands reached now into her bag and she drew from it a bottle of water. Alana never left home with out something to drink and at this current place and time she didn?t feel it would be appropriate to drink anything else. She just watched Anne who now sat silent.

Anne looked briefly over at the new entrant. "Ah, Alana. You made it here after all." To the others, she said, "This is Alana. We have recently made her a bodyguard, and a messenger for our most important communications. I am sure she will be a good and loyal employee."

To Alana, she said only, "Your only task here is to listen, dear. It's best that you keep up with what the Corporation is doing."

She knew that this was the first Alana had heard of her job and its responsibilities. She had intentionally neglected to introduce the others. Anne also suspected that this was Alana's first board meeting, and that even with an agenda the girl would be completely lost. Anne liked that. If she kept the girl disoriented, it would be easier to help her transition from her former aimless life into her new identity as a Corporation associate.

The important lesson here was that sometimes Alana's employers would not have time to stop and explain themselves. In fact, it was for the best if they did not explain themselves. The less Alana knew, the less she would worry about. It would be cruel, thought Anne, to let the poor girl know the truth all at once. The shock would kill her. No, they had upset her quite enough by inviting her here at all. Most new hires went years before meeting anyone of importance. Alas, on Rhy'din their skeleton staff was unable to handle things with such delicacy.

"So," she said, turning back to her finest minds. "You know our four objectives. Start with whichever you have ideas about." And she folded her fingers again, opening the floor back up to them. In her habitual way she did two things at once: listening for comments, but also picking into Alana's mind. She was after secrets, not because she actually wanted them, but because she wanted to verify how well Alana's head was guarded. About Alana's character, as with Brandon, Anne had no serious doubts.

CalicoBonny

Date: 2007-05-18 19:35 EST
Calico had not been invited to the board meeting. That's why she decided to show up. She normally avoided her "blood" mother but she couldn't resist such a perfect opportunity. Her mother's friends would SEE - how evil she was! How she had denied her daughter everything, and used her, and was now marrying Mary. That was the worst crime, forcing her to accept her disowned mother as her own wicked stepmother!

Cally didn't waste time finding her way to the meeting, but simply appeared beside Mary. Their bond was so close that they could move to each other without waiting to be summoned - something that Mary probably hadn't figured out. Most people were a step behind Cally.

Everyone was indeed shocked when she materialized in the little room, which she recognized as being on Mary's ship. She followed the shocked eyes downwards, and discovered that she was not dressed for the meeting. Literally. As sometimes happened, she had forgotten to manifest clothing.

Without missing a beat, Cally said, "Mother, I am here to demand what I am owed." She pointed an accusing finger at Anne Bonny, making it clear which of the two "mothers" she was speaking to. "You have used me long enough for your profit. I won't be a weapon! I won't be a puppet, mother!"

Anne gave her long-suffering sigh, the one that meant she was trying to make her daughter seem silly and ridiculous. Cally hated her! Anne wanted her dead, she was sure, if only Mary hadn't made them promise not to kill each other. OR disappear each other, or cause to stop existing... Mary knew her too well.

In the brief silence Cally took her chance. She walked over to the man she didn't know. Unlike "Nicholai", Cally thought he was a real person (Nicholai was an amusing phantasm she had imagined.) To this real person, she said, "Around your neck, you are wearing a piece of my soul." She pointed to the moon-shaped pendant unerringly. "That was torn from me, to be made real. And she didn't even ask me. She never asks, she just makes me do things."

She looked into the man's eyes, trying to make him understand the she too was real. "My name is Calico Bonny the Second," she said rapidly, "I was Empress of Cuba, but no more. I am, and am not, the daughter of the creature Anne. I am crazy but I am not lying."

She looked fiercely at her ex-mother, her step-mother-to-be. "If you're going to make me do your bidding, have the decency to pay me!" Anne opened her mouth but Cally cut her off: "Yes, I'm here asking you for money. And you owe it to me!"

