Krajiinkt and Linaeve left the Southern Glen, on a path for Krajiinkt?s shuttle, to take them both to the Flotilla as promised. As they walked, hand in hand even, it seems a spell of silence had fallen over the pair, not a word was exchanged between them. Slowly, Krajiinkt led her to the Inn, but not inside. They went around the back of it, through the alley?s, where there was an abandoned Mando?ad base, presumably once belonging to the clan Ordo.

In the midst of this broken shell of a military base, was a small landing port, a shuttle bay that had survived whatever catastrophe that had originally reduced the base to rubble. He led her through this debris strewn building, stepping over and past fallen equipment and chunks of sheet rock and metal, to a pair of large metallic doors. Obviously, these doors were new, recent; he had them installed with a few K?neah techs, and did a lot of restoration work on the shuttle bay itself. He had even considered completely restoring the base and moving in, but that was a task for another time.

Inside the shuttle bay, was a largish landing craft, a small orbital shuttle designed to transport passengers from large starships, to planet surfaces, and vice versa. It was roundish, no circular like your generic UFO, but had an odd organic design to it, curved rather than flat and rectangular, with a light silvery color, and flecks of blue here and there. The cockpit was opened, a pilot?s seat at the front most part of the craft, with four passenger seats behind it. Conical, in a sense, or triangular.

Krajiinkt led Linaeve to the craft, and helped her inside, then climbed in after her. Naturally, the seats were high backed, as the race it was designed for was tall, and it had a large amount of leg room. He helped fasten all the buckles and restraints into place, then sat down in the pilot?s chair, and strapped himself down. The cockpit shut, a dark tinted glass like compound slid over their heads to seal it off with a low ?hiss?.

He glanced over his shoulder at her, just to make sure all was well, then flicked several multi-colored switches, and the engine hummed to life. It was a quite craft, not roaring or loud like many human made shuttles, just emitted a low humming sound, constant and rhythmic.

The shuttle bay opened on the ceiling, and slowly the craft lifted from the ground. Landing gear was pulled up and closed into hatches on the bottom of the ship, then as it cleared the base, its nose angled upward, and it slowly started its ascent. Soon enough, the shuttle picked up speed, darting swiftly through the air, slowly breaking through the planet?s atmosphere.

It took a few moments of quick flying, the ride was surprisingly smooth, and then it was as if they were in the ocean. All resistance stopped as the broke past the planet?s atmosphere, and drifted out into the cold vacuum of space. If she thought the planet looked wondrous or amazing from the Flotilla, now, it was as if they were floating directly above it, in an ocean of midnight and stars. All around them, a veil of black and twinkling silver, behind them, a great ball of blue water, land masses, and white clouds. It was all very ethereal, very otherworldly.

They drifted about for half an hour, slowly cutting through the emptiness that was space, simply so she could see it all in full, then he angled the craft to head off in a new direction, and soon enough, the Flotilla came into view. It was a massive fleet of starships and shuttles, all drifting around the planet in a mass group. They all held similar design, large, round in general shape, and colored with blues and silvers. Except one, the middlemost ship, the largest, was oddly rectangular, boxy and pronged, with many spires similar to a medieval cathedral or a Gothic castle. Its colors were reds and silvers, the K?neah flagship, the ship he would be taking her, where his father, the Grand Admiral, K?neah equivalent to king, waited.

Linaeve

At any moment it felt to Linaeve as though her heart was to burst from her chest, feeling as if her own skin suddenly too constricting for the furious pounding of it. The secret ruins that hid his streamline ship, the ominous silence as they stowed away into the great metal cruiser; even the flurry of new technology within the intimate confines of the ship was enough to give her food for thought for many a night to come. The trip hadn?t even truly begun, she realized, as Krajiinkt?s slender, quick hands strapped her securely to her too large seat. Unable to help her nerves, she sought the cool brush of his skin when he?d given her belts one last check, a soft smile upon her lips, the expression behind those thin spectacles words enough for the comfortable silence between them.

