When dawn broke the two were already gone. Aria didnt want to linger, it would be hard enough venturing out. With their packs stocked, ther weapons sharpened, and all that Karnil could impart about the Dragon Kanu, and the orb known as Ilmen Lisyul .

" It wa snot so long ago that my father was the man that held the orb and dragon in check. He took on that power for the sake of his family. The orb has come and gone msising a few times, but it always was retruned before the dragon could flee. This time it was different, this time we were lucky. If Kanu had wished he could have laid waist to us all, but I think he wants only freedom. Aria knows the tale as well as I do, of how my father came to be the holder of the orb, and how Kegan fallen from grace, and so darkned by power and greed became the new holder of the staff. "

Karnil took a long breath is had been a long time sicne he though of his brother in this way. "Kegan now dead, the dragon gone, the staff broken and the orb gone. It coudl mean anything. But it has power, too much power. Aria knows this, she knows of the witch that enchanted my brother, and how he came to be the keeper of the orb. "

Karnils eyes shifted to Glenn. "In Aelinuial the orb once lay , beside the Agar Tavar Orn . The mid day sun does not hit the ground in the woods known as the meres of Twilight. It was there Kanu and his kin were born... it is there the dragons clan likely still lives. Wild elves live there, but I do not think who ever tookt he orb is heading back to those woods. No, for wih Kanu gone the orb hodls no power over him.. nor his kin."

" Kegan went looking for it. Led by the witch.. it had been to thsoe woods it had been taken. But Opheila , wanted the orb and the power for herself. Kegan felt he had nothing left in is life. So he followed her. I had banished him fromt his clan, for he lied about Aria, and he was not himself, not any longer. Opheila led him through the marshes of the dark forest. I can to know what my brother was thinking, for the palce is death itself. I thank the gods that I do not send you both that way. They found it... of coarse. And Kegan found that our father was the guarding of the orb.. "

Karnil sipped the strong brewed tea he had made for them all. "She knew the way, she had known all along. But she wanted Kegan to find it all out for himself. Kanu was more amssive then, not as old as he became throught he years, even if he is immortal as Dragons can be. But to stare in to hsi eyes, which were orange then, the power of the orb near by..I am sure even the witch felt the power. My father, the father of dragons as he was called then welcomed them in. My father had changed some over the decades her served there... He stood with his back to them, his hair was long and silver his skin as dark as the dragons scales. His clothes were torn and tatered and he carried a long elven blade across his back that shown in the purple light cast by the orb. He must have looked imposing.."

Another long sip. "Kegan must have known him the moment he saw him. My father knew Kegan...It was Rocean who off set Kegan, to Opheila's plans.. the fact that she had convinced him to lead her there. He laid out ehr plan to Kegan.. The story of the orb is old... for it is odler than the land we sit upon. The story was handed down from father to son. I apss it on to you both now.. Aria knows pieces.. It was taken from the earth by the first dragon to walk these areas, when the dragon stepped on the soil its claws sank in so deep that the dragon had to fly, but one day a star fell towards the soils and burried its self in to the earth, the fire that rose would have burned every tree, but back then that dragon breathed ice and stopped the fires and took the star from the soil and hid it where it could do no more damage. The orb is that very fallen star of history..power of the heavens in ones hand.Thw orb had every elemental power in it,it has the power to kill . Opheila had been looking for ti, for a long time, as I am sure many have been."

"So that why it is names thus, night sky nectar." Karnil nodded. "Yes..." He took a deep breath the story was old, but it brought up old ghosts. " Ophelia rushed at my father, intending to kill him, she made the dragon sleep, sos he could attack the hodler oft he orb fully. Kegan had been tricked and now her web of lies was coming undone. The fight was cruel, she spat manya thing out of her mouth...Kegan would have never been the same. " He took another sip of tea. "Rocean had to choose. And in the end.. the staff ended up in Kegans hands.. the power changed him. He beacme the new guardian, my father he tried to return here but the light took him. As it should be. Now Kegan is dead.. and the orb is gone."

"Do we know where it was taken?"

Karnil shook his head. "No, only that it did not go back from where it came..Kanu would not have been able to flya way if it had been returned. Who ever took it, knew of its power.. I am sorry it falls to you both. But Aria knows these lands, and the tribes here, and if it should take you further away, you both are able. Once you find whom eve took the orb, remember do not touch the orb.. or it will seal your fate.. a dragon,a new dragon will find you, and you will be tied tot he orb till the day you die. Destroy it.. It can do no more good ... and will do too much evil."

