7/21

After the girls had finally gotten out of the Arena, after her first shift of calling, Gabby had to run several steps to catch up to King. Fingerless gloved hand grabbed ahold of the other girl?s hoodie to try to gently drag her back or at least stop her progression.

?Yo, Kingly...wait up. What?d I do? I didn? mean nothin? by it when I said that...aww don? be mad at me, wench! You still goin? to my place??

"I ain't mad.." Though she was a little mad at getting grabbed and tugged back. She had been in mid-step when it happened, and she almost lost her balance all together if it wasn't for that quick step back to keep her in place.

The teen snorted back and tugged a few times at the hoodie to fix it. "Huh?" That had her shrugging. "Yeah, plannin' to." Hands shoved themselves into hoodie pockets.

"Rememberin' someone sayin' something about body painting with glitter.. I'm not going to pass that up." Trying to hide a grin while looking away.

?You look mad...? Gabby gave her a light swat to the shoulder before stepping past her with that typical energetic gait. ?Best get o?er it or you gonna be sleepin? alone....unless Mikey decides to have mercy on ya..? Cackling a little, the girl quickened her pace.

Hearing King mention the body glitter made Gabby stop in her tracks. ?Hells yeah. I love me some glitter. I?ll let ya paint me...? King might not have seen the silly wink the girl gave before she took off again.

A few minutes later they were thumping up the rickety steps to get to the hallway leading to Gabby?s apartment. At the door, she could hear the party going on inside and rolled her eyes. ?Never a quiet moment ?round here. Wanna come in and hang out or go throw rocks and drink our bottle? We can body paint wherever.?

Hearing some shouting and the crashing of glass, the girl didn?t wait for King to answer but shoved the door open, yelling as she ran down the hallway, leaving that door open if King wanted to follow. ?God, Noah...if you broke my sh*t again, I swear I?mma break your face and throw you the f*ck out. Why you always gotta be such a d*ck??

Apparently Little Miss Sunshine had a less cheerful side.

That sound of shattering glass stopped Terry in her tracks. Having lit up a cigarette on the way to the apartment; the girl was pretty much forced to hold in a breath upon reaction, but let loose that smoke off to the side before speaking out. ".. He-, hey!" It wasn't much of a yell, more like a loud sort of whisper -- but Gabby was already leaving her side.

".. Dammit." She lingered in the hall. Was it the cowards way? Yes - but it kept a person safe. King began to mumble lightly to herself. Talks of not exactly liking the situation that was going on.. but, she did finally just throw down the cig, stomping down on it while she stepped, and made her way into the apartment.

In that few moments of talking to herself in the outer hallway, Gabby and Noah had already started in on one another. King would be half shoved aside as strangers came pouring from the living room into the inside hallway within the apartment, heading for the door. The sound of shouting and things crashing into the walls would meet the teen?s ears as Gabby was trying to keep Noah at bay.

?You think you are a tough girl, Gabby? That right? Hanging out with all of those tough people that like to fight...let?s see what they taught you tonight, Gabby. Did they teach you to cower in a corner like that??

King wouldn?t be able to mistake the crunching sound of a fist hitting a nose followed by deep voiced howls of pain. When the girl reached the doorway of the living room, she would see Gabby standing over Noah with an aluminum baseball bat in one hand while she flexed her other hand gingerly into a fist and open again. The worst damage to Gabby that could be seen just by looking was that her lip was busted and bleeding.

?That?s what I learned tonight, b*tch. You want s?more? Just come at me bro...bring some cause it ain? gonna take nothin? to make me teach you, for the last time, to keep YOUR F*CKIN? HANDS TO YOURSELF.? Her leg was drawn back and slammed forward into his ribs and she looked like she was about to lay into him with the bat.

"Move..!" Shoving, pushing, trying her best to get through the crowd. The second things let up and she was allowed to stumble forward -- she was in for quite a scene. The bat had her eyes growing wide. She couldn't speak or move for a few seconds - there was that moment of awe and surprise that held her back.

Swallowing back roughly, Terry ventured closer, but came to that quick stop and reeled back lightly when it looked as if Gabby was about to use that bat. Was there even a reason to stop her? King saw the damage inflicted on Gabbys face, and her insides boiled enough to just stand there and watch. Hit him - it came to mind. She wanted to see the damage. It had her heart racing a mile a minute.

Gabby should have known that Noah wasn?t out of the fight yet. She should have known it but she was riding that adrenaline high and wasn?t thinking ahead. So she wasn?t expecting it when the much larger Noah barrelled into her legs with all of the force he could muster and drove her into the wall, knocking the air from her lungs. He loosened enough that she was sliding down the wall before his foot met her stomach. ?You gonna teach me now, Gabby? C?mon baby...get your bad a** up and teach me something!?

Reaching down, his hand entangled into her hair to drag her up again. Before he could land another hit on her, the bat that had miraculously not dropped from her hand, was being smacked wildly at him until he let go to put his guard up. He made the mistake of giving her enough space to dart around him then she turned and swung towards him with as much force as she could muster. Luckily for Noah, Gabby didn?t have much might, but it was enough to put him down so she could turn and run, ushering King out with her. ?Run run run.? The girl stopped long enough to grab a couple of extra large duffle bags from beneath the couch and then she was running down the hallway and out the door.

