Every house where love abides
And friendship is a guest,
Is surely home, and home sweet home
For there the heart can rest.
~Henry Van Dyke

Storm felt a strong pull of mixed emotions as they left Yearling Brooke to start on their other activities for the day. She wanted to be angry, to have been put on the spot in such a manner while meeting with Sylvia, but once again, she had not an ounce of desire or energy for it. "Ewan, why did you put me on the spot so?" Her voice was light and truly just of question as she looked over to him.

"So you would speak your mind and hopefully feel like you had not let the moment pass you by. It was not a time to be timid or reserved. She needed opinions as well as facts." He answered in like levity, the smile strong as he looked to her from his survey of the land they were passing through.

She put her hands deep into her pockets, and let the silence grow. She could not argue his point, and found that now there was no tension, or reason for her to be upset over the situation anymore, "Well," she sighed, "thank you, for pushing me, then."

With an impulse he decided not to ignore, he put his good arm around her shoulders and kissed the top of her head. "I love you, Storm. Never doubt that." Then with a grin, he looked to the left side of the road. "We may have to venture into the woods to really investigate the land, though I think south of the path leading to the portal would be best if outside the city is what we desire."

She mostly relaxed within his comfort, and rested her head against his shoulder for the moment, "I love you, too." Her eyes trailed after his, "I do not mind having to venture. You do remember our traveling to Mount Yasou, yes?" There was the small trace of a tease in her smile.

"Most vividly," his laugh brief and low. "If Kellan were not so young, I would even suggest a camping night. I think we will have to keep to a daylight survey. Any spot catching your imagination as yet?

"He is so big already, it will seem like no time at all before he will be old enough for camping, and camping we shall go. I think Avery would like it. Perhaps you can take him one night, if I can manage to not be selfish enough to keep you in our bed." She glanced around, before giving Ewan a sheepish kind of smile, "Beloved, would you believe me if I say it looks all the same?"

He chuckled and nodded. "I would, but I was hoping something more...perhaps arcane would speak to you. I can analyze it for certain physical attributes, but only you can say if there is underlying difficulties with a piece of land, if you understand my meaning."

"I do" She raised a brow, "But if I can detect such difficulties, rest assured if I cannot, then I know someone who could fix the problem with ease. I just want to see the sky. And have stairs." She held up two fingers, "My only requests."

"Just those two? You are certain you do not wish to think on it further and see if a longer list of demands would suit better? Those are easily met." He paused at a particular bend in the road that appealed to him for some inexplicable reason.

She simply frowned, "What else could I need? You know I am but a simple person."

That brought out a wild, broad laugh, and his hand moved from her shoulders to hold his side of the sore ribs. "Simple? Far from."

Her eyes narrowed on his reaction, and what he was doing to his ribs, before she smirked and lifted her chin, "My needs and desires are simple, then."

"Ah, well, that, I will grant you." And he turned to wrap her up in both arms, daring the ache to his wound. He gazed at her and then kissed her warmly, whispering against her lips. "The stars and your stairs you will have. Perhaps two sets of stairs? One for going up and one for going down?" He teased, but held her still.

His warm, and openly happy attitude was incredibly tempting. Still, there was doubt of herself that lingered, and his kiss kept it at bay. Her arms wound around him, but were not tight to cause any discomfort, "One set will ease my heart's desire. Two doubles the chances of missed steps and bruises from the boys." She kissed him again, "Please, do not hurt your arm, Ewan."

"I will not hurt my arm, any more than it has been already." He sighed, but released her in part so they might continue on in the walk back to town.

She couldn't hide the wince that came with the reminder of the condition of his arm. Some of the light in her eyes left, but she tried to not allow her feelings to plummet, "I just do not want you to feel pain, is all. There is no need for it." Instead she reached for his good hand so that they could continue on.

A light frown furrowed his brow and drew his eyebrows together. "We cannot always escape pain. Some pain is good to have, and this is one of the lesser amounts to have in the world." He looked up at the sky and then down the road, lights were glowing above the horizon of the trees as they drew closer to town. "I suppose you are going to leave the selection of land to me as well as the construction? I would rather have your input, lest some morning you scowl upon me and complain there is no suitable ground for a garden or some such." He was, naturally, teasing .

Storm found that arguing over the philosophy of pain just was not worth it. Particularly not after last night. So the smile she had for him was loving, and found that the action lifted her spirits some, "Of course I will give you any input you desire, beloved. You show me land, and I will help." Her smile became slightly secretive.

