Topic: OOC - The Characters Within The 'Verse

As is probably easy to work out from the title of the thread, this is the standard 'who are you, what do you do' place. It's a chance for everyone else to get a good look at your characters and a bit of their backstory, and maybe start working out how we're all going to fit together.

Any detailed information in this thread should be considered OOC, unless your characters are close enough that they would have shared this between themselves. Standard stuff like height, sex, profession ... those are fairly obviously IC and shouldn't cause too many problems. If in doubt, get in contact with the 'mun of the character you wish to interact with.

Right, lecture over. I suppose I should get started.

Mz. Baker

Date: 2009-06-27 06:52 EST
Name: Cecelia A. Baker

Sex/Species: Female/Human

Height/Weight: 5'9/144lbs

Marital Status: Single/Never Married/No Children

Profession: Cook-ie (Member aboard the NightHawke)

Impromptu 'Who Are You' response:

"I'm a woman whose been raised in a family of 8 and a countless slue of cousins. Being your grandmother's only little helper kind of determines just how you're gonna' turn out when you're older. I can sling a dish with the best names out there, and keep sneaky mits out of the food before the meal is done... Yeah, that's right. Wooden spoons are great for more than cooking!" The botticelli babe's face crinkled with a delighted bit of laughter on this note before turning thoughtful, taking on that 'tapping finger-to-chin' pose.

"I suppose I couldn't right give you a list of my credentials as a cook without stirring up the scorn of an old lech of a boss. So maybe I could whip up your favorite dish for you to prove I'm up to par with the attitude I sling?" Dark brows would give a quirk to match the proud curl of her lips, though beneath that whip crack of an attitude was a softer smile, friendly and less formidable.

Bits and Baubles:

As said, and proudly, Cecelia's from a big family and that's where the bulk of her skills, both personal and professional, came from. Her grandmother wasn't only the charge of such a large family's appetites, but a life-long proprietor of her own delicious establishment. Given funds and other personal, family strife that Cece won't openly speak of unless prompted, the restaurant fell through not a day after her grandmother's death, which, coincidentally, was also the same day she left home. This was all about oh, 8 years ago?

Aside from her family experience, Cece also worked as a sous chef for a fairly prestigious and eclectic little bit of culinary swank for 5 years. Creative differences and wandering hands ended that career, and since then she's bounced around picking up bartending or short-order cook jobs. Such jobs made the cook-ie Handy with a pistol as easily as she is her skillets, Ms. Baker isn't without her own degree of self preservation when it comes down to a fight. Bustin' up brawls and kicking knives out of the hands of over-drunk patrons is about as tough as busting up a fight between 6 over-grown teenage boy cousins; don't let anyone tell you different!

Cece also enjoys classical music, bold colors and patterns, odd jewelry that reflects her love of cooking(she has a necklace of a little handmade, wire whisk pendant), and cards. Oh yes, the cook loves a good game, any game, or cards.

Pol Finch

Date: 2009-06-27 07:44 EST
Name: Anapola Ilar Finch

Nickname (s): Pol

Gender: Female

Age: 27

Date of birth: 15th November 2482

Occupation: Captain of the Nighthawke

Marital Status: Engaged to one Elijah Brent Noble

Relatives: Father, Icarus Finch, deceased.
Mother, Lorna Shemaine Hodgeson, whore standard rank.
Uncle on her mother's side, Dale Finch, smuggler, serving time on an Alliance prison ship.
Uncle on her father's side, Grogan Finch, freighter captain.

Homeworld: Dyton Colony

Faction: Neither - though has stronger leanings Independents-wards.

Appearance:
http://katiemeluapictures.com/images/Katie_Melua_Call_off_the_search2.jpg
Note - Pol in a skirt or dress is a rare sight. From day to day, she wears dark brown form-fitting pants, a shirt of a variable colour (but never a bright colour), and a black leather jacket.

Height: 5'2

Skills: Mediocre pilot at best, Pol's skills lie in arranging work for herself and her crew, usually through the use of contacts on the varying planets around the 'verse, including RhyDin. She carries a revolver, one auto-pistol, and two short throwing blades, all of which she is competent to use in any situation that calls for it. She's also vaguely aware of what maintenance needs to be done to keep her ship flying.

Backstory: Born on Dyton Colony to a convict and a whore, Pol's early life mirrors many others in the poorer end of the 'verse. Luckily for her, she was Alliance educated as a child, and with those skills was able to get herself honest work for the majority of her teenage years. With contacts from her deceased father and his 'friends', she soon entered the somewhat shady world of freight, adding smuggling to her repertoire of skills, and it was these jobs that enabled her to raise money enought to buy a ship of her own.

