Those icy blue eyes of his closed as he heard Elys' neck snap.

It was done. The Holy Mother was no more.

With this, the crowds gathered around the gallows in the town square cheered. Humans of course... Sticks, stones, fruits, anything and everything that they could grab, they did, and sent it sailing towards Elys' limp body as it hung from the noose, every hit causing her body to sway back and forth. Fahl could not bear the sight of it, and the cheering around him, the sounds of things smashing into her body...it was sickening. Though he knew she could sense him there, he could only hope it gave her a bit of comfort in her final moments, to know that she wasn't truly alone. It was all he could do. Of course he could have played hero.. making an attempt to save her, but it would have been a futile effort. He knew he would have been outnumbered by the humans and they would have both been struck down, so better that at least one live, rather than both die...ha. Such meaningless, logical thoughts Fahl used to try to rid himself of his guilt.

He adjusted the hood of his cloak a bit, making sure that green hair of his, along with those pointed ears were concealed. Suspicious? Yes. Coupled with that height? He was suprised the humans hadn't figured out there was an elf floating amongst the crowd with them. One could only assume they were so enthralled with the sight of Elys' dead body they didn't care to take notice. Fahl knew quite well, he shouldn't be here, but he wasn't about to let Elys die alone either. The Holy Mother deserved much more than this... these..heathens, how dare they do such a thing to the Holy Mother. To Elys.

"Elys, you can escape. Just allow me to stay behind, I can hold the humans back while you find sanctuary." There was a sense of urgency in his voice.

"I cannot allow that Fahl." Her voice was soft, remaining calm as it always was.

Her pale eyes widened as she felt the seal she placed upon the door weaken, she heard it crack. The humans were almost in, she and Fahl were trapped, as it was the only entrance, and the only exit. Fahl could sense it too, as his gaze also shifted a moment to look towards that door before they hovered back to Elys. She looked almost...heartbroken. He studied her a moment, not even realizing that he was memorizing every aspect of her, those pale eyes, that long, thin light green, almost white hair of hers. Those delicate pointed ears, that curved nose, those quivering, thin lips..that gave it all away. Seeing those lips of hers quiver, he knew.

This was it..but it couldn't be. He'd not accept it!

"Elys!"

"It is an order Fahl." Voice firm, pale eyes snapped towards him, staring into his vivid blues. "The Sacrosanct will fall. I will have nothing left, no matter where I go, I will be hunted. I will be despised... There is no place for me or our people anymore Fahl... It's over."

He shook his head ardently, gaze never once wavering from hers. "I refuse to believe such a thing Elys... you can rebuild! We can rebuild!" He shook now, the adrenaline taking over as it coursed his body. "The humans are nothing. We simply need to retreat and regroup...Elys. Elys?" His tone was on the brink of pleading.

"My time is up Fahl." The seal on the door was almost gone, but she kept concentrating, beads of sweat beginning to form on pale skin as she poured every bit of her power into it. "But I will save you... it is time I do something right for a change." Pale gaze shifted towards her hand, a golden orb materializing within slender fingers. "I only ask one favor Fahl. She is probably dead by now...but if you ever happen to find my daughter?" The orb was held out towards him, her gaze meeting his one last time. "Give this to her?" A request from Elys, not an order from the Holy Mother...

With a bit of reluctancy, he took that orb from her, his gaze finally faltering as it moved from hers. "Of course...Elys." He could sense magic at work from the outside now. The humans were working to tear down her seal with their magics, break into that room, and kill her, and any that might work to protect her. He also sensed her powers fading as she seal was almost...nothing.

Then it was. Elys offered Fahl a rueful smile before she started murmuring a few words, white glow enveloping her body as she lifted a hand, aimed at him. With that, the seal was broken, as she had no more power for it, the last of her strength was being used for one last incantation. That door was broken down as humans began to pour into the room, rage, and the longing for blood in their eyes.

"There she is! Death to the Holy Mother!" One cried out, sarcasm dripping upon the words 'Holy Mother'.

Fahl's cold gaze turned towards the oncoming humans, who were readying their weapons and magic. He stepped forward instinctively, ready to give everything he had for Elys. For the Holy Mother. But she wouldn't allow it.

"Malor!" Her eyes flashed white, as his own body was now consumed with the white glow that once enshrouded her. He could feel himself fading, shifting away elsewhere as she worked to teleport him away from the attack. There was nothing he could do to stop her, or stop the humans from reaching her...

"Elys!"

The scent of burning flesh tore him from his thoughts.

Finally opening his eyes, they widened in horror at the sight of Elys' body burning as it swayed on the gallows. Fahl could take no more of this... Another adjustment to that dark cloak of his and he turned, walking through that cheering crowd undetected. Perhaps not today, but he swore...one day? They would pay for this. Whoever was responsible for this war starting, whoever was responsible for destroying The Sacrosanct, whoever was gathering those damnable Shards, whoever was resonsible for the Holy Mother's death.

For Elys' death. They. Would. Pay.

As he walked on, his mouth moved to form her name, but there was no voice to accompany it. Absently, his hand moved to that golden orb hidden within his cloak. What he wouldn't give to view it...to see Elys, to hear her voice. But those thoughts were cast away immediately, the message was not intended for him, it was for her daughter. Lydia. He honestly doubted that message would ever be viewed however... Like Elys, he believed the girl was dead. She was alone in a foreign realm...well, she did have that DeGlause woman with her, but if they were hunted down, Fahl did not believe they could defend themselves. The DeGlause woman was inept at magic, and Lydia was simply...inept. It wasn't believed the girl would be gone for more than a week, which is why she did not get a more reliable guardian. No one saw this war coming until it was too late. Perhaps the age of the Holy Mother was gone now...forever. Had the humans really won though?

He was well past the crowds now, on the outskirts of the town square. Brows furrowed as he pondered. What was the name of that realm... Ridin? Rid-Inn.. It was..something like that. Certainly worth checking out at least. He wouldn't know if she was alive or dead for certain unless he checked himself, and he wasn't one to simply sit around and speculate such matters, and it wouldn't be wise for him to remain in Veian. Though he's not quite certain what to do either way... if she was not alive? That would be it. If she was? Well... then she would be the new Holy Mother, despite that human's blood running through her veins. She was Elys' daughter.

He could only hope she would choose to side with the elves.

Fahl was not the only survivor from The Sacrosanct. Some elves were lucky to be away at the time of the onslaught, some were able to escape, some simply gave up, abandoning the Holy Mother to save themselves. Celise was of that last category. It was a stroke of luck that she lived, and that he had found her. For now, they were hiding in a small village, currently proving to be a sanctuary of sorts for passing elves, fleeing from whatever terror was happening at their home, or whatever was left of their home... He still planned to leave to find the new Holy Mother, but one could not simply up and leave a realm on a whim, while being hunted down by the humans, and he had no way of leaving the realm at the moment.

Celise sat across from Fahl in that bar, at that small table in the corner. It was a nice spot, out of the way where no attention would be brought to the pair from The Sacrosanct. Those dark green eyes of hers scanned the area, and there was a comfort of sorts in the expression on her face, perhaps since there were no humans around. She was there a week ago, at The Sacrosanct when it was attacked. She chose life. She chose to run. She abandoned the Holy Mother. Eyes closed a moment...one could only imagine what was running through that mind of hers.

