King

"Oh.."

That was King's first reaction when she heard the news.

Candy lost. She was no longer the Overlord. Not only that, but she had been challenged in the first place by Rakeesh.

All of this had been unknown to King. There was no television, no news papers, no thing but human interaction and her thoughts.

Terry chose to stay within the confines of this rehabilitation center when she heard the news that she was expelled from St. Mary's.. Her first thought; she really wanted to get high.

It was why she decided, after a talk with a her counselor, that staying in rehab for the remainder of the month was the best idea - and even then it was touch and go to how she felt before the thought of being released.

And now? At this news?

She didn't know what to feel. It was a blow to her, it was a blow to her team mate -- no, it was a loss for her friend. Candy had shown her a different side of herself during her visits. She wasn't the Candy that Terry had known. She was, well, would it be strange to say she felt Candy cared about her well being?

".. Ya' already bought my loyalty, Candy.. I ain't givin' it to no one else." She had told the woman with a smile. Trying her best to play it off as a joke, though it was something serious. "So it's all official 'n junk.. ya' can tell 'em Old Market is Renegade."

".. Candy, I gotta' say this though.. I ain' gonna challenge 'em. It ain't that I'm scared. It's the shelter.. The girls need the inn.. at least 'till the shelter is finished.

Real talk.. I'd challenge if I could, but.. it ain' about jus' me anymore.."

King opened her eyes. Replaying her meeting with Candy in her mind.

Right now she was lying within bed. The blankets half covering her body, while the rest was bare to the empty world around her. One arm hung from the side of her head, while the other draped over her forehead. Green eyes looked straight up at the ceiling.

".. s'long as I'm Baron, you'll be my Overlord. Old Market's yours, boss. Wouldn't have it without you.. An' more important, it just wouldn't be the same without ya'.."

She could still recall the feeling of Candy's arm wrapping around her, and the warmth when she was drawn in. The oddity of it all when the woman's chin came to rest against the top of her head.

But, even though it was strange, it was comforting.

".. She's always been there.. like a sister.." King murmured quietly to herself. A look to the card pinched between her fingers, and the digits making up Candy's mobile phone number that were written across it.
