Topic: Launch: The Preparation

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam

Early morning. But it was no change from the typical schedule of things. Buram had long grown quite accustomed to the early mornings and late nights since moving to his new home aboard the Nexus Traveler. The duties of a captain were never done, not even when the ship he commands hasn't even felt the caress of space.

The Sangheili was ready. The ship was ready. The crew was slotted. All that was needed now was a final call to his crew of 76 who were not on board already. The Captain raises his personal comm device up from the desk and speaks into it, channeling the message to all crewmen.

"This is Captain Buram Fovemai of the Vadam lineage. At the end of the week, the Nexus Traveler is going to be launching for the first time, departing for Sector 680. All crew are required to appear on board within the next three days for briefing, loading, and final allocation of gear and bunk space. We will have two passengers on board in addition to our crew and cargo, who will appear at their leisure before launch. Report to your Leftenant Commander upon boarding. Thank you. Over and out."

With a deep breath, Buram set the comm device on his desk in the Captains Quarters. The deed was done. Now it's time to let the dominoes fall.

(This is a call to arms! All player crew members are required to post here, or the character will face serious consequences for desertion. Passengers, this is your chance, as well, to cement your spot on the Traveler for her maiden voyage.)

Rakki was still in the hanger preparing the APAS for the launch securing it tightly down. when buram's voice comes across he nodded slightly and made his way to do a final sweep over the slipspace drive and all the sublight engines. his relativley small crew reporting to him to see if he needed any help with a simple 'everythings in check sir.' though because rakki is rather self reliant he continues his quick scan of the engines before heading up to the bridge to report to buram, "rakki the yordle is here boss and ready to launch!" stated upon his hovering platform as he floated in the bridge waiting to see who else woudl show up.

"engines and slipspace drive is ready for launch boss." a sage nod as he looked at a small personal data assistant. to keep readings with the power readings, engine stability and slipspace radiation.

Lidia was positioned in front of the Science Officer terminal directing it's staff over the final checks and calibrations of all scanners, analyzers, and sensors related to it's department. The staff under it were competent, well trained, and a few admired the quaint looking AI that was their Lieutenant Commander for Science and Data.

Robotic digits flew over keys and glided over the myriad touch controls. Everything was to it's liking, though Lidia had a side board anomaly running over the options of being allowed to be called a female and whether or not to start referring to itself as her. Maybe with the new upgrades it was planning that it will be more appropriate. For now, it patched into the ship communication system and alerted bridge of Science and Data's status.

"Captain Fovemai, this is Lieutenant Commander Lidia of Science and Data. We are a go with all systems nominal."

Ellie had made it a point to wake up early and she could be found in her chair in front of the controls, one legged crossed over the other and her hands crossed behind her head. The Cap had made it clear that no drugs of any sort were allowed on-board, and so the white headed little deviant kept a candy cigarette perched between her lips as if it were the real thing.

She watched the blinks and the bleeps and the bloops of light dart across her line of sight and a grin spread across her face in an attempt to combat the serious case of butterflies she had going on. She was just waiting for orders; and hoping to catch a glimpse of the passengers.

Zev Zayveon

Lord Zayveon stepped onto the bridge.

His gaze swept over those about and noted familiar faces. He'd been offered a guest spot onboard the new ship. Around the system and back, as it was put to him while the ship was still being finished. Noting the pilot and remembering her not doing so well with her test. Hopefully she was more familiar with the ship now and it wouldn't be a bumpy ride.

A bow of his head over at the Captain. It had been sometime since last they spoke for the dealing of energy weapons for the crew. The Lysandros Syndicate had even acquired the desired weapons and items Rakki had asked for.

Arms crossed over the crimson robes at his chest. His gaze watchful of those about, while keeping out of the way. His tail shifted behind him and out at the side. He had brought a briefcase onboard and for now it would sit to the side. Nothing of importance, unless they ran into trouble.

Familiar with many forms of space vessels, The Lysandros Syndicate holding to many they sold along with those they used for their own purposes.

Lu Lu blinks as she heard the captains call to the ship. She picks up the comics she had been looking at and pays the man behind the counter. She quickly leaves the store and heads for the ship. She quickly goes to the crew bunk room and puts her comics on her bunk. She checks that they are in order before scampering off.

