Chapter 1: One Hell of a Dinner Date
Norriel had been surprised to find out that his brother-in-arms and friend had ventured to Rhy-din. It would seem more and more demons and fallen from the Hell 9 realm were finding their way to the Nexus' gathering place. It had been Xaphan's suggestion they catch up over dinner and so there he stood, Avii ever at his side, waiting at the designated meeting area for the other fallen angel to arrive with whatever date he found...though Norriel doubted he would be jumping back into that pool. He would be surprised when he saw him arrive with Zynnara?s familiar face; her arm looped in Xaphan?s.
Xap was tucking a Hell flower in her hair all the while whispering sweet nothings to her and beaming like a school kid on a snow day. His grin grew at the sight of Norriel, waving to him as they neared.
The hell flower being tucked into Zynnara?s hair, along with the sweet nothings that were being whispered in her ear had her grinning widely. She, quite frankly had no clue as to who they were going to have dinner with knowing only that it was a good friend of Xaphan?s. So when she spotted the Fallen Angel, she snorted softly in disdain, and narrowed her eyes on him; She still thought of him as arrogant. Of course, her assessment of the Angel turned Demon was correct; Norriel was arrogant.
"Have you met Zynnara?" He asked, looked to Avii and gave a dispassionate grunt of greeting towards the Netheri. There saw so much of his pet in his mind each time he saw one, so his gaze didn't linger.
Avii was holding to Norriel's arm with a bit of nervousness when the other fallen arrived; The last time she had seen Xaphan he had taken her cousin as his chosen pet. The accident that had occurred those years ago, resulting in her cousin's death, caused so much grief for both Xaphan and herself, but she never expressed it openly. When his gaze looked to her then averted, her eyes turned to look to Norriel; worrying needlessly that she had done something wrong.
Norriel gave Avii?s arm a gentle and reassuring squeeze when he felt her eyes on him, knowing she was apprehensive on seeing his brother-in-arms again. His eyes slid to the exotic flower tucked in Zynnara's dark hair and gave a slight nod to her, "....We have met." He gave a similar snort snort in response to Zynnara?s but the corners of his thin lips curled up into a faint smirk, his ice blue eyes losing some of their coldness when he looked at his friend, "Does the Queen know that you are stealing from her garden, Xaphiel?" The fallen angel teased, using Xaphan?s old heavenly name.
"She does. I believe." He smirked as he looked between Zynn and Norriel at their exchange of mutual dislike. His brow rose and he chuffed a purr to Zynnara a little," Well then I suppose there's no reason for introductions." A grin grew on his lips as he looked to Zynnara," Hope you don't mind dinner with Norriel. He is my brother so to speak."
Silence becomes Avii at that moment. The pet continued to hold to Norriel's arm as the men spoke. Her eyes turning to regard Zynn before she gave a small bow of her head in greeting. Just because her moody master took minor issue with the woman didn?t automatically mean she had to as well.
"Is he now?" the warlock murmured softly to Xaph, before her eyes ticked towards Avii. Briefly, her eyes ticked over her form, before her cat-slitted eyes moved back to Norriel. "I can't truly say it's a pleasure." Mused aloud, before she rested her head against Xaph's arm lightly.
"Of course not. You were, after all, with a Demon. I do not expect your taste in company to be all-together that refined." Norriel huffed condescendingly at her, turning his attention back to Xaphan, perfectly fine with ignoring his date for the time being, "Though I suppose in being at your side, she has at least learned a thing or two and raised the bar...though, it?s not difficult to raise the bar when you start that low."
She scowled at Norriel when he said that. The look that danced across her features was one that was far from amused. Other than that, she thought it was a smarter Idea to just keep her mouth glued shut.
Xaphan's eyes rolled at those words but he grinned, he knew his brother-in-arms well enough to know he was just testing waters, " Easy Norriel, she's my companion and things are growing quite fond between us. I believe she has the right to some respect. Please, brother." He gave Zynn's arm a squeeze and a reassuring smile. Though his words were civil and polite, sounding kind and requesting, Norriel knew he was treading thin ice when it came to thinly veiled insults to the one he?d chosen and so he simply gave an annoyed sigh, nodding once, "If you insist." He muttered reluctantly before flicking his eyes back to Zynnara catching the look on her face that made him smirk, a small petty victory for having the last word for now before looking down to Avii, "You have met Zynnara, correct?"
Xap puffed proudly, happily at hearing Norriel drop his insults for now. His smile grew as he looked between Norriel and Zynn, hoping for the rest of the evening to be civil and perhaps even pleasant. It had been some time since he?d seen Norriel. When Avii was addressed, his eyes flicked to her, doing his best to keep that pleased look on his face.
Avii was looking to Zynnara, but she shook her head in response," I don't believe I've met her formally, Sin'ye." She pulled some white strands of hair from her face before her hand extended out cordially to Zynnara.
"It's a pleasure to meet you as well." Zynnara?s hand moved then, to slip into Avii's. She smiled at the other woman, as she shook her hand in greeting.
"This is Avii.? A pause before adding, ?She is mine." He clarified, then looked around the area, "Where are we eating?" The fallen angel asked then frowned, looking off at seemingly nothing as if he'd heard something.
Xap's gaze had turned to follow Norriel?s. Brows rose a little and his head tilted to the side in a curious manner before turning to Norriel. It would appear he had heard whatever it had been as well. Hesitantly dismissing it, he looked back to the girls and their exchange.
Avii was shaking Zynn's hand when she felt Norriel's gaze drift away. She spoke as she looked to where he was looking as well but only briefly, not wanting to be rude, "Well met Zynnara; I have heard about you quite a bit."
Zynnara smirked at Norriel then, though his attention was elsewhere,. "Now, now, calm your horses. You act like I'm going to run off with her into the sunset. I might not mind doing that, she're pretty enough. But I'm not one for ruining relationships." she murmured to Norriel then her eyes ticked back to Avvi for a moment, addressing her again, "You have me curious."
Norriel wasn't paying attention to Zynnara's smirk or mild taunting about taking his pet from him. His attention was still caught off to the side. His icy blue eyes scanned the dimness of the street then looked back to Xaphan with a slight shrug of his shoulders, "Hn...I thought I had...felt something." The fallen angel frowned, he wasn't often wrong, "This Rhy-din place has started playing havoc on my senses, I suppose...."
A ball of metal rolled towards the four then, catching Xaphan's attention as he was the only one whose gaze was still on the spot. His brows rose up and he whipped around, his eyes turning to Norriel, "Flash grenade!" He snatched Zynnara in his arms and buried her face against his chest as he clenched his eyes shut to shield from the light, "Zynnara, as soon as this goes off, I need you to run..." He sensed it too, Norriel hadn?t been wrong after all, they were surrounded by 'them'.
The warlock had flinched when she was grabbed and pressed closed, eyes hidden away from whatever was happening. "I ah. What?" Her words though, were muffled, due to the fact that her face was pressed against his chest.
Norriel, however, wasn't certain what to do with the call of 'flash grenade' and had closed his eyes too late, getting momentarily blinded when it burst. The fallen angel let out a shout of surprise, his palms going to his eyes to rub at the searing pain there brought on by the intense flash of light.
His companion was blinded as well, her hands shot to her eyes as she yelped out at the garish light. "Sin'ye!" She tensed in fear.
Xap released Zynnara from his arms, "Go Zynn! Go!" Just as a unit of Angels came into view. They were ready to cause another war!
