His eyes shot open without hesitation, without regret. The auburn gaze pierced the blackness around him, as he sat up in his bed. The sheets of satin were gentle against the scars of his flesh, the metallic bands wrapped around his wrists, digging into his flesh as his body flexed in the darkened early hours of the morning. He stood up, the silver boxer-briefs clung to his body. He moved around his living quarters in the darkness, his senses telling him where everything was. He suspected that even with out his senses, he had lived here for so long, that his mind would know where to step and what to avoid.

lani, in her knowledge and responsiveness to his demands laid out a fresh set of training clothes. His hand ran across the fabric as he stepped away from the rack that held his morning clothing. He stepped into the bathroom, attending to the immediate need. He stepped back into the room, finding lani had turned on a single light. She was quietly kneeling next to the prepared rack. He said nothing as she stood, pulling the cloths from their resting place and dressing her master. Once he was done, she called the lift to his floor. If anything, he was a creature of habit, of standards. The two rode in the lift as it shot down to the second floor. The doors opened, exposing the great hall of the tower. There was only the sound of his footsteps as his running shoes slapped down the ground as he walked towards the staircase. He came to the entry way, and began to stretch, as lani departed towards the kitchen area.

When he was done stretching the door opened, and he burst out of the tower and began his morning run. It was but a few seconds when Katerrina's red hair was seen out of the corner of his eye. She kept pace with him through out the 2.5 kilometer run. The morning slowly began to come alive as the sun was soon peaking over the horizon. The darkness that surrounded him, however, was unaffected by the waking morning. As the two circled back towards the tower, he could hear the forest recite "clicking" noises, signs that his pets were aware and were watching the forest in their places of shadow and darkness.

Upon returning to the tower, life was quickly arising inside the walls. The smell of prepared food invaded his senses. He stretched again before entering the dinning hall. He and Katerrina reviewed her training as they sat at the table. The girl, alene, brought in two plates of food. The black plate was settled in front of her master gently. She dared not look at him, but offered her gentle and timid greeting of "Good morning, Master." The second plate placed before Katerrina. lani brought forward data pads and quietly reminded him of meetings and new duties or items he had placed on his task list. He listened, but did not seem interested. The food, as always was well prepared. lani pointed out his updates from the previous night as a reminder that he had changed his schedule. The girl was extremely efficient at keeping the matters arranged. As he finished, she informed him that his cloths were laid out and that his morning shower was prepared and that paulina had been assigned to him this morning.

sarah stepped in briefly, offering her own greeting and that she was preparing for the day to work in the field of his garden. She smiled to lani, and with her Master's permission departed for her own chores. The dark lord gave his training assignment and daily duties to Katerrina for the morning which she took without argument. Standing, he departed the room with his arms folded behind him.

The shower was relaxing. There was a strange comfort in the girl running her hands over his form, washing him. When he was done, he stepped out of the shower, drying with the towel, while the girl dried only her arms before she touched the clothing. He was dressed carefully by the girl's hands. The last piece taken from its place next to his bed was the heavy utility belt. The belt was a light brown, weathered and warn. Yet, he saw no reason to replace it. The pockets still carried their wares appropriately. The belt was cinched around his waist and locked into place. His saber was taken, placed in the special lock which rested at the small of his back. One last glance in the mirror as he fixed his short brown hair and then pet the girl gently on the head as he departed his quarters.

The lift already on his floor, he instantly stepped in when the door opened, and down he went. He was down in his office, settling in to his chair to begin reviewing day to day events. Monitors came alive behind him, beginning to pool reports form other facilities. He picked up a data pad and began his checklist. It wouldn't take long to tend to the matters before him. lani knocked on the door frame and only entered once she had been granted permission. He went over the slave reports and items for the tower and the Inn. She offered a small smile as he commended her on her dutiful work once more. She presented him with additional reports for his review and informed him that the Inn's orders were prepared and needed only his signature to begin the ordering process.