"..You're sure you want to do this Fahl?" Celise's voice was barely a whisper as she opened those eyes of hers, glancing his way. Though it was a whisper, it still held concern for the elder elf. "It's risky. Anything involving the Holy Mother right now...it's risky. Especially if you consider her family. Her sister." She paused a long moment before she continued, though Fahl waited patiently as he watched her. "I'm sure you're aware by now... everyone is. It was Maria DeGlause responsible for the Holy M... for Elys' death. She's responsible for all of this Fahl." Her voice hinted at rage now as she spoke, teeth gritting. "For all we know, Elys' daughter could be in on it too. She is a member of...that family as well. And the rumor about The Amulet Fahl? What about-"

Fahl raised a hand to stop her from speaking anymore, his head shaking slowly as he spoke, tone calm as he did so. "I don't care for rumors Celise. Only facts. I cannot worry myself with what that woman does now, or what she might do. For now, my priority is finding Elys' daughter. Our new Holy Mother."

Celise's dark brows furrowed at his words. "What good will that do us Fahl? I implore you.. stay here with me. We can regroup our people, fight back against the humans. We can correct the mistake our ancestor's made when they chose to let the humans coexist with us!"

Those icy blue eyes of his studied Celise a moment. There was so much anger in her now. She craved revenge, while he craved to restore Veian to how it once was. Two seperate ideals, they simply could not work together. "Do not let anger and thoughts of revenge cloud your better judgement Celise. It would be a shame for you to lose your life because you could not contain your emotions." The girl was still quite young, quite foolish indeed. Celise had only recently began to study at The Sacrosanct and serve under the Holy Mother, holding ideals that were shattered a week ago... it's obviously changed her. Though being so young, he still held hope for the girl. "As far as finding Elys' daughter, that is my duty. It is what I have sworn my life to. The humans...they are sloppy without their leaders. They will soon make mistakes. I believe if I find Lydia, perhaps she can help to unite our people. With a firm leader, we can beat the humans and rebuild."

Celise canted her head as she studied him, she looked suprised at these words. "This girl is NOT a part of our people. She is half human... she's an abomination Fahl! She is weak, not suited for her position... She is better left alone to die." Angry words spoken as a fist lightly hit the top of their table.

Icy blue eyes grew cold with warning as he regarded the young elf. "You will watch your tongue and tone when you speak of the Holy Mother child. I'll not warn you again..." Fahl wouldn't take such disrespect, not towards the Holy Mother...not towards Elys' child.

She glanced away from him a moment, hearing that warning she chose to heed it, so she took a moment to collect herself and calm down. "..I apologize Fahl. I am being too emotional. I simply..cannot believe what has happened to our people. It was so sudden." Dark eyes shifted back to him, though they dared not look directly into his icy gaze. "My concern is...what if you find her, and she chooses the humans over us? It's entirely possible that she would Fahl...you can't deny that."

It was certainly an interesting quandary indeed, though, one he hadn't given much thought over. "I will handle it..if it should come to it." His tone wasn't entirely convincing as he spoke however.

A dark brow perked as Celise smirked, just a bit as her gaze finally met his. "Fahlen Garsloth...do you truly believe you have it in you to strike down Elys' child? The Holy Mother...should it come down to it?" Her question was genuine, her tone sincere as she asked it. It was obviously not meant to anger Fahl but she really was concerned. The humans already had such an advantage already, without having the Holy Mother on their side.

Those icy eyes softened ever so slightly. "I am prepared to do what needs to be done for our people Celise." That was all that needed to be said about that, though he wondered if he'd truly be able to, against Elys' daughter... thoughts were cast aside as soon as they formed, and his attentions went back to Celise. "You are welcome to join me, I can always use an ally. I imagine it would be safer for you to leave as well? Rather than stay here to be hunted."

She shook her head. "I will always be your ally Fahl...but I cannot go with you. I plan to regroup as many as I can... I hear that many of our people have established power in Rhist, so I believe I shall go there to fight with my people." Fahl's icy gaze never wavered from the girl, even as she leaned a bit to pick up a small bag from the floor, setting it to the table with a gentle thud. "I managed to...'acquire' a few things from The Sacrosanct before I fled..." There was definately a bit of guilt in her voice as she spoke. She dipped her hand into the bag, first pulling out a small blood red gem, holding it out for her elder. "This will take you to where you need to go."

He eyed the gem for a moment, taking it with an appreciative nod to Celise before tucking it beneath his cloak. That certainly solved a big problem of transportation to this new realm of.. Rid-inn. He watched as she pulled out a couple other various items and trinkets. A small tome from The Sacrosanct, filled with knowledge of magic none outside would know of. A couple pendants, both emanating with strange powers and colors. A small glass vial with a tapered lid filled with a blood red liquid. All were tucked beneath his cloak, save for the liquid. He looked over it curiously however, as he was uncertain what it was exactly.

Celise must have caught that look because she answered the question on his mind without having to hear it. "It's 'Berserking' Potion." Fahl shook his head a bit, unfamilar with what that was, as potions and artifacts were not something he had much knowledge of. "It's rare now, but long ago before magic touched the humans, they would use this...potion in battle. It has no effect on our people, but it is very potent on humans."

"What effect does it have exactly?" He lifted that glass vial up, studying the blood-like liquid inside as it sloshed around. It was a very thin substance, though if only a bit thicker, it would look exactly like blood. It was a little..disturbing to think that some would drink this.

"It clouds judgement. It removes hesitation. It fills a person with rage and gives them a great deal of power... As you know, the humans used to fight amongst themselves all the time, so before battle they'd drink that-" She gestured to the potion in his hands. "-and it would remove every inhibition they had in battle, fill them with rage and...they were quite indestructible in battle after taking it. Well..to one another at least, blind rage did nothing against our magic." If it had, the two certainly wouldn't be there talking to one another now.

Fahl nodded, still studying that bottle. "Interesting...I don't see how such a thing would help me however." He held the bottle back out for Celise to take, since he hated to carry around something that was useless to him.

She shook her head, pushing it back to him. "The new Holy Mother...she's half human. Perhaps...you can use this if she proves to be..uncooperative. If not? I'm sure you'll find...some use for it."

With quite a bit of hesitancy he took that vial and tucked it beneath his cloak along with the other items he carried. Truly, he had no intention of using such a thing against the Holy Mother, but perhaps it would come in handy against some foolish humans should they try anything. Such a potion would cloud them of reason and decision, making them quite the easy target, should he have to strike them down. He was about to speak to Celise, but was interrupted as a young male elf approached them both, looking barely a man. Fahl's icy gaze shifted towards him curiously.

"I don't mean to interrupt you two..." The boy seemed nervous as he looked Fahl and Celise over. "..but I was just informed that a small army of humans have discovered us. Th..they're only about a day away, and they're marching here...to take us out." A bearer of less than good news it would seem...

"Damn it." Celise frowned at the news before casting her dark gaze to Fahl. "This is goodbye then." She knew it was important for all the elves gathered to leave for another place now. There simply wasn't enough of them there to fight at the moment, and many were still recovering from past battles. "A temporary one I hope.."

Fahl nodded to that, as he watched her stand. She was wasting no time here. Wise. "Indeed...don't die Celise."

