Welcome, one and all, to the folder for Locke, Atalanta, and Chase! This thread is for general comments/questions/ideas/praise/silliness/etc. Let the fun commence!

One quick thought: if you have a better idea for the folder name or description? Let me know. I'm sitting on this one until I can come up with something better.

*Squee!* That is toooooooo cute, by far, to echo what everyone else has said.

Locke does love the ice cream, though. And ice. And just about anything cold, honestly... :)

YEAH!

I like the name. You sound like rappers. You should all wear rappery clothes!

......

And say "Word" a lot.

And carry microphones for NO reason.

Maybe 'Lanta could wear a clock....

Atalanta

So on it.

But do I have to wear the grill, too? Those kind of freak me out.

Locke DVestavio

I like the name. You sound like rappers. You should all wear rappery clothes!

I was actually thinking of the British rap groups who frequently use the word crew to describe themselves, though it's apparently a general rap term? I.E. So Solid Crew, Roll Deep Crew, etc. And a general British term for group of friends, I think.

Time for Locke to bust out the Adidas track suit?

Time for Locke to bust out the Adidas track suit?

YES! Oh my god, yes!

HO-tel, MO-tel, Holiday INN! Say, if your girl starts acting up, then you take her friend!

White Apocalypse

Chasey? A rapper? Well Daaaaaang. Tha's some cuh-razzay sheet dawg!

Uh. Lanta? CHASE WOULD SO BE THE HOST OF THE KILLER GRILL.

She's gemmed up anyway. And she keeps her pimp hand STRONG!

I can imagine Locke with a GINORMOUS Snowflake bling-bling necklace with a beret and oversized sunglasses that have snowflakes in diamonds.

He could rub his chin alot and ring in all the ICE COLD HONEY!

Necromesh

Firstly, Chase WOULD totally be rockin' the grill.

Locke though, I'd think he'd be one of the "giant jeans belted around his thighs with basketball shorts underneath" ones. You know, blinged to the moon and whatnot?

And 'Lanta.... Well, the clock says it all. A different biznatch for every hour of the day! XD

White Apocalypse

Locke: "I can't hear ya! I said, what's cooler than being cool?!"

Chase and Lanta: "ICE COLD!!!!"

Sorry. Had to express that one. I have that Outkast song on my head. "Hey ya" if you all remember. =P

Just an FYI, me (and by proxy, Locke) are going to be more or less out of commission for the rest of the week. I'm dealing with some personal stuff, and SLs and RP and all that good stuff are going to have to take a back seat for a while.

I'm doing better now, folks, and I'll probably slowly but surely be getting back into the swing of things in the next week or so. RP has been one of the saving graces of the last few days, and I'm glad that people have been understanding both of my need to take a break and my need to keep my mind of off things and just play. But yeah, I'm fine, things are getting better, and I'm looking forward to getting back to my semi-regular schedule of stuff.

And in case you're wondering about the slashies through some of my old threads, don't panic. I just decided to lock those threads up. More for me to know what's done and what still needs work (and to prevent Pr0n bots from posting there).

Locke DVestavio

Date: 2008-04-19 14:37 EST
Quick question: I'm debating setting up a few different OOC threads, to cover various things that might be of interest. One for character information, one for setting information (places our characters are from and regularly interact at), and the standard music/lyricz thread. Does that sound like a good idea? A bad idea? Meh?

Really, I'm just looking for an excuse to post lyrics to bands I like and to see more information on the Eclipse and Banesmeath ;). But I'd definitely be willing to lend a helping hand to any description-type tasks you have in mind, once the dust settles a bit on my current SL.

White Apocalypse

Date: 2008-04-20 11:09 EST
The building enthusiasm of Eclipse from several different individuals is heartwarming to say the least. Makes me all warm and fuzzy inside! And due to this hype that just seems to keep on building, I've decided to get a folder in the works for Eclipse alone.

