Will sat in a booth at the Inn, staring at a blank page in his journal. He had decided to go through with running for governor, but he knew it was not going to be easy. With no experience in politics he was going to have to learn as he went. A relative newcomer to the town he knew a few people, but no one well enough to expect any endorsements or help. He was going this one alone. Luckily for him he had spent virtually none of the money he had made since taking on his job as guard, so he had enough for a few appearances.

Will tapped his pencil on the blank page. How should I go about this, he thought. He started to jot down a list of ideas as they came to him.

1-Establish platform
1-Meet+greets: locations?
2-Advertising: Replace current posters for god's sake
3-Homework on opponents
4-Homework on workings of city

Will paused, then wrote down "No one knows who you are." He turned to the next page and tore it out, folding it into a small table tent. On one side he wrote "William Somnia for Governor." That's... probably fine. He set it on the edge of his table, took a drink of his mead, and went back to writing.

5-Free alcohol at meet+greets (food?)

The night's "meet and greet" brought only one person: Coco Walters.

Will got into the habit of carrying his name-tent in his pocket, setting it on the table of whatever cafe, bar or coffee shop he visited. It had not attracted one single person, except for the server handing him the bill. Today it was a rustic brewery with a few modern touches, namely the one flat-screen television in one corner.

You'll be done before the primaries, what are you even doing here? he thought as he sipped an experimental pumpkin red from a frosted mug.

The bartender turned the TV's volume up as a late-breaking special report broke in. Will's eyes snapped to the screen as he heard the Humanity First spiel followed by destruction. He squinted to make out faces on the bodies on screen...

Two of them Will recognized; off-duty guards that had taken it upon themselves to check up on the rally. His comments during the interview had not changed anything at work, but some of his co-workers had decided to start pushing their patrols out further to try to cover more ground.

As Will watched the following press conference, his grip on the mug tightened. "Why would they set up down on the docks?" he thought. "And who would do something so stupid? They're just fueling his agenda..."

Will drummed his fingers on the mug, taking mental notes. "Justice... vengeance... the Watch... a fae prisoner... Maybe I should have a talk with the most prominent fae I know." The TV switched back to regular programming and he stood, bringing the mug up to chug the rest. He paused, looked into it for a second, and set it on the bar. Dropping a few coins onto the counter, he turned from the bartender and headed for the door. "Sorry, I'm gonna need to be sober for this one."

As Will headed north towards the Old Market, he passed a curio shop with an "old" Earth television in the window. Seeing images of the fae prisoner on screen, he stopped and leaned into the open doorway.

"Hey, turn this one up" Will yelled in to the shopkeeper. The man fumbled under the counter and took out a remote, turning the volume up loud enough to be heard outside the shop.

As he watched the most recent Humanity First broadcast, Will's lip turned up in disgust. Ten hours, he thought, you're running out of time. He resumed his walk north, only slowing to read a large post on a bulletin board: voting for the primaries had begun.

"Hell," he muttered to himself, "you're out of time."