Her first crew did not turn out to be much of a success story, being made up mostly of convicts and wanted fugitives. When the Nighthawke was stopped in the black by an Alliance cruiser, three of her crew were arrested there and then, and the rest jumped ship at the next port, leaving her to fly the black alone.

The Nighthawke was in bad repair when she took the first job for RhyDin, barely making it to a safe landing before rumbling her last and refusing to respond to any of her captain's attempts to get her flying once more.

Which is why, after several months with only a pilot she bought out of prison for company, Pol has decided to recruit a new crew from the various peoples on RhyDin, wanting that familiar skill set and support around her once more.

Aidyn Butler

Date: 2009-06-27 08:12 EST
Name: Aidyn Rebekah Butler

Nickname (s): Aidie, Becks (only use if she's given permission)

Gender: Female

Age: 22

Date of birth: 18th February 2487

Occupation: Medic - nurse, 2nd class (aboard the Nighthawke)

Marital Status: Single

Relatives: Father, Jonas Butler, ice fisherman.
Mother, Ryoko Butler nee Li, nurse 1st class, retired to assist spouse.
Brother (older), Gregori Rance Butler, ice fisherman.

Homeworld: St Albans

Faction: Alliance trained, has no particular leanings either way.

Appearance:
http://www.news.com.au/common/imagedata/0,,5939228,00.jpg

Height: 5'5

Skills: Skills for survival on an ice planet come as standard with Aidyn, as do her Alliance trained medical abilities. As a nurse 2nd class, she can do all but invasive surgical procedures legally, and let's face it, on a Rim planet or in the black, who cares if the person operating is legal? Just so long as they get the job done and no one dies.

She carries one auto-pistol, which she knows how to use, but would really prefer not to. Her big endearing quality is her insistence on giving everyone the benefit of the doubt, regardless of how mean they might seem on the surface, and her apparently inexhaustible cheeriness.

Backstory: St Albans is an ice planet on the border between the Core and the Rim, and it was to a family of ice fishers that Aidyn was born. Her education was basic, centering mainly on survival and how to get through each day, until her mother made the decision to send her to one of the many Alliance training centres scattered throughout the 'verse. Once there, Aidyn learned enough to be able to be of use to the St Albans medi-centre, and returned home to put her newfound skills to good use.

After a few years of this, though, the ever-reaching black above started calling to the cheery nurse, and she soon hitched a ride on a freighter ship, somehow ending up on RhyDin. Here, her skills were not so useful, and it was with profound relief that the redhead found the notice calling for a crew for the Nighthawke.

Chris Hendricks

Date: 2009-06-27 10:10 EST
Name: Christopher Alain Hendricks

Nickname (s): Chris

Gender: Male

Age: 22

Date of birth: 16th of December 2487

Occupation: Newly hired mechanic onboard the NightHawke

Marital Status: Single

Relatives: Father, Alain Montgomery Hendricks, deceased
Mother, Elizabeth Annette Hendricks nee Sanders deceased

Homeworld: Persephone

Faction: Sympathetic towards the Independents

Appearance:
http://foxcraft.files.wordpress.com/2009/01/jared-is-roman.jpg

Height: 6'2"

Skills: The inner workings of just about any piece of machinery hold little mystery for Chris. He has an instinctual grasp of how things go together as well as cause and effect. This extends to people and their relationships just as much as it does with machinery. He seems to understand people's motivations and reactions so well that little ever comes as a surprise to him. While growing up on the street left him quite capable of defending himself, his time at the Southdown Abbey left him unwilling to do so as he is now a declared pacifist.

Backstory: Chris was orphaned at the tender age of eight and spent the rest of his youth stealing and begging in and around the Eavesdown Docks. As the years passed he became a fixture around the landing ports, fascinated by the comings and goings of all the ships and their passengers. As he got older, he would often run errands for those who made their living servicing the docked ships. When he was fifteen, it was one of these ground-side mechanics, Corgan Williams, that took Chris under his wing and taught him about all the inner workings of the massive engines. In three short years, Chris had made a name for himself as an accomplished mechanic in his own right. Then, the sudden, unexpected death of his mentor sent him into hiding. He ended up in the Southdown Abbey where he spent a good two years which would be glossed over in any personal history Chris might tell. He left the abbey and returned to the docks a quieter, humbler man. After a couple more years working on the docks he finally decided to leave Persephone only to end up stranded in Rhy'din where he was hired on to repair the grounded NightHawke.