"You too Fahlen." She picked up that bag of hers and turned on her heel, grabbing that boy as she moved past him. "Come on , we're going to round everyone up... We're going to Rhist." He was given no choice in the matter, and was simply dragged along with as Fahl watched. He was confident Celise would be fine. She was young, but still strong, and wiser than some her age, even if her ideals were a bit..disagreeable. Rhist... he'd also go there upon his return to Veian. Hopefully, with the Holy Mother as well.

Fahl reached beneath that dark cloak of his, pulling out that blood red gem, his icy gaze looking over it for a moment as he whispered.

"It's time."

Rhydin.

Fahl had been there for a little while now, though he hadn't quite located the Holy Mother just yet. This was a new realm, entirely unfamiliar to him. He had never been outside of Veian before, so he was certainly experiencing some culture shock here. It was odd, the humans and elves here seemed to get along so...well. He'd even seen the two coupled together, some with children, though their children were healthy, unlike the Holy Mother. Odd. And there were even a few races he had never heard of or seen before. Dwarves, gnomes, hobbits, anything and everything roamed those busy streets. This realm certainly had...variety. That's putting it kindly.

He had even met a woman from Veian. One of his people. An elf. It was a little comforting to know that some were getting away from the genocide going on back home, but of course, with every elf that runs away, that's one less elf back home standing up to the humans. Those scars had bothered Fahl, he felt as if he should have known who she was, as there was something very familiar about her. Of course, he never did keep up with the current events of his realm that well. Unless it directly pertained to him, the Holy Mother, or The Sacrosanct, he usually kept out of it.

Ah yes, current dilemma. Where was the Holy Mother?

Fahl didn't know where to start. It was a foreign realm he wasn't familiar with at all he had to explore. Of course he knew it wasn't an impossible task, he'd asked around about Lydia. Perhaps in a place like this, short green haired girls who were blind stuck out like a sore thumb? Of course those short bearded men with the boils on their face, along with those dragons, along with those elves with the blackened skin and white hair...yes.. just about everyone here stuck out like a sore thumb. Perhaps Elys' daughter would simply..blend in? He'd almost given up hope until he finally stumbled upon a lead. A man running an inn in some dank little place called...WestEnd.

"Oh yea, I 'ad a wee 'ittle 'ass 'taying 'ere...'its tha' 'scription perfec'ly"

Fahl made out the word 'yea', but..did this man just refer to Veian's Holy Mother as..an ass? "Yes well, do you know where this girl is now? I need to find her, it's rather..urgent."

"Ah'm 'fraid I 'an't 'elp ya out the'... She 'ad 'nother 'ith 'er, a ta' 'picy 'umber... 'ed hai'" The man offered Fahl an eye waggle. "I 'oulda 'low'd 'er iff'n ya 'atch mah 'rift."

An eye waggle now? He's being..hit upon? By...this man? He struggled to understand whatever nonsense was being spewed out, but it simply wasn't happening. Of course it sounded to him like he said Lydia had..an accomplice? "So, there was someone with her?"

"Tha' wha' ah sai'! An' iff'n ya 'ind 'em tel'em the' owe me so' 'oney! The' 'ipped ou' mah flo' 'oards!"

Fahl nodded, pretending to understand what the man had just said. "Of course." He could only hope it wasn't another proposition...

So she had been here, and the person with her could only be Katarina DeGlause, right? That was the guardian last assigned to her. There was hope yet of finding the Holy Mother in this realm, perhaps still alive and well. Of course it didn't look like she still lived in this WestEnd area, so he had to continue his search until he found his next, much more reliable lead at The Marketplace. It was an eldery female vendor who actually spoke properly. Lucky him.

"Mm? Oh yes... I know who you're talking about. Sweet girl, she shops around this area almost every morning. She's bought a few things from me too, talked with me a bit...very nice girl" The woman gestured to her wares. "Maybe you'd be interested?"

Fahl eyed the tacky clothing but shook his head, doing his best to be polite to the..human woman. It would seem that Lydia still carried an affinity of sorts for them. "No thank you ma'am. You've been most helpful however..."

She truly had. So now it was simply time to play the waiting game. For one day, two days, he sat there on a bench at that area of The Marketplace at that certain time, waiting for the Holy Mother to show. Of course she didn't. That would make things too simple wouldn't it? On that third day...

...It rained. It was a light rain, but still irritating and enough to make people take cover. Since it was now raining he figured there was no chance that she would show. He'd simply have to try again tomorrow, and with that, he moved from the bench, and began to head down that broken concrete path. Of course he didn't walk for long before he spotted it... a familiar shade of green in the distance. A little darker than Elys' but... there was no mistaking it. He kept moving, keeping it in his sights until he was close enough to confirm it.

The new Holy Mother, Lydia, was there in The Marketplace. Alone and without guardian too.

Fahl studied her a moment, never really noticing how much she resembled her mother until now. And she was..smiling, beaming really. He had never seen an elf, or a human for that matter look so..happy. Was she even aware of what was going on in Veian? She couldn't be, as happy as she looked in that...horribly appalling orange dress. Of course, it's not as if she's ever dressed nicely... unless someone else had picked out her clothing. Elys however, always dressed elegantly. Then again, it's not fair of him to compare her to Elys. Apples and oranges there...

Rather than approach her now, he'd wait, bide his time and simply...watch.

The rain brought a broader smile to her face, since she was already smiling. Was it even possible for her to feel happier? Well, of course it was, since Alex wasn't with her at the moment. If he was though? She'd be so ecstatic. How many people get a second chance like this? Really. She thought him dead for a week, and that thought nearly killed her. So many times she wanted to die, she nearly lost it...but she put those thoughts out of her mind. It was only a week yes, but it was the darkest time of her life. She'd rather not re-visit it...

Oh she would have liked to have Alex with her right now, but, he had his own things to do, so she did her own thing during those times. A walk through The Marketplace was one of those things, a routine of hers. She loved it there, shopping and chatting with familiar vendors. The liveliness of this place..and even in the rain, it didn't close, which was a plus considering she loved the rain too. So two things she loved put together...it was a wonderful thing. If life could always be so simple and perfect.

She stopped and talked with a few familiar vendors. They were so kind, and always gave her such wonderful deals on their items. Of course, she really shouldn't be shopping... it's not as if she had a steady income, or an income of any kind for that matter. But, it's not as if she spends that much, so it's okay, right?

Of course, she caved and made an impulse buy. A nice little basket. She just couldn't help herself, it was so cheap, and? She figured she could go to the woods, collect some flowers to put in it, and maybe she could sell flowers at The Marketplace. Just enough to earn a few extra coin. People like flowers right? So she could do that! Her second buy was a bit more practical. Food. Since Alex's return, she had started eating and drinking again, she looked and felt much better now too. She picked up three small loaves of bread, with a tiny bit of cheese baked on, and just a hint of garlic. One piece for her, and two for Alex when she saw him later on. She started snacking on her piece immediately, while Alex's were packed away into a small brown paper bag and set inside that basket of hers. How convienient!

Now she was off to the woods!

