Topic: Signing up for the Watch

Ja'spar

The Khajiit walks into the watch building. He was clad in his armor and armed with his great sword(he rarely goes anywhere without them). Ja'spar approached the desk and looked for someone to talk to. He decided to announce his presence.

"Is the one named Ravenlock here?"

Well, that was a sight indeed. An armored and quite armed Khajiit walking into the lobby looking all business, Not the standard fair when it comes to the lobby of the 27th, but hey?it was hump day, the day before ?throat punch Thursday?. So that meant anything at all was possible!

And this here Khajiit? Yeah, he fit that bill to the nines.

Enough so, that the lobby came to a rather obvious pause. Kinda like those old ?Western? movies when the bad guy in black would walk into the saloon, and everything came to a sudden halt. Only difference is this Khajiit wasn?t clad in black, and no one knew if he as a bad guy or not. Regardless of those minor variations, all eyes were on the stranger as he approached the main desk of the 27th.

Even a pair of emerald eyes that were not so seen, heh.

Back to the lobby however?

The young desk officer just watched the armored / armed stranger approach, and just took it all in as best as he could. After all this was the 27th, and strange things happened on a weekly basis when it came to this unit, or at least that?s what the talk is around the Watch. Unless you?re in any unit that Vice Admiral Jesse is a part of--- and if that?s case, then you know that?s where the really bat-crap strange shiznit goes down.

Then the Khajiit spoke.

The most distinctive accent took the young desk officer by surprise indeed, and was a very sharp contrast to the stranger?s appearance. It took a few moments to register, and then the young man finally replied. ?Ravenlock??

The desk officer looked rather confused there behind the desk, which of course caused one self-proclaimed Queen of Mithra Mayhem to facepalm, as she walked on over to the desk.

?Yer killin? me smalls! Why don?cha go and take a break. Momma here will take care o? this, kay??

Oh the relief that came across the desk officer?s face indeed as Kerri approached! ?Captain!?

Those feline ears of hers, pricked a bit as she caught the tone in the young man?s voice. A fangy grin followed, as a gloved hand lifted to pat the head of the desk officer, while he lifted from his chair. ?You kids are so cute when you get like this, kinda makes me wanna round you all up and make you paint my house or somethin?.?

The young man took his leave, as Kerri then gave a quick glance around the lobby. Those emerald orbs of hers narrowing as she did so, and instantly the message was received 5X5 as everyone went back to whatever the hell they were doin? and left the Captain to deal with the stranger.

Righting herself more so, Kerri eyed the Khajiit carefully and just got the heart of the matter.

?Whatcha want with, Ravenlock??

Ja'spar

Date: 2014-05-21 17:31 EST
He watched the commotion behind the desk with a wry grin. Which was transformed into a smile as he saw the woman with feline features take charge. Ja'spar met her gaze with friendly eyes and got as close as a Khajiit can to smiling without baring teeth.

"Ja'spar was told to come here and speak to Ravenlock about joining the watch."

Kerri Al Tuatha Ravenlock

*Kerblink!*

Eyeing the stranger rather carefully, Kerri nodded ever so slowly and just drank it all in. She knew he wasn?t any of her kind, cause let?s be frickin? blunt here. If there were 7ft tall ? hella jacked Mithra males back at home in Elshimo, then NO Mithra in her right mind would want to ever leave that place.

An, did he just speak in 3d person?

Those emerald orbs of hers blinked a few times more, as she just looked over the Khajiit yet again. ?You?re a big one, ain?cha??

Yup it was right there and then that Kerri had decided she had enough--- of looking up at the stranger. So a hand handed rather slowly, as gloved fingers snapped loudly!

?Officer Smalls, my standing box please!?

Instantly, as if he had always been there, the young desk officer that the Khajiit had first met, re-appeared next to Kerri and had a small wooden crate in hand. Engraved on the side of said crate were the words ?Official Standing Box Property of Kerri?. Said box was set down next to the Captain as she then stepped atop it, while waving the desk officer aside. ?Thank you, Smalls.?

Seeing that she was now eye to eye with the Khajiit, Kerri righted herself the more so, those gloved hands of hers smoothing out her uniform. A certified nod offered to the stranger, ?Alright, bigness--- now that we got this taken care of, let?s cut to the chase, yeah??

Clearing her throat, she continued. ?Ja?spar was told to come here and speak to Ravenlock about joining the Watch---- aaaaand I?m gonna guess that you my magnificent ?Tony the Tiger? are in fact, Ja?spar??

