The night had started and went like any other. Good hunting, lazy, but certainly attentive, patrol of Ox's facility, some laying about with Laina and Melody in the forest, intoxicated in their infectious happiness. But as all roads lead to Rhy'din, all souls find their way to the Red Dragon at some point. And Ripper, since his first day off the Nexus, had frequented this rustic place where he felt perpetually safe and encountered the most exotic of beings.
One could easily say he was a social alien, especially given his nature of being a ruthless assassin who was not capable of discriminating his target from those who got in his way. But any of the good people of the Red Dragon could tell you that he was no ordinary xenomorph. Oh, he might have started off like that, but let us say that his time in Rhy'Din, along with more selfish reasons of self-preservation by mixing with the locales rather than always running from beings more powerful than him, has changed for the infinitely better.
Needless to say, the last thing he imagined meeting in this place was a vampire. Given the frequency of their appearance since his arrival here, Ripper thought that they were one of the few creatures to not exist in Rhy'din. And yet, lo and behold, as he was curled on the ground beside his good friend Seth, enjoying lovely spinal scritches--those are his favorite!--one came. The first thing that Ripper noticed was just how tall he was. And boy, was that pale human tall!
And then came Mei. Ripper had only met her twice before, but each time it was with civility and some good ole talk that had allowed the xenomorph to worm his way into her confidence, a confidence that he would never betray by this point. She was a good friend, and just imagine his surprise when the former slave sat down at the same table as the tall man. By the time Seth was left, Ripper had joined the two.
It was with typical civility and the hospitality of Mei Mei that Ripper had discovered that the human's name was Eric Northman, and that he was the new head of security of the Bonny Corporation. It was through civility that he found out Eric was, in fact, a vampire. And it was through further conversation, and of course nice pettings on his part, that allowed Ripper to fall fully into his trust.
A trust that was almost betrayed by a single word.
Pet.
The alien was no pet, and he made his distaste of the word singularly known to his company in an Inn that was now empty except for the three of them. But a quick explanation by Eric, substantiated by Mei, allowed Ripper to trust him again. For you see, Eric was looking for a pet, yes. But a pet, to vampires, is simply one they adore, take care of, and take in as their own.
It had become clear what Eric was proposing at that time. He wanted Ripper to join the Bonny Corporation, and had extended a hand of friendship.
So, that hand was accepted. Ripper was confident in his ability to manage his time between his new caretaker, his female prospect, and, of course, his standing guard job at Ox's facility.
Ripper left the Red Dragon that night informally accepted into the embrace of the charitable Bonny Corporation. But he knew that whatever may come of this, he had found a new friend.
A friend he would gladly kill for.