Alana nodded her head. She was not surprised. The young elf had learned that in Rhydin. It is better to never show surprise. There was a question. It formed gently in her mind and as lips opened to speak the words, she looked up to Calico. She was stormy. A hellfire? And yes, she seemed mildly insane. She had seen that same passion elsewhere and without even knowing the back-story, she looked from Calico to Mary, and then back again. She nodded her head to Anne again now. Saying she accepted the job offer. Although Alana was not daft. She also knew she had not much of a choice. She was either with them or against them. Moreover, there was no way she would be against them.

Those eyes shifted now down at her hands. A messenger eh? She could barely even read. Then, all at once it hit her. She thought to herself. If I had a message I did not want anyone to see I would hand it over to the most proud person I know. They would not allow it to be snatched away because they would NOT allow themselves to fail. Now if this person also could not decipher the words. It would make it even better; my letter would stay between me and whomever it was being delivered. She smiled looking back up now at Anne and held back the soft laugh that was urging to escape. Anne was smart, it was not the first time Alana had realized that. But really her cunning was interesting to the young elf. Slowly folding her hand in front of her she looked now only to Calico. Her intrusion was interesting and not at all something Alana had expected and by the looks on the faces of all others present she wasn?t alone.

She sat there and looked about. She had expected a much different type of meeting. She had assumed everyone would be in power suits. Taking notes and looking very important. She waited for a cell phone to go off and to listen as someone was fired without question. When that did not happen, she was confused. She had not expected it to be like this.

Alana smiled now to herself. She had almost hired a scribe for herself today but in a rush to get ready had not even stopped to figure out how one would go about doing such a thing. She was happy now that she had not because the way this was going she did not think people would like her to have a hard copy of the events that were taking place. Those hands did not fidget instead she became very still as she felt Anne?s presence in her mind and she smiled again to herself. She thought for moments in clear mind speak.

~Can I help you find anything love or would you prefer to keep looking around on your own?~
There was a pause as she let Anne go looking for her deepest of secrets. Alana kept them hidden away and as Anne did not respond right away, she just let her be. Good luck to her on finding anything of importance. Alana knew well enough to forget certain things. This meeting would be one of those forgotten happenings. She mentally noted that she would keep a very serious stand on this whole situation. She did not want mess anything up. She was a rash woman and everyone knew that. Once the eftress had set her mind on something, she achieved it with an avid passion. Maybe that is why she was chosen. However, she was not positive; she was certainly not Anne Bonny and did not pretend to KNOW what she thought. Alana just thought she might have a decent idea.

As for the meeting, Alana called over a servant and asked for a brief description of what had been said thus far and as he told her she listened intently and looked up only every so often to check on everyone else. When he was through she nodded to him and smiled. She looked up now at Anne and spoke very clearly. She was not well read or learned but she knew a few things about the word around her. Sex sold and she knew it. Alana herself had considered opening a bar staffed by woman only. Performed in by woman only; yes it was sexist but a place like that would bring people in.

?Why not a new type of gentleman?s club. Rhydin certainly has enough men willing to drop their money in an establishment. I mean confidentiality being the key to keeping it a float. Married Betrothed or single, does not matter you know. What happens there stays there. Period. Draft up some confidentiality thing.?
And as Alana spoke she decided that what she was saying didn?t sound very good out loud. So she cut herself and shut up nodding an apology to Anne. She decided that this was her chance to be a silent beauty and she let that little innocent smile befall her lips again.

Looking around, a bemused look on his face, he patiently waited for what would be considered his turn to talk. He rather enjoyed the idea of a Gentlemans Club, the women.... ah yes, back to the meeting. He looked at Anne who seemed to be staring at him quite expectantly. He smiled at her, and decided it was his time.

"You wish to have a new religious movement in Rhy'Din? You do realize that such an endeavor would be incredibly difficult. Though I represent the Catholic religion back on Earth, that religion does not exist on Rhy'Din, and it is rather hard to convert followers into a new religion. However, with the recent destruction and death by peoples unknown." He had to stop a let out a little laugh.

