Back Alley Promises

They were an adorable couple, really.
So overjoyed that they'd have a night out together. So attentive to each other. So, oblivious to the world around them.
It really was their fault.
If they hadn't been so, perfect, I'd've left them alone.
If they hadn't had so much spark and potential, I wouldn't have wanted to play.

They'd caught is eye in a moment of boredom. Piqued his interest when he'd been at loose ends.
The dark haired girl with her sunny laugh and cameo face. The blond man with his delicate, pretty features and wiry build.
Out for an evening. A special night planned to look spontaneous, down to the last moment. When the wandering minstrel strolled by strumming his lute. When the man went down on one knee, he cast the Sleep spell.
The people of the Market Place were, quite understandably, jumpy about strange things happening. They scattered without a backward glance at the sleeping strangers.
Later when they woke, the minstrel was so confused he didn't even wonder where his employer had gone. So embarrassed over having fallen asleep, he didn't even notice.

Those lovely fog grey eyes of hers were blurry behind lashes sticky from Sleep. The confusion in them slow to bleed into fear. The fear snapped into terror quickly enough.
Her screams were, exquisite. A lovely spine tickling sound that echoed off the stone walls of my momentary workplace. The way she strained against the leather straps that bound her to the table was so, inviting.
That her struggles and shrieks yanked herman straight into wakefulness, straight into a protective rage, only made it sweeter. Snarling and spitting he too lunged and plunged against his bonds. Thundering imprecations should I so much as lay a finger upon her.
Neither of them got it, or appreciated it, when I not only skimmed a finger up her arm, but I licked it first.
Ah well. Don't suppose I could blame them really.
"Oh god, please don't rape me!"
That, I must admit, stopped me in my tracks. Confused me for a few moments.
"Are the men of this place so weak and lacking that their bets efforts in breaking someone begins, and ends with rape?" Distaste clearly painted my voice and face as I checked their stitches.
"Not that it isn't occasionally effective. If you're pressed for time, or are just hamfisted and lazy, I'm sure it has its uses."
Perfect, they'd hold.
"But, there are much better ways to bring out the best in someone."

This time they were both wide awake and fully aware when they were moved.
Gagged for certainty, Silenced for caution, but awake when the tolling, tilt-tables they'd' been strapped to were wheeled into the alley. One of may such passageways in this particular warren in this neglected and abandoned part of the city.
If ether of them found it odd that he kept glancing at the moons overhead, they were too distracted to comment. The couple was far too busy trying to find landmarks, signs, and reassurances in each other, the Watch. Anything.
The humming, some wickedly slick tune, of their captor and his cheerily inhuman expression cilled them to the bone.
Grey eyes widened in realization, while her man's clear brown slicked with pleadings. They were going to die tonight.

"Now then. Here's the game. I'm going to loose you both at the same time. All you have to do is find help, and you'll live." Here he held up one deceptively slender finger as though in caution.
"You must find it together, must remain together. If you don't, well..."
Letting his voice trail off he lifted their shirts to tickle-tap against the new scars across their bellies. Against the rounded metal under the skin.
He paused then, thoughtfully.
"Find help and you'll live to make those wedding plans."

It was lovely watching their despair and rage surge, grow, and jockey once again.
I'd taken them before he could ask, and slipped the pitiful excuse for a token on her finger as acceptance while they slept.
"If you try for me when I loose you, you'll live the rest of your life with the screams of your belved in your ears."
With that, I let them run.
Watched as they joined hands and bolted.
When they ducked, scrambled into the first bar they came across, I laughed.

It was seedy and stank of stale beer, old puke, and fresh pss with a sweet, coppery scent overlaying it all.
One and all its patrons were deadly beautiful. Preternaturally so.
One and all the bar's patrons were vampires of a certain bree. And none of them though to look twice when two humans came rushing in.
Babbling and blubbering, my dogs were pumping off fear and adrenaline in waves. And like bitches in heat, the scent drew a crowd.
I was grinning when I pressed the detonators.
Atomized silver, crystallized sunlight, and holy water vapor, that's what my bonbs were filled with. And they tore through the crowd like hot knives through butter. Ripped open the bellies o my game pieces like paper being peeled back.

I'd said they'd live. Didn't say a damn thing about not being scarred, hopefully for life, after.
There are many more satisfying ways to break a person.
This was one of my favorites.