The drift through the ether of space was what caught her breath the most. Krajjinkt had been correct in assuming the awe she experienced as they rolled through the endless blanket of the stars. Hands balled into loose fists though as the ship suddenly picked up it?s pace, their leisurely drift over it seemed. It wasn?t long though before she?d become overwhelmed again by how small she truly was, the community of Flotilla?s ships they approached was her reminder as she felt herself shrink back into the already over encompassing size of the K?neah seat.

Never one to be inferior and over encumbered by and impending task, Linaeve had taken a deep breath, releasing the tension that?d settled upon her shoulders. Her curiosity had been piqued by the singularity of the ship their craft approached, how closely it seemed to reflect classic architecture from RhyDin?s history. Again she had been struck by the similarities she?d encountered. With bated breath did she wait, watching with owlish eyes as their ship made it?s way into an open channel beneath the massive ?castle?.

Had Linaeve been more distracted, had her own curiosity been less keen, she would have succumb to less important, personal thoughts on interesting turn her and Krajiinkt?s friendship had taken. It had been one of the reasons the importance of her trip with him to his home amongst the stars had doubled; his family made up the hierarchy of the whole of his race. Now she was not only going to be discussing the exchange of vital technology with the Grand Admiral and his head teach of technicians and scientists, she was going to be discussing the exchange of vital technology with Krajiinkt?s father, mother, and sister. Somehow the intimacy of meeting his family shook her much more than important titles they held. But, again, Lineave would only be worrying about this if she weren?t so busy soaking up the details of their journey?

She?d been broken from her thoughts as the ship touched down, the abrupt halt of their weightlessness made a soft gasp squeak from her. As Krajiinkt unbuckled his own seats, he would come back to her with a smile upon his elfin features, for he?d obviously heard her squeak of surprise. Linaeve had been stumbling desperately with her own straps, and was stilled by the touch of her blue companion?s as he undid the clasps she so desperately had a time with, with deft ease. Returning his gentle expression with a nervous one, she followed him then from the ship, her lips slightly parted as her eyes drank in the scene before them, barely conscious of her own feet upon the ground.

A reassuring smile was again offered, seems he'd be giving a lot of those during their trip to the Flotilla. Then, his long multijointed hand reached out, and curled gently around her's as he started to walk off. A few short nods were given to other K'neah, all wearing masks similar to the one he had originally worn. Some silver, others blue, gender was easily distinguishable.

The hangar they had landed in, was filled with many such shuttles, and mostly tech crew members. A large circular door before them opened, and they were suddenly in what looked like a rich palace. The K'neah that passed them wore flowing robes of fine silk-like materials, none of them wore the masks the ones in the hangar had, all looked very noble and regal.

"This is the entrance hall," he said as he motioned about with his free hand toward the large hall that they were walking through. Their feet moved across velvet like carpet, red down the middle, silver and gold along the sides. Many columns stood up on either side of them, vaguely similar to those of roman palaces and architecture.

He slowly led her through the palace like ship, past rooms where odd experiments took place, strange equipment being developed, and meetings occurring everywhere they went. Eventually they came upon another set of round doors, and it was here they waited.

"Those are the doors to the council chambers, where father will be. You should probably refer to him as Admiral Vakntah for the time being, this being a purely political meeting."

Finding herself unable to release her hand from the security of her tall, blue companion?s, Linaeve soaked in the grand, busy halls of the ship. Wide, curious eyes regarded her surroundings with the awe of a child who?d been taken someone big and unfamiliar. Sure she had met many walks of life, and of course she was used to strange cultures; but this was by the grandest, most mind blowing experience she?d ever been a part of. Feeling drawn between peering into the humming activity about her, and retaining the modesty to respect their privacy, she chose instead to sink into her thoughts.

Before meeting him, she had only ever heard whispers of such stellar possibilities. Given the slightly underdeveloped technologies of RhyDin and its surrounding countries, the lovely scholar only had those said whispers to go off of; she truly felt humbled by it all. The feeling of being inconceivably tiny compared to the wide, infinite darkness of space threatened to creep upon her again. Indeed reassured by Krajiinkt?s calming, gentle presence, his voice drew her from her thoughts. She found her gaze sliding away from him though; up the tall, tall doors of the Council Chamber.

