Jamie McCrimmon

Jamie McCrimmon was one to keep his word.

There were many ways for one person to leave another. Though he couldn't yet know whether he'd depart with the strange new man who was both his Doctor and wasn't, at the very least he had to acknowledge that in one sense, he already had left someone.

It was all right. Jamie knew from Harold that Montgomery had moved on, and he was happy for that.

Still. Time had long since past to keep that word.

His brief note would have the signature of Harold Lee's registered PADD.

Be well. Goodbye.

"La Nature est un temple o? de vivants piliers
Laissent parfois sortir de confuses paroles;

~Charles Baudelaire

"Nature is a temple where each living pillar
At times offers forth confused phrases;
The man passes through the forest of images
Which he observes with familiar regard

As the long echoes mingle in the distance
With a tenebrous and profound unity,
Vast like the night and like the light of day
The perfumes, the colours, and the sounds dance."

He doesn't get the message until weeks later, until it is most probably too late to really respond to it in any way, shape, or form. Which bothers him, to tell the truth. No, actually, if he were to be brutally honest, it hurts. Somehow, thinking that Jamie had just left with his Doctor was a far less painful prospect than the realisation that he'd likely been in Rhy'din the entire time... and had just decided to avoid him.

It felt almost like a betrayal, and for a brief moment, Montgomery had wanted to go into his box and destroy those little tokens that represented Jamie. The moment passed, and he was left to just think.

They hadn't, he supposed, ever really been a couple. Even had they been, what right did he have to demand anything of the lad? Although he would have vastly preferred a proper good-bye -especially considering Jamie had not seen fit to contact him at any point prior to this- it was no longer relevant.

That didn't make it hurt any less, though. He'd thought he'd moved on. Didn't he have Vex now? Well, yes, but he'd be a fool to not admit to himself that had Jamie showed up at any point, he would have likely ignored Vex. Which wasn't very good of him, and he hated admitting that even to himself.

It didn't matter, or, at least, that's what he told himself. It didn't matter. Nothing to be done for it, wash his hands of the matter, clearly they had not felt the same way otherwise he'd have gotten more than three fecking words.

Deep breath.

It was alright, he supposed. He'd get by. He'd done it in the past, had he not? And without even the benefit of a significant other. Although, the current one was female, and he just wasn't sure how that would ever work out, never mind she was also a dragon.

Ah well.

Things would work out.

Of course, it was a bit easier to be philosophical on such matters if you could readily immolate the thing that sparked the pai-

Wait.

"Oh, feck."