Brent Noble

Date: 2009-06-27 20:40 EST
Name: Zachariah Elijah Williams Jr (Undisclosed to All)

Alias: Elijah Brent Noble

Gender: Male

Age: 29

Date of Birth: 22nd October 2480

Occupation: Pilot of the Nighthawke

Martial Status: Single (As far as anyone else knows)

Relatives: Father; Zachariah Elijah Williams Sr, deceased. Mother; Sidonie Murray Williams (Parker), deceased. Sister; Elizabeth Sidonie Williams, whereabouts unknown.

Homeworld: Beylix

Faction: Independents

Appearance:
http://www.victorwebster.com/images/gallery_13_lg.jpg
Height: 6'5"

Skills: The most prominent would have to be piloting. This man, you put him the pilot's chair of a ship, he'll do things that'll make your jaw drop, you stomach flip, and your head turn. Unfortunately for Brent, his skills in piloting are the only truly spectacular set of skills he has. Though, that's not to say that he's without others. A man with a shady history and traveling from world to world, he's bound to have a few handy tricks or two up his sleeve. He's a fairly good shot, not the greatest in the 'verse, but sure as hell not the worst.

Backstory: Born in a farming society on Beylix, Brent came to realize that his life was going nowhere fast. So he fixed that. He ran away from home during his teenage years, and stowed away on a freighter that had stopped by to drop off a shipment. When they landed in Whitefall, he hopped off and ran, looking for work. It didn't take long for a young guy like him to get picked up by a gang of crooks with their own shuttle, and that's when the fun began.

After a big heist gone wrong due to a traitorous captain, Brent was imprisoned for a few years, until he finally, out of means that he never truly explains, broke out and set off on the run again. He started going by Elijah Brent Noble, shortly afterwords, to keep the Alliance off his trail, to stay hidden. He's had pretty decent luck so far.

He joined yet a second crew, and once again ended up with a traitorous crew mate, this one happened to be the standing pilot, and once more, Brent found himself in prison. For some odd reason, they didn't make the connection that he was also Zachariah. Better for him in the end.

That's when Pol found him, bought him out of prison, and he joined the Nighthawke, so far, its gone fairly well, and he's praying it'll stay that way.

Sui Cobb

Date: 2009-06-28 06:12 EST
Name: Sui Cobb

Alias: Cobb

Gender: Male

Age: 31

Date of Birth: 4th July 2478

Occupation: Hired muscle/mercenary - NightHawke

Martial Status: Single

Relatives: Father: Some bastard who thought it'd be funny to name his boys with girl's names. Whereabouts unknown.
Mother: Siouxie Cobb - Retired Companion

Homeworld: Whitefall

Faction: Whoever is paying the most. Right now, Indy.

Appearance:
http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l102/rosieodel/14573014284a3789a292e0c.jpg

Height: 6'7"

Skills: Excellent sharp shooter. If it has a bullet in it, he can fire it. Deadly accurate with his beloved Sera at his side. Can strip a weapon down to it's bare bones and reassemble it in seconds flat. Doesn't speak much, so he took a job where he didn't have to. And he gets to use and add weapons to his collection. Always a bonus.

Backstory: Born and raised on Whitefall in a town that has had so many names that he couldn't recall which one it was being referred to now. Growing up, they either called it Dust Farm or Dusty Bowl. Needless to say, not a lot around but dust, dirt and rocks. His father ran off when he was two, and he never knew the man. Rumor had it that his father had joined with the Independents and lost his life in Serenity Valley. All Sui knew was that he hated the man for the name bestowed upon him.

He learned to use his fists at an early age. Being called Susie and little girl always got his temper riled up. Even as an adult, it still bothers him. He was raised to show respect and to give respect, first and foremost. But when that respect's not given in return, Sui turns into a very surly, angry man.

His brother left home ten years before Sui was old enough to truly understand why. He had looked up to Jayne and was terribly hurt by his brother's departure. That left him alone to help care for his aging mother. She was still beautiful, but a vicious client had ended her career as a Companion long before Sui was born.

Not quite sure how he came to be in Rhy'din. One night, he passed out drunk in a public park. The next morning, he wakes up in the middle of the Southern Glen. He wondered around the city for days before coming upon a poster, requesting help on a ship called the NightHawke. He met with the captain and it's pilot and the rest, as they say, will be history.

Ishido

Date: 2009-06-28 06:37 EST
Name: Wren Ishido

Gender: Female

Age: 28

Date of birth: 7th August 2481

Occupation: Soldier - fugitive

Marital Status: Single

Relatives: Father, Kenton Ishido, whereabouts unknown.
Mother, Liza Ishido nee Gruber, whereabouts unknown.

Homeworld: Bernadette

Faction: Formerly Alliance - now firmly Independents.