Lu Lu's tail and ears twitch as she makes her way to the kitchen to check in with Tyler, the head cook. She then climbs the access chute as quickly as possible. She checks that all her gear is in the right place before walking onto the bridge and checks in with her leftenant commander . She was ready to go into space. Being a kid though, she barely contained her happiness in being able to go.

Staggering and limping as he heard the call, the new liquid that the Sanghelli introduced to him called whiskey, even though the liquid was disgusting he found himself downing the elixir as if there was a shortage. "Well the captain calling got to go". Walking in a zig-zag form he barely makes it to the ship.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam

Date: 2011-10-09 23:25 EST
Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: Aboard the Nexus Traveler, Captain Buram Fovemai waits on the bridge for his officers to appear. There's Zeravah, who takes a seat at his console, new uniform covering his tall form. Then comes Leftenant Ellie, who props herself up against the console to just watch and listen.

L.I.D.I.A.: Lidia would appear through the hatchway, her movements fluid, precise, and barely a hint of whirring. She was sporting a new chasis and casing after a few major upgrades. She takes a seat at her console and watches with luminescent eyes. From her back was a set of small wings, retracted.

Rakki the yordle: Rakki would soon appear on the bridge, having taken longer then others would from being such a short stature and not having the speed to keep up with most people do to their walking would be his sprinting. he would stand and look toward buram a small salute coming from him before he crossed his arms.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: Commander Loren appeared with LIDIA, and she takes her seat looking toward Buram, who now settles into his big, hardly comfy chair. "Good evening. As you know, our maiden voyage will be occuring within the week. I brought you all here to reveal our destination so you can properly train your crews and get them organized before the launch." At this he pushes a button on his chair, dimming the bridge lights and forming a galactic map in front of the commanding platform.

L.I.D.I.A.: Several etheral pannels glowed around Lidia as she started analysis and recording of all information.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "If you can please direct your attention to the map now. The system we will be journeying to is a nearby system, well within proper test protocols for the slipspace drive. It is called Carix X. Two stars make up the heart of the system, named Icron, a white dwarf, and Sulfron, a red giant. Four planets orbit these two stars in an orbit similar to Rhy'Dins, named, respectively, Ariacius, Sharoon, MX-5, and Doorax."

Rakki the yordle: he would twitch at that and look to buram before steping up onto a disk like structure.. (designed by him) it floating up slightly as he looked at the map keeping his mouth quiet for now.. he very well knew of sharoon he knew this system very well, a smile coming across his face knowing that he would again see his home.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "Doorax is the most outwardly planet, and a gas giant. The others are too small to observe from Rhy'Din. We do, however, know that there is a large space station situated above Sharoon that serves as the home of the indiginous Yordle, who we do know, from personally having one on our crew, is capable of space travel. Mr. Rakki, what should we expect from the system?"

Rakki the yordle: "in what degree boss?" looking toward him slightly a the system map.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: By this point, the map had zoomed in on the system, showing a pair of stars, one much larger than the other, and the gas giant Doorax. "In every degree. You know more about it than any of us. Please, share with us your knowledge."

Rakki the yordle: "ah.. the gass giant... just... steer away from it, its gasses seem to eat metal and create large ammounts of hull damage, and i for one... do not want to be eaten alive by corrosive acid or the such. it itself is well to just stay away from. really there is no reason to approach it, we have checked around it, nothing even circles it." looking to him and smiling slightly.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: He nods, motioning the Master Engineer to continue.

L.I.D.I.A.: Lidia kept analyzing things.

Rakki the yordle: he cleared his throat before pointing to the next planet down the line. "MX-5, one of the most... interestign planets... we have no idea whats on the surface but onyl large ammounts of water and vegitation, the moons there do hold rich deposits of iron titannium and the such.... every yordle expedition sent to the planet surface never returned, lost contact with them within 3 hours of landing. if we are to investigate the surface i recommend EXTREME caution.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "Might be some interesting biological finds down there."