She took the same path she always did, moving about almost effortlessly regardless of that blindness of hers. It wasn't that long of a walk to get to that favorite spot in the woods of hers... no more than forty five minutes to an hour, she couldn't be sure on an exact time, and she was taking her time today to enjoy that light rain, which seemed to be dying out. What a shame. She knew she was almost at her favorite spot when a breeze carried the light scent of flowers past her, so that pace quickened until she was there.

Having no regard for that damp ground, she plopped down onto the soft grass, setting her basket aside for now. She was done with her snack by now, and went to work plucking up various flowers around her, setting some in her lap, and some in that basket. Every now and then a little memory would pop up in her mind, and a giggle escaped her. There's a reason this was her favorite spot, but she'd not dwell too long on that, she had to concentrate! Basket filled, she started to work with those flowers in her lap, weaving stems together and after a while, she had herself a nice little flower tiara, which was promptly set atop her own head. And lucky her, there were enough flowers to make a second one! For who? Alex of course, since she didn't want him feeling left out.

It had been so peaceful, so quiet, save for the natural sounds one might hear in the woods. Birds chirping, breezes flying past, leaves rustling, branches breaking as steps are taken across them, and..wait, branches breaking? That's certainly not natural, and blind eyes were cast that way. Someone was definately standing there, watching. But for how long? And...who? Not that she couldn't venture a guess. A blush touched those cheeks as she grinned.

"I didn't realize you were there Alex."

Why Fahl had watched her carry out such meaningless tasks for so long, he had no idea. It was something one did not see every day. The Holy Mother of Veian braiding flowers together and giggling like a ...child. He wasn't sure what to make out of that, perhaps he was rendered so confused by the whole situation, he could do nothing but stare. But now he's not only given himself away, he's given himself away in the most obvious, and amateur way possible...stepping on twigs. He'd have to congratulate himself later for that one. Oddly enough, she didn't seem alarmed by his presence, in fact, she seemed happy.

"I didn't realize you were there Alex."

That would explain why. She had mistook him for someone else. Fahl had to remind himself of that, though she was looking right at him, she couldn't see him. Hesitantly, he took a few steps her way, not really of mind to ponder who this 'Alex' could be. It wasn't long before he stood over the frail looking girl, casting that icy gaze upon her as she still smiled at him. Seeing her like this, it put a small doubt in his mind whether or not he was doing the right thing.

"I'm afraid you're..mistaken." As expected, that smile of hers faded as soon as she heard his voice, she scooted away from him just a little bit as an expression of worry took over her face. Fahl sighed at the...cowardice display. He wasn't being threatening in the least, and yet she wilted. "I assure you, I'm not here to harm you...Holy Mother." The words nearly stuck in his throat like a lump, but he forced them out.

She canted her head at those words, looking confused. "H..how do you know?" There was fear in her voice, but only barely. Enough for him to pick up on.

He knelt down so he didn't tower over her so much, perhaps that would help ease the girl. "I'm afraid we've not met formally...Lydia." That was easier for him say, he'd probably stick to it. "I am Fahlen Garsloth, one of Elys' advisors."

"Mother..." Those blind eyes of hers trailed down towards the ground, he caught sight of her nibbling on her lip nervously.

Fahl continued, rather than wait for her to get over whatever it was running through that mind of hers. "First and foremost...I owe you an apology, as I was unable to protect your mother, and was unable to prevent her execution, despite the fact that..I was there. That is unforgiveable." His words were sincere, as he truly believed it.

She looked shocked to hear that, and shook her head slightly. "No... Mister Fahlen I'm sure you did everything you could... So don't say that. Mother's death wasn't your fault."

Lydia wasn't there, she couldn't be sure of that...and 'Mister Fahlen'? What was she, twelve? He was a bit uncomfortable having the Holy Mother address him in such a way. "Fahl will do."

"Alright then...Fahl." Finally, the fear was gone from her voice. "Are you here regarding the...war and the genocide?" Those blind eyes darted upwards, almost directly into his icy gaze.

...How unsettling, he looked away from her. "I am." So she did know, and yet she was still here, rather than with her people? This didn't look good. "Lydia, our people...they suffer. The humans are casting us from our homes, killing us without mercy. You're not there to see- to experience what exactly is going on, but it's brutal. Our people are all seperating, we have no leader to govern or guide us and with Elys' death...we need you." Direct, straight to the point. Though..perhaps it's not the best tactic, as he saw she looked frightened as he looked towards her again. Lovely.

"I've heard...though I didn't know it was quite that bad." She nipped at her lip. Odd habit. "I'm terribly sorry...I just..I don't think that...I..uh.." Those small hands of hers moved up to play with a shell hanging from around her neck.

Fahl shook his head. "I'm being far too forward Lydia. Forgive me. Though having seen the damage done first hand, and seeing Elys... I just want a quick resolution to the problem, and that's simply not going to happen." He paused for a moment, taking time to look her over, evaluate... she looked as okay as she could be, being that small. No visible wounds or anything. "You appear to be doing well... I am glad. I feared you would be dead. As did Elys."

Those strange, pale, familiar eyes closed at hearing her mother's name. "Mother... I wish I did more, to prevent her death..." A curious statement, but he'd not press. It wasn't his place. Those eyes of hers opened once more to move towards him, though they weren't quite on target there. "And yes, I suppose I'm..well..." He was certain there was much more to it than that, but again, not his place to press for detail. Not yet at least. "I should...be going though. I've been here for so long... Alex is probably... um. I should go." She moved quickly, reaching out for that basket full of flowers and foodand and started pulling herself to her feet. Being the gentleman that he is, he took her arm, helping to lift her up from that damp ground. She was tense. His strategy really was all wrong it seemed, though he didn't feel he had done anything to warrant this behavior from her.

Fahl wanted to speak to her more, about so many things, but if she was so eager to go, he wouldn't pressure her to stay and talk. The last thing he needed to do was scare her off. And for now at least, he'd hold on to that orb Elys gave him to give to her. There was no telling what was on there, so he'd wait until their next encounter before handing it over. "Of course...Lydia? I do have one request." He moved from his kneel on the ground, standing at full height now. He reached into his cloak, pulling out those two very useful necklaces he had recieved from Celise. They both had small, tear drop shaped crystals on them, shimmering with a faint white light. He took one, and wrapped it about his own neck.

Lydia gripped onto the handle of her basket tightly, knuckles turning almost white. Fahl couldn't help but wonder what was going on in that mind of hers... "Yes..?" Her voice soft, weak. Emotions seeping out of her, quite unusual for one of his people, then again, she was only half of what he was.

At the risk of being foward, he took a small step towards her, wrapping that other matching necklace around her neck, working at the clasp behind her neck. He frowned as he could feel her tensing and trying to pull away. "It's alright Lydia...it's an amulet that will protect you. A...shield of sorts. I wouldn't dare hurt you." Dirty, rotten, blatant lie. An amulet that will protect her? Not in the slightest, but in this case, the lie is justified by the means, right? If she wore that necklace, and he wore his, he'd be able to locate her. Already, the two started to shimmer being so close together. It really was nothing more than a tracking device, but it really wouldn't harm her... "My purpose, is to protect and serve the Holy Mother. To protect and serve you. For now, my request is simply that you wear this necklace, so you will be protected should harm come your way." Finally those hands of his retracted from her.