Appearance:
http://www.ayaueto.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/02/aya-ueto-pictures1.jpg

Height: 5'4

Skills: Competent in the use of all combat weapons, ranged and melee, as well as hand to hand combat. Also a mediocre pilot, and can perform basic field surgery if necessary.

Backstory: Born on the stopover world of Bernadette, Wren's life looked to be a standard for the poor the 'verse over, until the Alliance called her up for officer training in their Army corps. If she had not gone, her father would have been put on the frontlines of whichever battle was being fought at that time as cannon fodder.

The Alliance trained Wren in combat of all kinds, as well as basic literacy and numeracy skills. It was also during the course of her training that Wren met Garrett Campbell, whose specialised training of her changed the course of her life.

After graduating the Academy, Wren was attached to the Operative corps, and advanced quickly to the rank of Corporal, after which she was put to tracking the disappearance of one little girl from one of the top secret government Academies. During the pursuit of River Tam and her brother, Wren began to question the wisdom of the Alliance's insistence on hunting down one teenager. Looking into it further, she began to uncover information to do with the questionable training and experimenting performed on the attendees of the Academy from which the Tam girl had escaped.

After a promotion to Sergeant, and being a part of the Miranda incident, Wren was set to track River Tam and the crew of Serenity. However, she chose not to, and made a bid for freedom, choosing the life of a fugitive over that of the Alliance's obedient dog. She was tried and convicted of treason in absentia, and sentenced to death, spending the next ten months or so on the run from a hunter chosen specially for the task of tracking her down - Garrett Campbell.

When he found her, the resultant explosion threw them both to RhyDin, where they have been undercover ever since, with only one Alliance encoounter to liven their stay. What happens now? I dunno, ask me again when we've played it out a bit.

Rett Campbell

Date: 2009-06-28 08:59 EST
Name: Garrett "Rett" Cambell

Aliases: Ironballs

Gender: Male

Age: 35

Date of birth: 25th March 2475

Occupation: Soldier - fugitive

Marital Status: Single

Relatives: Father, Coleman Campbell - deceased
Mother, Merinda Campbellnee Smithson - deceased

Homeworld: Greenleaf

Faction: Formerly Alliance - now he doesn't know. War's over.

Appearance:
http://i94.photobucket.com/albums/l102/rosieodel/10344929664a2156e08704a.jpg

Height: 5' 9"

Skills: Reader. Went through the experiments and training that River Tam went through, only first. He was a success, in the eyes of the Alliance, a true poster child for the boys in blue. He is the reason they extended the testing that ended the lives and shattered the minds of so many of the Alliance youth. Career military man. Giving orders, training cadets, hand to hand combat, weapons specialist, small arms sniper, long arms sniper, boot polisher, extraordinaire.

Backstory: According to his birth certificate, he was born on Londinium. But he didn't stay there for long. With both parents being firmly in their careers in the Alliance Army Corps, Rett was bounced from one base to the next. He grew up with a proud tradition of a family full of military men that dated back to Ancient Earth. Though, his father was sorely disappointed that he only grew to be 5' 9". Still, it was tall enough so he could enlist in the officer's corps.

Rett was 22 and in his second year at the Academy when strange things began to happen to him. First, both of his parents were killed in action during some battle in a far off place. Then he started hearing voices, voices of people that were standing right there, but not speaking a word of it. Sure, as a child, he thought he had heard things that his parents were thinking, but was too young to understand, or by the time he became a teenager, pretended to simply not hear. But now, the voices were becoming stronger, louder.

When he went for his physical, the doctors made a note in his file. A nod to a security guard and then he was drugged. When he woke up, he was strapped into a chair with a halo around his head. It held a large syringe in place, bolted into his forehead, the needle deep within his brain. What took years of physical training on a normal cadet took minutes with the probing, thoughts and memories placed within his head. Simply put, he became a trained weapon in a matter of hours. Only the top brass had the code that would set him off and bring him back down.

Once the experiments were completed, training loaded into his head, they brought Rett into the Academy as an instructor. He lead four classes and was on his final one when he met his chosen one. Whether it be fate, luck, whatever, he did not choose his chosen one. Some higher power in the 'verse told him that Wren Ishido was it. Though she was a cadet under his command, he waited an entire year before he let her in on the little secret. Of course, he had fun toying with her in that time. Speaking to her in her mind, causing her to get into little bits of trouble here and there.

Once they parted ways, after Wren's graduation, Rett was given his own command. But that didn't last long at all. He was ordered on a mission to find Wren and bring her back. Rett fought against the orders, but was finally convinced in a very unconventional manner. They nearly eviscerated him.

He found her, blew up her ship and they both ended up in Rhydin. Where they'll go from here, beyond even my imagination... for now.