Clearing his throat from a likely non existant blockage, he continued. "As I was saying, with those issues, some may be looking to find a new source of solice and guidance, and I can certainly be there to offer the comfort that they need. I have never attempted to start, much less operate, a religious movement before. I would of course leave that up to you lovely ladies, pulling the strings from the background."

"Also, as for saving your souls, that in itself is a lifelong job. The things you 2 do or, in most cases, plan... even gives me nightmares sometimes. But thats alright, because on those cold lonely nights you always..." He looks around suddenly, realizing that he was headed into territory that should not be discussed in current company. "Give me alot of blankets and teddy bears." He finished with a grin.

Looking over at Ariana, he gave a nod, indicating his approval in her presence. She was coming along quite nicely, now he just had to make sure that Mary, and the mother daughter combo over there, kept their hands off his prize. Anne always did appreciate beings of great beauty.

:: He blinks a bit looking to Calico...his head tilting only because she was new to him and he currently stayed silent for a time to find out what she wanted...while listening to Calico however he passed on his folder over to Anne for her to look over later his lips smiling some to one of the serving girls in thanks for the drink..and the other as he took up a small bite to eat..nothing major but the Thin Man did have an appitite after all::

::Shifting his eyes he took in each person slowly his mind just slightly raising its barriers only in caution since even though he was truthful and kind many times others have tried to take advantage...he ponders a bit though in thought to her Anne's words before smiling some as Ideas ran through his mind and softly he spoke:: A theme park....its something everyone can enjoy..and lately from what I have seen..well families have been increasing at a rapid rate. Allso if it were me I would want something to take my mind of the troubles here wouldn't you?:: He smiles and tilts his head to them..an innocent idea..and a simple one with many benefits...though he remained silent looking back to Calico once more a bit worried that things might become out of hand::

She squirmed in her seat now and and smiled. She couldnt help but think of a theme park. She thought to herself, family fun of course in the main park. And fun for him in another, Fun for her in another. She smiled brightly to the idea but it was something she would discuss when she had figured it out better in her own head so as not to sound daft again. Then all at once she smiled brighter than anyone could have imagined from the young woman. She lifted her gaze to Anne now and she smiled perhaps they could kill two birds with one stone.

"If you make this theme park one of this Earth than perhaps you can move those wares that your storing."

It was just an idea. She figured if they could be more efficiant than they should do so. The birds sounded like they would amuse the children and of course the opium could be distributed at the ADULTS ONLY sites. Perhaps even a couples resort would be nice. Rhydin hosted an endless fonts of weddings and was lacking in places to Honeymoon

Also a spa perhaps on this resort because Alana also noted that Rhydin was also a endless font of Divorces and at a time like that sometimes people just wanted to get away.

Anne would still be in Alanas mind and so Alana wouldnt hide these thoughts. She would allow them to reach Anne and felt more comfortable knowing that only Anne would scold her if the idea were total shite. She looked to Anne now with a smile. Her brain still whirlling with those ideas for the theme park.

Anne looked around the room, and decided that the first priority was her disowned daughter. If left alone, Cally would continue causing chaos until she was noticed... causing chaos was practically the only thing that Crazy Cally could be counted on to reliably do.

Hence Anne's "shortcuts" into Cally's mind, the hypnotic trapdoors she'd installed in the girl's youth which let her instantly access and control her. She had originally given herself a key to Calico's mind after the girl's unexpected Embrace. In one stroke, Cally had become overwhelmingly powerful and pathetically insane. Anne had needed it then to make sure her daughter had not destroyed worlds or herself in her twisted ignorance.

Now, she didn't really care what holes her ex-daughter dug herself into. She used her shortcut when she really needed Cally's help. She couldn't talk Calico into anything, even something to save herself - only Mary could reach her these days. So sometimes Anne slipped into Calico, made the adjustments to reality that had to be made, and retreated. It didn't hurt the girl, and in some way made up for the problems she constantly caused.