?We gotta go to the cops, King.? Says the girl holding enough drugs to get herself thrown into prison for the rest of her young life.

".. Oh sh*t.." said Terry. It's all she could say as that bat swung to strike Noah. Maybe she was paying a little too much attention watching him there on the ground, but Gabby caught her attention easy enough when she came rushing over. Run, run, run. She said.. and King? She wouldn't disagree with that.

"Y.. yeah." Nodding her head. Pushed along, through the onlooking crowd. Bumping into a few others, but bumping turned into more like shoulder-shoving before the crowd moved enough to give them easy enough access through. King might of even had a few feet on Gabby - the door was her first thought, but she turned quickly and spotted the bags, then looked up at the girls face; then she was on the run once more, keeping in step with Gabby. "Ayo, gimme those and you make the call!" A paranoid and somewhat frantic look over her shoulder every now and then. She knew what was in the bag - so of course she thought it wouldn't be over this quickly.

When they were a couple of blocks from the apartment, Gabby tossed the bags down and leaned over with her palms pressed to her thighs, gasping for air. ?Holy sh*t. When he gets up, he gonna come for me. I gotta go to the cops in person so they can see the marks or they gonna go in there and see his face and think he did it in self defense.? She was nodding at her own words.

?You comin? with me to back up my story?? Though she wasn?t quite sure what to do with the duffel bags since she couldn?t exactly take them into the police station with her.

?Sh*t, girl. What?d I do that for?? Gabby finally straightened and was looking around, paranoid that someone was already coming for them.

King on the other hand was coughing when she came to a stop. Back of her wrist pressed roughly against her lips while opposite hand propped against bent knee while she continued to cough. ".. Ugh." Snorting back, taking in a quick intake of air, then looking to the other girl. ".. In person?" There was a groan. She couldn't help it. Not with the bags she -- and now King included, `stole`.

When Gabby asked if she'd come, King fell silent. Everything in her mind was telling her no - but that beaten, yet still somehow sweet face pulled her in a different direction. ".. Yeah, I'm comin'." she said while nodding. King then closed her eyes and took in and let loose a few more deep breaths.

"Hey, hey.." She'd finally say while straightening up. The tanned girl stepped closer and reached out, looking to take Gabby into those arms for a hug. "Calm down, alright..? He got what was comin'."

Gabby breathed out a sigh of relief when King agreed to go with her, not because she had doubted the girl would, but because maybe everything was going to be okay. She was still paranoid, on the verge of shedding a few tears as the weight of reality bore down upon her but then there was King, offering her that strength that Gabby admired her so much for.

Gabby burrowed against the other girl?s shoulder as her arms slipped around King?s waist and raised so that her palms were flat against her shoulder blades. ?Kingly, I think I broke my hand on his nose...? she whined, as if there weren?t bigger problems to worry about.

"Kisss the booboo!"

"You sure..? Pretty sure the crack I heard was his nose.." King said in perhaps the smallest attempt to bring some humor into something that could be the farthest from it. While one arm wrapped about her shoulders, the other rose up to press a palm against the back of her head. Fingers brushing through short strands of hair while she just held her for the time being.

"Eh..? Kiss it?" She leaned away. Taking a better look at her. ".. Alright, let me see."

Gabby was more than happy to have someone interject some humor, she preferred to laugh than to be that violent person she had been in her apartment. She giggled against King?s shoulder and relaxed against her with a sigh.

?Yeah, I?m sure. It hurrrrts!? Her gloved left hand slid slowly down King?s back then was brought up so she could inspect it, though Gabby was pouting a little at the separation from that spot of comfort she had taken up.

There was a small sniff back of a snort then. Looking to inspect the hand - all while making sure to do it as careful as possible. She took hold of her wrist, and then brought up a hand to gently feel about that gloved hand. The first sign of wincing or anything of the sort got her to stop, and so she'd instead lean forward to press lips for the softest of kisses to the hurt hand. Not only that, she'd guide it away by the wrist and press those lips to that poor beaten face for a kiss to the cheek.

"There.." King leaned away then. A glance over her shoulder, then setting sights back on Gabby. ".. Keep it up." Still holding onto that wrist, she'd raise it up some to show Gabby what she meant. "I'll carry the bags.. there's a park around here, we can ditch them in some bushes and come back later."

?Awww, Kinnnng~! You aren?t so tough after all, are ya?? Giggling a little after that cheek kiss. Gabby wasn?t overly accustomed to affection without a price, so King just being nice had the other girl?s spirits a little higher. When King leaned away and looked over her shoulder, Gabby ducked her head in to kiss her cheek in return. ?Thanks for not leavin? me back there. You are nuts for it, but thanks.?

Gabby

She nodded and kept her hand raised up like King showed her then frowned. ?Do you have any idea how much money is in those bags? What if someone finds ?em? We?ll lose our money!? It had never occurred, not even for a moment, that she wouldn?t share the money with King once she found some way to sell the drugs.

".. Friends stay together." Yes, using the F word. Head tilting lightly in reaction to the kiss, just so she could turn to face and grant the girl the smallest of sidelooks. A curling of those lips to show off a tiny grin, but it left her soon enough as the conversation went on.

"Ou--." She nearly choked. There were a few coughs, followed by a sort of `ahem`. King swallowed back roughly and tried to get the thought of money out of her mind. So much money could be made with these bags.. So, so much money -- yet there was also a problem with that: Noah.

