Alright, back into the fray!

Rhiannon Brock

Date: 2013-09-13 02:31 EST
Rhi is still topside waiting on wounded that need care or transport. She had been assigned to Gamma Team. I've been all over the place lately.

While he's not an Avenger in any capacity, Eregor is available for support up top... at the very least, he can work with DIANA to help boost communications if needed. Remember back at the planning meeting when Ebon said he had "ideas about communication and tracking"? Eregor's tech is what he was talking about, but it's up to Ed on whether he's willing to let anyone else interface with his own tech.

Wanda

The same holds true for Storm. CoS has been asked to remain on standby for additional backup.

Sionn is hunting our mysterious bus driver.

Is Ebon hearing voices? Is the stress getting to him? Stay tuned!

Also, sorry if I stepped on toes when describing the tunnels. I figured, if they weren't part of the known Water Works system, then somebody else must've dug them out and walled them up, though how long ago is anyone's guess. They would be good for moving larger numbers of troops (goblins, maybe?) around, though.

And now your post followed by mine has given me the germ of an idea.

Ebon heard a faint voice crying out, the voice of his daughter Azure (who, as of the time of this story, had been abducted by persons unknown the previous day). Issy's been hearing the repeating dip, reminding her of her prior visit to the undercity... now the latter is likely real enough, but what if someone or something is affecting them, creating or emphasizing these sounds in their minds to heighten their anxiety?

(and yes, Ebon's a powerful psion, but that doesn't mean he's infallible)

Not something I thought to play into, but might I offer this, Ebon, for you to use?

?I will educate them. We all will,? he soon grins and gets to his feet. Like an actor preparing to go on stage, he slips on his knee length green wool coat. He watches as it hems itself to narrow at his waist. From a peg, he removes his wide-brimmed flat-top hat and eases it on his head, feeling its enchantments tap into his cerebral faculties.

I could use that, if Issy and JaX are up for it... something Cain is using to subtly emphasize perception of existing sounds (like the dripping) or implant others (like the girl's voice) in order to evoke specific emotions: fear and anxiety, recklessness, anger, etc.

Then you can hit Alpha with something heavy... perhaps Cain himself, or is it too early? ;)

Ebon comes clean with what's been going on with him recently... let me know if I need to edit any reactions from Issy or JaX.

So he went from edging on a nervous breakdown back to top fighting form in one post. Once the manipulation (from Cain's really nice hat) was perceived, it lost its power and now the villains have to try a different tactic.

Cain and I discussed that tactic in IM the other night, but I'll let him kick it off. ;)

No, Ebon was not reading Issy's mind--that would be rude to do to a friend--but he's heard her speak about how difficult it is for her and her Sisters to deal with the empowered in the past, so it's not hard to guess what she might be thinking.

I considered having him refer to Race and his (former) ring as an example of willpower driving the weapon (literally in that case) but thought that might be too wordy.

Now then, more trouble coming for Team Alpha. Same old thing? Not quite, I think. ;)

Question for Alpha, JaX and Issy are fighting dual weapons, and I would guess Ebon is too? There isn't any natural lighting in that cavern...so my question is. How is everyone able to see? I might have missed that little bit, but it made me wonder after reading Issy's last post. She doesn't exactly have dark vision.

Well, Ebon isn't relying on vision; one aspect of his telekinesis is the ability to sense physical objects around him, which is how (for example) he can mentally lift a boulder that's behind him, without looking at it. Range and sensitivity vary, depending on the size and/or velocity of the object in question.

So he doesn't just do Batman impressions, but Daredevil as well. Not Superman, though, so he can't sense through walls (unless something's moving behind them with enough impact to cause vibrations).

That's a great question. I honestly sort of forgot about that. :-/

Would it be fair to think that all the teams had been outfitted for the subterranean environment by Batten Industries/Avengers with flashlights that they not only were able to hold and manually point around for light, but also had the ability to be say clipped onto their belts and illuminate their surroundings a bit? My guess is that they all knew they were going down into the pitch black and would have made allowances for that. So while it's not like natural light, it still helps them to see more than grope their way along.

Sound fair? Thoughts?

I went back to the planning thread for this op, Under the Radar, and this subject did indeed come up early.

Whatever we're going to encounter is well-adapted for its environment. Once you step past the maintained sewer system, you'll be in complete darkness. We will be at a total disadvantage.
Those of us who can find our way blind should be spread amongst all teams, to guide each one through the tunnels. We might also check if Ranger can equip the others somehow, to offset the lack of sight.

So we kinda addressed the issue and I guess took it read that Batten/Ranger would be supplying aid. Like Issy said, hand lamps (for directed illumination) that clip onto belts for general forward lighting would be good.

In fact, light "bombs" could be potent defensive weapons in the pitch dark.

I mainly asked because I hadn't seen it written into the posts once the team was flushed into that lower chamber. Just wanted some clarity. Though the light issue wont' be much of an issue after a few more posts. Awesome writing guys!

Anyone want to work on a timeline for the readers, so they can follow events?

As of right now it's...

1. Issy calls a press conference. (announces the sewer mapping, and then makes a secret meeting with the Avengers)

2. JaX and Issy have a moment.

3. Cain gathers his Axis. (Summons Renna and Iokaste)

4. Avengers Assemble and a Bus blows up. Start of In the Trenches, (The teams plan goes marginally awry) At this point in time, Mearlyna steals the Gauntlet from the Rhydin Natural History Museum.

5. The Tri-Fecta. Alpha takes on the Horde, Beta is stalled by a leggy blonde, Delta gets a dragon.

6. Vindicator steals St. Agnus.

7. Achievement Locked

8. Achievement Locked

9. Achievement Locked

10. Achievement Locked

If I missed anything, let me know!

All right folks, what do we need to do to get this train rolling?

Who is waiting on whom to post?
Are there any requirements on plot notes?
Philly Steak or Chipotle?
Fries with that shake?

I think I'm actually waiting on you... or rather, on a time when we're both free and awake to throw down with our respective characters. ;)

Philly Steak or Chipotle?
Fries with that shake?
Chipotle... no fries, but I'll take a large shake!