She held back the small quiver of anticipation and nervousness that threatened to slip down her spine before turning back up to her odd friend?s face. Flashing him a small smile with a firm nod of her head, Linaeve replied. ?All right then? I can only hope that I will be able to live up to the impression you?ve no doubt given them of me.? Deciding that if she was to feel a bit less daunted by the entire importance of this meeting and her involvement with the peaceful K?neah, Linaeve took it upon herself to reach out and land a firm, polite knock upon the massive chamber doors.

With a 'whoosh' the doors opened smoothly before t hem, and led the way into a large circular chamber. Krajiinkt led her inside, still guiding her by the hand, and they stopped on a small circular platform. In front of them, was a raised dais like structure, with a large throne like chair, upon which was seated, a tall and old K'neah.

This man, wore not robes, but impressive power armor, silver and black, as was his hair, black with strands of gray so pale they seemed silver. His eyes were an intense and deep violet, his face wrinkled and old, but his gaze alert and full of life, this was the Grand Admiral, this was their king, and Krajiinkt's father.

Next to him, in a smaller, but still large throne, sat a female, draped in white and gold robes, with silver skin, an aged face, and bright blue eyes, her hair was long and silver, lustrous despite her age, Krajiinkt's mother.

Then next to her, in a chair even smaller, was a much younger K'neah woman, with skin as smooth as the richest silk, with eyes of a deep and inviting green, calm and kind, silver hair like her mother's, angled cheek bones like her father's, Krajiinkt's sister.

He bowed low to his father, greeted him in the K'neah dialect, then motioned to Lin while introducing her as well.

"Lin, this is my father, Grand Admiral Vrinktar Vakntah, my mother, High Priestess Vileina Vakntah, my sister Rashtina Vakntah, and her advisors," he motioned to the small group of scientists who stood behind, and to the side of his sister.

Then he turned to them all, and spoke for a few more moments in the K'neah dialect, his father nodded and spoke a few times, but otherwise, he was left uninterrupted.

The doors hissed open before Lin and Krajiinkt, revealing a room that was less formal and more homely, than the other facilities of the Flotilla?s capital ship. Warm and welcoming, this room was filled with the close members of Krajiinkt?s family, his father; Grand Admiral Vrinktar, his mother; High Priestess Vileina, his sister; Rashtina, her husband; Likkraija, and his nephew; Vakntah.

Vakntah hopped up all quick and eager to greet them, bounding across the room to first nearly tackle Kraj in a hug around the waist, before moving off to embrace Lin as well.

?Hello Vakntah,? Kraj greeted the younger K?neah with a quiet chuckle, patting his head before letting the boy move off to offer his greetings to Lin.

?Hello Kraj, hello Lin,? Vakntah greeted in response while looking up at Lin. ?Lin!? he began excitedly, ?I started reading that book the other day, its really erm?what?s the word?? the boy trailed off as he tried to remember the word he was searching for, the common tongue being a new language for him and all. ?Anyways, I like it! Thanks again!? firm nod as he released her and backed away.

This would be the third time the at-times-timid healer would have taken care with her appearance. Her hair had been plaited with thin, opaque ribbons to hold it in place at the base of her neck, though try as she might little whisps had escaped to cradle and feather frame the gentle curve of her face. The slight weight of her long braid resting on the small of her back was a comfort to her, an anchor if you will; for as calm as she appeared and had assured Krajiinkt that she was, Lin couldn't help but feel a wee nervous at this intimate gathering and secret gifting. Wouldn't you?

Just as her eyes were filled with the tall, lovely K'neah family before her and all their gentle expressions, Vakntah's form had broke her vision when it barreled into her and Krajiinkt. A hand had come to rest gently on the boy's head as he pulled back from his tight arm wrap about her body, unable to help but chuckle at his excitement. "You're most welcome, little man. I'm glad you're enjoying it." She said with a nod of her head before the boy retreated.