Small hands moved up to touch at the pendant, brushing past the shell that hung a good two inches below it along the way. Lydia's brows furrowed just a bit as she did an evaluation of it...feeling, trying to sense something from it, at least it's what it looked like to him. She offered him a nod. "Of course Fahl." She took a step back, starting to turn away from him but paused. "I'm sorry to...go so quickly. It's just..so much to take in..and I..uh..." He could only hope she wasn't always like this. "...We will speak later? I'm staying at a place...called the Red Dragon Inn..." He could tell by her expression that she regretted saying it as soon as it came out.

"Of course. I will seek you out later then...Lydia. We will talk." He's not quite sure if she caught that however, as she had already turned and was running away.

Certainly not befitting behavior for Veian's Holy Mother...

As Lydia walked down the halls of the Red Dragon's second floor, she traced her fingers over the door knobs she passed. Her steps were slow, she was taking her time. Thoughts drifted for a moment, only to be interrupted by the touch of wool against finger tips, rather than the usual cold, smooth surface of the other knobs.

She was home.

Home for now at least. Though she could ask for no better, she really was content with this place. Wool knob was twisted and the door pushed open slowly so she could step in, and with a turn on her heel she quickly pushed that door closed again. Sighing, she stood there a moment, giving the slightest cant of her head, it sounded like she was the only one in the room. Boots were kicked off first, though she was mindful not to leave them strewn about. They were collected and set neatly in a corner with another pair of her boots. She was careful to keep them seperated, as she didn't want to walk around with mismatched boots again, that'd be rather embarassing... That basket of flowers was set upon a dresser, and bag of bread within was removed from the flowery mess and set aside, of course she inadvertently spilled a few flowers on the dresser and floor, but she didn't take notice of that, or rather, she couldn't. She still smelled that light hint of garlic emanating from the bag, hopefully Alex liked garlic and cheese? She's never thought to ask... She reached up and removed that flower tiara of hers, and set it across the basket handle, along with the other tiara.

Though still early, she was already..so tired.

It wasn't as if Lydia had anything else better to do, so a nap seemed a good idea. It would do no good to worry about what Fahl had told her...With a sigh she headed on over to the bed, dropping on her side of it without even bothering to pull the sheets back. It wasn't as if she were cold or anything... Legs were swung over the edge and onto the bed as she stretched out, resting head against pillow. Quite comfy. Quite tired... those pale blind eyes of hers started to close as she already felt herself drifting...

...but what was that smell?

Lydia opened her eyes. Something was wrong... she sniffed the air. It smelled as if something was burning. Perhaps it was a cooking disaster downstairs in the kitchen? No no, that wasn't it. It was something else... Palms to the bed, she pushed herself up, only to have something spatter in her face, in her hair, and even in her mouth. It was...coppery tasting. It was blood.

"...what..?"

She lifted a hand to brush that blood on her face away, though she seemed to be smearing...more blood on her face? Her hands were absolutely drenched with the thick, still wet liquid. She shook her head and swung those legs around to hurry out of that bed...what was going on!? Bare feet made a sloshy sound against the ground as she stood. She could feel a thick, warm liquid on the ground, seeping between her toes.

"..oh god..."

She felt sick inside, holding those bloodied hands of hers up and away from her body, she started walking across that blood soaked floor... each step taken made an audible sound as flesh clapped against liquid. The scent of blood was so overwhelming now...and what was that burning? It was..flesh. She slipped on some of that blood and dropped to her knees with a whimper.

Blood, ashes, burning flesh... The unmistakable scent of Death.

Blind eyes opened as she now caught the scent of...garlic?

Lydia sat up in bed, brows furrowed as fresh memories and scents still lingered in her mind. Something horrible had happened, there was so much death, so much blood, and the fire... That was no mere dream, was it? It was too real to be a dream, yet... she pushed her hands close together, fingers tracing her skin. There was no blood. She touched her face, no blood there either. But that couldn't be right... It was JUST there. She felt it, she smelled it, even tasted it...

She could still taste it.

Legs swung around, bare feet reluctantly pressing against the hard wooden floors...there was no blood there either. "This..this isn't right.." Lydia gave a vehement shake of her head as she dropped to all fours, crawling across that wooden floor as hands moved, feeling around for the blood that had just been there. It couldn't have disappeared like that... there was too much for it to just do that! Yet...if it was all a dream, just how much of it was a dream? She reached up, just above that shell necklace to grasp at the tear drop shaped crystal hanging above it. It was there... so that much was real.

Fahl.

He wanted her to go back to Veian, help lead the elves in the war against the humans... but how could she do such a thing? It was a war she didn't support. Nor did she support the elves, then again, she didn't support the humans either. It was a meaningless war, purist against purist. Before now neither side had wanted or accepted her, but now that things were rough for the elves, some wanted her back...to help them, to lead them. For all of her life, it's what she wanted, to be accepted by her people... but they weren't her people. And now? She wanted nothing to do with them anymore. Of course she ached for the innocent that would be hurt and killed in this war, but was it really her problem anymore?

Such thoughts were cast from her mind as she took a deep breath, slowly expelling the air from her lips as she tried to calm herself.

"A silly dream... it's all it was..."

Wow, it's amazing the money one can make simply by selling flowers. A friendly smile, a hearty hello, it's all it takes to get even the roughest sounding of people to buy flowers or heck, even flower tiaras, and there's no telling how mismatched those things look, considering Lydia can't quite see what she's doing when making them. Random flowers, random colors, braided together... She hadn't expected to make much of anything doing it to be honest, but? She'd made a few good coin from it... of course it didn't last long, as she already raided The Marketplace. There was no guilt though, she was spending money she made herself now, it wasn't.. hard earned, but it was still earned.

Destination? The woods of course. She needed a wide open area for what she had planned. She wore some of her new things... a midnight blue, shoulder baring tunic, drawn in at the waist by a plain brown cloth fanny pack. It wasn't exactly... fashionable by any means, but a fanny pack was so much nicer than having a pouch hanging off her waist, much more organized too. Clunky boots were replaced with sandals, laced up almost to her knees, a little better, but still. Lydia was a fashion catastrophe, and she didn't even know it.

Destination reached, she smiled, letting that white staff fall from her hands onto the ground. Oh yes, she had found it. It took some dumpster diving, 7 showers, 3 scrub downs of that staff, but she had it, and smelled normal once again. Good thing Alex was in Lazros really... she'd rather not have him around thinking she smelled of dumpster on a regular basis or something. She missed him of course, but he had his own life to attend to, so it wouldn't be fair of her to expect him to remain by her side, all hours of every day. She needed a little alone time too, like right now.

A sandaled foot moved over to her staff and on top of it. She was going to 'staff' as Alex put it, or at least attempt it. She'd never tried such a thing before, but she thought it would be neat if she could learn! So..what now? Ah yes, levitation is needed for such a thing, right? Lydia took another step foward, her other foot coming down to rest on the staff.

"Litofeit."

Incantation of levitation was cast upon the staff, rather than herself, yet she was still off guard as the staff wobbled a bit as it lifted into the air, which sent her falling back right on her bum.

"Ow..."

What's the saying, when you fall off a horse, you should get right back on? Well, Lydia could only assume the same applied for staves. She hopped to her feet, brushing grassy residue from her bum before making another attempt to step onto that now levitating staff. She was a bit wobbly, and hands flew about awkwardly at her sides as she stood on it, but hey, she was doing it, sorta? Well, she had to make the staff move to actually 'staff'... so with a narrowing of blind eyes, she concentrated...

