Dean Winchester

Dean wasn't big on romance. Before Quinn, the only serious romance he'd ever had had only lasted a few weeks. He'd been only twenty-four at the time. A kid really. What the hell did he know about love? He'd foolishly thought that maybe things would be different, but once he'd told her the truth about his life, she'd wanted nothing to do with him. Funny how things had changed when she'd found herself needing someone who knew something about the supernatural, but all that was water under the bridge now. Cassie was just a memory, and Quinn was reality.

Upon his arrival in Rhydin, Dean had fallen hard and fast for Quinn. She was different from every girl he'd ever known. She'd learned the truth about his life, but it didn't seem to matter. She knew no matter how much he might flirt and look at other women, it was her he came home to, it was her that he loved. For the first time in Dean's life, he was happy. At least, as far as his love life was concerned.

He had proposed to Quinn on Valentine's Day, and she'd said yes, but they hadn't set a date. Neither seemed in much of hurry to tie the knot. As far as Dean was concerned, he'd already said his vows in private. He'd already pledged his heart and his undying love. He didn't need a ceremony to prove how much he loved her, and though he wasn't really sure how to romance her, he'd done his best to tell her how he felt. She was the reason he'd stayed in Rhydin. She was the only thing that mattered. What stronger proof was there than that?

Somehow, in all the confusion of the last few weeks, Quinn's birthday had slipped past unnoticed. He knew she wouldn't want a big party or celebration. She'd made such a big deal of his birthday, he wanted to return the favor, but he had no idea what to do. He wasn't good with words or romance. It was hard enough just telling her how he felt about her. He'd nominated her for May Queen not because he wanted to embarrass her or because he thought it would be fun. He'd nominated her because she was the Queen of his heart, and he wanted everyone to know it. Saying the words in public was another matter entirely.

He'd worried she'd be angry at him, but somehow she seemed to understand. The truth was, she was the only woman who'd ever really understood him, it seemed, and while it was difficult for him to show his feelings in public, he hoped she knew how he felt.

It was nearly ten days after her birthday when a delivery man showed up at the coffee shop one evening while she was working to drop off two dozen red roses and a box of chocolates, along with a note that simply read: "DW & QB 4 Ever." Months ago, he'd carved that same message into a tree. It was simple and to the point. It wasn't just about wishing Quinn a happy birthday. In his own way, it was about Dean telling her that he loved her, now and forever.