Rakki the yordle: he chuckled nerviously obviously a racial scare for the planet... "possibly, though if we do go... i would like to attend the surface expedition personally if that is alright with you boss." motioning to sharoon. "this planet sharroon is currently off limits to all but the bandle city's research and nature control, currently in the prossess of terraforming, i dont know its been awhile since i have been there. it might be done by now, the moons holding poor resources from being mined themselves by the yordles for extra resources. the moons how ever do sit very close together, making it a potential hazard."

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "Where is Bandle City, exactly? It's over the planet, right?"

Rakki the yordle: "Almost.. it is actually right here.." points to a large astroid belt directly between Sharoon and Ariacius "when the planet is completely terraformed they will actually be 'landing' bandle city on the planet.." making minute qoutation marks as he said landing.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "Then that is where we should head once we're inside the system."

Rakki the yordle: Another possible threat are raiders do like to attempt to raid Bandle City, so we will have to exercise caution around entering the system. Before i left we were working on the fleet ship, a warship to protect the system from invasion. Though it was in early stages of development." pointing to the closest planet to the twin sstars. "Sow this... so far i only know of a few yordles who have been there, and yes, it is EXTREMLY hot... reaching nearly 500 degrees Fahrenheit, maybe even more.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "That's no issue, there. We can take down the rad suits."

Rakki the yordle: But, also, the worst part is, when the cycle is complete, when night comes.. the temperature drops VERY rapidly, any metal equipment that was heated from the day time, pretty much cracks from the sudden adjustment.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "Hm. Alright."

Rakki the yordle: "and its relativley short day periods.. so I don't know how we will work that in boss." nodding slightly. "Any questions from anyone?"

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: He looks at LIDIA. She was the one who really needed to know this kind of stuff.

L.I.D.I.A.: "I will analyze this all and give you any querries that I have." Her data pannels dissolved into thin air.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "I think that's it for now, Mr. Rakki. Thank you."

Rakki the yordle: oh and on the side note.. i told you how we are....obsessed with technology... i recommend that, L.I.D.I.A wears something to hide that she is a AI, or else they will practiclly be all over her..." chuckles and nods.

L.I.D.I.A.: "I will ensure to energize my outer metal skin to keep them off."

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "We'll see what we can do... So, that is our mission. We are going to mine iron and titanium from the asteroid belt and perhaps perform biological research on MX-5. We will also mine for diamonds for Lord Zayveon on Aricius. Get your crews ready, General Muster tomorrow at 1700 hours."

L.I.D.I.A.: "Affirmative Captain."

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam: "Dismissed."

L.I.D.I.A.: Lidia stood and walked back to her lab.

Rakki the yordle: a ending salute before he scurried off with the platform sliding off to take a good nights rest.

Buram, after the meeting, sat in his chair on empty bridge. He looked outside, to the drab grey of the hangar that the Traveler was currently anchored in, and dreamed.

No more would he look at grey, metallic, and boring. Come tomorrow, he would look at the vastness of space, with the planet Rhy'Din miles below him and the ship that had taken up so much time for the past six months since he arrived by force on this alien world, as much an alien himself.

Alone. Maybe forgotten, at least back home. But as alive as he felt since the glory days of his people, his lineage, before the glassing of Reach, and even before First Contact at Harvest. The vastness of the galaxy was in his reach.

And, somewhere out there, the key to travelling beyond that.

Somewhere out there was the key to the ultimate prize: control of the Nexus itself. All that had to be done was find it. And this ship was the key.

And a ship is only as good as the crew.

Buram presses a button on his chair, activating the shipwide channel, knowing that all crew is now accounted for.

"This is the Captain speaking. General Muster at 1700 hours, Rhy'Din Time, tomorrow evening. All crew is required to attend."

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam

Date: 2011-10-19 15:37 EST
Ding. A simulation of a ship's bell rang from the speakers aboard the Nexus Traveler.

Ding. The sound echoed through the halls of the seemingly-empty scientific freighter.

Ding. But that was just on the outside. Sure, A Deck was empty. But B Deck...

Ding. In the B Deck recreation area, at the fore of the ship, the only place large enough for the entire crew to gather in General Muster...