.. but this was money. Enough money could change anyones mind.

"It's either that or take 'em with us to the cops.. and, well.. yanno - that's not gonna happen.." There was a sigh then. ".. Trust me, the park'll be fine. It's dark right now, just pass and drop 'em.. Unless you want me to meet you back at the station." King tried to think how long it'd take her to get back to the dorms.. With running, it was possible. But -- the thought of getting caught by the Nuns was there as well. ".. It's up to you." She couldn't believe she was saying that. ".. But we shouldn't stay here any longer."

?Friends...? Gabby?s smile blossomed until she winced a little from her busted lip. ?I like that. S?all official and stuff now.?

She nearly cackled at King?s reaction to her plan to share the money with her. ?Yes, ours. You are just involved as I am especially when you find people to sell it to. I can?t sell it to the people I know because they all know him too. He is gonna be expectin? me to do that.? She pondered this for a few moments until King directed her attention back to the present situation.

?OKay, the park...you ain? lying? ?bout us not stayin? here..? She turned around, without further ado, and began walking again.

Ours. It was still somewhat odd to think about. Bags full of drugs.. not just Gabbys -- but hers as well. There was a small pause in her step though when she realized something. you find people to sell it to. - she'd be selling it? Deeper and deeper into the rabbithole. The situation becoming more of a threat. Gabby couldn't sell them, that was right.. They could easily make a connection -- but Terry? She had her own people. The school.. places around it, other people she knew. Jamie came to mind as well, that girl could easily sell..

.. but that would have her be brought into the cut as well.

King, in a moment of selfishness, thought it'd be out of the question. She wouldn't speak of it. The girl shook her head instead to shake off the thoughts and followed behind her. Reaching over to scoop up those bags and carry them on her way.

"Yeah.." There was a nervous sort of smile that found her face. "Let's go."

The next day--7/22

G writes a note to Gabby including a bottle of cherry rum and a box of chocolates. The note says "Dear Gabby, Welcome to the employment of the Arena. As the person in charge, feel free to come to me with any questions or problems whatsoever, and I will do my best to take care of them for you. -- G" He then had one of the boys send it off to her.

When the boy showed up at her apartment, Gabby answered the door, blinking sleepily and pushing her hair out of her eyes. ?Hmmwhat? From who?? The boy said G's name again and the girl just shrugged. ?I dunno a G'nort or G. Maybe you got the wrong address, kid? Be careful on this end of town by yourself.?

She was getting ready to shut the door when the kid stuck his foot between it and the door jam. ?No lady, I can't leave without giving you this. The boss has this scary ass assistant...please don't get me eaten.? It was those imploring eyes that made the girl stop and usher the kid inside, her heart was bigger than her common sense usually. ?First off, yo...you gotta stop cursin' like that. Betcha parents gotta beat on you for that sh*t.?

She took the note and opened it, brows arching skyward as she read it. ?So the boss man is named G. Oookay, I got it now. He is so so so sweet. Kinda cute too for an old dude.? She pointed at the kid before starting to open the package. ?Don' you be tellin' him I said that either, kid.? The wrapping came off and Gabby just sat there and grinned like the little loon she was. ?Oh hell yeah...I love my job?.

Looks back at the kid, who is looking around the ruined room, and grins. ?So, were you told to wait for a response?? Moves over to a messy table filled with paints and charcoal pencils and picks one up. Scrawls on the back of the wrapping paper from the chocolates.

?You are the most awesome boss EVAR! I have some questions, I'll be at Break Time pool hall in about an hour. If you can find it, you can buy me a drink.
<3<3 ~Gabby~<3<3?

The kid returned back about 15-20 minutes after delivery, and G was still at the Arena when he arrived. "Well, I wasn't expecting so quick a response." The boy just shrugged and handed the note to him and waited for a tip, which caused G to roll his eyes and pull out a few silver, which was more than the kid had expected.

"The girl said some things, too, that she loved her job and.. you were sweet and generous." Which was added by the boy himself. "Oh, and that you were pretty hot. If you don't mind me sayin' so sir, I think you got a chance." The boy chuckled and waggled his brows before G sent him off.

G read the note and chuckled, thinking about what the boy said. But, he did have a bit of free time this afternoon. Why not have some leisure time. Buy the girl a drink and answer her questions. May be relaxing. So, he stopped what he was doing, left the Arena after locking the offices, stuck his hands in his pockets and wandered casually towards this Pool Hall. Which he needed to get directions to, first.

When he finally arrived and walked through the door of Break Time, G would see a long bar directly to the left of the centralized walkway. There was plenty of space for tables and then neat rows of pool tables to the right of the massive room. The air was smoky and the music was loud. The general feel of the place was fun and upbeat, however. It was nicely furnished and everything was clean and in good working order, despite the rough clientele that frequented the place.

G would see Gabby with a round tray balanced on one of her hands, above the height of her shoulder, filled with beer bottles and a couple of plates of bar food. The barely there jean skirt was tattered and frayed along the hemline and reached just past the curve of her rear end. A pair of black leggings that ended just below the knee kept the goodies covered from all of those eyes that were seriously trying to catch a peek. Loose black tank top was pulled up and tied just under her ribcage, pulled over a sports bra, with the words Break Time -- We Break Balls written in bold white lettering. That colorful tatt and piercing were on full display upon her athletically toned torso.