But maybe she did deserve paying. Anne looked her biological daughter in the eye, and spoke quietly but firmly: "Calico, you do deserve payment for your help. If you leave now, Mary will have a generous pile of gold for you the next time she sees you. Don't make me force you to leave."

Calico snarled at her birth-mother like a wild tiger, her pretty face (so like Anne's!) twisted with hate. She began to stalk out as if satisfied. At the door she whirled back, having changed her mind about being angry.

"Gold is not enough," Calico hissed, in a cold and angry voice. Anne wished she could counsel her offspring, at least in public comportment - Cally always seemed like she was over-acting in a badly-written movie.

"Calico." Anne was still quiet, only loud enough to hear. "Go away, and speak no more of debts, and I will give you a wish. One wish."

Cally looked at her, her face warring between spite and paranoia and eagerness. She looked around at the others and said, "You heard her. She said it. I accept." And she walked out.

Anne smiled brightly, letting her very real relief fuel her habitual expression. "So! That's settled. I apologize that you had to see that... she's always asking for money one way or another. It's usually easier just to give it to her."

She flicked at her leather-bound notebook, re-finding her place in the big picture. "About this carnival of ours...."

"I really like the idea of a fun-fair. Family entertainment is definitely the way to go." Anne smiled at Alana and Brandon, who had mostly worked this out already.

"I think we should separate the wholesome from the decadent, to help with public relations. If it works, we can contrast the two - Heaven and Hell, whatnot." She noted down a few things. "The family fair should have an adult area, but keep it all romantic, nice. A scenic overlook. Sidewalk cafes, portrait painters. Baby-sitters!" She thought a second. "We can put the spa there too. Spas are clean, wholesome, refreshing."

"Alana, I would like you to think about more specific attractions. I haven't any idea how to entertain children. Maybe we could import some ponies or something? I have a guy who deals in unicorns at a reasonable rate, but they can get violent if approached by non-virgins.... Anyway, Family Fun-Fair (Codename Heaven) is definitely a go."

She leaned forward conspiratorially, drawing them in for the fun bit. "Our 'Hell' park will be close, but completely different. Leave the kids home. We'll have couples retreats in suitable themes, maybe one fantasy per cottage? A bar and danceclub with maybe some entertainers, of both genders, and plenty of nooks to get cuddly.... A separate gentleman's-only club, and a ladies' club (staffed by the opposite sex.) I know what boys like, but we'll have to research what it is that Rhy'din women want when they're letting loose. Who is Rhy'din's most eligible bachelor?"

She chewed her lip, thinking this out more. "We need a place for homosexuals and fetishists, they like to party too. A lounge for drug use, all sedatives or pleasure enhancers - opium, soma, Ecstasy - we don't want freak-outs on our watch. A dungeon for the BDSM folks, I've seen plenty of them. We'll need security, plain-clothes so they don't ruin the mood. Integrated into the party."

She smiled happily at her people. "This is big. We are still open to backing other businesses, but this is something that we can do ourselves. We have people, we have luxury goods, we can get builders. Where are we getting the land from...?" Anne waved that off as unimportant. "Those gorgeous Chinese silks will look beautiful in our luxury couples' suites. Do you think we can get beach-front property?" She was very excited at the prospect of creating Rhy'din's premiere entertainment facility.

Anne laughed at her own excited babbling, and focused herself again on the necessary objectives. "Okay. Nicholai, you're responsible for thinking out the Hell half. Feel free to hire on a decorator if you need advice with that. I'll organize the Friends of Rhy'din relief fund, and the spiritual movement - you can lend wisdom to my plans, and I'll find someone else to lead the new church. Someone less intimidating."

