Carley

Carley had heard of this place before- The Forge. Though she didn't think the name particularly creative, she heard the people that worked there did excellent work. And given her idea and the amount of money she and the rest of The Stitch team was willing to chip in for it, it better be excellent! If not even better than that. It took her a little while to find this place, since she had never been there before, but after wandering around various side streets in the southern market she found it. It was a pretty big place really, at three stories. She was used to seeing one and two story buildings in the market, but the bigger buildings were a little more rare to her eyes.

Seeing as the storefront was open, the little blonde elf jaunted her way inside. She may have been an odd sight to those unfamiliar with her; particularly short, clad in her cloak, a long sleeved shirt with billowing sleeves, a vest on that, denim shorts over thick white stockings (that were accumulating a few holes and runs- she should really replace those) and a big brown tote bag. Aside from the tote? Her clothing was all in some shade of blue, with maybe a little white. It almost always was. And on top of her head? A beret, coupled with a feather. The one she purchased berets from had finally reopened, and she took advantage of that situation.

Moving further into The Forge, bright blues darted about curiously, nose crinkling a little. One moment she'd pick up scents of metal and the next it was floral, spicy, and...pumpkin? It was almost dizzying. And she couldn't help but take note of all the Christmas decorations about. Gold streamers and red bows and garland and mistletoe and gosh, what was up with all the candles!? Each had a different scent, and the mixture was peculiar to her little nose. "Ugh." A finger was lifted and held beneath nose as Carley tried to walk away from the candles and escape their smell. "Someone sure likes candles." She paused, gaze resting on the other decorations. "...and Christmas." It didn't strike her as particularly masculine, and blacksmiths seemed like they should be.. masculine. Maybe the one working this place was a woman?

Something about the mix of it all was.. well.. creeping her out! It just didn't fit together. So with a little shudder she tried turning away from it all, searching for a person to talk to. "Hey! Someone in here? I don't got all day ya know!" Hand shifted away from her nose so that she could settle both upon her hips, tapping her foot impatiently upon the ground. She was surely the most intimidating 4'10" elf there was.

The methodical strike of his hammer sent a circular shower of sparks away from the red hot bar of metal that was upon the anvil towards the rear of the storefront. It looked almost impossible to swing an arm that large and heavily muscled as well as the blacksmith did, compounded with the giant cross peen hammer that was held within his gloved hand, it was amazing that he moved with such ease. He was a sight in a simple thin cloth shirt that clung desperately to his thick muscled, enormous frame, that was covered by a brown leather smock. He paused the monotonous movements of his hammer and glanced up towards the front of the store.

Carley was noted with a firm shake of his head. He smiled brightly at her, the two perfect rows of ivory teeth deeply contrasting the chocolate shade of his skin. The pincers in his hand moved and he placed the red hot bar of metal into a bucket of water a loud hiss and steam coming up when the hot metal met the waters surface. He towered over Carley almost a full three feet, and was wide around at the waist as the anvil he worked on. He removed one of his leather gloves to offer a wave.

"Hey! Someone in here? I don't got all day ya know!"

"Hello!" He said in his deep bass voice. "I am Jon Henri. Welcome to my forge. Is there anything I can do for you today?" He was making a desperately comical attempt at seeming smaller than he actually was, hunching his shoulders forward and inwards as not to scare the poor blond haired elf away.

When Carley heard Jon Henri, bright blues snapped that way, widening just as soon as they settled upon the giant. "Holy sh- geez yer tall!" And no amount of scrunching or hunching was going to hide that fact! More in awe than fear, the little blonde elf bounced a bit closer, peering upwards. "You musta drank a lot of milk growin' up.. oh! Or are ya a half giant? That makes sense, big as ya are, cuz yer not just tall, you look like you can snap people in half pretty easy. I bet this job is easy for ya huh?" She gestured around before continuing on in her rambling. "I don't even see why ya need the tools, you could probably bend stuff or just chew on metal to break it. I'd sure hate to get on yer bad side..." Blue gaze was faraway for a moment, as she considered how Jon Henri would be in a fight. Though even at his size he didn't exactly come off as menacing to her. Smiling brightly, she shook her head to clear her thoughts.

"Anyways, there is definitely something you can do for me. I heard about this place and that ya did good work and-" She had slipped her hand into her bag and started rummaging around. "-I need a sign made. A really nice one too, and I can even afford it since everyone's chippin' in on it, so I don't want it made of cheap iron or copper, but I don't know if silver would work, and gold might be too gaudy, and platinum and mithril might be too pricey. And people might try stealin' that anyways, since it'd be so valuable." A couple papers were pulled out of her bag as she stepped next to Jon Henri. "What I want is a round sign, perfect circle about.. oh.. hm..." She pondered momentarily, before holding hands apart, about two feet apart. "This big? But I don't want words on it."

Carley knew what she wanted, and was getting straight to business, not letting poor Jon Henri get much of a word in edgewise. One paper was unfurled, and on it? Was a vague, sketchy oak tree design she had gotten when she set the paper over step stools in The Stitch- that bore the oak tree carvings Glenn put in all pieces of his furniture- and scribbled over it with a pencil. The other paper was an envelope, bearing the oak tree insignia in the waxy seal. Both of these were shown off to the giant. "I know neither one of these are great renditions, but I didn't really wanna drag furniture across town to show ya. I was kinda hopin' they'd be good enough to give you an idea of what I want engraved on the sign?" Finally her talking ceased, and curious eyes peered up and up and up and up towards the chocolate skinned man.

"Holy sh- geez yer tall!" Jon Henri could do nothing but shirk his shoulders forward even further as he began to turn sheepishly red upon his brown cheeks. "Um, yes. I am no giant though." He said with a nod of his head, even though his voice boomed and rumbled as if he were a giant. When Carley seemed to rattle on regardless of what he had interjected.

While she began to explain her needs he nodded his head, listening with his rapt attention. Listening he began to rustle around his work bench and unrolled a blank piece of drafting parchment across it. When she showed him the oak tree and gave him a vague idea of its dimensions he began to scrawl with a piece of cylindrical charcoal. His fingers moved deft over the drafting parchment and hung out of the side of his mouth as he worked, observing the oak tree and drawing. When he thought it was satisfactory he held up the sign, the circle was drawn perfectly, and the oak was recreated to almost every detail involved. "This is just a rough draft. I shall get the fine details down later, but does this look good? I can make it of steel burnished to a shine so that it does not stain even underneath the rain. Would you prefer the oak tree to be raised or engraved?" He began to draw once more. This next drawing was a perfect circle once more with the oak tree shaded in, each variation in shade made to like like each different branch or leaf was in the background or foreground of the drawing. "If it is raised I can give it depth." He said gesturing to the paper. "If it is engraved all I can do is put the pattern into the metal. But it is your preference that matters." He said, nodding his head and waving his finger towards Carley. "Do you have a name, m'lady?"
