She had just finished the final touches on her cottage on the compound, new bedspread on the bed, fresh curtains, flowing lazily in the breeze, floors mopped and swept, sparkling and shining once again.
It had been eight years since she last stepped foot here. Years before, when she took over the gardens, she decided to live away from the hustle and bustle and noise of the Manor. Brutin had started to build her a grand, mini manor for her to live in. Greek columns spreading upwards into the 3 storied residence, pink marble upon the foyer floor, winding polished black walnut staircase spiraling upwards.

An abomination.

She didn't like it. She knew he meant well, but they didn't have the same tastes. She liked function and simplicity. He liked gaudy and grandour.

Before the work was finished, she had the workmen tear it all down. She paid them for its removal and cleanup, giving them plans for a new cottage. She made it clear, the bill was not to be presented to Brutin, but to herself. That way he couldn't yell at her.

The only thing she kept from his version, was the floor length stained glass rose window he had made for her. Okay, his taste wasn't all awful.

She had it installed on the west side of the A-Frame woodsy cottage, to capture the rays of the setting sun, letting it splash its vibrant colors along the floors and walls. That and the wrap around porch, with it's wooden rocking chairs waiting to be sat in, were the favorite features of her home.

Watching the setting sun, paint the sky in various shades of pink, purple roses and oranges, she reflected back to the time when they sat together under the oak trees, watching the sun set. She told him there were over 1500 colors in a typical sunset, challenging him to count them.. He called one of his girls over to start the countdown. Chuckling at the memory, rocking in her chair, she was eager to start the next's day work at the crack of dawn.

The taking over of her rose infested gardens.