Aria nodded, and looked to Glenn. He had said he would go with her. And this was the quest they ahd set before them.

Now looking away from the trees she had so long called home they headed out for the sands. For they knew the orb was not here .They would leave Eldamar Ennorath head to the North to Forodren Ardhon. If nothing turned up then they would have to head west, for to the east would be Rhydin. And no fool from Rhydin could have come this far... and lived. So they treked Northward.

Glenn remained quiet as he listened to Karnil's tale about their mission. With a glance to Aria when she spoke, but kept his focus on Karnil. Putting everything that was said to memory, and a sip of the offered drink here and there. Once the tale was told, he nodded to Karnil before moving to head out with Aria.

"Off on another trip. It seems like such a long time ago when we first met, and I had to save your rear end at every turn. Guess I'll have to start doing that again. Keeping you safe from harm, my little softy of a mate." Looking to her as they started off, as he was merely teasing her to ease the tension of their trip.

She looked at him with one of thsoe long side long glances. It had been on a dangerous mission, ina time fo much trouble that they had met.Back then she had many foes, now most of those old foes were dead, or far away from where they would be going.

"I am not soft."She added lightly even though she knew him to be joking. "And then I knew my foes, I knew what I had to face. Now we do not know who or what we might have to face. Forodren Ardhon, is where we will head first. It is a place I have never been, but have heard of. Many of the places here in Eldamar are also there, but with different names. The ocean here we call Nin Hyanda Shae, there they call it Gaearon Ocean. Here the beach Tel Nim Litse, there Silvern Falas. The desert Tel Anfauglir is known as Eru Desert. The river Nisse here and Duin there, the woods in genral known as Glad there, the Ered Lithui streches there too but is know as Lith Aeglir. The clan names for ours are , rusc, cugu, dad dannen, thind elu, Ia Eglan, There is a wood like the one we are in now known as ,Ia Gland or simily as Eryn to the tribes. And fruit like the Eligre, known as Manadh, and the great trees like the Yaara orn, Iaur Galadh. And the red rocks of Uuranor are Naur Gond. " She shrugged, many of the elves in the land of Forodren had been of Eldamar but had left it long ago, yet the names changed only a little, back to being more primitive.

The tribes there may welcome us they may not. My father people are there. In Lith Aeglir, as well as Rocean's. "
She looked at him again. " We will head for the oracle, Who is said to live within the forest. If the orb has passed in to the land the orcale will know it. Karnil couldnt tell me much about this oracle, male or female.. but he said that it will require something of us, a gift or offering. Something not found on the land or from the people. So I brought this." She reached in to he rpocket and pulled out a coin. It was round an inch across and copper in color. " A coin from Rhydin, the elves of these lands do not use coinage as I am sure you know by now, we have gems and jewels well enough, but coins mean little to those who have never ventured from these lands. "

She looked ahead. "We will cross the Nisse at the foot bridge, we will be there in four days if we keep a good pace. It will take at least a week to get to the woods and the oracle. Once we have our answers we will continue from there. " Seems there would be much to face, and a foe unknown to them.

Forodren Ardhon yielded no answers. They walked the lands.Spoke to the tribes, but none knew how to find the oracle. They wandered the woodlands, where Karnil had heard stories of the oracle dwelling. But found nothing, but tribes of elves.

Aria was holding out hope. But the more days that apssed, she more she began to beilve this was a fools journey. If the orb was here in this land the people would have known it. There would have been whispers of it in the trees them selves.

Days turned to weeks. Weeks in to a month of searching. They stayed with the drow of the Eryn, Roceans people who knew of Aria well enough through old letters, and words spoken by travlers. They stayed with her father people, who had been sent word of her coming.

None knew anything about a wise man or woman known as the oracle.

No matter how many times they walked the woods, they found nothing.

"I do not think this oracle is real." Aria looked to Glenn across their fire, they wee back att he camp of the Eryn drow elves. "If he or she were real, we would have found something by now. Someone would know something, but no one, not even the eldest elf or drow weve spoken to knows of anyone known by that title, no matter how we ask in elven or drow,or in the common tongue no one knows. I fear we are at an impass."