However, perhaps it's my bad habit of missing what's right under my nose. It's familiar, but what is this I hear about...Banesmeath? I'll accept looking stupid as hell, but I know little to nothing of the such. A bit of cluing in would be mucho appreciated! I'll even wear the tall white dunce hat if that's what it takes!

But, for the upcoming Eclipse folder I keep procrastinating on...I will be sure to open a thread dedicated to song requests OOC and even IC....It'd be fun to open a "DJ Request Box" or something for charries to put in songs.

Locke DVestavio

Date: 2008-04-20 15:24 EST
I definitely look forward to seeing a folder dedicated to Eclipse. If you want that "Ballad of Gypsy Rose" thread in that folder, it's totally cool if you take it. Seems a better fit there than here, perhaps?

I am not too familiar with Banesmeath either, seeing as it is Atalanta's player's creation, but from what I can tell, it's either the country or continent she's from? Something a la Australia, if memory serves me right. Tamleix is the city there she's from, right?

I have to get on the ball and describe Locke's home world, even if (SPOILER ALERT!) it's going to be a long time before I revisit that in SLs (END SPOILER ALERT). Locke's back story is probably the most nebulous of any charrie I've worked with, having been built with bits and pieces that have come to me as I've gone through play.

Anyways, another thought on OOC threadz. Though this has mostly been a folder for closed SLs and live RP reposts and stuff like that, do you think we should post rules for interaction, in case people want to go for open SLs with our charries? Shoot me a PM if you have any questions or comments.

Atalanta

Date: 2008-04-20 15:39 EST
And she surfaces!

Locke-mun is such a clever fellow! Indeed, Banesmeath is the landmass of origin, though, I'm thinking it's smaller than a continent, since so few have heard of it. It's an island, though, and close to other Rhydin lands. Tamleix is her city, located in one of Banesmeath's counties (much like Ireland's counties, though provinces don't seem to be included).

The more you know! ;P

Something of a question for Chase-mun: Are the SLs you're working on in the Dragon's Tales folders regarding Night Rose from the past, or the present?

And another question: Is Night Rose gonna do a reunion tour? Or a reunion concert, at least?

And for the Ballad of Gypsy Chase thread? Ah, thanky sooo much. You're amazing, Locke-mun!

I'll clean up the two threads I have up with specific informations OOC in the paranthesis.

I'm so lucky to have such thoughtful, tedious players to interact with. You all spoil me, I swear! Don't stop though! ;-)

Thanks for the praise, Dark-mun and Chase-mun. It's been fun playing and writing with you as well.

And no worries about the time-line stuff, Chase-mun. Everyone handles past and present in their writing differently. My preference, for better or for worse, take it or leave it, is to do what you did. Bold stuff at the top of each thread/post, indicating time and place.

And definitely no worries about the thread. Whatever'll get you to what you need for a folder.

I'm totally looking forward to seeing how everything plays out with all our charries. :)

Locke DVestavio

Thank you for the kind words :). Here's hoping I can get that and the other introspective thread I'm working on (Tactile) done before too long. Sometimes it feels like it takes me forever to write those posts.

Locke DVestavio

Date: 2008-05-19 19:47 EST
If the two posts in "Just When I Thought I was Out..." look awfully familiar, it's for a reason. I resurrected some of the details and action of a SL I had previously deleted and retconned that was set in the same setting. Trying to save myself time and effort, and I still think the descriptions there will work for the new SL :) So if it looks like plagiarism? Well, I'm just borrowing from myself. :P

Locke DVestavio

Oh, and I just altered the timeline of when the events of "Just When I Thought I Was Out..." happened. Moved things up a couple of days. It'll make more sense, when the whole set of threads related to the SL are resolved. Also, stayed tuned to this spot for a very special announcement! :)

While I haven't gotten my part of it done yet, here's the surprise! G's player and I whipped up a quick little SL over at Rings of Honor to partially explain Locke's motivation for returning to a life of crime. You can read it here. I will try to get Locke's part up in the next day or so.

