The Marduk designated HX-909-A, also known as Hex, has given itself a massive upgrade. Hex has chosen to employ an experimental technology which will allow it to extract it's Core unit from it's current Frame, and swap into a new Frame at any time. The process takes roughly one minute to extract, transfer, and install the Core module.
Before we get to the actual Frames, here is a listing of any exotic or unique technology from the Shattered Prism universe incorporated into Hex's designs.
************************************************** **************************************************
General Topics
Marduk: The alien species Hex is a representative of. The Marduk Core, or simply Marduk for short, are a race of sapient machines. All Marduk units are comprised of two components: The Core and the Frame.
Core: This is the central 'brain' of a Marduk unit. Comprised of pico-scale computing technology, the crystalline Core is nearly indestructable. Nothing short of contact with a sun or black hole can destroy an exposed Core. However, the Core *can* be removed from a damaged Frame, rendering the Marduk into a state similar to a coma.
Frame: This is the 'body' of a Marduk. Typically constructed of woven nanotubes and ceramal, most Marduk Frames are designed to mimic another form of life. As such, a biological approach to mechanical engineering is often used, forgoing pistons, gears, and wires in favor of bones, muscles, and nerve fibers, all constructed from synthetic materials.
Materials
Biometal: Biometal is an unusual form of microbial life. Instead of organic compounds, biometal cells are comprised of varying metallic compounds, relying on photovoltaic energy, ingesting new metals, and excreting alloys. Biometal is used by Marduk as a form of blood, carried along with nanogel to serve as repair and maintanence fluid throughout the Frame.
Nanogel: Nanogel is a semi-liquid suspension used for nanotech applications. The gel itself simply provides the specific environments to allow nanomachines to operate, as well as providing a suspension base for any raw materials the nanites require. In a Marduk, nanogel is combined with biometal to provide a basic form of repair and maintanence. While extensive damage cannot be repaired with nanogel alone, tiny fractures and stress can be dealt with.
Myomer Fiber: Since most Marduk do not use obviously mechanical designs, a biological mimicry of muscles are required. Myomer fibers fill this role. A myomer is a synthetic wire or fiber which can contract rapidly when an electric current is passed through it. By bundling thousands of these fibers together, in much the way organic life uses bundles of muscle tissues, movement is achieved. The composition of the myomers determines both the speed and strength of the artificial muscles, with Marduk designs capable of ten times the speed of organic muscles, and nearly twenty times the strength.
Nano-Web: An application of nanotechnology, these are simply monofiliments treated to act in a similar manner to spider silk. The resultant strands are as thin as cotton fiber, but can support up to ten tons of weight. Bundling multiple strands together provides a line which can support extreme weights.
Ceramal: Ceramal is a cermaic compound impregnated with crystalline tungsten. The resulting material is ten times as durable as carbon-steel and titanium combined, and can be further strengthened by extreme heat compression. Such case-hardened ceramal is highly sought out in armor, with a durability thirty times that of a similar thickness of most titanium alloys.
Chainglass: A glass formed of silicon chain molecules. Depending on heat treatments and various doping techniques, this glass has a range of properties covering just about every material that has preceded it. Chainglass blades can be as hard as diamond and maintain an edge sharper than that of freshly sheared flint, whilst having a tensile strength somewhere above that of chrome steel. Chainglass also lacks the brittleness of its namesake. Marduk commonly use chainglass to form mono-blades and optics.
Elorium: Elorium is an element native to the Shattered Prism universe, the substance in it's natural form resembles quartz crystals. In actuality, Elorium is the physical manifestation of higher dimensional mathmatic equations developed by an ancient and now extinct species. Elorium is capable of creating and altering gravitic fields, as well as distorting normal spacetime to allow access to higher dimensions.
Power Systems
Micro-Fusion: A form of cold fusion power. By controlling the motion of individual deuterium atoms, fusion reactions can be achieved on a small scale, without the heat of a plasma state. Power output is much lower than 'hot fusion' reactors, but sufficient for many portable applications.
Quantum Refractor: A form of power storage based on Elorium research. The Refractor is a shielded crystal whos lattices extend into higher dimensions. When a laser is fired into the crystal, the beam reflects endlessly until released from a polarized entry/exit aperature. Refractors are able to store a nearly limitless amount of energy for long periods of time, with less than .01% energy decay over a period of ten years.
