Krajiinkt and Linaeve left the Southern Glen, on a path for Krajiinkt?s shuttle, to take them both to the Flotilla as promised. As they walked, hand in hand even, it seems a spell of silence had fallen over the pair, not a word was exchanged between them. Slowly, Krajiinkt led her to the Inn, but not inside. They went around the back of it, through the alley?s, where there was an abandoned Mando?ad base, presumably once belonging to the clan Ordo.
In the midst of this broken shell of a military base, was a small landing port, a shuttle bay that had survived whatever catastrophe that had originally reduced the base to rubble. He led her through this debris strewn building, stepping over and past fallen equipment and chunks of sheet rock and metal, to a pair of large metallic doors. Obviously, these doors were new, recent; he had them installed with a few K?neah techs, and did a lot of restoration work on the shuttle bay itself. He had even considered completely restoring the base and moving in, but that was a task for another time.
Inside the shuttle bay, was a largish landing craft, a small orbital shuttle designed to transport passengers from large starships, to planet surfaces, and vice versa. It was roundish, no circular like your generic UFO, but had an odd organic design to it, curved rather than flat and rectangular, with a light silvery color, and flecks of blue here and there. The cockpit was opened, a pilot?s seat at the front most part of the craft, with four passenger seats behind it. Conical, in a sense, or triangular.
Krajiinkt led Linaeve to the craft, and helped her inside, then climbed in after her. Naturally, the seats were high backed, as the race it was designed for was tall, and it had a large amount of leg room. He helped fasten all the buckles and restraints into place, then sat down in the pilot?s chair, and strapped himself down. The cockpit shut, a dark tinted glass like compound slid over their heads to seal it off with a low ?hiss?.
He glanced over his shoulder at her, just to make sure all was well, then flicked several multi-colored switches, and the engine hummed to life. It was a quite craft, not roaring or loud like many human made shuttles, just emitted a low humming sound, constant and rhythmic.
The shuttle bay opened on the ceiling, and slowly the craft lifted from the ground. Landing gear was pulled up and closed into hatches on the bottom of the ship, then as it cleared the base, its nose angled upward, and it slowly started its ascent. Soon enough, the shuttle picked up speed, darting swiftly through the air, slowly breaking through the planet?s atmosphere.
It took a few moments of quick flying, the ride was surprisingly smooth, and then it was as if they were in the ocean. All resistance stopped as the broke past the planet?s atmosphere, and drifted out into the cold vacuum of space. If she thought the planet looked wondrous or amazing from the Flotilla, now, it was as if they were floating directly above it, in an ocean of midnight and stars. All around them, a veil of black and twinkling silver, behind them, a great ball of blue water, land masses, and white clouds. It was all very ethereal, very otherworldly.
They drifted about for half an hour, slowly cutting through the emptiness that was space, simply so she could see it all in full, then he angled the craft to head off in a new direction, and soon enough, the Flotilla came into view. It was a massive fleet of starships and shuttles, all drifting around the planet in a mass group. They all held similar design, large, round in general shape, and colored with blues and silvers. Except one, the middlemost ship, the largest, was oddly rectangular, boxy and pronged, with many spires similar to a medieval cathedral or a Gothic castle. Its colors were reds and silvers, the K?neah flagship, the ship he would be taking her, where his father, the Grand Admiral, K?neah equivalent to king, waited.