She was road weary. Tired of looking ofor answers they could not find. "I do not understand why we are on this mission.Yes the dragon knew me,and spoke to me.Spred my life, but Kanu is gone now, and who ever took the orb, did not know me. How am I linked to this? "

She sighed and sipped on the strong brew of tea the elevs made for them both. "Its been almost two months since we left. I miss Eldamar Ennorath. I miss the faces of my family. "

She did not want to give up hope. " What do you think?" She looked over at Glenn.

He would remain silent as she spoke, looking up here and there when she seemed to pause in thought. Before he moved his hand up to tuck some hair behind his right ear. Seeing she now wished for his opinion on the matter, and the matter of their current quest they were sent on.

"Perhaps no one we have spoken to actually knows about this oracle we are supposed to find. Then again, it could be no one wants us to know where he or she is. For now let's rest and let our minds rest from the long trip. Maybe in the morning we will have fresher minds to think more clearly on." He flashed her a smile from the other side of the fire.

They had trekked far from home. Along grasslands, over hills and cliffs. None knew of any oracle. Some spoke of something else though. Something deeply hidden in the caves of the great mountain. Some spoke of seeing a dragon. They spoke in fear of it. If Kanu had pssed this way he would not ave bothered with people. He would not have flow low. Dragons could go days with out food or water. And when in need of thsoe they could hunt in secret.

Kanu was too massive to be mistake. To dark to hide in day light. The accounts she heard were of a white dragon, a blue one, and one man, spoke of a dragon black as midnight, who he stumbled upon while fishing. The man spoke of it slowly and with no true fear in his voice.

It was to that lake hidden behind a set of mountians that Aria and Glenn had now trekked to. The road had been filled with dangers. They ahd been attacked many times by highwaymen, goblins and orcs. They ahd found shelter in trees,in caves and at inns , and ina few homes of good people.

Aria felt closer to him than she had ever before. There had been dangers, but also moments of complete and utter peace. Momebts in the day or night where she felt whole again. He walked along side her a different man than he had been whent hey first met. He still held an edge of darkness to him, yet his steps seemed lighter. He no longer hid himself from her or the world, he was more trusting.

They had trekked for many moons. Yet there by the lake side where the fisher men had seen the dragon.Aria found a sight she had never seen. At first from the hillside she thought the glint was the waver,or some shiny stones washed up. As she drew closer she knew the truth.

Bones, glittered under the moonlight. Huge bones. Aria almost lost her balance as she walked towards them.Glenns sure hands kept her steady. There had been a battle here. Days old. There were massive marks in the earth, old blood, and the bones of the dead. They trailed along the lake side.Aria found them and found the massive skull laying face down in to the water. The skin and scales were gone.Yet a few scales glinted there just below the lap of the lake. They were black as midnight. "Its Kanu.." She knew with out any doubt. The bones were large enough, and the scales left in the water were his own color.

There was no sign of the orb. She looked back to the field of battle. Two massive titans muct have battled there. Another dragon? "It would take an army to kill him.. what did this?" She walked the line of bones, looking for clues in the moonlit grass and sand.

It was through Aria that he became more trusting, as each day they had been together. She had opened more and more of her world and life to him, with him doing the same in return. Slowly opening his own world to her, which caused them to grow even closer. Now it was to the point as if they had always been together, as they could tell what the other was thinking with just a look.

Here they were. After their long trip for the orb, face to face with the last known owner of it. Kanu. Getting Glenn to blink a moment, as he caught Aria to keep her from falling. "It was probably another dragon that done this. Or perhaps more than one." Murmured to Aria as he looked over the bones, then back to the battle field.

"This place is not safe." Aria looked out from the alcove they had found hidden in the rocks at the back of the lake. It was small, but large enough for them to hide in. She looked to Glenn is eyes searched the lake, the forest beyond. The bones of Kanu still glittered in the moonlight.

They had found Kanu's tracks, and tracks of another dragon leading in to the forest.Yet they disappeared. Kanu had come here for some reason,a reason Aria would never know. There were other tracks as well. Bare foot tracks of human or elf.

There was no sign of the dragons orb.Nothing but bones and days old tracks that seemed to lead no where.