And just to keep the timeline straight, this occurs between Valie's first visit to Locke on Sunday and Locke's subsequent visit to Calf's on Tuesday. Don't worry folks. There's definitely more to come :).

Many thanks to G's player for going along with this idea.

Already posted the playable RE: Locke and co.'s robbery of the bank. However, the heist proper has not been played out yet. Which is good news for (general) you.

As mentioned in the playable, some safety deposit boxes in the bank were hit. If you would like your character to have a safety deposit box that was robbed by the thieving duo, send me a PM with the character's name (if not immediately obvious) and a list of the contents that would be in said box. We'll totally incorporate it into the heist scene, when it gets done :). Act now (or within the next couple of days)! Time and supplies are limited!

More bonus Locke coverage over at Rings of Honor! The thread "Besmirched Honor" is a little something that me and the player of Celestia Starr did some time ago, but saved until after the Duel of Swords Madness tourney. Special thanks to G's player, both for generously allowing us to post in his folder and for allowing us to borrow the Golden Ivy Tavern setting and NPCs therein for our scene.

Stay tuned here and over at RoH for more details on Locke's Honor Match. :)

Another small thing, to give credit where credit is due. Don't know if you've seen the public ad floating around for Locke's folder, but if you do so, you should know that the photograph was taken and resized (under the guidelines of a Creative Commons license) from a photograph taken by CaptPiper over on Flickr (original available here. I am very grateful that the photographer allowed for non-commercial usage of their work, as well as resizing, as I think it is a gorgeous photograph.

That is all.

For those of you who may have been awaiting news on the Locke Honor Match SL that was in the works over at Rings of Honor, I have some sad news for you today. After much thought and deliberation, I have decided to cancel the Honor Match SL. My interest and my heart quite simply are no longer into the SL, and it's better to cancel it and redirect my energies to SLs I am fully interested in than to go through the motions of something that no longer has my full interest.

I would like to thank those that were involved or had planned to be involved in the SL, for going along with it. The players of Celestia Starr, Karen Wilder, Vinny, Bran Bale, Grayson, G, Lydia Loran, and Querylon all did a great job contributing to the SL in one form or another, and I appreciate their efforts, even if the SL won't reach the conclusion I was shooting for when I started out. Thank you so much, each and every one of you.

I'm testing a new way of rendering dialogue. Or rather, a newer way for me. I've stripped all the color out of the speech in the posts I've made thus far for "Tactile," and tried to make it as clear as possible within the scenes who is talking and to whom. Feel free to let me know if it works and if it's clear or not.

Just a quick line to say thanks to everyone who played the Hogmanay scene out, and let Locke tag along as well. I had a great time playing that, and writing up the post-Hogmanay scene as well.

As noted in the thread's prelude, not all of the writing in that section is my own. And I want to make absolutely sure I'm being kosher with that. So if anything you wrote is in those posts, and you do not want it in them, or you have a complaint about it, let me know and I will gladly pull the posts.

Thanks,

B.

Locke DVestavio

Quick note on the Elvish in the "Early Announcement" thread. While much of it comes from The Grey Company's Elvish dictionary, it (like just about every Elvish dictionary/Web site out there) is by no means perfect or complete. Therefore, if one were to attempt to translate out all the elvish in that thread, they'd have an awful hard time, since some liberties were taken. In the future, I will probably do more of that when using Elvish for flavor in posts.

Locke DVestavio

Date: 2009-04-06 13:55 EST
An author's note and clarification on the latest post "Temper, Temper," in the thread "Settle Down." Athelstan, the fashion designer, is in no way related to Athlstan, the 23rd and 27th Overlord of Duel of Swords, among other titles. Any similarities between the two are entirely, 100% coincidental.

Hopefully this will clear up (or prevent) any confusion.

