The terrain outside the tower was a mixture, but where he was training her at?where he was beating the spit out of her?was a rocky place near the base of the mountain. His blade hummed again in the air, but it was the right cross against her jaw that made contact.

He slammed her down to the ground again. Her saber hand hitting the ground hard, the blade deactivating; His own saber still humming. ?Get up, girl. You?re embarrassing yourself.? He said darkly, as he grabbed her by the hair to pull her back up. The uniform she wore was cut up in several places, ripped or missing patches. Several of those had cuts in her flesh or bruises.

?You continue to defend yourself, why? The best defense is a good offence." He paused, letting her recover herself. "This is not a dance, and I am not defenseless." He brought his blade up again. ?Attack me!? He instructed harshly!

She hissed as he dragged her to her feet by her hair. Her jaw throbbed where his fist connected. A large chunk of her training unitard was missing over her hip, a nasty scrape oozing and bleeding. Another patch was torn on her chest. Her knuckles were raw where her hand slammed into the ground. She clutched her lightsaber, ignoring the stabbing pain as the wounds on her knuckles opened and bled. She fought as she'd been trained, and all it got her was a severe beating.

With a snarl, Katerrina re-ignited her lightsaber, swinging the purple blade in an overhand strike as she leapt for him, letting her anger and frustration power the blow.

The release of her anger did her no good against him. Against a droid, it would be slagged metal. Against him, it earned her a new pain. He grabbed her wrist, twisting her arm sharply. He forced her to bend enough that he could drive his knee into her chest, then slam her to the ground again. "What have I told you, girl? Were you even paying attention? Anger can strengthen you, give you power."

He slammed his heel down against her spine sharply. "Tainted and uncontroled, anger will only leave you open to a beating."

He walked a few paces off. "Control your anger, focus it down through your arms, but let it keep your mind and senses clear. Allow the Dark Side to do the rest." He brought his saber up again to position. "Attack me!"

The twist of her arm forced a cry from her. His knee crashing her back to the rocky ground had her once again eating dirt. His heel in her spine was the final humiliation. Pieces began to fit together in her mind. All this time, she'd been clinging to what she'd been taught, trying to keep to her ways. Katerrina knew now that her way was going to get her very dead.

For the first time, Katerrina deliberately used the Dark side. She tapped her anger and her frustrations, but didn't allow the emotions to take over. She felt a surge of power go through her arms, the pain in her knuckles adding to the rush. A cold glint lit up her eyes when she re-ignited her lightsaber. Instead of a wild rush, Katerrina came in with a fake to her right, and a sharp blow coming from her left, the purple blade a blur as she moved faster than she ever had.

A rush! Finally! His own senses alerted him to her attack. It was raw, it was focused. He could feel the anger seath from her.

Excellent.

His saber blocked the blow of her blade, the forearm of his free hand blocked the alternate attack. She was fast, but he was still faster. His blocks turned to attacks just as quickly as she came at him. The saber pushed and hissed against hers, until both were crossing near the hilts.

And he smirked.

A leg shot out, hooking her knee from the backside, sending her to the ground.

"Better, your speed and power continue to improve. Remember though, the darkside will make your entire body a weapon. Use it." He struk a pose waiting for her to come at him again.

Katerrina bounced back to her feet. It was all coming together now. She still felt the rush from the Dark side, and it flowed as she doubled up her attacks. Her blade sliced upwards at the same time she spun a leg around to catch her Master's ankles. She had little experience with hand-to-hand combat, the first time being when Lani literally handed her her head on a platter. Katerrina let instinct guide her as she kept on the offensive, aiming a palm heel strike for his face to follow up the slash.

Fast recovery. His foot lifted as she took a strike at it, mean time bring her blade to bear upon him. He nearly didn't make it, his body twisting to avoid her.

To avoid the others he nearly was taken out by the palm strike that was reaching for him. "Good! I can feel the anger flow off of you!" His own hand blocked at her elbow, deflecting her palm strike, his blade taking care of hers.

"You are too stiff relax a bit more, but not so much your muscles are of no value to you!" He countered with a quick headbutt to the bridge of her nose before he twisted her arm again, holding it in place this time. Only their saber hands were free. The cold iron like grasp holding her arm behind him.

"Can you still win a battle with only one arm, apprentice?"

Of course, she wasn't going to win *this* battle...

She relaxed into her moves, the Force running through her like never before. Until his forehead cracked her nose, causing more of her blood to flow. She sensed him reaching for her arm and attempted a dodge, but Master Travanix was that much faster.

"Can you still win a battle with only one arm, apprentice?"

Katerrina replied in the most direct way. She twirled her saber and drove the hilt of it towards his nose. If she was going down, she wanted to at least draw his blood.

He saw it coming.

Worse, he felt it coming. But couldn't get his blade hilt in place to stop it.

She made contact, blooding his nose. It was at that point, his own rage increased his power, his body went from teaching combat, to his own mixture. Between the Dark Side at his command and the military training under his belt, he became fluid, saying nothing else.

Her trapped arm was broken with a sharp motion from the arm holding it in place behind him. The saber blade drove down into her thigh, cutting tendons and ligaments, causing her to tilt and lean. The pain in her arm as he still held it would have been incredible.

If it hadn't been drowned out by the pain he caused when he threw her against a large boulder, face first, and shot his knee against the small of her back.

Finally, he spoke "If you dare draw blood, draw it from someplace that will cause your opponant to rethinking getting up."

Any satisfaction Katerrina had for getting a blow to land for once was gone in the millisecond it took for her trapped arm to snap. He moved faster than she could, stabbing her thigh before she could knock his saber away. Her arm bending in a way it shouldn't was horribly painful. The rock she met face first was excruciating. His knee shoving her further into the rock by the spine was agony.

Katerrina heard her Master's words through a haze of pain and rage. She tried to get up to continue the fight, only to crash against the boulder. Frustration beat at her. She dug the fingers of her good hand into the rock and again tried to get up, but her leg wouldn't hold her, and she fell hard, getting more bloody scrapes for her efforts.

She felt a burning in the pit of her stomach as she struggled to get back on her feet. A howl of rage and frustration tore through the stillness, a sound that grew and swelled as she continued to scream. The offending boulder shattered into pebbles, and the pebbles flew in all directions. The ground shook under his feet. Katerrina screamed and screamed until she was hoarse, and the surrounding area suffered for it.

The scream was peircing, sharp and violent. Something so beatiful called forth something dark and vile, pure and sadistic. The power, the Force that was called forth from the darkest part of her body.

He stumbled backwards, his feet, his senses trying to regain settling. He nearly collapsed as the scream finally began to die.

As his senses came back, he began to chuckle. The chuckle grew into a dark laugh.

"Well done, apprentice. Well done indeed. It is about time you've tapped your full potential." His fallen saber flew from the ground, snapping into the palm of his hand. "You may live."

Katerrina was on one knee, her injured leg dangling. Both bones of her broken forearm protruded through her skin. Her entire body was a mass of bruises and scrapes. His laughter sent chills through her spine. The evidence of destruction had her mind reeling. This was something she'd done on her own, without being shown or told. And she knew deep within herself she could do it again.

Getting back to her feet, on the other hand, wasn't going to be so easy. Katerrina could see the muscle twitch deep in her thigh. With a hiss of pain, she rolled up on her good leg, powering herself back upright. She was wobbly, but she was standing. A thought brought her lightsaber back to her good hand. It would take more than meditation to heal all the injuries.

She managed a slight bow, and started hobbling back towards the Tower.