"Technology, Brandon is our man. I'll be working with him to plan construction of the necessary devices." She smiled at him, very pleased by the thorough contents of the folder he had passed her. "Brandon, tomorrow Mary and I are leaving for a brief trip to Earth. We need to do a few things for the wedding, and are spending a few extra days touring the Caribbean for pleasure. Could you come with us? I'm sure that between rum, beaches, and coordinating with tech-manufacturers, you'll be pleasantly amused."

She looked over at Alana. "Mary has already asked if you will join us, dear. Perhaps you will help keep Brandon company while we are making boring wedding plans." Last she had checked, the two mortals were both single, and they were nice enough people... perhaps they would click.

She snapped her fingers. "Oh, and there's also the question of distribution. If we can get our goods in stores as well as enriching our entertainment investments, that's ideal. We're already spreading word of the Corporation by including our logo on the uniforms of the medics - we brought over two hundred medical personnel and quite a few supplies to help the casualties of the explosions. These tragedies are unfortunate, but let's make the best of them."

She beamed at everyone. They would soon be on Earth, and if she got her way, all of these fine people would join them in a much-needed vacation. It was time to get out of town a few days, relax, lay low and have fun. "Meeting dismissed, unless anyone has another brilliant idea. Tananda, Zia, drinks all around." Zia, the tall black woman whose trays held glasses of champagne, wine, and water, made the rounds to offer each their choice. As she bowed her neck to them, the careful vanity of her intricately braided hair was highlighted.

Tananda, a sultry black-haired gypsy of a girl, smilingly set down her tray of snacks. She bound her black hair up with a red cord, and offered her neck first to Anne, as the most senior at the meeting. Anne sank her fangs into the girl for a small drink. She was gentle enough that not even a drop spilled, and Tananda smiled to her as she bowed and moved on to the other vampires present. Anne prided herself on her hospitality, but it helped to have good servants.

Alana nodded to Anne now and she smiled. Why was Alana in charge of keeping the kiddies occupied at the theme park. Alana knew little of children. But she liked them. She tilted her head to one side and thought. She shook her head to the importing of unicorns. They had a tendency of dying in transit and more would drop before they arrived than they would actually be able to showcase. And of course they cost a fortune to feed and take care of. Think of how many gallons of detergent and bleaches would be needed to keep them white. And that rose another problem people have this thing about their rights as creatures and she DIDN?T want to step over that line. The wildlife would have to be looked over on Earth. There had to be a dozen and a half things she could think of off the top of her head. She would have to look into sitters. And she would have to work on writing or Hiring a scribe. To take down her ideas so they didn?t escape from her. She had the problem sometimes. The ideas came and went without so much as her being able to reach out and touch them.

Alana nodded again as Anne spoke of Mary and her cheeks flushed a bit with excitement as she thought of making her trip to earth. She had already gone over what she was going to bring. Those bags were packed and sitting by the Caverns exit and those ears perked and the comment about Brandon and she offered him a bright smile. She was Na?ve and she was always interested in making new friends. Of course she would keep him company while they planned. She wanted to see the great forests and she had hoped for a companion and she smiled thinking that he may be the one to accompany her. She offered him a hand seeing as they had not met and as he took a hold of her hand she introduced herself

?Alana Daven. It is a pleasure Brandon.?

Now she looked back to Anne and she unfolded her hands and looked to her that voice soft as always. She was in a good mood and only thing right now that pressed on her was what her duty was.

?I know I am to be a bodyguard Milady but you haven?t told me to whom. Would it be too forward to ask who it is I am to be guarding.?

Alana had her very best business voice on and she was trying to prove that she was just as learned as everyone else present even if that wasn?t the case. She was still trying very hard and didn?t want to appear rude to anyone so she was being very polite today.

Anne smiled at Alana. "I did forget that detail, didn't I? You are to guard Mary. As they say in Chinese, you are responsible for her body." She looked serious a moment. "Mary is an excellent fighter. But anyone may be surprised, or overwhelmed. I can't bear to think of anything happening to her. You are not the only one protecting her from danger - but the more eyes, the better."