?Whelp my man, you lucked out, cause you found a Ravenlock and this happens to be the Watch to boot! So tell me, who directed you here??

Ja'spar

Date: 2014-05-22 15:55 EST
The Khajiit smiled at the rhetorical question. Seeing the standing box being brought in, his smile increased in size and became wry, the side of his mouth opened on the grinning side and revealed some fierce looking teeth. Though this was not for intimidation as one might gather from his smile and relaxed body language.

He nodded as she asked if he was Ja'spar, his wry grin opening a bit more as the word magnificent was tossed.

"Ja'spar was told by Andu to seek out the one named Brian Ravenlock to apply for the Watch's 27th Division."

?Oooooooooh! You mean T-Bone! Or was that Angus? Filet? Whopper? I can't remember all the names I gave him, but yeah-- the horney bull!?

Case in point, Kerri lifted her hands and gave herself horns to show the effect. She might have even 'moo'd' , but that little portion of this talk is a point that is sorely up for debate...

Righting herself, the Captain looked Ja'spar over again. Those emerald orbs of hers narrowing that much more, ?So he sentcha here to hook up with us by talking to Bri, yeah? Guess we can arrange that, if Bri were here that is. He's not due back for a few days. So ya gots me here, tall-striped-and furry! Not that I'm complainin'!?

Kerri then hopped off her box and moved around the desk with authoritah, as she began to take in the Khajiit at a much closer rate. Various 'Hmms' and 'Yes's' came from the Mithra as she nodded to herself.

?Alright, ladies and gents! I have made a decision! Smalls, my official drum roll please!?

And just like that, somehow-- someway-- Smalls did in fact produce a small pair of what looked to be bongo drums, as if out of thin air no less... Then he began to beat the drums, loudly.

?Smalls!?

The drums ceased. ?Ma'am...??

?I want the soft anticipating drum roll, nubcakes!?

?My bad, Ma'am!?

?Yes, it is- but momma loves you. So play on playa.?

And what do ya know? He did just that.

So the drums rolled softly, as Kerri paced in front of the Khajiit...

Ja'spar

Date: 2014-05-25 22:45 EST
Ja'spar raised an eyebrow at the horny bull comment, but decided it was for the best not to say anything that might further it. The eyebrow raised further as the horn effect was added.

He couldn't help grinning as he was being inspected, an eyebrow still raised, though, it was much more of a raised brow. The Khajiit rolled his shoulders and cracked his neck. It should be noted that big bones do tend to crack fiercely.

In his line of work determining if you got the job or not was a straightforward yes or no. Possibly a show of strength and skill here and there, but it was still fairly straightforward.

Ja'spar's raised brow fell, but he still watched the pacing woman in front of him with a wry grin.

How long had he been standing there? Apparently far too long. How long had he not been noticed? Quite a while, but he couldn?t blame anyone at all, especially with the spectacle that played before the lobby full of people. It nearly reminded him of walking in on one of Darcy?s antics in the Inn, and truth be told a good part of him wanted to turn around and walk right out.

However, this particular spectacle was more like a train wreck, and as much as that part of him wanted to leave, he just couldn?t bring himself to do it.

So he watched and waited like the rest of them--- all through the antics with the box, the drums and even the pacing. He had been there for a good deal of it all. And like any good hearted patron of the fine and not so fine arts, he chuckled and shook his face. He even facepalmed as well, despite the faint smile he wore.

It was then, that he caught a gasp from a nearby soul. He turned to the source and nodded, also giving ?shhh? gesture. The young officer nodded, and went back to his watching. Granted he did so a bit taller, and seemed a great deal more attentive. Soon others took notice as well, and began to do the same. All the while, Kerri had been doing her thing with this new arrival which abruptly came to an end, when some eager lad cried out rather loudly.

?Officer on the deck!?

Kerri didn?t seem to catch what the others had, as she was knee deep in her routine. ?Alright kids, this is what Momma decided on! My decision is---?

The drum roll ceased as Kerri cried out, ?Officer on the deck!?

The eyes of the mithra widened as she realized what she had said, ?Officer on the what-what!??

Then came the soft sigh from Brian, as he facepalmed somewhat more so.

?Captain Ravenlock, what the hell have I walked into??

?Wha? Wh?Bri?BRI!?

Oh the look of pure shock that was plastered on the face of Kerri, as she immediately righted up and offered a damned good salute!