...and staff flew out from under her feet, which flew upwards and over her head as she barreled into the ground on her back.

"Ow! Ugh... this might take me a while to get right..."

~~~~~
That staff flew upwards, knocking against her head. "Ah!" That staff then flew down, hitting the back of her head. "Ouch!"
It had to have been what? Two, three hours and Lydia was still at this, trying to learn to 'staff'. Of course, she was failing rather miserably. With a bit of a growl she stomped over to that staff, feet planting firmly upon it. She was going to get it right this time! A bit of concentration, rather than incantation lifted that staff from the ground. Wobbling a bit, she still remained upon it... okay, so far so good, now to move it slowly...very slowly... Oh oh! She's moving...just a little bit... One inch, three inches... a foot! She grinned excitedly, perhaps she was finally getting it. Or maybe she would have, if a certain voice, or perhaps the words hadn't caught her off guard.
"What exactly are you doing Holy Mother?"
Staff flew out from under her feet once again, and the elf went tumbling down onto that sore back of hers...again. She'd definately be bruised later. Ugh. More importantly however, that voice, and the way she was addressed... she furrowed her brows.
"I'd rather not be...addressed that way.. Fahl."
Fahlen Garsloth
Date: 2006-09-07 01:54 EST
Fahl furrowed his brows as well as he looked down at the Holy Mother, laid out upon the ground after doing only god knows what with her staff. She looked almost as if she was trying to...surf? Except with a staff... Most peculiar. Though it wasn't really his place to question what she did in her spare time, now was it? A slight shake of his head was offered before a few quick steps were taken towards Lydia, his icy gaze now looking down upon her upside down face. "I'm sorry Lydia... Allow me." Kneeling down, he gently laid his hands upon her shoulders, ready to assist her in standing.
"I'm fine." Lydia's voice hinted at irritation as she pulled away from him, picking her staff up from the ground. That icy gaze of his never left her however, as she moved to pull herself from the dirty ground, and brush herself off. Clothing choices were noted, now the Holy Mother was running around wearing nothing more than a long shirt..? "How did you find me..?"
He caught that narrowing of her blind eyes at him. She was suspicious, and rightly so. How he found her? Using the power of the pendant she wore of course. He could locate her any time he wished it...not that she knew. "Hm? Luck I suppose. This is relatively the same area I found you last time, so I took my chances with it again." A lie, told for the greater good in his mind. He rose to his feet, towering over the girl who still had those blind eyes narrowed upon him. There was certainly no trust here... "Have you been well Lydia?"
"Of course... Why are you here?"
There was no dancing around the issues at hand either... "Have you given much thought to what I said?"
Lydia frowned, those blind eyes moving downwards. "Of course I have..."
"Have you made a decision then?"
She turned, and started to walk off. A bit rude really... "I..I don't feel obligated to help the elves Fahl. I'm sorry but.. I'm staying here..." She almost sounded convincing, almost.
Fahl simply followed Lydia as she walked, he'd not lose so easily. The elves needed her. They needed the Holy Mother for guidance, even if it was... her. "Am I to assume you're helping the humans then?"
"No!" Lydia turned suddenly, almost looking angry. He couldn't possibly imagine why. "I'm not helping either side Fahl. I want nothing to do with the elves of Veian, I want nothing to do with the humans of Veian... I want... nothing to do with Veian... period."
The duty/obligation route didn't seem to be going so well. "Duty aside Lydia... what about what you want? You have no desire at all to aid those that need you?" Fahl couldn't believe such a thing. No normal person could turn their back on thousands upon thousands suffering and dying. "You've not been in Veian for quite some time, so you don't know what it's like there Lydia. Our people... they're not doing well at all. We are being hunted, tortured, killed... there is no escape either, no place for us to hide. So what are we to do? The elves have always looked to the Holy Mother during hard times, and the Holy Mother has always delivered the elves from those hard times... Are you honestly telling me that you will be the first to turn your back to us?"
"Turn my back to you? I have never been wanted or accepted by "our" people Fahl... Never. And now I am supposed to give up everything I have, everything here... to return to people that never wanted me.. but no, they wait until they're in trouble, then they want me? I doubt that Fahl..."
"Perhaps not all do, no. But the majority yes... do you really want to turn your back to them?" Fahl dipped his hand into his cloak, retrieving that gold orb Elys had provided him to give to Lydia. "Your mother never did... she was always there for them, up until the end."
"..and look where that got her." Lydia sighed and shook her head a bit. "Fahl.. I am not willing to die for people... who... I.. I can't... Not now."
"No one is asking you to die." Fahl finally offered a sigh of his own, extending that golden orb out for Lydia as he took a couple steps her way. "Your mother... Elys wanted me to give this to you." He let the orb graze her fingertips, letting her know it was there.
She canted her head curiously as fingers wrapped around the orb. Judging from the look on her face, Fahl could guess she knew exactly what it was. "A message...right?" Lydia...smiled? Yes, Lydia was smiling... though the look in her eyes was sad. "If a small part... just a small part of me believed this message was simply.. that, I'd listen to it Fahl, I really...would. But I know my mother... this?" She gripped the orb tightly, holding it in the air. "Is simply an order... I'll not follow it..."
Icy eyes narrowed as he watched Lydia toss the fragile orb aside so callously. It shatted against the roots of some nearby tree. Jaw clenched as he fought to restrain himself... she was the Holy Mother after all. But to show such disrespect to Elys? That was... "...I hardly... think that was neccessary."
"I didn't want yet another... guilt trip Fahl... I think? You.. You should leave me alone now."
"I cannot turn my back to-"
"And I will not allow anyone to control my life!" Lydia's blind eyes shimmered for a small instant. "I mean it... leave me alone..."
Fahl was losing his battle, yet again. "Lydia... please think about what I said at least... don't make a hasty decision, not just yet."
No nod, no words, no acknowledgement at all to his words, the Holy Mother simply turned away from him to run away. He pondered following her, but that would do no good. Maybe she just needed a little more time? But damn it... the elves didn't have that much time. How could she be so selfish? If people need her, she should be there for them. It was that simple, but there was something keeping her here, there had to be. Why would she stay in this realm though? What would cause her to turn her back to the elves? Maybe she was just scared... or perhaps, she really was that selfish. No, he could tell, she did care, she did feel guilty about what was happening. She had to.. want to help. She had to.
Things were going to get messy if they kept going like this...
Ignoring death seemed to come so easy to her now.
"Please Lydia! Don't tell anyone! If you do they'll cast me out again... Don't say anything. Please!"
Lucy's pleading voice echoed in her head, over the sound of water gushing from the faucet and into the tub. The girl killed, then wanted her to pretend that it had never happened. It wasn't like she killed in self defense...no, it was murder. Yet...
"I can't control it - it wasn't my fault! It wasn't my fault!"
Lydia agreed. She agreed to keep such a thing secret. She agreed to ignore the death of that man. She agreed to simply turn her back to it, as if it didn't happen. Just as she had already been doing to those in Veian... Reaching out, she shut off the water. Though there was no blood on her visibly, she still felt it, still smelled it... It was unbearable to her senses. Still donning her clothing, and even those clunky shoes she stepped into that bathwater, immersing herself in it in hopes of washing away that blood that blanketed her body...at least the blood she could feel, though really, there was nothing on her. It didn't stop her from rubbing her arms off with that water however.