Locke DVestavio

Date: 2009-04-11 20:58 EST
More notes, and thanks to be spread. The character of Gerard Smith and the setting of Highlife Haberdashery are the creation of Koyliak's player, who has graciously allowed me to integrate them into my play.

And if I've done anything in my expanded description of Gerard that doesn't gibe with the way you see him, Koy-mun, please let me know and I will set it to rights. :)

Koyliak

Date: 2009-04-17 09:59 EST
No complaints here! I love seeing Gerard and more of the New Haven fashion scene in play. If anything I was going to ask you how much you'd think Gerard would tell Koy about how Locke's doing/plans for him during one of their lunches on Benson Blvd (which one of these days I'm going to write a wiki entry for honest)?

Koy's been using herself as a walking billboard for her women's wear for years - now if Locke does the same for men's fashion and they get into a ring together that will be a lot of flash & pizazz in the Outback!

Locke DVestavio

Date: 2009-04-21 15:39 EST
It's odd. I worry more about how I portray Gerard's appearance than I do his personality, though it's far easier for me to change his eye or hair color or height in posts and play than it is change the way he'd interact with others. Part of why I'd made him such a blank slate in the times I'd used him before.

As for Gerard's assessment, I don't imagine it'd change much from what he told Locke in the meeting. Locke's got a good grasp on making clothes and personal style, it's just a matter of trusting his instincts and being adventurous. Locke's putting together a show for September for spring. My thought is the internship would last about two years; I believe it started last June, so there's a little more than a year left on it now before the next step.

And if you needed help with an entry on Benson Blvd, I can always throw up the basics on the wiki and then you can flesh it out later? Of course, it might be a while before I get back to the wiki as well...

Locke DVestavio

Bad news (but hey, what news isn't bad lately?). I took my laptop into the shop AGAIN today, and was informed it would probably be at least two weeks before it got fixed. Which means...two weeks where I will be unable to access the live RP rooms and AIM, and will have sporadic access at best to PMs, e-mails, and forum postings directed my way. I also won't be able to write anything while I'm sans computer. If you need to vapor anything, your best bet is to e-mail me about it, although I will also try to check any PMs that get sent to this SN, and forum posts as well.

It sucks, because there's a lot of fun stuff that's about to happen here and over at Rings of Honor, but there's not too much I can do about it now.

I love the new post in Tactile. In particular, the drug-influenced description of the club and the dancing in the third paragraph is just phenomenal. The rhythm of the sentences themselves, as much as the words, helps the reader feel the moment instead of just visualizing the scene. Very nicely done.

Getting ready to move in the next few days (again!). Not entirely sure when, and not entirely sure when I'll have Internet access back up and running at my new digs, but I would imagine it will be at least a week, possibly ten days, before I am completely settled in once again. Brief note to let you all know that the remainder of the Hope SL detailing Locke and Katarina's off-planet travel will be taking place over in the Expressions of Hope folder. I will also be updating the "Hope SL" sticky here in this forum with a listing of the threads comprising the SL in chronological order.

Again, many many thanks to Lucien's player for the RP that resulted in the upcoming portion of the "Making Amends" thread titled "Options" (linked here, for your perusal). I'm hoping to get it all posted up ASAP.

"Imagine" has been a long and extremely enjoyable SL. Many billions of thanks to Locke's player for the countless amount of hours and planning!

I've been remiss in sending my thanks to Kat's player in particular and to everyone in general who I've bounced ideas off of for this SL. The "Imagine" SL was both the culmination and welcomed evolution of an idea that'd been rattling around in my brain for quite some time. Kat-mun's input and ideas shifted it in another direction, and I am pleased as punch with the end result of that SL. So thanks go to her, and to everyone who's read and followed it.

The treasure hunter reference and the blue bandana Locke's companion wears in the "Demonstration" scene just posted in "Making Amends" are deliberate references to the Final Fantasy VI character Locke originally took his name from. I felt like it was a fun way to tie things together. Hopefully you agree. :)

If you're open I actually have an idea about how Locke could be involved in the live RP event I'm trying to plan for Sun. 2/20 to kick off Fashion Week, even if he can't do a show this year...