Brian remained there a moment, and then salute right on back. ?Well Captain, I see your recruiting skills are as impressive as ever, and this here must be Ja?spar, correct??

Ja'spar

Ja'spar turned around hearing an officer yell, following the gazes of many others.

When he had done so he saw a man. Ja'spar had no idea who this man was, but he did seem to have an air of authority about him.

Ignorant of the situation, Ja'spar simply looks at the man, his ears twitching at the sound of his name.

Since Ja'spar wasn't sure if he should reply for the Mithra or not, he decided that it would be better to let the person who was directly addressed do the talking.

Brian Ravenlock

?Um? Bri??

Kerri?s hand lowered from the salute, yet the expression of surprise on that face of hers remained very much intact, ?What are ya doin? here? Yer not supposed to be back till the end of the week, yeah? An what happened to your face??

?I was?? Brian left his reply to hang a bit, as he glanced about the lobby one good time. His good eye narrowed somewhat, as his hand lifted to allow his finger to trace the black eye patch, that covered his right eye. The vertical scar line peeking from the top and bottom of the patch was quite evident, and bothered the returning Watch Captain like one?s business, but he wasn?t about to let that show--- not here, and not in front of the men and women, who served under him. He shrugged softly and answered Kerri?s question, ?Just a little disagreement, nothing to worry about.?

Kerri noddled slowly, just takin? it all in and then---- Lightbulb! ?Ack! Smalls get on the ball man, grab the Captain?s bag there and get it to his office! You two, get my spotlights back to storage and don?t forget my standing box too! An you! Yeah you, the little one?no that little one! Yeah, get the coffee machine on STAT and then---

?ALL HANDS STOP!?

And what d?yanna know--- they all stopped dead in their tracks, their eyes turning to Brian, as he delivered a steadied gaze about the room for a moment or two, and then in a calm-yet firm voice he addressed the gathered.

?I?ve been away a while and I apologize for that? I want to thank you all for taking care of things while I was gone, especially Kerr?Captain Ravenlock. I know I was expected later than today, but something has come up and we?re needed to look into some things around the city. Things that can?t wait. That being said, as the other Captain Ravenlock instructed?get this lobby back in order, and fire up those coffee machines. Someone get over to Yotsuba?s and that little Sub-Shop down the way, and order some lunch. Enough for the whole house here, we?re gonna be working through the afternoon straight.?

He nodded to Smalls, ?Thanks for taking care of Kerri, here. I can take my own bag, but you can do something else for us. Grab two others, and I need logistical reports for the last two months straight. All calls for service, sorted by date and time-- highlight burglaries and assaults specifically, and anonymous tips as well. I know it?s a lot, but we need it all.?

Then Brian looked around the room once more, ?Quarter-Masters, get your people and begin inventory checks in all divisions, start with munitions and armor, I want this done in the next two hours, call out anyone you need to?just get it done please. Everyone else, keep to your assigned duties and we?ll raise you when we?re ready for a briefing. That?s all folks, so let?s get to it.?

Kerri didn?t wait for Brian to say anything else, ?You heard him, cats n?kittens! Make it happen! Go go go! An hey, Kowalski!? Yeah you clich? name! Yer on grub detail with, Maddock an Towhee! Let?s go!?

Ever been in the center of a storm perchance? Maybe a hurricane?or a cyclone? How about one of those ?David?s Bridals? mad sales, that erupt in a crap ton of fights between brides-to- be and their wedding parties? Well if you have, then you have an idea of what it felt like to be in the center of that lobby when the eruption of activity commenced.

Right where Brian, Kerri and Ja?spar were.

Leaving everything to its own accord, Brian turned to Ja?spar once more and offered his hand to the Khajiit.

?Ja?spar, it?s good to meet you. I?m Brian Ravenlock, and I?m told Andu sent you to us. So--- if you?ve got the time, I?d like to talk to you some more in my office, if that?s alright.?

Now, Brian stood a decent 6?2? or so and was solid enough--- but he was damned impressed with the size of the Khajiit. Andu, wouldn?t have sent just anybody to the 27th, especially since Andu worked so well with the division and many of its members in and out of the Watch. So this was a pleasant arrival to walk in on?save Kerri?s ?showcase?.

Speaking of Kerri, she leaned to Brian and whispered rather loudly--- ?He?s a big ?un!?