Silver eyes fell to the majority of Kraj's family again, her smile genuine, yet slightly wane. Despite her best attempt, they would undoubtably see her mild intimidation written across her expression. "Good morning to you all." She said soflty, her head inclining in the Admiral and his wife's direction first before then to Kraj's older sibling and her husband.

The other?s present all nodded in return, his mother holding a warm and welcoming smile for Lin. They voiced their greetings in the K?neah native tongues, none of them, save his father and Vakntah, have started learning the common tongue just yet.

Kraj greeted them all in the same way, choosing their native tongue as it was most comfortable for the elder?s present. With gentle urging, Kraj led Lin into the room, away from the doors that almost soundlessly, closed behind them. The curl of his silvery blue arm around her waist squeezed lightly in a silent and reassuring act while he guided her around the various pieces of odd furniture that decorated the room, to go stand with the bulk of his family.

The small boy Vakntah followed the pair; not too different from the way the furry Jiink would often tail along with them while they walked. ?Yup, I like it a-lot,? he added for further clarification, bubbling with energy and excitement, as he always was.

Leading Lin to stop before his mother and father, his free hand lifted to grasp the older K?neah?s forearm in a warm and firm shake, before moving forward for a one armed embrace. His mother was given the same embrace, followed by the short ritual of brief kisses to the cheek. After the greeting between father, mother, and son, the Grand Admiral cleared his throat.

?Lin,? the older K?neah started his voice still thick and heavy with the accent of their complex native tongue. ?I thank, for coming so early,? the continued, his words choppy, lacking the smooth and flowing ease of his usual method of speak. ?Many thanks owed to you; saved K?neah from extinction, make Arzkielda Tree strong and healthy, make Krajiinkt happy,? the last bit had the older blue man smiling warmly, and the younger Kraj grinning slightly, albeit with the most subtle of darker blue tints to his skin.

Another kind expression was given to the energetic blue boy as he followed close behind. She turned though, and the silver eyes behind thin silver frames watched this warm exchange between Kraj and his family. Her heart thumped softly as she thought back to her own mother so far away, touched and taken by these simple, family gestures... But those thoughts were not for now, she decided quickly before tears threatened.

As the Grand Admiral made his thick attempt at her language, she nodded, her smile widening; though from the praise of his words, not how they were spoken. She knew she had helped the K'neah people, but in her mind it wasn't something so grand that some other clever person could not have managed to do it if in her place... Then again, given the deep appreciation everyone here kept giving her, she knew that their words were true, heartfelt, and that she would have to accept them as truth, not just polite pleasantries.

Deciding on this path to honor their praise instead of bow from it, she stepped forward, her lips pressing for a brief moment to her fingers before they reached out and touched the Admiral's cheek. Whether or not it would be received in the manner she'd meant to given it, her eyes spoke well enough her feelings. And as her hand fell back to her side, it brushed Krajiinkt's fingers, slinking around them in a familiar gesture of comfort as she waited for his father to continue.

For a moment, the Grand Admiral was silent, as if trying to decipher the meaning behind the gesture. Then another warm smile was flashed from the older K?neah, who finally fell back into his old tongue, speaking to Kraj directly, in order for the Hunter to relay it to Lin.

?He?s touched,? Kraj said, listening to his father at the same time, ?and thanks you again, not only for your help, but for the heartwarming feeling your presence brings,? Kraj flashed Lin a smile of his own with those words. ?He said that he?s called us here today, because he has something he wishes to ask you, an offer and favor, something he feels you deserve.?

While Kraj relayed that last bit of information to Lin, the Grand Admiral reached into his robes, withdrawing a small wooden box, almost a perfect cube, with a lacquered surface, shining softly in the warm lighting of the room.

The Grand Admiral offered this box over, a small silver latch locking its lid close, a primitive thing, easy to open, obviously a present of some sort. ?He?d like to know if you?d hear his offer.? That was the end of Kraj?s words for the moment, now it depended on Lin.