Certainly! I should be around on the 20th for live play. I'm probably even rustier than I was at live RP last year, but I'd love to have Locke MC like last year or do something else. :)

Life's thrown me one of those massive curveballs that life is wont to do, and I'm going to have to take a hiatus for the indefinite future. the post i'm putting up is far from finished, but I'm putting it up now as a work in progress. I'm hoping I'll be able to gradually add on to it as time permits, and to also throw up a series of log posts that have languished while waiting for this post to go up. Sorry for the delay, and here's hoping my job search ends soon and lets me get back on here!

Better late than never: finally posted a scene that Katarina's player and I played out much earlier this year, and that takes place in the summer of this year in the good ol' RhyDin Standard Calendar. As always, many many thanks to her player, and to you the reader, both for reading and for putting up with my spotty post schedule of late. Hopefully I'll find some time and a good computer to get the rest of the post in progress still hanging in that thread finished up.

In other news, I finally got around to filling in the filler post I put up back in September, in order to keep the folder active. I had just put the beginnings of a scene in there, but I decided afterwards that what I had in mind was going to be very difficult to write. Dialogue with a half-dozen plus people, some of whom would be very angry at each other, is not something I'm good at writing, or that I think would be fun to read. With that in mind, I took the scene in a different direction, one that I think still fits the storyline but was much easier for me to write. Since it's not really going to show up as an update in the thread, I'm posting here, with a link to that post:

The latest post in the "Tactile" thread is also the closing post for that thread. Finally, almost two years after the last post went up in that thread, I figured out a way to wrap it up that I think does a fair job of summarizing everything Locke has been through, both throughout his life and over the past four years or so since that thread started.

Thanks to everyone who played with Locke, thanks to everyone who's read my posts, and extra special thanks to Katarina's player for the inspiration and writing support.

Looking forward to continuing Locke's story!

As a white, cisgender, heterosexual male, writing for Bailey challenges me in ways that go beyond the first-person perspective I've chosen. I've taken a lot of inspiration from a number of articles I've read recently in trying to flesh Bailey out, hopefully without resorting to cliche' or stereotype. I'd like to share a few of them with you all.

"Young, Attractive, and Totally Not Into Having Sex"(Wired Magazine)

Being ?Feminine? Can Be a Double-Edged Sword for Bisexual Men" (Slate)

"Generation LGBTQIA" (New York Times)

wisp #3 is opening! I had a great time putting this one together, and I wanted to send out some thank yous.

First of all, many many thanks to Jewell's player, for being absolutely game for the initial wisp concept in Little Elfhame, for being equally game for having a collection designed around her character's fashion sense, and for lending me a ton of help by providing me ideas for outfits that would work for her. Brainstorming this one was an absolute blast, and it could not have come together as smoothly (or with as much fun!) without her assistance.

I also wanted to thank Lirssa's player for creating the playable I used as an excuse for why a nice two-story townhouse dropped down into the middle of one of the emptiest, worst neighborhoods in Dockside. It fit perfectly with what my goal was for this iteration of wisp, and many thanks for creating that idea and letting so many people run with it.

Besides Jewell (obviously), I drew inspiration for this version of wisp from the many blocks in the city of Detroit that are abandoned or nearly abandoned and have been taken over by weeds and nature. The townhouse-as-store concept is borrowed from a failed Abercrombie & Fitch brand called Ruehl No.925. I remember going in there a few times, loving the layout, but not having nearly enough money to spend on what they were selling. I also may or may not have taken advantage of their faux NYC setting to "borrow" copies of the Village Voice they left around for ambiance.

I'll get pictures posted of the outfits ASAP!