Ja'spar

Date: 2014-06-01 14:18 EST
The khajiit's head swiveled around watching the mass of people swarm to different areas, but somehow through all the confusion Ja'spar heard Brian and turned to face him, his hand reaching out to meet the shake.

Ja'spar nodded "Very nice to meet you, Brian." his head turning to look around at his confusing surroundings.

The Khajiit took on a wry grin "Ja'spar thinks that would be for the best."

He had heard the remark about his size, but he was used to people commenting about it. He was an uncommon breed of Khajiit to be seen outside of the heart of Elsweyr jungles. Even more uncommon was his coloring, which appeared to be solid black. The Khajiit would just keep a wry smile, ready to follow Brian.

Brian Ravenlock

Date: 2014-06-04 11:53 EST
Giving a firm shake of hand, Brian also took a glance around with a chuckle. ?Let?s find that office, then.?

Kerri was content enough to point to the check point at the far end of the room and the hall way that lay behind said check point, ?In case ya forgot, Bri. Also I left it just like you did, kay? Thanxbai!?

Off the self proclaimed ?Queen of Mithra Mayhem? went, barking orders as she did so.

A quick nod to Ja?spar as Brian motioned towards the checkpoint and said hallway, ?Let?s see just how she left my office, yeah??

Taking his duffel bag in hand, Brian led the way. The checkpoint opened right up allowing the pair in, and then it was down a narrowed hallway, adorned with various framed portraits and commendations. A few news articles here and there, and some wanted posters for good measure. Then they hit the first door on the left, and Brian paused to open it--- slowly. A cautioned glance to the Khajiit, followed by a slow nod as the door opened more so, allowing Brian a quick peek inside.

?Forgive my approach here, Ja?spar--- when it comes to her?Kerri, there? You can never be too careful.?

Another glance inside the room, caused Brian to relax a bit more so as his hand swept the door frame in turn. ?Looks good, let?s head in.?

And in Brian went, bag in hand.

Motioning about the room, as he neared the large desk that lay to the rear/center, he then set his bag next to it and made his way around it, puling the chair out. ?Please make yourself comfortable, Ja?spar.?

The door to the office closed quietly, but if one were to look closely enough they would have seen a quick ?Hang Ten? hand sign, and maybe hear a snicker-snort or two. Yes, Kerri was very much near?

?She?s something else, always has been.?

A quick pan of the desk---?The hell? Rule to show cause? Rescinding restraining order for, Corlanthi?I?ll be damned she actually got them to do it? Wonder if they make a greeting card for that??

Snapping back to the matter at hand, Brian offered a smile to the Khajiit. ?So Ja?spar, tell me--- Andu sent you to us, but why??

Ja'spar

Date: 2014-06-04 18:34 EST
The Khajiit nodded as Brian mentioned finding a quiet office. Ja'spar would gladly follow the man anywhere he indicated.

He looked about the office with a grin as he was motioned in. Though he didn't quite understand what the man was talking about when he mentioned the Corlanthi he would at least pretend not to look curious.

As Brian asked of Andu's reason for sending him here. Oh now there was a question that gets straight to the business, the Khajiit thought. He gave a wry grin before he spoke.

"Ja'spar was asking Andu about jobs in the area and Ja'spar specifically inquired about those that could involve skull cracking. Andu then recommended the 27th division. Ja'spar's guess is that he looks the part and that he was a sellsword for a good while and is an experienced combatant."

Brian Ravenlock

Date: 2014-07-11 16:27 EST
A brow raised somewhat, as Brian took in Ja'spar's words...

?Skull cracking--- well, that's not exactly what we do here, Ja'spar. Granted, the occasional skull can get cracked during operations, that is not what we set out to do from the get go. That is not what this division here is about...?

Slowly, Brian stood. He reached over to a nearby file cabinet and opened one of the drawers. Fingers muddled through several folders, as he pulled some out and shut said drawer once more. That seat of his was taken once more, as he placed the folders in front of the Khajiit.

?These here, are some of the cases we have worked on, Ja'spar. Cases that other divisions are ill-equipped to handle, be it physically, mentally-- or what have you. Basically, we do what others won't do, or can't do. Be it here, or abroad. I'm not saying we're better than anyone else, what I'm saying is--- we handle things, others don't. That's why this division was created back when. As a strong counter-measure, for the rather--- out of the norm things that tend to go bump in the night.?

The case folders before Ja'spar were titled, 'Jacyn Ravenlock', 'Raven (2) / Mister R', 'Dockside Dragon Attack / Murder' , 'Blackstone', and 'Travanix'.