Eyes traced the old, delicate box as her slender fingers reached out to cradle the small cube gently. Lin handled the thing as though it would break, like the most precious of glass, her touch the picture of care. Silver seemed the theme here, and for a moment she felt more a part of this scene than ever before. She saw in the reflection of her lenses the silver of her eyes, with more focus she then noticed the silver frames of those lenses, further still to the latch upon the box; even the room around her, their silvery clothing, the bright reflection of Kraj's eyes, his mother's beautiful skin...

It brought a new smile to the healer's lips as she brought her attention back to the here and now. Only a moment's breadth had passed during this careful revelation of their underlying color theme. The severity of the situation had caught her nervous attention again, but she squashed it back down, and mentally pulled up her 'big girl' skirts. Lin's head canted, brows furrowing ever so slightly as that smile curled into one of genuine curiosity and interest.

Curiousness overrode her senses, and prompted the clement nodded. "Of course I'll hear him out, I would not be the person you all claimed I was if I did not have the courtesy to listen." Those silver eyes so much a reflection of Kraj's, stared kindly into the Admiral's as she spoke, though she knew his son would translate.

Relaying the words to his father, Kraj offered Lin a smile, while waiting for the older K?neah to respond. A moment later, the Grand Admiral was speaking in his native tongue, fluently, elegantly, while Kraj paused him every so often, to translate for Lin.

?He says first, that he wants you to know, that no matter how long you?re here, you?re always welcome among our people,? Kraj started with glances between his father and Lin. ?And that he would like to know, if you would honor us further, by adding the name Vakntah, to your list of names. He?s inviting you to become a sort of inducted member of our family, like a clan name of sorts, not blood, but just as important.? Kraj finished, smiling widely as the news was given.

His blue hand, the free one lifted, and gestured toward the box, bidding her to open it. Inside, she would find two things, the first, was a bracelet, a piece of K?neah jewelry, made of foreign silver like metals, with delicately interwoven links of sapphire strands, mingling with the silver. The second item, was a rolled up piece parchment, odd to find such a thing on a high tech ship as this one, but there it was. In rich, silver, flowing script, were many lines written in the K?neah tongue, ending with the seal of the Grand Admiral and the Vakntah family. The Grand Admiral?s seal was that of a Tree, a great one, similar to the one Lin had breathed life into, while the Vakntah family seal, was a knot similar to the Celtic styled ones, with another, similar tree, four stars, and a great unknown bird soaring over the tree.

"Liddenfolk... It has been such a lonely name for so very, very long." A watery smile took hold of Lin then as her fingers ghosted across the various treasures inside the box. For a long moment she just marveled at the silvery script and delicate bracelet, though it was soft, because her eyes were half lidded, thick lashes hiding the soulful glimmer in her silvery eyes. Swallowing thick, with emotion, she turned to them all to further explain; this was a story she did not often tell, and they deserved to know the history of her family before they offered to share their own.

"The very first of us was a man... A powerful wielder of Light and Dark magicks, the first half very much like my own." A hand rose as she spoke, and a lone finger traced the delicate, foreign outline of the bird upon the secondary crest. With a soft breath, life came to the shape, and a bright ghost of the bird soared from the paper. "He, along with the other first Magi, found finally for man and sentient creature kind alike, how to harness the magick of the world. When he met his beloved, they bared only one child; a little girl... The babe was gifted with his innate power for the Light magicks."

The little bird of light she'd breathed to life had traveled the distance from the box to the air above their heads. The bird split into countless multiples not a moment later, showering the room in a warm, gentle wash of light; it would dissipate as she spoke. "Ever since that, the line of LiddenFolk has been women, and only women, and only ever one child... We keep this name in honor of our one and only forefather, though I speak for my entire lineage when I say, I am humbled by this request to take the Vakntah in conjunction with my own. I know of your family enough, in this little time spent on your wondrous home, just how genuine and rare a folk you are.... And how special." Lin turned for a moment, her eyes lingering on Kraj, her smile growing fonder, before turning back to the bulk of his family, even little Vakntah. By the time she finished speaking, the lingering lights had faded, but the warm zeal she exuded had not.

