Lord Brutin

Brutin had his eyes closed as he sat back in his chair, the shuttle was making it's final descent into the compound. They were finally home. Rishi stirred next to him, she had woken up an hour ago and sat there dejectedly without saying a word. Finally he opened his eyes and looked at her and noticed she had been watching him. "You're angry with me." She said in an almost girlie voice which surprised him.

"Why would I be?" He asked her and she jerked slightly in surprise.

"I left and went home anyway, you told me not to go and I did." She said and he nodded and then closed his eyes, putting his head back.

"You needed the containers." He replied and she looked down at the bag at her waist considering that for a moment.

"What happens now?" Rishi finally asked and Brutin smiled. The shuttle jarred to a stop as it touched down and then ramp dropped. He opened his eyes and looked out at the very early morning darkness. Rishi rose with him as they walked down the ramp and into the main building.

"Now you finish what you started. You have your container, destroy or absorb this Chaotic creature so that Ammy is safe. Just remember that the more energy you absorb, the more training you will have to do." He said and she fell in line with him as he went to his office, the guards at the door saluted him but he ignored them as he passed by.

"So there is no punishment? I disobeyed your orders and went home anyway." She asked, pushing but needing to know the answer. He smiled at that. Even Sith Lords could sometimes just be girls.

"You have been punished, you almost died. I saved your life and you owe me big time. Perhaps I will have you dance nude for me. Nadine will teach you the basics." He teased her as Rishi's mouth fell open. He chuckled as he set his blaster down on the desk and looked down at the sticky note in the middle of the desk.

Teach Nadine how to drive

Rishi stood there stone still watching him as he looked at his chair. Another post it note awaited him. "Do not sit. Very funny." He commented and then sat down against the note without taking it down. "Rishi, you have great potential but I learned a long time ago when I first got here that the rules that I had lived by my entire life no longer applied in this place. I had to redefine who I was and what I would become. Now you are going to have to do the same. That is a lot of soul searching. But you have only one question to ask yourself to know the answer, do you feel like you belong?"

He left her standing there as he opened his drawer to put the blaster away and froze. Every single item in the drawer was covered in a sticky note with an explanation on it. He opened other drawers and found the same, the last was one of his gold plated fountain pens with the top savaged by teeth. The note read 'probably out of ink, but tasty'.

"Nadine." he commented.

"How do you know?"

"The notes are written in English, the only language Nadine knows how to read and write." He said and closed the drawer. "It would seem someone played while I was away." He said and then stood up. "Go to your quarters and get some sleep. I want this Chaotic dealt with first, my people are in danger." He said and she bowed and then left.

He stood up and walked over to the window and looked out, leaning against the window sill to support his weight. He glanced out over the garden and saw Alae standing near her little patch, her head down in thought while her hand lightly stroked her belly. In her hand she held a cup of something hot and she sipped it from time to time but never looked up from her own inner struggles.

He watched her for a time, she was closest to his own temperament and he knew how deep that well went, he had no doubts she would figure everything out, like him it was the path that she took that had the most meaning.

He turned and left the office, he was tired, he had remained calm and steady as always but these women would eventually be the death of him, he knew it. Ammy lay somewhere recovering from an injury, her past life and connection to a deity threatening her life and her new love. She had a place, a home for the first time and she was no longer an experiment. She mattered. But could she divide herself from her past without destroying her future?

He got to his room and shrugged off his coat, laying it aside as he prepared himself for bed. He walked over to his bed and looked down, Nadine was curled up on her side sleeping peacefully. She was wearing one of his silk shirts and he wondered what else she had gotten into while he was gone. He leaned down and kissed the side of her head and he noticed the dried tear tracks, she had been crying.

He was often considered the purveyor of pain, bringing others suffering and hardships just to get his way but he found one other that so totally dominated the field he had no choice but to bow his head, for he had suffered the same fate as the others under that even hand.

The morning stroll took her past a bird taking a sand bath. However, her thoughts at the moment were quite jumbled and running in dizzying directions. So she moved past it without so much as a glance.

She had barely been able to sleep the entire night. She had managed to lay still, though, and that let Gun sleep without questioning her on her thoughts.

She had already come to the garden for her predawn vigil. It had not been enough to actually settle her thoughts. So here she was on a second stroll after breakfast. Her hand trailed over her belly as she made her way through the garden this time.

The previous evening she had reminded Brutin, in leaving his office, of her previous conversation with him concerning a similar matter, ?You can use that 2 by 4 any time now.? She had actually meant it. There actually seemed no other choice than to do something that bothered her on various levels. Where did friendship end and ownership begin? Did they have to be exclusive things, or were they able to be complimentary to each other?

She found that this time she didn?t want Brutin?s, Nadine?s, nor Gun?s counsel on this for her decision. Deep inside she knew this had to be her own answer and her own way. As much as she respected each one, their opinions would only confuse hers. So here she remained in the garden until she came to her own answers.

She had found one boulder in the corner of the garden and scrambled to climb up on it and sit down. Her thoughts went to conversations with Brutin and Nadine. As she sat there with her knees drawn up close and hugged to her, she realized that both had confirmed the same things about Nadine for her.

The last time she had not paid attention to her own instincts, Nadine had been left crying her fears out but not really able to find a way out of them. When Nadine had tried to bargain for her to remain, Alae had realized the extent of her mistake and made a determined attempted to correct it, instead asking Nadine to be patient. When she saw the hope return to Nadine?s eyes, she was sure that she had found the path Nadine could walk with her.

Now this sat before her and risked to tear down ground she had made with Nadine. One minute less in Brutin?s office and she wouldn?t have this decision to make. One minute on one side of his door, rather than the other, had determined the next page of fate to unfold for her.

Her eyes closed as she sat there with the sun sliding across its path in the sky and she was not really any closer to the answers. The warmth of the sun on her skin and heating up the rock beneath her caused her to grow lazy and she layed her head on her knees. As she sat there, she watched images float through her vision, and a dream forgotten came to clear once more. As she opened her eyes, she knew her answer.

Climbing down from the boulder, she headed inside.

It had been a fairly eventful past few days that all began with a trip back to Earth. However having returned to the Realms, the most important thing that calmed him was the near presence of Alaemnah; it brought rest to him easy from the turmoil abound.

Stirring as Alae's body left their bed, he kept still as not to alert her of the change in his consciousness.

He carefully surveyed her through the window as she took her morning constitutional. The lines of unrest on her eyes, the furrowed brow, the ambient look of being lost in thought... it troubled him. As she sat on that boulder in the garden he couldn't help but feel a bit lost himself with being unable to ease her current plight.

Moving quickly back to the bed as he saw her move off her seat, he pretended to go back to sleep.