Over the music and general din of roughneck bikers and a few other types, Gabby could be heard half shouting, in her sweet singsong voice, "Yo, Marty. Got your burger and beer. Quitcha bitchin' and hold up a sec!" To which the scary man that towered over a foot taller than the girl laughed heartily. "Gabbs, when you gonna marry me, babe?" She shook her head, laughing, and G wouldn't be able to hear the rest of the conversation as she was now at Marty's table whispering in his ear and ruffling his hair before turning around to leave. Whatever she had said had caused the roughneck to look completely demure, which was curious considering Gabby had continued to smile as sweet as pie while she had spoken to him.

Welcome to Gabby's second job!

This was definitely not one of the places G would normally visit. The darker atmosphere of the inside causing him to take a few moments to let his eyes adjust to the change. At any rate, he was probably too overdressed for this kind of establishment. He chuckled softly, and made his way inside, letting the door close behind him.

It didn't take long for him to spy Gabby as she waited on tables, it was probably a late lunch crowd that was keeping her busy enough, so he just stood and waited a moment while he decided whether or not to take a seat by the bar or wait to be seated.

He couldn't help but notice the way she was dressed, and it reminded him of when she backed into him the previous night. He was quick to shake that image out of his head, this was supposed to be a relaxing business meeting, in a manner of speaking. Then he watched her tame the rough looking biker type fellow who asked her to marry him. Such talents like that would undoubtedly be useful in the atmosphere of the Arena.

Finally, he tugged on his vest and moved to sit by the bar, taking a sideways seat on the stool there, one arm resting on the bartop as he waited for her to either notice him, or approach the bar for some reason so he could get her attention. The bartender approached him to ask what he wanted, but G just held a hand up as if to tell him to please wait with a charming smile.

After making her rounds to deliver all of those drinks and collect the money, a good portion of that being in tips that the customers stuffed into the apron tied around her waist. Not one of them attempted anything inappropriate and didn't make it appear like they were tucking dollar bills into a stripper's g-string. They were just making sure Gabby got her tip while her hands were full serving their drinks and clearing their tables in that ultra efficient manner that she always employed. She would offer a sweet smile and even a hug, at times, as she walked about the room.

Finally making her way back to the bar, having earned herself a little break, the girl made the motion of drinking to the bartender and he immediately had her glass of cherry rum sliding the short distance across the bar. Tip money was fished from her apron and deposited upon the bar to which the bartender shook his head, laughing. They went through this routine every day that she worked. She was a bit of a klepto in other places, but she was an honest employee for the most part. Finally she blew him a kiss. "You know I love you the most, Moe, don'thca?" The cash was lifted and then shoved into his tip jar with a wink.

Once this game was over, Moe pointed to the proper looking G'nort seated at the end of the bar. "Jus' like ye said, girl, he showed up. Snazzy man ye got yeself." She waved a hand dismissively and blew the old man a kiss. " I only got eyes for you, Moe." But she stood and moved down to where G sat, plopping down onto the barstool next to his, sitting sideways as well so that she could face him. One of her feet met the rungs of his barstool closest to the bar and the other was placed between his feet so that her knee was just between his.

"Want a drink, Boss?"

There were quite a few pairs of eyes inspecting Gabby and the well dressed man. She was just a little wisp of a thing after all, though not a single one of those full grown men would -ever- dream of saying such a thing to her.

Probably for the better right now that he didn't hear dear Moe say that Gabby had a snazzy man. That might have ended up making G feel a little uncomfortable. As it was, he didn't and he smiled as she approached him, sitting across with her knee between his.

He was aware of the looks he was suddenly getting. You don't become who he is without being totally conscious of the eyes of others, as well as the change in the atmosphere of a place when they notice an outsider with one of theirs, however innocent it may be. He took a moment to smile at her before turning his gaze to the back of the bar where all the bottles were.

"Well, I thought the deal was that I buy you a drink, but, if you're insisting, then certainly. " He thinks about his choices for a moment, doubting they have what he's become used to of late, the wine of cognac. So, perhaps something just as good. "If there's a good scotch back there, I wouldn't say no to it."

He turns to face Gabby again, energized a bit by her enthusiasm and cheerfulness. "So, you had questions?"

Gabby

In Gabby?s defense, she had forgotten to tell Moe that her other boss was showing up. She had just told him to watch out for a well dressed, red haired man so that nothing would happen to him. Moe had just spoken out of hope that Gabby had gotten rid of Noah and had found someone a little less...Noah-like. Since G hadn?t heard the exchange, then all was well.

?You are gonna buy me a drink. I was just doin? my job here, tryin? to get you to buy the booze.? She suddenly stood up on the rungs of the barstool and leaned way over the bar to try to look beneath the counter. Of course, this was quite a precarious position and had the bartender rushing over, chastising her like a father would. ?Goin? tae break ye fool neck, darlin? girl. What ye needin? tha? ye can? ask me fer??

?Where is Donnie?s good stuff, Moe? My boss is wantin? some.? Moe looked G over for a moment before grabbing a bottle directly under where Gabby was sprawled over the bar. Apparently she had known exactly where it was. A tumbler was filled as the girl slipped backwards off of the bar and resumed her seating arrangements while tugging down her tank top so that it was resting at her ribcage again. She tapped a fingertip upon the rim of her nearly empty glass to indicate that Moe should refill. Both glasses were placed before them and Moe moved away so the two could talk.

