Rhy'Din Kakure-Kai, or Rhy'Din Hidden Society, is a global storyline involving the attempted take-over of the city by the Aizukotetsu-kai, a Kyoto-based Yakuza organisation. Rather than being a stand-alone gang, the Aizukotetsu-kai is a federation of approximately 100 of Kyoto's various yakuza groups, comprising an estimated 7,000 members, and they plan on beginning a group here in Rhy'Din.

This thread will contain all the OOC information necessary for you to play into this story. The initial plan is to give different businesses and individual players their very own group of Yakuza thugs to play with. The Kakure-Kai will attempt to extort "protection money" from your business. If you refuse, you might find your workers injured, your production facilities sabotaged, your shipments rerouted through a portal to Japan. If you agree, you still might find these things happening, though certainly to a lesser degree.

We hope that by giving you your own NPCs to play with and turning your imaginations loose, there will be no waiting for others to post or trying to arrange schedules to play out a live scene. You may do whatever you want with your little Yakies - kill 'em, maim 'em, we don't care. Just make sure that you leave your thread titles so others can follow and play off your actions.

If you have any questions or comments or suggestions, please feel free to leave them in this thread, or PM me or David. If you'd like to become involved with this story, leave a comment in this thread and let's get started!

I sincerely hope that this can be another great global storyline in a long list of the same. Have fun with it!

The power hierarchy of Rhy'Din's Kakure-Kai is similar to the pre-existing structure of the Yakuza groups in Japan. At the top of the heap, is the oyabun, in this case a very powerful man called Ryu-san, or in English, simply Dragon. He is a ruthless business man who will stop at nothing to get what he wants. He is shrewd, intelligent, ambitious, merciless, and clever. He will remain in Japan and probably never set foot in Rhy'Din.

Directly responsible for the day-to-day operations, collecting the profits of the Kakure-Kai's dealings in Rhy'Din, and delivering the oyabun's instructions is a wakagashira, or first lieutenant, called Kōtetsu. No less ambitious or ruthless than Ryu-san, Kōtetsu is far more circumspect, however, and tends to think far more than Ryu-san. He will probably remain within the Kakure-Kai's headquarters, which is located near the docks in the southwestern part of the city, while his men carry out the oyabun's instructions.

Underneath Kōtetsu are four shateigashira, or second lieutenants. They are called Akito, Daitaro, Ishi, and Katsutoshi. They are each individually responsible for a group of four kyodai, or big brothers, who are fully initiated members of the Kakure-Kai. This means that they have gone through the initiation rites, namely sharing a dish of sake with Ryu-san and abandoning all familial ties, promising their lives and honour for the advancement of their Yakuza group and ultimately, their oyabun.

The kyodai are the ones who will be most visible on the streets and in the businesses of Rhy'Din. Only when there is an attack or fight will the others be seen and it is doubtful that Kōtetsu will ever show his face outside the headquarters. Please feel free to treat the kyodai as you would Doritos - chew 'em up, spit 'em out, knock 'em about, kill 'em - whatever. We'll just make more. The four shateigashira and the wakagashira are off-limits for violence...for now; feel free, however, to mention them in your posts as they are the most important figures in Rhy'Din's Kakure-Kai.

Hopefully this little bit of information will make it easier for you to use the Kakure-Kai in your posts. Again, if you need clarification on anything, please post in this thread or drop David or I a PM.

Finally got around to providing a response from Dominic for the attack on GrangerGuild. It probably won't have any direct dealings with the Yakuza, but here it is, anyway.

The Kakure-Kai in Rhy'Din have ramped up their attempts to bring the city to their knees. Ever the savvy businessman, Ryu-san has directed his men to exploit the epidemic and use it to turn a profit. And the best way to turn a profit during a public health crisis? Hold the cures for ransom.