"Help? I think I should discover the manner of this help now. I have the distinct feeling I have gained a supervisor." He chuckles and his good arm snakes around her body to give a pinch to the other side of her waist, just a light one.

"Oh, you wound me!" The pinch was so light that she hardly noticed, but she squirmed and pressed a hand on the area as if it was in pain.

"A severe wound is it? We should perhaps get you home quickly as possible to see to it. Or stop by one of the clinics or Willow's Den?" He made a pinching motion with his hand, but then let his hand fall to rest upon the belt near one of the daggers. They were getting closer to town.

"No, I think I shall live." She avoided his pinching moments, before she paused as she looked straight from her angled position, "What of here, do you think?" She pointed straight ahead of her, to the natural space from a clearing, "Would no have to change the land much, I should think."

He paused and turned to examine the land she indicated. Walking a bit closer to the edge of the road, he looked at the visibility of the road and beyond, the angles of the land, whether it sloped up or down, and then looked back to her. "It would do well, if it is for sale. Think anything around here is not?" A mild twist to his smile as he turned back to look over the land once more. "And I will need more income as well. Maybe someone's huntsman," though his nose wrinkled up with the thought. A most disagreeable daily duty, though not beyond him.

Wanting to look at it further, she walked off the road, not needing to weave through the trees as there was plenty of room, "I could not imagine it not being for sale. Besides, you are of the persuasive sort." She dashed a smile over her shoulder before walking into the clearing, "You could see if Elessaria needs help with her shop." Her tone was all serious while she grinned teasingly.

It was almost a bark of a laugh that fell off into a low chuckle. "I do think she would like customers to come into her shop, not be frightened away."

"You are not that intimidating, beloved." She studied the land, before bringing up the images she had of his friend's cabin in mind. She started to walk a perimeter of where she imagined a house, creating a thick stream of fog to follow to feet, "What else would you care to do?"

Hands on his hips, he sighed, "No, my best bet is to speak with my cousin when he returns. If his journey has been unsuccessful I know he will have a position open, though it will be a poor way to gain a job at the expense of another man. If he comes back successful, then, well, we will see."

She frowned as she tried to think of jobs that would be suitable for him, and keep her mind at ease. Once finishing the outside, she studied the fog that held in place, before starting to separate halls and rooms to the best of her knowledge, while adding a den area from what she remembered, "Did you want something that is involved with Yransea?"

He watched her construct with the fog a layout and went to follow it as well. "I think it might be best. Whom else would understand my need to just up and disappear for unknown amounts of time?"

"I suppose that is true, yes. Unless you start a business of sorts on your own. Then you could come and go as you please." Once she reconstructed the bottom floor to the best of her knowledge with the addition den, she turned to face him, "What do you think?"

A tilt of his head, he motioned to what he thinks is the kitchen. "A tad larger there?" Then continued upon the topic of his job. "And just what sort of business would I begin that has not been done thrice over here?"

After studying his suggestion, she nodded in agreement, moving the for away with her feet so that she could redo to add more room, "I am unsure, beloved. I am just trying to see what other options you may have, as I am unaware of what kind of openings and opportunities are for you here that are connected to Yransea."

"Not many that I am not already involved in other than my cousins, and his currently I only act as safeguard in the hiring of staff." He looked over the land again and nodded. "Just the right amount of trees if we purchase from there," he pointed to a distance half an acre off, "to there," twice the way deeper away from the road, "and across there," another acre to the opposite of where he began. "Perhaps I could hire on at one of the Holding Houses instead of being unofficial."

It was clear that she was intently listening to him, and followed his motions of purchasing land. She licked her lips, and nodded in agreement. "That might be an excellent idea, beloved." Once she thought she fixed the kitchen area, she stepped away for him to examine, "Also, I wonder if we could hire Earths to construct our home. I can speak with them, and see what pricing they would give."

He opened his mouth to retort, reconsidered it, and had several moments of internal debate with himself. In the end of said debate, the lasting of which might have felt like a quarter of an hour but was much less in fact, he smiled and nodded. "A good idea, though, I hope you do not mind going over yet again how that might impact the security of our home? They would not be able to bypass your wards because of some...affinity with the materials during construction, will they?"

She frowned, not quite understanding what he meant. In the time he took to consider her proposition, she had started lining the rooms with walls and ceilings before they could continue to the second floor, "No, beloved. My shields only allow those that I have given access to. You must remember, the Earths do not exactly which to become involved with any of my shields. I am their opposite."