Ding. Captain Fovemai stood on the stage at the fore wall of the ship. Tetradactyl fingers were folded behind his back. The alien, covered in the blue jumpsuit that all crew was issued, waits patiently for the crew to answer the bell-tolled time for General Muster before the ship launched for her maiden voyage to Carix X.

As the final deep-sounding bell--the only way for the crew to tell the difference between the morning up to 11:59 and the afternoon after 12:01--sounded, announcing the coming of the 17th hour, Buram's voice in a pre-recorded message came across the ship channels. "All crew, report to B Deck Recreation Area for General Muster. Repeat, General Muster in B Deck. That is all."

Now it was only a matter of time as Buram awaited his Commanders and Leftenant Commanders to report in with their crews. The Marines and General Crew came first, lining up in a row in front of the stage with the ships security standing in attention, but both groups in an orderly fashion.

Ellie was jarred from her nap by the echoing of the captain's voice and she sat up straight in her bed, groggy eyes focused on a room she still had trouble recognizing. She twined her fingers together and cracked her knuckles with a hearty chuckle.

"About time," she muttered and her mouth spilled into a wayward grin.

Edited! my bad, it was late?)) Rakki had been working durring the pinging, but as they sounded he had scurried around and cleaning the fur from the oil, dirt, and other materials locked in his fur, slowly brushing it out as he sighed at the oil.

"Ill have to get the oil out later..." A soft sigh coming from him before he took off for B deck to join the rest of the crew, though of courseh is small legs probly gaurenteeing he will be the last one to B deck.

The lone antigrav cycle came roaring through the space center, repulors making a shrill squeal as they took a corner at too high a speed. The helmeted figure pushed the antigravs into a jump, and the cycle obediently leapt into one of the few cargo bay doors that had been left open for supplies.

Into the bowels of the ship he flew, almost knocking over several crewmen, but always swerving away at the last moment. Those he encountered we sure the rider must be insane.

Finally, he reached his destination, the gathering of officers. He came screeching to a halt, removed his helmet and saluted the Captain.

Dr. Ian Blackthorne, Science Advisor and Second in Command, reporting!

As the new liquid that was introduced wore off on zeravah a feeling of amazment filled him.
"This, THIS is like nothing I have ever seen before."
Knowing this made the zerg threat miniscule to the posiblities of his new found technology.
"This is far beyond our warp technology." He said massively grinning at the screen.
"This is meant for kings, we could find a cure for literally everything."
Concerns still rose for the protoss, knowing that where he is going problems are going to be on a much greater scale then as before.
"This only means one thing, Time to get to work, we need to be prepared for anything."
:Click click click: zeravah starts working vigerasly:
:Barams Voice:
"RIGHT" he said glaring at the door, "I'm LATE!!" Zeravah quickly left his new room and headed streight for the breifing on what would be his most important journey yet.

Ian's hurried movements caused rather agitation with the crew he nearly ran over, a few yelling out after him as they sprang out of the way of his path. "Watch where your going!!" or "Incoming!" but other then that the crew was mostly intact, besides a slight risk of losing people do to the possible hit and run scenario that was offered by the ships lovely Ian Blackthorne.. Some dropped tools or other items in a slight panic for their own safety.

Rakki himself was moving up into B deck and taking his position inside with a few key members of his respective personnel discussing rather necessity's routine, maintenance as well as a effective schedule for them to flow effectively. His main priority for this single take off was to make sure and ensure everything was optimal and ready, but even so.. It would need to be monitored and maintained.

He had normally planed on setting up two shifts based on a twelve hour basis but noted to himself it could become stressful... Stretching his men out on three different shifts setting at eight hours a shift would be less stressful but also means things would be fixed, updated, and monitored in a longer time stream, so he figured ten hours shifts would work best... Two of the shifts interlacing and still giving a few hours of free time for the crew that wished to relax..

After this was settled he turned his gaze toward the captain, now it was only time to wait.....

She had distracted herself by whistling a pretty tune. She was anxious and bored and those buttons were so very shiny. Ian was smiled at. She was used to all of the loony tune-age that the universe had to offer. Made her comfortable, somehow. Besides; sweet ride, alright in the looks department. Her kinda fellow. Then, following Rakki's lead, she too looked to ol' Cap.