Defenses
Grav-Shield: A grav-shield is an extension of gravitic technology. Wrapping an object with an inverted gravitic field, objects attempting to strike the target will be repelled. While most effective against physical projectiles, stronger fields are capable of diverting the path of most energy emissions as well.
Force Shield: A field of high-energy particles is reflected between multiple emitters, creating a 'wall' of light which serves to absorb kinetic impact and diffuse directed energy. Each time the shield is struck, power is consumed as the field counters the incoming forces. Shields of this type are extremely difficult to penetrate, so long as power is maintained.
Thaumic Barrier: A device which operates on the Thaumic theory of magic. In said theory, magic is simply the act of harnessing energy born of quantum level interactions to bring desired events into reality. A Thaumic Barrier works by creating a field where this energy cannot maintain enough cohesion to affect local reality. Magic simply 'flows' around the barrier like water around a hill. Within the field's effect, only extremely powerful mages can cast magic, and only very powerful spells will continue to function. Note that while the barrier is active magic cannot function, however once the barrier is removed any spells already in place resume normal function.
Thermoptics: A stealth device that operates by bending light around the wearer using gravitic fields, rendering the user invisible. In addition to normal light, heat is also suppressed, rendering thermal detection nearly impossible. While standing still, the subject is virtually undetectable save for touch, scent, and gravitic detectors. While in motion however, there is a distinctive 'blurring' of the air as the subject passes through.
Weapons
Mono-blade: A mono-blade is simply any kind of blade whose edge is monomolecular, or only one molecule thick. These blades are often made of chainglass, as that substance carries an edge extremely well. Mono-blades are capable of cutting through most forms of matter almost effortlessly.
Vibro-blade: Any type of bladed weapon where a sonic generator vibrates the blade several thousand times per second, creating a 'sawing' motion of the edge. Vibro-fields can enhance a blade's cutting and penetrative ability between five to fifty times, depending on the blade.
Plasma-blade: Any type of bladed weapon where a power system creates a field of intense plasma around the blade itself. The ultra-hot plasma can melt through many forms of matter, enabling the blade to cut through objects the blade itself would be deflected by. In terms of intensity, a plasma blade is nearly equivalent to a lightsaber, and can even deflect those fearsome weapons.
Mono-whip: The common name for a monofiliment whip. These weapons are typically made from thin strands of chain-glass measuring only one molecule wide. A very deadly weapon requiring great skill to use, as a wrong movement can sever the wielder's limbs just as easily as the target. Due to handling issues, almost all mono-whips are treated with a coating of magnetic dust. Any object with an equal magnetic field will deflect the whip, while opposing fields will attract the whip.
Shock-Rod: A weapon primarily used for non-lethal purposes, to subdue without killing. Any shape of contact can be used, but batons, spikes, and circular pads are most common. Two contacts are required to complete the circuit, however some models incorporate both contacts into a single weapon. Upon contact, as little as 100, and as many as 40,000 volts of electricity are passed through the target.
Impacter: An Impacter is an offshoot of gravitic technology, and serves as a replacement for conventional projectile weapons. The Impacter uses focused gravity pulses projected from the end of the barrel, a column of altered gravity in the direction of fire which pulses for half a second. The intensity of the pulse can vary from weapon to weapon, but the typical default is 50Gs Terran. After impact with a solid mass, the pulse looses cohesion rapidly, preventing penetration past the first target hit.
Plasma Cannon: The plasma cannon was developed to replace proectile weapons as power sources became more compact and efficient, and designed to function mainly in an atmosphere environment. The weapon itself fired a pulse of charged particles. Primary effects of the pulse are partial vaporization of matter on contact, with the secondary effect that the air immediately surrounding the pulse is heated to a point of plasma vaporization. Once the beam strikes a solid mass, the energy contained iss released in a violent explosion of heat upwards of 15,000F degrees.
Plasma Flamer: A curious adaptation of plasma technology. Certain compounds and catalysts are mixed together in a suspension fluid. The result is a sticky, gel-like liquid that violently combusts with oxygen. Temperatures produced by this reaction are sufficient to vaporize the surrounding air into a plasma state.