He nodded only. He turned to review the monitors once more behind him. There would be much to do and so many hours to do it in. There was only so much time spent in the office at the tower, the real work would begin once he got to the Inn. The trip into town was uneventful, stopping at only a few merchant stands along the way to barter for wares. Few merchants would actually call it "barter"...more like an unfair exchange: Their goods for their lives. The Inn was being cleaned and prepared for the day when he stepped through the door. nori informed her master that a potential customer had already come to call and was waiting for a conversation at his private booth. Travanix nodded and spoke quietly to nori, giving her instructions for the day, reminding her about special meals to be prepared. While lani ran the girls overall, nori ran the Inn when He or lani were not around. She had paid attention to lani, learning organization and preparation - it kept her on His good list.

He settled down into the booth after a brief introduction. Resting his arms on the table, he began to listen. He learned the guest was a slave handler from out west of the city who worked with the less developed villiages in a particular region. He took notice of the methods of the man, who seemed like he hastily cleaned up, probably at the suggestion of nori. Something Travanix learned early on - If you want to talk about business, respect the business. The chat lasted half an hour, the man asking if Travanix would resell the girls if he could get a cut of profit.

The deal was struck after a few more minutes of negotiation. Travanix warned the man that any sort of double-cross would result in the man being sold as stock along with any slaves he provided. The man nodded after a moment of terror rocked his body. They shook hands as they stood from the booth. The man turned and walked out of the Inn. The dark figure smirked as he turned to walk into his office.

Whenever business was discussed, it was time well spent. He often enjoyed the few minutes or hours it would take to negotiate a job or contract. He viewed it as a form of hunting. He moved through out the inn's great hall speaking for a moment with repeat customers and with those that were visiting for the first time. While he traded in the illicit, there was no reason to act like it. However, the day was not to be all business and pleasure: lani, through a messenger, informed him that one of the girls had become openly rebellious towards her at the tower. This was a rarity, but it didn't mean he didn't enjoy it either. This girl had been trouble, even after her breaking. Her will was a pure fire - but what else can you expect from an elementalist?

As he reached the tower, he heard an explosion from the upper floors. He frowned slightly cursing himself - perhaps he should have just altered her DNA after all. He stepped into the marbled hall of the tower, and moved up the first flight of stairs. His course was true as he entered the lift. He closed his eyes a moment, searching out the life of the girl that he would take care of. As the lift came to a stop, he stepped through the door into a slightly smoky room. The elemental girl had caused several fires. He barely looked at the fires before they were out. The room quickly began to clear as the chill in the air began to dominate. The elemental girl dropped to her knees - but it was not by her will. There was a grimace on her face as she tried to look up at the black uniformed figure. "How dare you. I brought you in, I feed you, I protect you. And this is the thanks I receive." His arms folded behind him.

The girl growled, he could feel the heat building up around her once more before the angry grimace became one of pain. "That is not very nice, girl." He shook his head slowly. "I have warned you about this, but now I am afraid because of your stupidity, you will suffer in ways that you only thought existed in your nightmares. She cursed out at him, growling and shrinking at the same time as an invisible pain seemed to engulf her. lani came to his side carrying a blue cylindrical container. She twisted the top off of it allowing a burst of cold to escape. The dark lord reached into the container, pulling out a small shard, looking like crystal. It was blue-white in its color and as long as his finger as he encased it. "This is going to hurt...a lot."

There was no warning.

When he strikes, there never is.

He had reached over, forcing her head down and driven the crystal into the base of her neck. The scream she let out caused him to smirk and close his eyes - such music was beautiful, for every tone and songstress was different, a new experience every time. He drove the shard deep into her neck, a spurt of blood escaped splashing on the floor. He opened his eyes as he released her head, her body falling limp on the floor. "She is alive. But she wishes she was not. Take her to the beasts in the forest, they need to be fed." lani only nodded, closing the canister and placing it on a nearby table before making arrangements to remove the body. He was already on his way back to the inn.

Shopping this late at night was something of a sport. There were more people out at night - off of work, away from their responsibilities. All of them with their guard down, allowing him to manipulate and move in. The lovely young couple at the cafe caught his eye. They were giggling and talking sweetly in that way that only young love can do that doesn't make you sick. If you were young and in love. Unconsciously, he ran his tongue over his teeth looking for cavities. His senses relayed their emotions to him.