She shared a glance with Nicholai. "Father Nicholai and I have our own protections and bodyguards. The rest of you - I believe - are not high-profile enough to be targets yet." She looked fiercely at her people, including all in the next sentence. "If I am wrong... If you do not feel safe, if you are threatened in pursuit of your daily business... let me know, and I will increase your protection. None of my people will be harmed, even if it takes another bodyguard to guard the guards."

She clapped her hands merrily. "Vacation! Everyone is familiar with the portal by now, no? Brandon, show Alana on the way out if she doesn't know. Everyone who's coming, have your things packed and be back on board within the day. We leave at sundown for Mother Earth, the gorgeous Caribbean." She grinned. "If any of you are staying behind, let me know so I can give you duties in our absence. But why wouldn't you want to come? This is as good as it gets." She put an arm around Mary and started waxing lyrical about beaches, forests, fine restaurants, wine at sunset, friendly natives.

She wanted them along for this vacation. It would be both a working vacation and a chance for her people to bond. And there were... other reasons to get out of town for a bit. This thing with the Friends of the Abyss was getting heavy. Better to send Brian Ravenlock a list of the Corporation's enemies, and lay low until it all blew over.

A cocktail napkin was pulled closer to herself. That bottle of water pressed to her lips as she grabbed a pen from the person sitting beside her. She unfolded the cocktail napkin and began a sketch of the resort. Suddenly she got up and walked over to Brandon. She sat there beside him and pointed something out. Then before he even had a chance to say a word she crumpled it up and grabbed another napkin. This one was also unfolded and she spread it out. The resort could not be square! That would be total foolishness and so she went about folding the napkin this way and then that way holding it up she raised a brow at the paper hat that she had inadvertently created. She giggled a bit to herself and unfolded it once more. However, the boat had given her an idea. Moreover, without thinking she blurted it out.

?A string of Islands.?

Connected by ferries or something of the like. Maybe some high-tech transit. Alana was smiling a little bit and she crumpled up the cocktail napkin and looked around with a bright smile. She had packed all right. She had been packing for days now. She had bought some very interesting swimsuits. Alana OBVIOUSLY did not know that no one wears clothing in the water in the Caribbean. Therefore, she had spent a pretty penny on swimwear over the last week. She did not know how to get to the Portal and those eyes rolled over Brandon once more. Pleading that he help her find it.

On the subject of who she would be guarding Alana nodded. She would be more than pleased to spend more time with Mary. Alana had grown very fond of her employer and her Fianc?. She felt as if she could be completely herself around them and they would not look down at her for it. She thought a nice feeling overall.

Alana stood now from the board table now and with a rustling of that peasent skirt she smiled and made her way out of the board room and waited for Brandon to leave as well. As he did she sort of rushed to keep up with him and offered him a ginger smile. She spoke to him softly as if she didn?t want to be heard sounding silly.

?Would you be able to show me the way??

Her role here had not really been established so she observed throughout the meeting without a word or reaction. Early on though she heard something that caught her attention, but the meeting took a lot of fast twists and turns so she merely listened attentively as it all unfolded. Watching the developments, amazed at how much came out of it, but her focus never entirely left her original thought. After watching Alana leave she figured it was time. After catching Anne?s eye and receiving what seems to be an approving look she finally speaks up:

?I definitely think you have something big that needs to be worked on straight away with this religious movement, Lady Anne if I may?? Looking to Anne with a respectful bow of her head to be sure it is alright to continue she goes on. ?I have been thinking for some time on the need for the Rhydin people to have goals to work for to improve things. After all, people with such unstable lives are worried about what is going to happen next. These people have little right now, no real common culture, no one to truly lead them, no laws to dictate what is okay or not. They need people to protect them or anyone can to whatever they want to them. They need guidance from somewhere and they need to be given direction.? Finally done with what she hadn?t meant to take so long to say she blushes the lightest color of pink but continues to look at Anne.