"I thought perhaps with your talent stretching into all elements that might have lessened. In this case, I am glad it has not. Do you think you could convince them to do so? What price do you think they might set?"

She shook her head slowly, "No, it has not, and though for this case it is the better, but I do wish I was not so terrified of close and dark places." Once finished with the downstairs, she doubled-checked her work, "I think I could, yes. And I am sure it will be rather reasonable, but we can look for other options here as well, and compare." Satisfied, she gave him the opportunity to add any other suggestions for the bottom floor.

He looked over the first floor, walking its arrangement, some small voice in him still in suspicion of arcane abilities, and announced, "Looks quite fine. Is this how you will instruct the workers? I think we may be required to have actually plans drawn up"

She shook her head again, "No, as I know anything I create is probably not structurally sound. This is just for you and me." She pointed up, "Ready to start the next floor?" She raised her brow, curious if he would catch her entire meaning.

He eyed her with suspicion, lifting his eyes upwards. "Just make sure not to drop me," he teased. He was rather sure she had more in those words, but not quite sure he grasped the hidden meaning.

"I am an Air Guardian," Her chin came up slightly in a tease, "I am well trained in not dropping people. Besides, I would rather keep you a float and near me, if you do not object." With that, her eyes took their unusual glow before she built a platform underneath them and slowly moved them up to where the first floor ended. She made sure to stretch the platform to give them both plenty of room to walk around.

His knees instinctively bent to keep his balance. It was not that the structure was not solid or that it in anyway moved other than anticipated. It simple was not earth beneath his feet, and his body prepared for unknown possibilities outside of his direction. Once he felt they were done rising, he started the walk around. "I think it best if I wait until Gaerwyn returns. From there, my options will be more clear." He pointed to the front of the house. "I think the front room should have a windowseat."

"I agree, beloved. We have no need to rush." She walked over to him, completely at ease with walking on what appeared to be nothing. Knowing that there was no way for him to be as comfortable, she wrapped an arm around his waist to take a moment to be close. She followed his point, and smiled, "Certainly." Just for his amusement, she constructed a windowseat just as he instructed, though rather crude and basic in it's design. This is not her area of profession, after all. "Now, how many rooms up here?"

Green eyes slid to her, and he looked over her head to the area. "I think four, plus the necessary room, and," he paused, "a few narrow passages only known to us and those workers you trust. It may be a ridiculous precaution, but we have not always had safe days here."

She thought of reasons for having four bedrooms, and while she did not question, she allowed her assumption to bring a warm smile to her face as she released her gentle hold on him in order to start floor plans again, "I agree, though you will have to help me with those. And I recall from a previous conversation," she had to snicker, "we discussed long halls and thick walls."

A low, brief laugh and a nod. "So we did. Absolutely vital."

She chuckled as well, making sure to try and use the entire length of the bottom floor, to rearrange the bedrooms so that three were closer to one side, and a hall led to what would be their bedroom on the other, with the necessary room in between.

A glance upward, shielding his eyes from the light of day coming down between feathering ends of branches. "A third floor at all?" His stomach grumbled, one hand clapped over it as if to cause it to silence.

She thought about it, before shrugging, "I do not mind if you so desire. A sanctuary from noisy kids, beloved?" She chuckled, and even more so as his stomach rumbled, "I suppose I shall have to feed you rather soon, I take it?"

"I have drawn you to a meeting and forced you to speak your mind, and you think I am going to further your inconveniences and have you cook? I say we stop in one of the many hundreds of dining establishments and eat. As to the third floor, I thought perhaps a place where the kids could be as noisy as they wished. Their sanctuary."

"A playroom." She all but sighed at the idea, "With one of those staircases that you pull down. I think that would be a wonderful idea." She walked over to him to give him a slow, tender kiss. "As you wish." She made sure he was ready, before she started to lower them down.

The kiss most certainly shared, he then kissed the tip of her nose as they descended. "I think it will be a good home." He almost caught on the last word. He thought of other homes, where they were, and where his duty lay, but then smiled to Storm and felt very certain in their plans.

She felt most, if not all, of her previous dark and down feelings disperse. It brought a light to her eyes as she smiled, "Of course it will be. Good and ours." She reached to tug gently on a lock of his hair once they were back on the ground before she started for the trail to town again.