He had to turn around to avoid "being creepy". The girl was average height, and a delightful build. Lithe and active, but not athletic - probably works out a couple of times a week. The boyfriend seemed to be of bigger bulk then brains. The stories he told were simple and with little intelligence. He turned to watch over his shoulder slightly. The dark auburn of his eyes flashing in the street lights. The chill in the air was un-concentrated as it moved and crawled. With little effort, that chill became alive and active as it moved towards the girl piercing her clothing and caressing her flesh gently. Her legs began to rub together slowly and her mind became distracted from the boyfriend. Her arm shot out in surprise knocking over her glass into his lap. She released a slight shriek as he jumped up, trying to get as much ice away from his body as possible.

He turned slightly to face the two again. He was trying to wipe it away, and she was trying to get her napkin to him. He laughed and excused himself returning to the cafe. She sat flustered and frustrated. She didn't understand what had come over her. The black uniformed figure moved quietly through the street crowd, approaching the young lady's position. He smirked slightly, the chill in the air moving over the girl like a long lost lover. She let out a moan and then caught herself quickly, looking around to see if anyone had heard her. She was very proper - he would fix that.

He was less than a meter from her when he spoke in his chilled and quiet tones, "It seems that you have been left all alone, my dear."

She turned sharply to him, giggling then quieting down. "No, my boyfriend just needed to clean himself up a moment."

Travanix only nodded. "Still, it is a shame to leave such a delicious girl here, alone. Especially this time of night." He flashed a pleasant smile - a gentleman's smile. "May I talk with you a few moments until he returns?"

He could sense the warning bells going off in the back of her mind, feel the conflict growing between mind and body. "Alright, that would be alright." She seemed to stumble a bit.

He began to talk with her gently, quietly. Though the questions were simple - at first. Simple answers were given in a response. The first "hard" question caused her to blush but the answer quickly came from her mouth. The questions continued to become worse, darker - prodding. The truth came from her, whether she wanted it to come or not. But the gentle caress from the chill that had washed over her flesh rewarded her. A light sheen of sweat was forming over her flesh. He could see the small drops forming on her forehead, but her hands did not move to dry them.

She shifted slightly, one hand reaching up to her neck, smiling something wicked as he continued to interrogate her. His final question came gently, slowly as if pouring verbal honey into her ears: "Is this what you want?" She nodded so quickly, so harshly that he thought her head was about to rocket off her shoulders. He smirked in response. "You know what to do then." And then turned to leave. The chill in the air moved a way from her and she began to become disoriented, and slightly panicked - just as her boyfriend returned. Upon seeing her in her excited and disturbed state he tried to help her, only to receive a backhand as a response to his desire to help. She left the cafe quickly.

The only one that understood who she was, what she wanted was leaving.

She had to find him.

The girl was screaming at the top of her lungs as she was bound to the yellow table. He had done his work for now, and left her to think about what would happen next, between the night air and her wounds, it would not take long in the morning to "whip her into shape". He chuckled at the thought and turned to face the glowing silluette of the city. His arms folded behind him as he stood on the top of the tower, looking down on the city. The chill of the night air adding to the darkness of his own. There was a gentle padding upon the roof behind him. His senses did not need to tell him that she was approaching from behind in her normal fashion. She did not wait for him to acknowledge her as she bowed quietly. Her voice adrift in the breeze that surrounded him. "All is as you have asked, my lord." She said. Even in the private moments, she was formal and respective: These traits were but a few of the qualities he designated her as his First.

"Your service continues to make me proud, my lovely lani." He paused as he watched the city from the distance. "And the girl from earlier this evening?"

"She continues to progress as you have instructed. I have adjusted the warmth on the pad to keep her from freezing to death, but she will not sleep, at least not well." There was some mirth in the girl's tones.

He smirked slightly. "Excellent. I want an early start on the girl, so have the aids ready to get to work."

"It will be as you command, my lord." She nodded behind him. "Have you any other commands this eve?"

A long pause as he inhaled the air, as if taking in the life itself. "Join me in my quarters this evening."

"A pleasure, my lord." She turned knowing that she needed no other command from him - at least while they were on the roof. As she went down the stairs, her own smirk appeared.