?At any rate I would love to be of help with this?? She looks back to Nicholai at this point unsure if she should have said anything without speaking to him first.

He was still leaning back in his chair, quietly watching the proceedings, when Ariana spoke. It came as quite the surprise, as she was normally quite shy in new surroundings. Perhaps those bits of training in confidence were beginning to pay off after all. Finding himself excited, he cocked his head slightly, listening to what the woman had to say. After listening to the entire thing, he had to admit he was impressed. He caught her eye, gave her a small, encouraging smile, and a little nod, before looking to Anne for her reaction to the girls insertion of thought.

While waiting to see what Anne would say to this newcomer, his mind wandered in that instant of time as a mind will do. He couldnt help but to have a grin come to his face as he thought of all these beautiful women on the coming time away, all nude, and all around him. He'd seen most of them of course in all their natural beauty, but never all of them, especially never all together. A somewhat evil thought began to surface in his mind. Perhaps these ladies could be persuaded to take a turn or two on the stage at the new adult club they had discussed. Ariana, he knew, would probably be the hardest one to persuade, but it could be done.

He heard Anne beginning to speak and his mind came back into focus, but he just could not wipe that grin off his face. The old saying was to picture your audience naked to get through a presentation, but he was having a good time picturing the presenter as such, and it wasn't an image that he was going to allow to go away any time soon. He again turned his full attention to Anne, listening to her words.

Anne nodded to Ariana. It had been a long meeting and she was tired, but she kept her face politely encouraging. Just because it was the end of their planning session didn't mean that this idea was any less important.

"Ariana, I would be pleased if you would help me with this," she said, when she realized her input was wanted. "I can come up with slogans and assemble manpower, but I think you would be the perfect leader for the new organization. You are a lot like Mary - earnest, gentle, motivated. I can see that bringing aid and comfort to people is as much second nature for you as -" She was going to say, "as debauchery is for Nicholai", but thought it inappropriate, and finished, "...as drinking blood is for vampires."

Remembering then that she was surrounded by vampires, Anne motioned for Tananda and Zia to assume their positions. Tananda knelt in front of Mary to offer her neck, and Zia knelt in front of Nicholai and Ariana. Anne watched closely to see how well Ariana fed. Uncertainty in drinking blood often betrayed deeper problems with adjusting to vampric life.

Anne concluded, "We'll have plenty of time to talk about this over our vacation. Nicholai did tell you that you two are coming, didn't he...? I'm going to need his help coordinating our affairs Earth-side, and you should not be separated from him in this - formative time." Being newly Embraced was like being a child again; Ariana needed guidance and supervision until she was used to her new state of existence.

She smiled encouragingly to Ariana. "And now you have a job title, if anyone asks. You are our Vice President in charge of Ministry and Spiritual Aid. By the time we return to Rhy'din, you should have a plan to turn our two-hundred medics into a full-fledged relief organization. We'll have to talk about a belief system that is sufficiently comforting without being too religious."

She clapped her hands, symbolically closing the floor. "All right, people. The 'Bonny Anne' is sailing sundown for the beautiful Caribbean. Make whatever preparations you need to. I need my beauty sleep." She stood, yawning, and gathered her effects. Leather notebook, beaded purse, tobacco pouch, nib pen full of violet ink. She looked languidly at Mary, giving her the close-lashed look that she knew weakened the other woman's knees. "When you've shown everyone out, dear-heart, I'll be waiting for you in bed."

Anne never actually slept, unless she was granting herself the rare luxury of time to dream. Her habit was to rest twenty minutes, sitting, before transitioning from her nocturnal vampiric body to a human host-body that could tolerate the sun. (She kept several spare bodies around, most of them fulfilling useful household duties between possessions.)

Though she did not rest, Anne loved bedtime. It was her time to bond with Mary, between the sheets of the canopied four-poster bed that they shared in all ways. It was never restful, but it made for a very satisfying end to a long day.
