The Vaden felt it first. A raucous chitter exploding through the hallways and sending the great minotaur, Sartha, into a growling frenzy that chased them away. Fearful of the magic they sensed and its warping waves of dissonance they moved as one furry carpet to race for the doorway of their Master. Barud Das was eternally off limits to them; yet, they gathered before the balcony that seemed to go nowhere, an uneasy mass of frightened children.
All the clocks in the Institute spun their hands in a dizzying circle before landing on 11:11 and in another part of the school a giant clock face pulled inward to admit the shifting form of the Mistress of Shades and Shards. Glimpses of her pale skin came and went with the twining coils of the shadows that lovingly embraced her; and, her movements skittered across the consciousness of those with the misfortune to encounter her implacable perfection.
Students stared in startled wonderment at the rarity of the Deaconess appearing amongst their midst. The image of her progress lingered on the scorched retinas of those foolish enough to stare, a black smudge that refused to budge, a hint of a shadow that marred their vision for the remainder of their waking. Her passage was a strange tempo that refused to make logical sense. In the blink of an eye she could appear to be a few steps ahead of where she would be only moments later.
The Vaden shied away from her like a sheet of fur rippling to the side, parting down the middle to avoid impeding her access to the balcony of Barud Das. If there were any chance of hesitation as she stepped off the seemingly broken rampart it was lost through the shifting after image of her supernatural movements.
An hour passed.
She re-emerged and left word with the Headmistress Natolii to assemble the students and impart their combined findings:
?Students of the Institute of Arcane Principle,
Please be aware that a magical anomaly occurred on this day at approximately daybreak, the resulting impact has been an augmentation of physiological maturity. The wards upon the school were successful in keeping the wave of magical phenomenon from affecting any of our students upon campus. Until such time as we are able to determine the cause, backlash, and long term effects the wards have been enchanted to allow no departure. The Mastema is aware that this may cause some difficulties for some of our commuters and has asked that you direct your concerns to the Headmistress should a conference need to be arranged regarding special consideration.