"When we gonna put this bird into the sky?"

It seemed like it had been forever since she had joined the crew, though in truth it only been days. Terribly sober days. She cracked her knuckles and scratched at her bare stomach, a sure sign that she felt like she was home. She couldn't wait to fly again.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam

Buram, from his spot on the stage, looked over the gathered crew as they lined themselves up on B Deck. Soon, the entire rec zone was full, and the Captain nodded approvingly at the mass of 78, blue-colored, brave men and women, daring to go where no Rhydinite had ever gone before in all its long history. At last, a means of escape from Nexus and strife that were ways of life in the hectic city where literally anything was possible.

And even more will be possible now.

In the deep voice distinguishable to his people, the Captain of the Nexus Traveler spoke.

"For the last time, welcome aboard, crew and officers of the Nexus Traveler. Before I brief you, I would like to extend my whole-hearted thanks. It is not an easy thing to depart the world you know to delve into regions of space that can only be seen through a telescope, or a scrying bowl if you're good with it.

"Many of you might be wondering: 'It's been days now. When are we launching, and where are we going?' I can tell you now that there is a mission for us, rather routine, but important nevertheless. Day after tomorrow, we launch for the first time. Our destination is the system of Carix X."

A giant screen proceeded to roll down behind the captain, who strode to the side of the stage to offer a clear view as the lights of the rec hall dimmed. A hologram was then projected onto the screen, showing a galactic map of the local galaxy Rhy'Din was located in. A certain sector of space was zoomed in as Buram continued to speak.

"This is the Rhy'Din system, Sector 1. Our maiden voyage will carry us here..." The map zoomed out then and the destination marked with a green flag. "To Sector 14. Carix X contains two suns, Icron and Sulfron, that hold four planets in a dual orbit: Ariacius, Sharroon, MX-5, and Doorax, a gas giant. This system is approximately 30 light years away. Carix X also contains an indigenous species: the Yordle, one of whom is our Master Engineer, Commander Rakki.

"The system contains resource deposits, and scientific, primarily technological and biological, specimens of unique interest. Our mission is simple: Make contact with the Yordle leadership core, which will occur on Bandle City, the space station above Sharroon that the Yordles call home; mine valuable resources, in particular the diamond deposits found under the surface of Ariacius. A secondary resource objective is the iron and titanium deposits found on the two moons of MX-5; and finally, if possible, discover the secrets of MX-5 and gather biological specimens for experimentation.

"Once we arrive at Carix X, on the borders of the system so we can approach and not appear hostile, there is a moderate pirate danger, and an Oort cloud borders the system on our approach vector. Leftenant Wheeler, Junior Leftenant Yamba, and Leftenant Commander Rithmussk, be wary of those dangers. I have also been informed that the atmosphere of Doorax is highly corrosive and therefore presents no interest to us at this current time.

"The ambassador mission on Bandle City will be run by Commanders Blackthorne, Rakki, and Loren, with a detail of about three Marines and the Lab Hands. The objectives on Ariacius will be run by Leftenant Wheeler and myself, with Commanders Rakki and Blackthorne advising. Commander Zeravah, have Medical ready for primarily burn wounds, as Ariacius is a desert planet and poses some risk from animal species. The mission to MX-5 will be run by myself, the full detail of Marines, with Commanders Blackthorne and Zeravah in attendance, along with Master Chief Hrath.

"The honorable Lord Z'ev Zayveon will also be in attendance on board as our passenger. We begin the loading tomorrow at 0800 hours. The launch itself will occur the day after at 1100 hours. Enjoy your time in Rhy'Din! We're going to space!"

The lights came on, slowly so as not to blind anybody, and the screen and image disappeared. Buram walked off the stage, and then stopped Ellie before she departed with the rest of the crew. "Leftenant Wheeler, Junior Leftenant Yamba, I must talk to you both. Come with me, please."

zeravah

"Yes Sir" Zeravah marches quickly back to the lab and gets to work.

"Burn wounds, shouldn't be to much of a problem" Burns were quite common among protoss, first the swords they use were plasma based, and the guns on some of the terran vehicles would get hot and burn soldiers trying to cut at it.

