Somewhere in the Southern Glen

"THIS BlOWS ICE CHUNKS!"

A gout of flame shot from her hands as she slammed them forward and sent the explosion of fire into the pile of leaves deliberately gathered for such a purpose.

Using her hands to whip the flame up and backwards she slung it like a whip in the other direction, lashing fiery trajectories at the surrounding area.

The scent of burning twigs and foliage drew a hint of calm steadiness to the Azer kin's frustrations and she reveled in the smoke-filled heat that surrounded her. Billowing all around her, the crackling flames oozed a thick black smoke that concealed her from prying eyes.

So hot was the temperature of the heat that she compelled that the piles were quickly disintegrated and the fires licked eagerly toward the edges of her displays, seeking the forested line that lie not far from her casting zone.

For one wild moment she considered releasing her grip upon the flames and allowing their raging hunger to slash a blazing trail across the forested region of the Southern Glen that she practiced in.

A sigh accompanied the deadening grip of her magic as she deliberately sucked all the air from the region around them. Sullenly the fires dissipated and as they sunk downward, disappearing into pulsating and pouting embers she rolled her head back and stared beseechingly up at the sky.

She concentrated. Honed her talents, desperately sought that inner control of flames and sought to twist it, alter it in such an alien way that her breath came in little hiccups. Concentration pulled the lines of her face taut as she attempted to force 'muscles' into doing something they weren't designed to do.

"Aqua-infinium-dismorphidious!"

As the first drops of rain began to slide free from the sky she widened her eyes in exultation that quickly turned to fearful denial as their hue warned of her mistake.

The hiss of flames hitting the tree top canopy on the edges of her training ground warned her that her fear was justified. She had not summoned water, but only more of her elemental natural state.

Panicked, she twisted her horrified gaze from the sky to stare out over a forested area that she was beginning to scorch and crisp as the rain of fire picked up pace, "Oh no! No no no!"

"Oh please please please!" Frantic she whipped her panicked gaze from the hissing singe of the trees to the fall of fire above.

This was all Albion's fault! He'd convinced her to concentrate on energy manipulation as a sign that she was ready to advance in her studies of Elemental magic.

The roar of the flames gathered around her, crackling back to full life as she instinctively drew them together to form a portal for herself back to the school.. Away from her failure.

A squawk from above drew her ebon gaze upward and she watched in horror as flaming birds began to fall from the sky. All around her the forest was coming to life as animals sought to flee from the rain of destruction that was even now threatening their homes.

"Oh no no nonono!" A glance back at her escape route almost convinced her to make a run for it. Quinnon could be found. Or Albion. Or Blizzard. Or even Enzir. Someone who could clean up her mess once again.

A step in the direction put her in the oncoming path of a traumatized deer. Trying to flee the flames that were suddenly all around it, the young buck slammed into the small Azer-kin and sent her spinning around. Rearing up it raked its hooves in the smoke-filled air, its sides heaving as it sought to find a breath in the clogged atmosphere. Xera cried out as she rolled from beneath the faltering legs of the frightened animal and managed to get to her knees even as it fell beside her. Large, liquid brown eyes rolled in frightful fear as its pelt smoldered and its lungs gave out beneath the strain of breathing.

"NoOoooO!" She wailed. Tears spilled unheeded as she stumbled toward the creature.

A hoof lashed out and clipped her shoulder, sharp bone slicing open her clothes and flesh as easily as a blade.

She couldn't run. She couldn't leave this forest and its creatures to die in an conflagration of her own making.

With a surge of magic born of desperation she summoned the energy around her and continued to pull at it even as she felt the seams of her being threaten to split. Again came that alien sensation of something inside her being forced to operate in a way it barely comprehended.

Picturing the healing wash of water she threw back her head and screamed, "Aqua-infinium-dismorphidious!"

As the arcanic might of her will exploded out from her in a rush she grew faint, dimness threatened to cloud her gaze, and she couldn't remember if she'd started on her knees or if she'd fallen to them. None of it mattered though, not as the hiss and steam of the fires gave her the first hint that she'd succeeded. As the deluge of water spilled from the sky, she trembled beneath its icy benediction. The inner spark of the Azer-kin threatening to wink out even as the flames around her did.

When the darkness came she welcomed it.