Proton Cannon: An extermely powerful particle weapon. Free protons are charged to an excited state, then accelerated in a coherent, pulsed beam from a projector. Proton cannons are capable of vaporizing most forms of matter on contact, with the overall energy yield measured in the megajoules. The smallest known proton cannons are used as field artillery or tank cannons.
Proton Lance: Unlike normal proton cannons, this weapon fires a continuous beam out to a range of only ten feet. While short ranged, the super-heated plasma created by this beam can cut through most forms of matter like a hot knife through butter.
Micro-Missiles: Micro missiles are small, semi-guided munitions which can be fired very rapidly, almost like bullets. Typically three inches long, with a warhead that is not chemical, but energy. The warheads hold a small packet of superheated plasma gas, suspended in a magnetic containment field. Upon impact with a target, the containment field collapses, and the plasma is released violently. A typical plasma-based micro-missile has a yield equivalent to a half stick of TNT, with a blast radius of only one foot. Micro-missiles usually use a chemical or compressed gas launching system, after launch the magnetic 'bottle' releases a tiny stream of plasma for propulsion, while nano-scale fins provide limited steering. Average range of micro-missiles is 1000 feet, or until the missile hits something.
SRM: Short Range Missiles (SRMs) are intended as anti-mecha, anti-armor weapons for use in close-range engagements and fighter combat. These missiles can be armed with a variety of warheads (K-Hex, HEAP, Cluster, Plasma incindiary). Average range for SRMs is 1 mile, while their onboard tracking systems make the missile extremely agile, able to pursue a target relentlessly until fuel is expended or the target is hit.
MRM: Medium Range Missiles (MRMs) are intended for medium- to long-range engagements between mecha and small ships. These missiles can be armed with a variety of warheads (K-Hex, HEAP, Cluster, Plasma incindiary). Average range for MRMs is 5 miles. While not as agile as SRMs, these missiles will still track a target until hit or fuel is depleted.
LRM: Long Range Missiles (LRMs) are intended for anti-warship operations or for taking out groups of enemy fighters. These missiles can be armed with a variety of warheads (K-Hex, HEAP, Cluster, Plasma incindiary). Average range for LRMs is 20 miles. While not as agile as SRMs, these missiles will still track a target until hit or fuel is depleted.
K-Hex Explosive: A form of high-explosive in wide use in the Shattered Prism universe. K-Hex comes in both plastique and gel forms, with the latter being only slightly less stable. Overall yield is three times as powerful as an equivalent mass of C4 explosive.
HEAP: High-Explosive, Armor-Piercing. An acronym used for a specific type of ammunition warhead. HEAP rounds are designed to penetrate armor using a primary explosive charge, then pass a smaller sub-munition through the breach. This sub-round enters the target, pausing roughly half a second, then detonates a second, more powerful explosive charge. Nanotech assemblers have allowed applications of HEAP technology in munitions as small as handgun rounds, which are quite useful against body armor.
Misc Tech
Nano-Factory: This device is a compact, nanotech-driven factory. So long as a molecular schematic is loaded, and the proper raw materials are present, a nano-fac can construct nearly any object or device required. Marduk often use these to create small autonomous drones for various purposes. The most common drone are recon drones, often taking insectoid shapes, though drones can be armed and used for combat.
Flatspace: Flatspace is the common name for Dimensional Compression technology. Using Elorium gravitic lenses, pockets of space can be created which physically rest in higher mathmatical dimensions. In essence, Flatspace is a technological 'Bag of Holding'. Each Flatspace pocket can only have one entry/exit aperature, and this aperature must be powered at all times. Should power fail, the pocket dimension will suddenly and violently collapse into normal space.
Gravitics: Gravitics is the practical application of Elorium's ability to create and alter gravitic fields. Using Elorium as an energy lens, gravity fields can be created artificially. Size, shape, direction and intensity of the field can be arbitrarily assigned as needed.
Null-Grav: Using Elorium gravitic lenses, it is possible to effectively nullify the mass of an object enclosed in such a field. After this, nearly any other form of propulsion will allow significant efficiency. A multi-ton object can be propelled rapidly using only a tiny thruster.
