?A warrior must be able to react quickly, but not on instinct. Thoughts must be as fast as your limbs in combat. You must analyze, understand and make a decision within the beat of a heart. Your mind, in the end, must be the ultimate weapon against your enemies.? He instructed as he blindfolded her once more. They stood upon the top of the tower again. It was dusk now. The clicking sound of the hunting terror beasts was easily identified.

?You are not always going to know what?s going on around you and must be able to take in what your senses tell you in an instant and react accordingly.? There was movement around her, behind her and in front of her. ?Around you are 100 dangerous objects that are going to be thrown at you. 25 will kill you in an instant; the other 75 will only injure you.?
He felt his apprentice tense up. ?They are going to come at you in groups of 25, a mixture and from all directions. You need to stop the ones that are going to kill you.?

She said nothing, there was nothing to say.

He said nothing more, her silence told him everything.

The chill of the winter?s night was growing, his own aura not helping. Within a heartbeat, the first round of 25 came from every direction at once, moving at high velocity. Each object was identical in look and feel. There was just enough of a difference that she should be able to pick them out through the Force.

As they came towards her, several of the objects were avoided as she dropped the right with a grunt. She managed to catch several of the objects before they hit her, and then leaned to her right. The objects in her hands were dropped as she reached back to catch the last five.

A second heartbeat.

In the end, only 12 of the objects hit against her body; none of them of the dangerous variety. She quickly stood again, saying nothing else. Her breathing was quick, but not labored. The last of the objects were dropped as the next round came at her. Her hands swept the air, taking 12 of the objects flung at her, as she dropped and rolled backwards. She was careful of her footing as stood ? her left heal was at the edge of the rooftop. That didn?t stop the objects from changing and heading towards her now. She flipped forward, landing sure footed before dropping the objects and reaching behind her to take 12 more out of the air as they followed her.

They were dropped again, but only because the last one impacted against her back. It felt like one of his punches ? Violent and merciless. She fell to her knees. There was no rest, however.

She ?looked? up, as the next batch began to hunt for her. They were moving faster now, she only managed to catch 10 of them before rolling backwards once more. She kicked up wards taking out five more. Her hands in fists slammed against 8 more. Her momentum allowed her to dodge the last two.

She wasn?t worried, until the last group. Her mouth opened slightly in whatever shock she allowed herself to feel ? Nearly all of the last group were killers. At least 15 of them.

Worse than that was the fact that she ?saw? they were poisonous which meant she couldn?t touch them, couldn?t catch them.

Can?t fight them.

She dropped quickly, reaching out to take five of the non lethal ones, before dodging seven of the killers. Beads of sweat were beginning to form on her brow. Seven more came for her ? all killers. She flipped in the air, then hit the ground and rolled; taking several of the objects she dropped and threw them behind her. They exploded shrapnel going everywhere. Her feet crunched through the debris as she began her final movements to avoid the rest. The rest came at her all at once from the side, homing in on her. She was coming close to the edge before she dropped backwards, her back slamming against the ground.

She ?saw? the last few fly by her before she rolled to her side and moved back towards the center. Her breathing was harder. She turned sharply and extended one hand. A look of determination formed upon her features as dark blue lightning began to arch between fingertips of her extended hand. She let out a feral yell as the lightning grew and attacked the incoming orbs that tracked her back. The rest exploded and became dust falling to the tower roof.

She was breathing heavily. The strike of force lightning coming from her more shock than the combat itself.

She had indeed grown?faster.

Katerrina Hess

Katerrina nodded once as the blindfold tightened over her eyes. She listened to his instructions. Her body went into a ready stance the instant she felt the movement around her.

She could see each object's position in her mind's eye. The subtle differences that told her which were killers were noted. The way they flanked and swarmed was taken into account.

All in a heartbeat.

She felt the impacts. She used the pain they caused her as fuel. Her fists and feets combined to make the objects so much debris. She saw where the remains were in her mind's eye, using them to her advantage when she crushed the third group. A surge of confidence went through her.

Until the final group.

The poison coating the killers looked like lubricating oil. Katerrina grabbed the few non-lethal objects, only to drop them when seven killers buzzed her. Her pain and frustration boosted her leap, and added strength to the thrown objects. Half the killers exploded. The rest swarmed her.

An electric blue haze rose in her mind's eye. Katerrina's thoughts were on the killers' destruction. They had to be destroyed. Her hand flew out, her fingers stretched. She had to destroy them. She felt needles jabbing her fingers. She screamed as the lightning flew from her and into the last of the objects, "seeing" them explode into powder in her mind. The dust fell heavy on the stones.

A heartbeat, then another. Katerrina slowly raised a hand to her blindfold. The power still made her fingers tingle. Power that flowed like a drug within her.
