?So, how is the research coming along?? Storm pushed aside her empty teacup and leaned back into her chair. The Goddess? Library was empty except for the pair of Airs, and the walls gently echoed her words before returning to silence.

?Yes, it is.? The air around them was crisp with strict business, and Paola presented her notes to Storm, ?We are hoping to bond to the two of us first within about a week from today.?

?Just the two of you first?? She took the offered papers, flipping through the details and neat penmanship. ?I suppose that is wise, in case something happens.?

?Nothing is going to happen, Storm.? While she also leaned back into her chair, her spine was stiff and straight, ?I would not risk another?s life if I was not certain.?

Storm could hear the defense tone from the woman that sat before her, and let the silence grow as she continued to look through the notes. While she was sure Paola was telling the truth, there were several specific details that brought concern, ?We can be certain and still perform poorly.?

?Is there a problem with our plans?? Paola kept her face blank and folded her hands into her lap, ?Naturally, we wish for you to be present during the bonding, to assist and keep harmony once the elements have been exchanged. There is no detail or knowledge of how each Elemental will react, after.?

She slowly shook her head, and slid the notes back over to her, ?No, there is no fault in your research, Paola. I question how your... new relationship will affect the bonding.?

?It will not.? It was said in the same firm, confident tone, ?We are not bonded to each other in any form, and even if we were it will not affect the results because the method is entirely different.? Paola was trying to keep her irritation from showing to Storm. Taking the papers and shifting them on the small table, she returned them back to her bag.

?Have I upset you?? Storm changed the subject as Paola continued to be so formal and tense. She could feel the edges of an oncoming headache, and the nausea from the portal had yet to wear off. Resisting the urge to rub her temple, her gaze to Paola was direct

?You have not upset me, but I believe that you are in no position to tell me of expectations and relationships.? Paola moved to stand, ?If you will excuse me, I will think it is time for me to go.?

?You cannot behave like such and expect me to tolerate such accusations and let you walk away. Sit.? Her voice was firm and she had very expectation that Paola would follow. ?I said nothing of the sort. It is unlike you to project feelings onto another.?

Paola did not huff, but she slowly sat back down into her seat,?Forgive me Storm, but I have no desire to hear about your thoughts on my personal choices.?

?Desire or no, it would be foolish of you to not listen to any advice that I have to offer. I know what it is to be different, to do what is different, and still be happy.? She raised a brow, curious if the younger woman in front of her would stay to listen. When she only received a blank stare, she continued, ?I have nothing to say of your choices. As you have said, they are personal, and they are yours. I can only warn that both of you are Guardians. Every person will watch what moves you make, and how you make them. It may not matter what others think, but it adds pressure that you do not need. Do not let it affect your work.?

?Anything else?? Paola listened with a blank face, any thoughts and reactions carefully placed behind her aloof presence.

?See you soon, Paola.? There was no apology, but she pasted on a smile and left the library without looking back to soothe hurt feelings.