G might be surprised to find that ?Donnie?s good stuff? was actually exquisite. The man might own a biker hangout, among other things, but he owned a very busy biker hangout and his profit margins were the stuff all businessmen dreamed of. He could afford this and afford to leave it out in the open behind the bar.

?Yeah, I got some questions. You...uh..you said if I had any problems I could come to you? I got a big problem, really and nobody to help me out. I can?t go to Donnie or Moe or none of these guys or somebody gonna go to jail. Since you don? know me and therefore don? love me...maybe you can help me out??

He leaned back quickly enough as she jumped up to lean over the counter. Of course, the precarious position left him with a good view of her backside, but at the moment it was more of a 'Should I hold her so she doesn't fall over' sort of view to him. As it was, her feet were up in the air high enough, at that, so he could have grabbed one of her ankles.

Apparently, though, it was in search of a good drink that she was in search of. Of course, when she called him her boss, the look Moe gave him was a rather curious one. He filled the tumbler as she slid back down into her seat and rearranged herself in the previous position. He waited patiently for both glasses to be filled and the tender moved away. He took his and rolled it around in the glass for a few moments before saying anything. He took a slow sip, and was pleased to find that for a dive such as this, there was a good drink to be found here.

He smiled and leans back against the bar, looking her over appraisingly as she started to her list of people she couldn't go to. He was judging how much help he should be to the girl.

It was curious that she was asking him for help, while in the same breath saying that he doesn't know or love her. What does either of those have to do with him helping an employee? He was, after all, reasonable, and let's face it, he has an extremely soft spot and weakness for young, attractive women. If there was a failing in him, it'd be that. 'What a sexist pig sometimes.' he snorted to himself. But then, he agreed with it, so he immediately was okay with that. So he smiled and waited for her to finish.

"All right. You have me curious. What kind of help is it you're requiring?"

Gabby

Date: 2012-10-07 16:54 EST
Well, either of those things had to do with the fact that he wouldn?t try to kill the object of this problem like the other people she listed would do.

?Well, I have a problem at home. It?sa pretty bad thing goin? on and while normally I can handle myself pretty well, I don? think this time I need to be aroun? to find out.? Her lower lip was pulled beneath her top row of teeth and held there against the lip ring as she tried to decide how much she should tell him. In the end, common sense ruled because she really needed his help.

?I like...might have put my boyfriend in jail but he ain? gonna be there for too long and when he gets out, I think he?s gonna kill me. I mean, he?ll settle down soonish, I think ...but for a couple of days I need to not be ?round my place. I can? stay here cause he knows this place and Donnie done told him he?d kill him next time he came ?round.?

Those large, pale blue eyes had widened considerably during this story and she was shaking her head now. ?Noah don? have no sense atall when he is usin? and if he thinks I?m here, he?ll come for me. Donnie got people that?ll take care of him. Know what I mean??

Nearly all of that glass of cherry rum was swallowed in one drink before she sat the glass upon the bar then licked a few drops from her lips before continuing. ?So, I need a place to stay for a few days. I?mma go to the casino with Kingly for two days and by that time, Noah?ll be out. Can I stay at the Arena and sleep on that couch? He knows I work there now but I dunno that he can get in or not. I just need to be someplace safe for a few days.?

It was a risky plan, staying someplace Noah knew about, but she hadn?t considered that she could ask her new boss for more than being able to sleep on the couch in the Arena.

That sweet almost- innocence that everyone saw was genuine and right now that vulnerability was quite visible in her eyes and the nervous way she nibbled at her lip. If G looked closely enough, he would be able to see the results of her fight last night with Noah, covered by her makeup.

He listened to her silently, taking a couple sips from his glass as she kept going on. Most of it was a bit beyond him, rambling in such a way that he didn't precisely understand word for word what she was saying. Mainly, he got that her boyfriend was in jail, she put him there, he was getting out in a couple days and that she needed to be scarce for a bit. He nodded seriously as he listened, absorbing these little details.

She needed a place to stay. This was the curious point. She wanted to stay in the Arena and that was okay, but.. "Well, I have no trouble if you want to spend time in the Arena. I even have a cot in my office there for if I need to work late nights. However, the Arena is a public place. This means that anyone can go into it at any time. I'm not sure just how safe it may be for you."

He hadn't been entirely sure about any marks on her. He had mostly assumed that it was some sort of makeup styling or whatever the cool goth and emo kids were playing at these days. Now, with how she looked and acted, and with what she said, he had a better idea of things. He loathed abusers, not as much as slavers, but they weren't much better. He thought about it more.

"There may be a better option. I'm a rather well known businessman. One of my businesses happens to be a Tavern that's usually got some pretty trustworthy employees. Well, maybe not Beni, but the rest are good. I could rent you a room there, cheap. *IF* you could keep it clean there. As little shenanigans as possible. Nothing more than drinking. Then we could see where to go from there."

She nearly blanched when she heard him say that anyone could come and go at any time and that she wouldn?t be safe there. Staying at the Arena had been her last choice, not something she wanted to do but something she had to do. Her spirits sank visibly, that usual sunshiney demeanor all but gone....until he mentioned a better option.