"Burn wounds should be the least of their problems due to the minor pirate threat but they shouldn't bother our vessel."

Zeravah quickly went to work, researching the planet, its inhabbitance, and how they have adapted to the harsh conditions.

ian looked back over his shoulder at the young pilot that had given him the eye. There was no time for that sort of thing now. Besides, he would need to see her later for tests to see how she could handle extended time in slipspace.

He slid back into the saddle of his grav cycle. His left leg bothered him today with a vague ache. The cycle was the only way to make it to the ship on time. He drove it as a more sedate pace this time, taking his time to say hello to the various crewpeople that replied politely back or looked at him as though he were crazy. He obviously met these latter people on the way in.

He stopped the cycle in front of his quarters and began to unload, his leg complaining to him as he put weight on it. His personal effects had already been installed in the room. The cases he carried in contained the equipment he needed to perform the upgrades to the Traveler's engines.

The ship was going to become a perfect match to its name. It would be the first to Travel the Nexus.

Rakki the yordle

Date: 2012-01-30 13:05 EST
After the meeting was complete Rakki found himself rather abundant of free time, he made his way back to his own quarters to continue his work on the MPAS, Mechanized Personal Armored Suit, the number one creation he was working on and had got running he was now seeking to construct attachments to it for a jack of all trades, military use, or perhaps his own engineering use, to give them a far better way to repair the outside hull of the ship a slight nod to each of the crew and even Ian as he walked past him.

"And so it begins! The wonderful crew of the traveler Venture into the unknown beyond... And people call me insane... Ahaha!"

He ventured down into the ship and into the engineers quarters and there it was his wonderful creation.... 85% complete with the main structure it 28% complete with the electronic communication and about 55% complete with its arsenal calibrations.

"Then again... a nap sounds nice.. or maybe i should go make a cake and wonder how many of my cousins will be happy to see me... Yay me!" he smirks and slowly pulled up a PDA and made a Audio log of the venture his own feelings that only he will know... think of it as, a journal or perhaps a diary.

Ooo. Boss man wanted to talk. Ellie quaked in her boots from the excitement of it all. Her fellow crew mates, officers and all, were all greeted with a nod as they exited, but the path to her sleeping quarters detoured right back around to the captain and she stood with her feet together and two fingers sketching out a salute in the air.

"Here at your service, Chief. Sure is swell that we're gonna be flyin' soon. Barely can contain myself, I gotta say."

She dropped any pretense of formality then and rose to her tiptoes, her dark eyes skimming around for this Yamba person. When her navigator came into view, Ellie offered her hand and sealed the deal with a shake. Both females stood side by side then and focused their attention on the captain.

"What was it that you wanted to see me about, Captain?" Asked Yamba, her own excitement better hidden than Ellie's.

Buram 'Fovemai Vadam

Date: 2012-01-31 14:04 EST
"Yes, yes, I can tell, Leftenant," the Captain said in response to Ellie as she nigh on skipped over to him. He waited until Yamba found them, then loomed in a little closer.

"Now, I cannot stress to either of you the importance of your position. I mean this when I say it, your skills together are probably the first, and last, line of defense the Traveler possesses. Our lives are in your hands. I trust the both of you to take care of all of us, but nevertheless... be careful. Navigate slowly through the Oort cloud, and in the Gods' names, don't carry us into Doorax's orbit. Also remember, the ship can make very short jumps. I would recommend using your time off to use the simulator program in the bridge to practice evasion and escape before we launch. It'll also help you, Ellie, get used to the ship's controls in the empty of space. We are much larger than your previous freighter. She will handle differently."

He then pats their shoulders and nods. "You'll do fine. See you tomorrow morning, ladies." He then walks off to enjoy his last night in Rhy'Din.

(I vote that, now that the Muster is done and the mundane has taken hold, i.e. cargo loading and final briefing from the Leftenant Commanders to their respective crews, we move over into the proper Launch topic and sort of "fast forward" to the morning of the launch. The Launch itself will be a playable, and I'm going to set up the topic and advert sometime tonight or tomorrow. What say you?)
