Sohail Khan

It had been weeks since Sohail had been in RhyDin city, months since she had stayed in the city for more then a few days at a time. She needed a rest, avoiding authorities to bring all that contraband down to the southern lands had taken a lot out of her. Not to mention the little mission she had taken care of while down there. That had been a short sweet little deal, just taking care of someone. She wasn?t one to collect tokens from her victims, like a lock of hair, but their faces were forever imprinted into her mind. She took the time going through the collection sometimes, remembering how cleanly she had killed such and such, or how this one had given her such a great chase. She loved the chase.

Tugging her denim jacket tighter about her, she ran the last few steps to the door of one of the many run-down warehouses near the docks and spaceport. No keys were needed, she just gave the knob a turn and a jiggle-without the jiggle it wouldn?t open right in the cold- and stepped inside the quiet warehouse. She gave the teenager male standing next to the door a nod in greeting, silently pleased that he was keeping such diligent watch over the door even when she wasn?t constantly around. She climbed the stairs immediately to her left, sparing a glance to see what order the warehouse was in. Fairly empty, not surprising since business wouldn?t pick up until spring. There were some men moving boxes to and fro, preparing for some type of shipment.

Ascending the catwalk, she moved passed several doors until she reached her own apartment. Some had tried to tell her that it wasn?t wise to live in the same place she worked out of- too easy to catch her. She had just shrugged and had expanded the upstairs offices anyways. They maintained that warehouse office look- cold steel doors and dirty plaster walls. Keying open her door she stepped inside to her office, closing the door behind her. A flick of a switch turned the lights on. Electricity was one of the other reasons she refused to live elsewhere, this near to the spaceport it was more common then deeper into the city.

She dropped her canvas bag onto her cluttered desk before moving deeper into the apartment. Ignoring the door for her bedroom, she moved right to the bathroom. Running water was another convenience she refused to live without, after spending years without it and many other things in the orphanage. She turned the hot water on to fill the deep tub up, shedding her clothing after she poured something from a bottle into the water as well. A newly acquired cut on her arm was examined while she waited for the water to fill up- it was a soft pink against her mocha-colored skin. She poked at it, not even flinching at the pain caused by such a probe. Tub filled, she turned off the water and sunk in. Yes, the water was scalding. She had long ago trained herself not to notice or care. It was all part of some masochistic type of training she put herself through, the bubbles were just an added bonus.

Sohail Khan

She lingered in her bath for longer then she should have. So much to do and so little time. She had to make sure her multiple business ventures were in order- recruit some new members to her little gang. It was a mistake to be gone from the city for so long. She should have stuck around after Jinny had died- built up her own name in place of the one Jinny-blue had made for herself since she had returned from Earth. It hadn?t been much, but it was more then Sohail had at the moment.

She wanted Sohail Khan to be a name that the people on the streets knew, ?No- don?t touch that girl. That?s on of Khan?s girls.? Her bubble bath dreams made her smile. No more slinking in the shadows and merely dabbling in the different trades- black market, prostitution, plain old pick pocketing. She had learned a few things on Earth that may come in handy- but the magic present in RhyDin could make things tricky.

She dunked her head under one more time before emerging. She made up a mental checklist of things to do as she went through the process of drying off and getting dressed. One, stop by the orphanage, see if Madame Gibs had any new, spirited orphans for her. She needed to train up a new street team. Two, see what type of business her people had been doing while she was gone. Three, prowl the streets checking out the latest fads. Four, make some new connections.

That last one was going to be the hardest, she admitted to herself. Sohail was never what anyone considered to be a people person.

She checked herself out in the mirror before leaving. Scarred fingers came up and touched her signature scar with a wry smile, ?Jinny.? Oh well- life went on and people didn?t stay with you for too long, no use getting all sentimental over it. She grabbed up her denim jacket and made her way out to the streets of the city.