?Keep it clean with nothing more than drinkin?? Mister G...I dunno what kinda idea you got ?bout me but I don?t do drugs. I cleaned up last year.? Not that she felt that was any of his business but if she were asking him for help, she wanted to be sure he saw her for who she really was and not have some wrong judgement about her, due to her appearance, before she even stepped foot into the room he would rent her.

"Well, I was more referring to those who you seem to be friends with. Since I was standing by you guys the other night, I heard a bit of what King was asking for. I got the hint, anyway. Still, if you're clean, that's good. It'll be less for me to worry about." He nods, taking another sip. He could tell this was important to her by how nervous she seemed about the whole thing.

He leaned back a moment and ran his hand over his chin as he thought more about it. Then nodded. "Yes, a room at the tavern would probably be best. There's always someone there and they know how to handle rowdies, just in case. I don't have much of a helpful reputation, but I can, from time to time, be a good guy."

?I?m clean, yeah and I ain? a dealer.. Kingly likes her stuff and Noah owes me money so I gave her some of what he had.?

?I won? cause trouble. I?ll keep the stuff hidden and nobody?ll know I got it. I betcha some of your tenants got secrets worse than that and just ain? told ya.? She nodded a few times and tapped at the rim of her glass again without looking back to see if Moe caught the gesture. She knew he was watching them like a hawk.

There was that smile again, consuming her features and pushing away the strain of her worries. Leaning forward rapidly, she grabbed his face with one hand and planted a chaste kiss, right on the mouth.

?You are seriously my knight in shining armor right now, boss man. You prolly just saved my life for a few more days. I dunno how I can repay you but I wanna do somethin?. Paying for the room ain? enough.?

Moe refilled Gabby?s glass and gestured to G?s, brows raised in question.

He reached up and traced a finger over where she kissed him, thoughtfully and politely not making too big a deal out of it, and giving her a smile while he licked the tip of his finger a moment. The surprise from the initial grab had passed and he had recognized it as a sensation of gratitude. Still, He'd think about that one a bit later.

He held his hand out with the glass to allow Moe to refill the glass. He gives the tender a smile as he does that and then brings the glass to his lips to sip and gives her a smile. He was glad about the reassurance that there wouldn't be any trouble caused, but still he was still a little concerned about that. If a guy wanted to look for his girlfriend, usually they found a way to get to them. The Tavern was as good a place as any for her, though, given that not too many used it often.

He was questioning one thing. "How can pay for the room not be enough? That's all that anyone who rents a room there does. They come in, ask for a room, get the rates, get a key, go to their room and rest." He chuckles and swivels back and forth on the stool, flashing his eyes at her again.

"Still.. " He thinks for a moment. "Nah, don't worry about anything extra. At least not yet."

Moe noticed that Gabby had kissed the guy was still smiling so had decided the stranger was alright for now. Thus he received a nod and the bottle was left next to the glass. G might find it curious that he didn?t do the same for Gabby.

?I doubt anyone that just rents a room is asking for a favor when they rent it, like I am. Asking for the protection and safety of your establishment..? She shrugged a little.

"Not often, no. But it has been done before. So, ahh, it's not unheard of." He grinned. The thought of her being in the GIT, perhaps there could be something she could do for him, but he shook that idea right out of his head, he was committed and this was an act of kindness. He gave her a polite smile once more.

He didn't think much of the fact that the bottle wasn't left for Gabby, as for him, two drinks was enough for him and he appreciated the gesture of the bottle, but would not go for any more. He gave a nod to Moe, and returned his gaze upon the girl. "Well, Perhaps later we can work something out, or we can just say you owe me one. Either way, we'll be sure you're as safe as we can make you, and if, in the Arena, you need help, then you'll get it there, too."

She nodded lightly, giving a frown to Moe. She knew why he wouldn't leave the bottle...they had all been watching how much she drank ever since she quit using, afraid she would substitute one for the other...which she had, really.

"I'll owe you one. But what if you ain' at the arena if he shows up...how'll I get help?"

"Well, you'll be calling for a shift, you'll hardly be alone, even if I am not there. I have no doubt that other patrons of the Arena will help you. Otherwise, anyone who breaks the sanctity of the unspoken rule of protection in the Arena will face a hell of which they hath no idea. I take it very seriously that nothing, especially not slavery or abuse, occurs outside of those rings. So, if he has a problem with you, he needs to take it in the ring, or through legal issues. For as long as you're in the Arena or the Ivy, you should be protected."

He finished off his drink and set the glass next to the bottle. "Of course, I could always lend you a dagger, or find out where you can get a hold of one of those 'fire-arms' I hear so much about. Surely you know how to use one of those." He chuckles. Apparently his opinion of people who might have used drugs or work in a place like this, he would assume that they all knew how to use weapons of a sort.

?I do not know how to use one of those firearms, no. I prefer not to touch those distasteful things.?

As for the place she worked...it was clean, there were no fights, and it wasn?t rowdy. The Arena had more riff-raff than Break Time. Of course, if the appearances of the clientele were what the place was judged by...then the establishment could definitely be called a dive, regardless of how nice the pool tables, bar, and other furnishings were.

?I can prolly play around with some weapons with King and figure out what I like. Thanks, though.?

