Isuelt DeRomiano was moody. She was irritable. And she was quiet. Usually this was the sort of behavior that coincided with the departure of Scorpion Wraitharan, when he left for Metro. But not today. Not this week.

This week, and the week before that, and the week before that were absorbing the Scathachian Priestess's thoughts for an entirely different matter than that of her lover. Isuelt had felt the rumble and shake of her world being turned nearly upside down by betrayal. For years, she had viewed Brian Ravenlock as a dear friend and a staunch ally. He had been there when others had fled, he had always been counted on for his quick wit and his great heart. What was further, he had taken up the mantle of loving one of Isuelt's Sisters, Jenai.

Brian's verbal attack on Isuelt had left her stunned and shredded. Never had she felt a sting so deep. Never, that is, until she finally was reunited with Jenai. The red-headed Priestess who had left the Sanctuary to live with Brian, and eventually become the mother to his twin daughters, had entered the Inn while Isuelt and the other Sisters were enjoying a quiet evening. While Isuelt had been apprehensive at first, given Brian's separation from and anger at the Scathachians, Mirage held no such pause when greeting her Sister, Jenai for a hug. Mirage, however, was moved aside as Jenai held her at arm's length and the disquiet and mistrust began.

Isuelt believed that Jenai, who she reasoned was still in a relationship with Ravenlock, would be supporting him. As Brian turned on the Sanctuary, Isuelt expected Jenai to do the same. What she came to find out in those days since then, however, was that appearances can be deceiving and assumptions can be flawed.

She took a deep breath, her chocolate colored gaze was lazily resting on the slow burning fire cradled in the hearth at the Scathachian sanctuary. The stronghold was quiet, mostly because it was just after dawn. The Sisters on late night patrol had come home and were asleep, and those that early risers were not up quite yet. Isuelt was curled up in the chair closest to the fire, her boots and weapons next to her on the floor, her face cradled by a gloveless hand as she rested her head against the soft fabric of the wing chair.

Mirage had come to her the other day, telling Isuelt of her conversation with Jenai. While Isuelt was angry with Mirage for having gone to meet Jenai without telling anyone, she was thankful of the outcome. It was so recent that Vixen and Isuelt had spoken about how exactly they should proceed to figure out what was going on with their prodigal Sister; they had planned on going ahead and having Vixen, and possibly Mirage and Delphinea, talk together with Jenai and get to the bottom of their rift. Now, seemingly, such a meeting would be not to initiate contact, but to further it.

As well, Isuelt had seen the posters of proclamation around the city, claiming that the Clandestine Order of Scathach was present in the city of Rhydin. Isuelt had no idea what the Clandestine Order of Scathach was, but Jenai was behind it. She had signed her name as "High Priestess & Cleric Commander." Isuelt's opinion of the splinter group was mixed. While she was indeed overjoyed that Jenai was not against the Scathachian Sisters, the titles of "High Priestess" and "Commander" were reserved in the political structure of the Temple of Scathach. Isuelt was worried that Jenai was bordering on heresy.

Time would tell, as would a meeting with her Sister. Vixen was right. Isuelt needed to talk with Jenai. To truly, completely discuss what had led them to this point.

She sighed and ran her hand along her hair as she dipped her forehead to rest on her knees. She listened to the crackling of the fire and sighed once more. She missed Jenai more than she had the words for. She had defended Jenai from the likes of Race and Karadesh, and still felt fiercely loyal to the Scathachian she had known for more than a decade. Jenai was her Sister, pure and simple. Nothing would change that. Nothing.