"It's not my place to ..judge.."
She's hurt. She's killed... always in self defense though. Of course, how true was that really... she's lost control of her powers before, as of late, they were..changing, growing, it was taking some getting used to, but she was getting the hang of it. Except of course when her emotions took over... she would just strike out uncontrollably, perhaps, on some level, she could relate to Lucy... Though she hasn't killed anyone in such a way yet, the fear was there. Yet...no. She was weak. Too weak to do such a thing.
The scent hit her so hard it hurt her head. Holding her breath, she laid back, submerging her head and hair in that water completely. She had to escape the scent, the feel of blood on her face even. Blood didn't splatter on her when Lucy... but why did she feel it? Why?
Being submerged was almost peaceful... an escape for the senses. Though she couldn't hide there forever...already her lungs craved air, so she sat up, breathing as she pulled out of the water. Nothing... the scent and feel of blood was finally gone. Had she really washed it off? Though it was never there...
Absolutely soaked, clothing and all, she stepped out of the tub, dripping all over the floor. What a nice little mess she was leaving behind as she walked from the bathroom and into the main area of the room she was staying in...Alex would be certain to appreciate it later, not that her thoughts were treading there. With a sigh she sat on the bed, and of course, water dripped from her to the bed, another pleasant suprise for sure. She started to fold her arms, but a hand brushed against the fanny pack she wore around her waist. Seems she just doused that too.
She hoped she hadn't ruined anything in there, unzipping it, she felt around, it's not as if she carried anything around with her that could be ruined by mere water. Coins and other assorted knick knacks... and a shawl that was neatly folded up, now dripping wet like the rest of her. She pulled it from her pack and dropped it to the floor with an audible squish sound as water soaked cloth hit the hard floor. A soft 'click' was also heard against the floor. Odd. A slight furrow of her brows as she leaned forward, hand moving across the floor where she heard that 'click'. Fingers closed around that familiar, warm, pulsing object...
...the rune.
She sat up, holding the item between forefinger and thumb. The one thing that made sense in her life, to her at least...though by all means, it shouldn't.
"..I've..I've no right to this life... Being 'Lydia'... it's not all I am, no matter how much I deny the rest of myself... it will always be there. ...I'm sorry for being nothing more than a lie... I wish I knew the truth, but I don't."
Fingers traced over the rune momentarily before it was dropped back into her pack, which was promptly zipped up. With a sigh, she pushed herself from the bed and towards the door.
Towards her life...towards her lie.
The T-Stone in Fahl's hand dulled a bit as he turned it between his fingers, icy gaze looking it over. It brightened momentarily before returning to that dull shimmer of crimson, powers waxing and waning. The problem? That small hairline fracture that ran one quarter around the circumference. Though he had no choice in the matter, this particular stone would have to do. The other stones he held either lacked the power for such a transfer, or was needed for future transportation of more important items, or rather, people.
The crimson stone was carefully set aside before he picked up a quill, lightly dipping it into the almost empty bottle of ink sitting at the corner of his desk. Excess ink was tapped from the quill before he pressed it to parchment...
I pray that you are alive and well and that this letter finds you Celise, though to whom I'm uncertain.
I'll be quick to get to my point, I'm afraid that my return to Veian will be delayed, however I have good news regarding the Holy Mother.
"How did you know I'd be here?"
Lydia held out her hand, fingers uncurling to show the crystal pendant within. "The same way you keep finding me I suppose?" She approached him, holding the pendant out for him to take. "I really should have figured it out by now...but, I don't need to wear it anymore, you already know where I stay so being able to seek me out using this is a bit redundant isn't it?"
Fahl furrowed his brows, reluctantly taking back the pendant, his own now shimmering brightly as a reaction. "I...guess it is." He was confused, and it showed forth in his voice. The last time he had seen Lydia...it didn't go well. He tucked pendant beneath cloak, blue eyes roaming over the girl...something seemed different somehow.
"What exactly are you doing here Fahl?"
A brief glance to the brilliant T-Stone in his hand was taken before his gaze returned to Lydia. "I was about to return home..."
"Is that so...I'm guessing that this is my fault. I have treated you pretty horribly..."
An emerald brow raised. Was he...hearing right? "Oh...well. I need to return to Veian, even if I have to do so without you. The situation there is...well..." His raised his hand, making a waving gesture of sorts. "...you know."
"That I do." A knowing nod from the girl before her pale eyes snapped up suddenly. "Which is why...I hate to ask you this, but do you think you can stay a bit longer Fahl?"
"Why?" He shook his head. "There's no reason for me to stay... I am needed in Veian, and cannot simply-"
"If you want to go now I understand! But.." Lydia's gaze lowered, teeth working on her lower lip. "..I've done a lot of thinking. What I'm doing..it's not fair. Not to anyone... I only ask you to stay, so that I might join you when you return..home. I'm not saying I'll stay permanently however...just..long enough to help the elves."
It took a bit of persuasion, but she has decided to aid us in our fight against the humans. I was worried at first that she might favor them, but I am now convinced other wise. I would leave now, but the Holy Mother insists upon staying here for now, because as it turns out, Maria DeGlause is alive, and not only that, she is in this realm.
She also carries The Amulet.
"Might I ask why we you want to remain here?"
"I have an issue that needs to be dealt with. My sister..Maria. She's here." Simple and straight to the point.
"Maria DeGlause is here!?" Fahl had to wonder why the mastermind of the Veian war would be here of all places... "Why?"
Lydia offered a shrug. "Revenge I suppose. She wants to kill me and...a friend of mine. Not only that, but she possesses The Amulet. I can't allow her to remain in possession of it...so you understand why I have to stay here, just a little longer, right?"
Fahl nodded slowly in return. "Of course... winning the war in Veian will be for naught if Maria decides to simply wipe us all from existence." His head canted a bit, curiosity gnawing at him. "Who is this friend of yours she wants dead?"
"That's not really important, is it...?"
You know as well as I do how incompetent the humans get without their leaders, so if the Holy Mother is successful in eliminating Maria, not only will she have proven her loyalty to our people, we will perhaps, win the hardest battle of this war. The humans will lose their leader while we gain ours, power will be certain to shift in our favor, Celise.
Fahl paced around a bit, finally plopping down onto the grass, ceruleans cast over towards Lydia, watching her curiously. It was a strange turn of events, but...it was welcome nonetheless. "What ever became of your guardian? ..Katarina?"
"I'm unsure where she's at now..." Definate distaste in her voice as she spoke. "...but she's a non issue in all of this."
"Are you sure? Considering her position, you may very well have to fight her. She is a leader of the humans after all..."
"Hardly. She gave up that position, and now? I doubt she'd ever return to Veian... she is a non issue, not to be worried about."
The whereabouts of Katarina DeGlause are unknown to me. The Holy Mother insists she isn't worth worrying about, but I can't help but do so. To destroy one tyrant only to have another ascend in her place? I'd rather not do such a thing. There are simply too many pieces in this war, too many people to have to worry about, too many leaders and too many factions. Right now, it's so disheartening that I know nothing of what's going on back home. I don't know our position in this war, nor do I know the humans' position. All I can do is hope we're doing well.