He nods, understanding how she wouldn't want to use a gun. He disliked them, too, and they feel like cheating to him. Where was the sport in firing a weapon from a distance? No, he preferred the in close and personal form of violence if need be. "I recommend brass knuckles, a knife of some sort, or pepper spray. Pepper spray works wonders, trust me." He chuckles, not going into details with that.

"So, when should I set up a time to have you come in and get your room, do you have a room number you prefer? They're air conditioned, thanks to the freezer and what's in there. And any other arrangements you may need?" He smiled at her with one of his more disarming, trust inducing smiles as he set the glass down. He also took a look around the place they were at.

"This seems cozy. Nice, and.. homely. I bet they have good burgers." He wasn't above a good burger, that's for sure. "How long have you been working here?"

Gabby

She nodded as he spoke of the different types of weapons and filed the information away for later use.

Nibbling at her lip ring while she tried to think of when she would be back to get her room, she reached for the empty glass and frowned. Turning to look at Moe deliberately, she opened Donnie?s bottle and poured her glass mostly full, ignoring the frown on the bartender?s face.

After a couple of sips, she smiled up at G. ?Kingly and I leave for the casino when I get off work here today and will be back Tuesday afternoon. So, I would need the room then but I sorta need to get some clothes and stuff out of the apartment before he gets out of jail. I don? s?pose you have time in a little while do you? I can prolly get Moe to lemme leave a lil earlier than usual...?

A few more drinks were taken from the glass as she listened to him talk about the bar. A little nod at the comments before replying, ?I?ve worked here in one way or another for several years. Donnie took me in as a kid when my folks passed. And yeah they got the best burgers around. Melt in your mouth. Want one??

This meeting was just full of amusement for him. At first it was just a welcome to the Arena as a caller, then the request of a favor. He watches her fill her glass up from the bottle left for him, and now, he's pretty sure he's about to be asked to help her move out most of her things. If he was a complete jerk, he would have scowled and made an excuse so as to avoid helping, but it was far too entertaining a prospect to give up.

He grins at her and takes the bottle when she finishes filling her glass and pulls it behind him so that it should be relatively out of her reach. Perhaps she thought he was going to fill his own glass? Nope. She was on drink three or four, who's counting, and she may not be a lush, but if he was going to help her out, he preferred her as sober as possible while he was doing so. Cute girl nibbling on her lip ring. Adorable.

"I have time, yes. It's early in the day and I don't have any real heavy work till Wednesday, Thursday at the latest. And as much as I would enjoy trying one of those burgers, I'm going to have to pass. I had a quick lunch on the way over. Perhaps later, though? I'm intrigued." He paused a moment, thinking about what she said about how long she worked there. "I'm.. sorry to hear about your parents. It's good to have someone who will take care of you like this.. Donnie?" He raised his brow as if to make sure he got the name correct.

?Okay, awesome. You are the best!? She hopped from the barstool and hugged him enthusiastically before downing the rest of the contents of her glass. The apron was tied low on her hips once again, drawing attention to her exposed abdomen. She was smart enough to know what got her the tips and she wasn?t above using the goods in order to make money so she could pay rent.

?So give me directions to the place and after I toss some stuff in a bag, I will meet you over there. Is there a requirement to rent the room for a full week even if I am just going to stay a couple of days and how much will I owe you? I?d like to get all of this settled as quickly as possible.?

She didn?t miss his removal of the bottle and just rolled those blue eyes at him. She was used to people trying to play father to her and they always thought if they took the bottle that would stop her from finding another one. He got a little snort for his effort before she drank half of the scotch down in one drink.

?Donnie don? take care of me. I work hard and he pays me what he would pay anyone else that did as good a job as I do. I been on my own since I was eleven. Donnie gave me a job after he found me tryin? to break into the place one night to get out of the cold. He coulda got me put in jail or sent to some home that woulda been worse than the streets but he gave me respect and showed me a better way. He?s a good man.? Regardless of his mafia connections and less than legal business dealings.

She didn?t mention these things, though she certainly knew of them, and she also didn?t mention the hell she had caused for the man as she grew up. She thought she had been on her own since she was a kid but Donnie had always been the muscle behind her independence, keeping her safe when she didn?t see him lurking around.

Fully agreeing that he is the best, of course, he chuckles and returns the hug pleasantly. Always did enjoy making new friends! He leaned back and watched as she put her apron back on, unaware that he was actually staring. He blinked and realized the trap he nearly fell into there, and shook it out of his head. He was going to have to be careful around this one. She knew how to get the right kind of attention. He could respect that and it even brought that clever, impressed grin across his mouth.

"Oh, it's been a while since I had to give directions to the Tavern. Let me think." This was actually true. For a while, there, everyone knew how to get to the GIT, it used to be one of the biggest hangouts after dueling hours, and everyone would go there for late night drinks. "Let's see, you come out of the Arena and Red Dragon and take a left along that main road and then cross that bridge into the Old Temple district. Then you take the first left after crossing it, and head down towards the end of that road. The Ivy will be on your right. I have a tower across the road, too. My assistant, Mai, knows how to get a hold of me if you ever need to. I'll leave your name with her so she knows to contact me."

He nodded, satisfied that he gave the correct directions. And don't think he didn't notice the rolling of the eyes. He figured that there was a reason she was cut off, likely cause of work. He wanted her sober for whatever he was going to help her with, though, and hey, he did send her that bottle of cherry rum, so it's not like he was that concerned about her drinking. He thought about the rate of pay and nodded. "We can work the full details out, I'm not going to break your bank, not in a situation like this. Shouldn't be more than a few silver per day."