Krajiinkt?s, the Grand Admiral?s, and all the other K?neah?s eyes lifted up, tracking the display of Lin?s magicks with avid interest, fascination, and something akin to awe. Finally, the old K?neah leader lowered his gaze to the woman once more, listening to her speak the translator in his ear working at an alarming speed to break down what he heard. Then with a small nod, a warm smile touching the corners of his lips, the Grand Admiral started to speak in response.

?He says; that you do him an honor with your words, and only serve to strengthen his opinion on this matter, that he would be both honored, and overjoyed if you were to accept this offer,? Kraj paused again, as he often did when translating. ?You have a power unlike any other in the Flotilla, and unlike any other that we?ve come across on the surface below. Not your magicks, however awe inspiring they may be,? another pause came, the older K?neah had stopped talking.

?Yours is the kindness that, time and time again, proves to be a heartwarming thing, a reassuring glimmer of a silver star in the endless sea of space. That your presence affects all in such a way, is unprecedented, but not unwelcome. The strong feelings between us, the heroic image of hope to the rest of the K?neah, and your increasingly surprising and refreshing humility; all serve as a beacon and guiding light for our kind,? Kraj finished, offering Lin a small nod, smiling just as warmly, if not more so, along with his father.

"The honor in our conversation is double ended, I assure you, Grand Admiral. Your son, Krajiinkt, was the first of your family I'd come across... Did he tell you of how we met? The circumstances?..." She trailed off then, sparing the ground a shy glance before her eyes side swept to the familiar, lean contours of her love's face. For a moment she found herself lost in the memory of their meeting, the coolness of his skin, the stumble in his melodic voice when he first began to exchange language with her.

The endearment loosened it's hold on her face then as she blinked, a bit embarrassed at her own mind's aptness for wandering. Silver eyes turned back to the Admiral as her voice found itself again. "Another time... For this one here is about my answer to your decorous offer." Another breathless pause then as tentative fingers traced the delicate bits in the box, though her eyes never left the tall, slender figures before her. "How could I do anything but accept? Not to do so would be an insult to the Vakntah family as well as my own. Of course I will take your name into mine, as I said, it is an honor doubly shared." Her answer was accompanied by a nod, feeling an indescribably powerful swell of pride course through her; not only from her decision, but the Admiral's words. Such words delivered by Kraj were not unheard of, for they'd often exchanged sweet, pride-inducing nothings when the other was speaking too humbly. But to see them backed by the warmth in his family's eyes, the reflection of there acceptance, it all but took her breath away.

She bowed then, a gesture starting from the waist down, her braid threatening to slip down the slender curve of her shoulder the movement was so prim and grand. A hand rose though as she bowed, a slender finger holding the bridge of her glasses in place as she gave a slight, sudden wink towards the smallest of the group. The smile that accompanied that secretive wink was wide, warm, and accompanied by a small flash of her teeth. "I suppose this really makes me your auntie now, hmm? Linaeve LiddenFolk Vakntah, or Linaeve Vakntah LiddenFolk, which do you think suits better, little man?"

Kraj offered a smile to Lin when she looked toward him, his expression endearing, a soft look to his already fair face. With her acceptance of the offer, that smile widened, he positively beamed, as did the younger one present. The Grand Admiral?s smile, while not as wide as Kraj or Vakntah?s, was no less joyous and pleased with the response.

The young K?neah hopped up as he was spoken to, blinking about at the room, eyes flying from one adult, to the other, until they went in a full circuit back to Lin. ?Hrm?.? He looked thoughtful then, the young Vakntah. ?How about?? a pause came while he thought all the more, his face a twisted mask of serious concentration, ?Both!? he finally answered, ?Both!? the young Vakntah repeated with an excited chitter, having both seemed perfectly logical to him.

That had Krajiinkt, and the rest of the adult K?neah chuckling quietly, a soft musical sound from their throats, at the young one?s expense. It was a sweet and affectionate sound though; they all adored their youngest relative, the young and ever optimistic Vakntah.