I just wanted to spread some thank yous around to everyone who's been involved in the latest Bailey SL, hinted at in the last couple of posts of the Hidden in Plain Sight thread and in more detail here. Many thanks to Jewell's player for taking this idea and running with it with me, and doing the heavy lifting of editing and posting the scene (and some awesome aftermath action and flashback work to boot!). Many thanks also to Mason's player for taking part in that scene and making sure Jewell didn't punch Bailey into paste :P. Thanks also for the posts in response to Bailey's letter from Eden and Mason.

And thank you all for reading it, of course. :) I am excited for what's coming next, and hope you all are as well!

There are not enough expletives in the world to express how freaking much I LOVE Hidden in Plain Sight!

The most recent post is intense and exciting and probably one of the best, most coherently written fight scenes I have ever read. And I swear, I am not overstating that. I usually give up following the action halfway through a fight scene.

Bailey is a gritty, complicated hero. Your unflinching portrayal of him is totally compelling. And his constant pessimism makes him so real.

I also really appreciate how he very much lives in the world we all play in, bringing in different characters and settings, and drawing on elements from the duels for the story.

So good, I can't wait to see what happens next!

JewellRavenlock

Date: 2016-01-07 17:35 EST

Just an FYI for those of you who are curious and wondering about the new Bailey folder. It's probably pretty obvious (or maybe it is to me), but I play both Bailey and Locke. As you can probably also guess from recent storylines and hints within, Bailey's days of working with Locke are numbered. (sorry if that's a spoiler! :P) What's so great about RP, and what keeps me coming back to it, and what brought me back last year after taking nearly a year and a half off from playing, is the way characters can grow and change and create stories you never imagined when you brought them forth. Bailey has grown beyond my original purpose for creating him, and that fact is reflected in the stories he has participated in and the characters he interacts with. Many thanks to all of you who have played with him since I started out playing him.

I tend to silo off my characters from each other, just as a way of keeping things sane and interesting, so it's been weird playing two characters who (theoretically) interact on a regular basis, work in the same field, and even in the same company. It's not something I really aimed for, so consider Bailey's new folder and the pending Locke/Bailey split (again, sorry for spoilers!) a correction and move in a direction that I prefer. My hope going forward is that by giving Bailey and Locke space to breathe, away from each other, they will grow in new and interesting ways and remain fun to play.

Thanks for indulging me in this super-long OOC post, and hopefully I made sense and got my point across clearly. :)

Just a quick heads-up: my mono decided to flare back up after a decade-plus of dormancy. I am going to do my best to get the little tidbits of things that I have left for Fashion Week posted at some point, but it there's a good chance it'll be after this Saturday when I get around to posting them.

Also, as far as Bailey's Leap Week stuff goes (yeah, I'm posting on that here, sue me), same timeline goes. I was never expecting to get it done before Leap Week actually ended, but given the difficulties I've been having in concentrating the last week or so, the final product will come out much better if I don't rush it.

Late posting this, but I wanted to pay a little tribute to one of the great fashion photographers who passed away recently -- Bill Cunningham. Every once in a while I think about having Locke become a street fashion blogger a la The Sartorialist, but none of those guys would exist without Bill.

So much love for Bill Cunningham!

The documentary about him called Bill Cunningham New York is fantastic. Even if you're not into fashion or design---my brother-in-law was in the room and was slowly charmed by the end of the movie.

For a long while the movie was available on Netflix, but I just checked and sadly it is not available any longer. It is available to stream on Amazon, however, and free for Prime users!

Late sharing this, but I was saddened to hear of the passing of Glenn O'Brien. As one of my favorite GQ columnists (The Style Guy) when I was reading that magazine in print and online to get ideas in the early fashion design days of Locke, he inspired Locke as a character, and entertained me immensely. His obituary is definitely worth a read; I hadn't realized how influential he had been even before his GQ days, particulary as an Andy Warhol associate and first editor of Interview magazine, editor of Madonna's "Sex" book, and editor-at-large for High Times magazine.
