Tiberius would return to Catalonia the day before his thirtieth birthday. His uncle would not be there to greet him, and the entire household staff had been replaced. When questioned about his uncle's whereabouts, they had no recollection of him ever having existed.
The next morning he would receive a visitor who would identify himself as Dunkin, a scribe from the Magistrate's office. When questioned about the whereabouts of his missing uncle, Dunkin informed him that he had no living relatives on record, and that the estate had been put in trust by a company from Rhydin until it was to be turned over to him on his thirtieth birthday. This estate, several other properties, and a large fortune in gold were now his.
Later that evening, he was visited by three men. They were all dressed in black uniforms of a style he did not recognize. Each wore a single pin on the breast of his tunic, a sword, piercing a globe. they identified themselves as Count Ulrich von Holstein, Baron Hanz Christian StClaire, and Lord Admiral Hiroshi Nagamura. They were three of the original nine sent by Nicholas I into exile to prepare for this day.
Count Ulrich had been one of Nicholas' military commanders, and he presented Tiberius with an army of 5,000 battle-hardened veterans, many of whom had recently served with him in Araby. He also informed him that he had fifty war engines already waiting for them in Rhydin.
Lord Admiral Nagamura was also known as Pirate King Hiroshi, and presented Tiberius with the legendary Black Fleet; one hundred warships with black sails, that had terrorized the Six Seas for decades.
Lastly, Baron StClaire presented his gift. He had been a spy master for an organization called the Black Hand. He had spent the past decade building a new spy ring in Rhydin, and now he offered it to the young Prince.
It had been three decades since the fall of their beloved Emperor, and all three had grown frail with age. As a final gift, each of them offered their eldest offspring to serve the Prince in their place during the coming campaign.
They stayed until later in the evening, dining with Tiberius, and talking of this past, his family lineage, and his destiny. Six months later, standing on the bow of his flagship, Tiberius Dredd looked up at the stars as his fleet set sail for the shores of Rhydin and his appointment with history.
