On Saturday, August 8th, at the Botanical Gardens, the Dreamchasing Foundation, in conjunction with local brewers, distillers, shiners, runners, vendors, bottlers, imbibers, sellers, and representatives, presents Booze Fest 2015!

Thanks to the generosity of Collie, we'll be once again holding Booze Fest at the Gardens.

The fountain will mark the beginning of the promenade with either side of the walk way available on a first come, first choice basis.

Colorful strings of paper lanterns will help the lamps light the way as they run from one unique booth to the next.

(Still the vendor's and attractions thread. Many, many thanks to Collie!)

Just to the south of the main square are is a rather, unordinary tilt-yard.

The grass has been reinforced through mildly magical means to keep any damage that might occur from lasting, with the tilt and counter-tilt having been set in large buckets filled with stones.

At slightly over waist height, the tilt is a simple wood rail, sanded smooth and tied to its supports with rawhide. The counter-tilt is mid-calf in height and made in much the same way.

The weapons racks, well. Where lances should be are brooms of varying manufactures. Whether its a home-strung, or factory made rough handled or shiny lacquered, brooms. For helms,. who can go wrong with a good solid, bucket?

Metal banded, wood slat, buckets. Complete with the handy-dandy handle to tuck under your chin and help keep it on your head.

For mounts, all provided at no extra charge, proud creatures one and all. Noble steeds of pitch and ivory with fire in their eyes and proud carriage and testy tempers.

The pickets are lined with them, take your pick. Austriches.

At a tad over four hundred pounds, and very close to ten foot in height, these beasts will test your mettle. And the strength in your arm. Specially made halters fit just so over their heads providing at least a modicum of control (once you actually get them moving). Saddle pads have been strapped to the backs to provide for their riders's comfort.

Come one, come all!

Try your skill at the Knight's Jest.

(Rather than a traditional joust, have a jest! Ostrich mounts, bucket helms, and broom-lances. Object of the game? Knock your opponent off his bird, while staying on yours. And getting them to move, and mind, and keep moving in the proper direction.)

Benjamin Piers

Date: 2015-07-27 18:43 EST
Benjamin once more accompanied Vladimir and Katerine Holtendirk to set up their Holtendirk's Dairy Moonshine stand.

They built a small 'shiners shack with a wide porch in the shade of a few trees, then strung out fairy lights and citronella torches. Hammocks, lounge chairs, hay bales all made good seating for those wanting to take a load off. Set here and there, banjos, mandolins, dulcimers, a fiddle, and there were washboards and jugs handy, naturally.

Star's Sippin' Liniment, plain, and Cherry Moonshine were available, along with a few new flavors: bacon, and apple pie. The booze came in mason jars or stoneware jugs.

Star, Benjamin's vanner, and a small white donkey named Polly were in attendance, and of course...

Hounds. There were twelve older hound dogs waiting to be adopted. Each was healthy, spayed or neutered, and house trained, and just waiting for a forever home.

((Just pick out any old hound you want, and you're good to go!))

While the Sassy Owl Saloon didn't brew their own booze or specialize in any particular offerings, Booze Fest was still an excellent opportunity to showcase the pub snacks that went so well with the delectable drinks offered by other booths. The Sassy Owl's usual beer offerings were available for the thirsty, including everything from local brews like Badsider, Thirsty Cross Cider, and Silvermark to imports like Guinness, Watch Man IPA, and Chaco Canyon Gold. Head chef Garrett's food line up included soft pretzel sticks with mustard or cheese, parmesan coated sweet potato fries, spiced rosemary walnuts, crunchy farfalle, mini beer-and-sausage corn dogs, and cheesesteak potato skins.

Anniston Gardens Distillery has partnered with the Alchemist's Fire to benefit the Dreamchasing Foundation.

In terms of booze, both Wolf's Bite (summer edition) and Redneck Reserve (regular and summer edition) are available for sample and purchase. Wolf's Bite is a simple 110-proof rye whiskey with corn and barley notes, in a bottle shaped like the lovely Ammy Spiritor. Redneck Reserve is a 95-proof bourbon with hints of wildflower. The summer version also includes notes of fresh blueberry. Both Redneck Reserve bottles are shaped like the lovely Miss Thorn.

There will also be Evergreen Dream clove soda available for sample and purchase. It's a simple clove soda with a touch of ginger, in a bottle shaped like the lovely Myrlene Wolf-Spiritor.

The Alchemist's Fire has also supplied a variety of sweets for the discriminating taste, including homemade butterscotch brownies, pecan and cashew caramel turtles, cinnamon snickerdoodles spiked with Red Hots candies, and pumpkin pie scones. In another bin are scrolls marked "Bottomless Mug". This spell slowly refills the drinking container with whatever drink was filling it, about ten times before reapplication is needed.

But all of these pale in comparison to the Alchemist's Fire's latest creation - Infinity Suckers. Gene Wilder, eat your heart out, as it's the lollipop that never grows smaller - it always tastes great.

A simple sign on the booth notes that all proceeds tonight benefit the Dreamchasing Foundation.