Brian allowed the Khajiit time to peruse the case files a moment, and then he continued.

?Jacyn Ravenlock... He was a terrorist of the worst order, honestly. He was also my older brother. His crimes were numerous-- Murder in the 1st Degree, Murder in the 2nd Degree, Manslaughter, Child Endangerment, Kidnapping, Attempted Murder, Arson, Threats against Public Officials, Child Abuse-Physical, and Psychological, and a great deal more.?

Brian looked to Ja'spar more so, as he continued.

?He began by taking out political enemies of the city, who assisted the subject in the case file there, titled 'Travanix'. After that, he began to attack various parties within the city, and even town hall itself. He went after the Governor, and kidnapped children in order to harness their soul to power his own forces, with an imbued armory. He also tried to kill my own wife, myself, and sacked an entire Abbey, killing it's Matron and dozens of others in the process. His forces were not quite of this world, and their attacks were very decisive. Emotionally, as well as physically it was a mess for a great many of us.?

?In the end, he was stopped. But it took several factions to work as one, on many different battle fronts. My wife's Coalition forces, which were four different factions united as one, The Avenger's Initiative, which was a privately organized group dedicated to the defense of the city, and its people. The Order of Scathach, as well as some groups who do not wish to have their involvement made public... This took two years, or so.?

Brian reached over and tapped another one, ?This is Raven... He was a terrorist with a rather romanticized agenda. Arson, Kidnapping, Attempted Murder, and some other issues. His attacks were very public, as was he. He made no idea, hiding who he was or what he had done. Like Jacyn, he was stopped by a collaborative effort. Like his efforts, ours was rather public as well. He now free-lances as a private detective, and I use his services from time to time.?

?The other one there, the 'Dragon'... That's what we can best call it, because we really don't know if it was in fact a dragon or not. What we do know, is that it attacked ships and fishermen on the docks, and sea. Originally it was our case, then handed to another division, and then handed back to us, when it was deemed 'extraordinary'. It's still an active case.?

?Blackstone-- an operative and friend. He had been taken from us, and kept prisoner in another realm. We decided to get him back. With some help from a local embassy, I lied my way into this realm, took him back by force and broke a few inter-dimensional laws in the process. I still can't show my face there, but that's alright. We got him back, and that's what mattered. Even if we had no jurisdiction there, it didn't matter-- so long as I came back with him.?

?Then we have Travanix... He is a rare one, he is. Openly laid seige to the city so many years ago, during a time of weakened local government. He made a damned good run of it too, until we managed to secure a foothold in the town hall area of the city, and finally fight back. Honestly, we were just buying time to evacuate the city... However, others joined what we had, and we managed to hold out long enough for him to exhaust whatever he had, and leave. Obviously, the city is still here. The damaged and losses, are still felt all these years later though. I've also had word that he's returned... He's been clean so far, but we're watching.?

Brian nodded to Ja'spar once more, ?That is some of what we do--- and yes, skulls are indeed cracked Ja'spar. But we do this, because we want to do so. We're not sell-swords, looking to make some coin, while busting a few heads. Anyone can do that--- we're not anyone. We do this because we're moved to do so. And yes, we do get paid for it. But we have rules, and regulations... We're not executioners.?

?It's not pretty, it's not popular... It's not safe. But to me-- it's right.?

Brian quieted down, and just watched the Khajiit.

Ja'spar

Date: 2014-07-11 17:34 EST
The Khajiit stood and simply nodded as the man spoke. Words wouldn't have done justice anyhow.

"Ja'spar...Ja'spar does not wish to be an executioner. Ja'spar came to Rhy'din looking for adventure, but he thinks he may have found his home. Ja'spar is willing to do the job, to protect his home, to protect his friends, and to do what is right. If you allow him..." His voice trailed off, he frankly didn't know where the words came from, they just flowed out.

In the short time Ja'spar has spent in Rhy'din he has come to appreciate it vastly and Brian's conviction to protect Rhy'din inspired him to do the same.

Brian stood slowly, and eyed the Khajiit rather intently...

"Ja'spar, welcome to the 27th Division of the Rhy'Din Watch."

An open hand was stretched towards Ja'spar, "Let's do some good work out there."

Ja'spar

The khajiit's eyes were intense and serious. He looked into Brian's eyes and with a nod reached out to grab his forearm. The khajiit's hands would be a bit too big to perform a proper handshake.

"Will do."