Dispite wanting to return home Aria had needed to stay. The dragons orb had to be found and destroyed, or placed in hands of someone capable.

But this place didnt seem a safe lalce to take in rest. No matter how hidden it had been. "We should take cover n the trees,or find somewhere else.." Her words trailed off as Glenn held up a hand. She followed his gaze.

Out of the trees they came. In the moon light their skin shown like starlight.Pale as a ghost. They were taller than most humans, yet too strange to be elves. Aria counted thema s they came out. there were at least one hudnred of them, plae as ghosts in the moon light. Their hair was silver, their eyes were silvery blue. They wore simple clothing, and carried bows upon their backs. " Ithil'quessir, moon elves.." Aria assumed , she had never seen a moon elf before. They were rare creatures that hardly left their homes. Yet they seemed taller than the moon elves she had heard of in stories.

They oved along towards the bones of the fallen Kanu. Some followed the tracks in to the forest, others pointed at the tracks Aria and Glenn had left in the mud around the lake. Yet Aria had covered the most of them, they would not be found hidding.

They moved around the bone speaking to one another.Yet they didnt speak elven, nor drow. She didnt understand a word they spoke. Slowly they started to pick the bones of the fallen dragon from the sand and mud. Aria didnt speak, she knew they could not have been the ones that attacked the dragon. They seemed awed by the bones

The elves began to gather the bones, Aria and Glenn watched for some time before a from the wood something else came. A centar behind the moon elves. They were rare ,very rare indeed at least in Eldamar Ennorath . It was massive, and plae as the moon. It looked almost ghostly. It was had to tell from the alcove if t was a male or female centar. Aria listened as it spoke tot he elves, she didnt know still what it spoke. The elves with their gatehred dragon bones and left the centar looked right at her. Through the sheen of water,in to the alcove.

It looked back to the woods then rode away.

Awed Aria ducked from the alcove and looked towards the woods. Some how she knew they had to follow. Centars could be the beings in which they had been looking for, or even the moon elves. Both had magic and both were readers of the stars. Perhaps one among them was the seerer.

Aria followed the light trail of the moon elves and centar. The forest was thock and the trail soon wavered and disappeared. Aria looked back at Glenn. "Its as if they wee truely ghosts." The trail simply ended, there was no sign of it in any direction.

She started to say something then heard something. Glenns heard it as well. Motion to the east. There was a crackle of enegry and the moon light went out high above. The forest decended in to darkness. Aria put her back to Glenns. What ever was coming had darkened its approach,it was likely not a friend.

There was lighting,it sputtered from the canopy. And millions of small bats flew fromt he trees and surrounded them ian hord of snapping little jaws. Aria lifted ehr cloak high and hddled close to Glenn. No amount of swiping at them with a sword seemed to stop them. There was a crack of thender and the bats flew up and away in to the darkness. Their tiny teeth and sharp claws had left them both covered with small wounds. Aria was about to turn to look at Glenn when she heard the deep growl of a pretator.

"Aria.." Glenn breathed her name. "Don't move." She saw it too. Before them as if from nothign but the shadows it came a massive creature. She saw its eyes first. Bright red,the size of a dragons gaze. Yet it was no dragon. She saw its furred foot then,a paw twcie the size of any dragon foot shed seen. It was furry, and heavily clawed. The muzzle was next somehting like a might warg.An ancient wolf like beast. But this creature seemed much fouler. As it steped closer the forest was bathed in an errie light.. not the light of the moon. It was the creature, it threw off its own irrdessance. It was twice the size of the dragon she had eben looking for, much larger than any warg, wolf, or mighty beast of home.

Its form looked that of a wolf. But twisted some how. It fur was black its jaws filled with teeth that seemed to gleam red. It could easily crush them both with one swpie of a massive paw, or eat them both whole. Aria dared not breath, her sword was already drawn but it felt lax in her hand. She could feel Glenn breathing softly, and almost hear his heart beat.

This was death. Tere would eb no running from it,for surely no antter how swift and elf might be,this thing ebfore them could easily out pace them. As it stepped closer Aria saw it was half covered with scales ,over its hind quarters and had a dragon like tail. It alsohad wing, folded up against its mighty body.

She had no name for it. Some beast from some hellish place. Perhaps risen by the dragon orb. She felt Glenns left ahnd slip in to her own. So this was to be their end.