If there is any way you actually get this, and can contact me, please do so Celise. I need to know what's going on, for peace of mind and so that I might keep the Holy Mother up to date. We need to plan and take action against the humans.
Don't die.
Fahlen Garsloth
He dropped the quill back into the bottle of ink, leaning back in his chair with a sigh. After an appropriate amount of time passed so that the ink could dry, he reached beneath his cloak, pulling out the pendant he recieved from Lydia earlier. It was carefully dropped onto the vellum and rolled up. Should Celise get that, she'd be able to find him when he arrived in Veian, and vice versa, should they be in the same proximity. He folded the letter up around the letter and plucked the flickering T-Stone from the desk.
He never had much luck with these things... Celise had tried to show him exactly how to work them, and control him, so hopefully he retained that knowledge. The destination he had in mind for this stone would be for the bag Celise always carried with her, or at the very least, close to her...gods this had to work.
Stone was set upon that letter and given a gentle squeeze, within a matter of moments a ruby red light shimmered forth from the items in question, and then? They were gone.
Fahl hated resorting to hope and prayer in times like these...
Lydia stood alone at the WestEnd docks, tears flowing down her face, body shaking, heart breaking, so fragile...
"He's dead, and I blame you."
Alex was dead. Really dead. There was no doubt in her mind about it...not after what Lucy had told her. She might not be able to sense such a thing, but Lucy...?
Lydia cried...and cried...and cried... and then? She cried more. Sobbed and shook, fell to her knees, succumbed to everything inside of her and around her. She withered and wilted...what else would one expect?!
Save your tears for your father girl...I've no time for them.
There was no more mother, no more father, no more Gwydion, no more Alex... She could not save her mother, or her father, or Gwydion, or Alex...
"Alex..."
He hadn't been around, she knew that much, but she figured he was tending to his own business... not that he was dead.
"I should have done something!"
But what? Followed him... sought him out?
"If I weren't so immersed in my own problems..."
Nothing but a burden... A burden! Always a burden!!
"How could this happen...!? Alex..I'm so sorry..."
Her eyes were so dry now, though no amount of tears would bring Alex back. Ever. Mother's words were true, too true... what was the purpose of crying? Of lamenting? He'd be...he'd be so disgusted if he could see her now. They all would be, because surely, she was disgusted with herself.
Nothing more than a child, crying pitifully whenever tragedy befell her. And really...her entire life was so damn tragic. Though whose fault was that? Did she ever work to change that, or simply take it... If those close to her always died, it had to be her fault right? She did NOTHING to protect them, she simply..cowered, wept, she was a child. No, worse than a child... Children had potential, what did she have?
Lydia's gloved hands curled into tight fists as she screamed. So hoarse...her voice. What good was screaming? She needed release... all that pain, that hate, that anger... all those negative emotions swirling within her were so...so foreign! Damn her human half for this... for feeling, for... giving her the humanity the rest of the elves in Veian lacked. Things would have been so much simpler if she were pure elven, then perhaps she would have fit into the caste molded for her. She never would have met any of them... even Alex... maybe then he'd still be...
She felt sick. The cool, salty air of the sea she used to love the scent of... it sickened her now... the presence behind her however, was what was most sickening. The tendrils of dark magic creeping up upon her, slithering and caressing her form...
Maria.
Pale, blind eyes narrowed as she stood, slowly. There was no mistaken what it was she was feeling right now... all the love she once held for her elder sister was gone. Replaced with a new feeling... a very strong feeling...
Maria's shrill, deviant cackle had Lydia turning, so brilliant white eyes could look towards her. She wasn't missing much... half of Maria's face was shriveled and burnt, an eye missing, her beauty gone. The insanity within reflecting outwardly now. "You look to be a mess...dear little sister..."
Hesitation...fear...there was no more room for it. No reason to hesitate other than fear, no reason to fear anymore... the worst Maria could do was kill her... And quite honestly? She didn't care. Not a bit. Maria would kill her, take over whatever damn realm she wanted, or maybe even wipe out all of existence with The Amulet.
Existence and those within it be damned...
She started walking towards Maria, past the tendrils and dark flames being expelled from The Amulet, no more fear, and her walk? Strangely steady... "...This ends now Maria."
"Hmm? This has been dragging out for a while no?" Another cackle. "I plan to make you suffer dear little sister...like you've never suffered before...for everything you have put me through."
Lydia didn't so much as even flinch as she continued on, closing the gap between the two. "There is hardly anything you could do to hurt me now Maria... You are nothing."
"Nothing eh? ...Why do you say these things little sister, hmm?" A pause, before she spoke again, this time, so tauntingly. "You look pained now Lydia...what has happened? What is making you ache so..?" Oh, now Lydia could hear the grin in her sister's voice. "...Where is that man who always comes to your rescue? ...Alex."
She stopped, feet firmly planting on the ground. Eyes shimmered brighter as she narrowed them, voice lowered to a dangerous level. "You've no right to speak his name you dirty human bitch."
Today, one half of her died. The other however, had finally awakened...
Maria had no warning. The flashes and shockwaves and blades of pure magic erupted from Lydia too fast for her to react, or even to speak. There were no screams, no cries of pain... it was simply...over. To her it felt like several, tiny blades were dancing across her body, cutting and tearing, until finally that last blade of magic tore cleanly through her neck. Head and body seperated as she fell limply to the ground.
Dead, obviously.
The darkness that one flowed so freely from Terone's great queen withdrew quickly, seeping back into The Amulet that clunked softly as it hit the ground, idly rolling away from Maria's corpse.
"That was easier than I thought it would be..."
Lydia approached the body, not a care in her mind, nor in her heart as she leaned down to pluck The Amulet off the ground. Already she could feel it's dark energies seeping into her body, affecting her...somehow. She felt..powerful. It's understandable now how one could be so easily corrupted by such an item.
That's why she had to get rid of it.
The Amulet could be hidden, it could be sealed away... but how reassuring was that? Some...person would likely find it, abuse the power it held for their own ambition, just as Maria had done. No...there was no other alternative, she would have to draw it from existence, but in order to do that?
She'd have to go too...
It was the last resort, something she didn't want to do before, something she had no intention to do unless absolutely neccessary. Before, however, she treasured life, had so many plans, ambitions...now?
Nothing.
The Amulet was gripped tightly within her hands as the dark energies seeped out of it...into her own body. Blind eyes closed as she concentrated... Perhaps with this last action, she'd finally be doing something right, something worth while. She'd finally be making a difference of some kind.
"I'm sorry I won't see you again...not where I'm going..."
Black tendrils shot out suddenly, wrapping around Lydia, spinning fast, faster.. a blur of nothing, travelling around her, through her... something was wrong however. Swirls of light entered the mix, traveling along with the darkness, melding with it, causing a reaction that was hardly...normal. An audible 'whir' resounded as winds picked up around her, sparks of fire crackled around, and even a stray bolt of electricity danced in the air. Magics and mana were having a field day with their instabilities...
Finally all of the energies ceased and receeded, suddenly tearing into Lydia's body, causing a scream of pure agony to escape her lips as she went limp.