"Donnie sounds like a good enough fellow, not having you locked up for that. It's a rare thing to have someone set you on the more honest path. Sounds a lot like me." He chuckles softly, brushing his fingers through his hair. "Just a good thing it hasn't backfired on us, eh?"

She noticed him staring and swatted at him with the bar rag that had been over her shoulder. ?Should take a picture, boss...then ya don? have to rely on your memory later. Some people your age start gettin? senile and stuff.?

Hands were placed at the curve of her waist as she listened to his directions, frowning the entire time. ?Eh, I will try not to get lost. So, if I am late or somethin? please don?t run off without lettin? me find the place and get my key. Or, if you have enough time, I can be done here in prolly fifteen and I just live a couple blocks away...? Nibbling at her lip ring again. ?You could come to my place and then walk me to that tavern. Shouldn? take me long to get my stuff together.?

She turned then, blowing him an innocent air kiss in thanks, and went back to work.

"My age? I'm thirty five! That's not old." Rather than focus on the implications of taking a picture of her, and everything that entailed, he opted to give her the feigned insulted act. After all, he wasn't -That- old. He was a good, respectable age, still with plenty of youth on his side. Of course, he has an excellent outlet for that sort of feeling.

He watched her listen and nibble on her lip again, and he had to chuckle quietly. "I have the time, yes. If it's not going to be long, then I can help out." He took it as an actual innocent suggestion. He may be a bit on guard for the server tactics of showing some skin for better tips, but she was still a girl in some trouble. He knew that what she asked him for was genuine help, the place to stay, and with some of her things.

He felt a bit saddened. She was far too young to be dealing with these sorts of problems. Did she ever have time to be a girl? To just have fun and be young? But no, she had a jerk boyfriend who didn't treat her right, lost her parents at a young age, caught committing a crime as well. Just the good fortune of a man taking pity on her saved her from a worse life. How things come to this. He shook his head as he watched her finish waiting tables. He'd help her out with what she needed. He could at least do that. He caught her eye again and smiled, blowing that return kiss, however belatedly. Hopefully his current view would change.

?Mm that?s not too old I s?pose. Experience can be good.? Gabby called from two tables over as she was leaning over it, washing the various spills away vigorously. She gave him a once over before her attention returned to her work and she was straightening everything on the table before moving to the next empty one.

?Nah, the rush is over...just gonna be a few more minutes and we can go.? She continued working methodically, taking drink orders as she cleaned up the empty tables, not bothering to write them down since she could effortlessly remember everything.

When she was done cleaning up she moved back to the bar and told Moe the orders, glancing over at G while she waited, head tilting as that ever present smile widened when he blew the belated kiss.

?If you don? wanna go to my place and wait around on me to get cleaned up and get a bag packed, you can stay here and play pool and shoot the breeze with Moe or some of the boys over there.? Pointing at a group of rough looking men that Gabby would usually refer to as teddy bears.

Moe had her tray loaded down and she was moving away, snickering good naturedly.

He couldn't help but notice the once over given, so he took the pose against the bar as if he was in a commercial or an advertisement for some sort of sophisticated product, flashing his charming smile. He watched her work, noting that there was an efficiency in which she performed her duties, quick, accurate, and well practiced. That she didn't write orders down told him that her memory was excellent. That was an admirable trait.

She had a cute smile, that much was sure. Ahh, to be that young again, too bad. Maybe he should introduce her to his son. Though he probably wouldn't take to that idea too well, as independent as he was. G smiled at her while she offered for him to stay and shoot pool or talk to Moe, yet shook his head. It might be safer to stay with her, if she was that worried about her boyfriend. Who knew who was watching her. "That's okay, I really don't mind. Besides, you can carry more with two, than you can with one."

She went off with that last tray and he turned to Moe, giving him a genial smile. "She's a pleasant girl, isn't she." Tilts his head towards her. "Think she'll be all right?"

Gabby

?I?m not gonna need ya to carry nothin?, boss. I?mma pack a bag and that?s all. Noah?ll calm down before the week is out and I can go home again. But you are the sweetest thing for bein? all gentleman like towards me.? The way she said that made it sound like she wasn?t overly used to that from someone not connected directly to her ?family.?

That question directed to the Moe earned a loud snort. ?Ye ain?t known the lass long, ?ave ye? She still be standing when th?rest o?th?world goes tae hell, she will.? Moe began wiping down the bar as he talked with G. ?Has more worries than one person should ?ave tae shoulder and she still smiles like the gods ?ave blessed her with all th?luck in th?world. Gabriella be a special lass. Goin? tae be famous someday with her paintin? too.?

The older man watched the girl fondly as he finished wiping down the bar then moved towards the kitchen.

He chuckled at her calling him sweet. He'd been called many things by people who he has only recently met, and he had to admit that he liked when he was called something positive. He especially liked the way she said it, it made him smile. "All right. I don't mind walking you, though. I can wait outside if you like. I don't play pool."

He turned back to Moe and shook his head. "No, no I don't. I've only just recently met her after she was hired to work for me. I run the Arena in the basement of the Red Dragon Inn." The way he said that was as if he practically expected Moe to have heard of him, and have something of a celebrity in his bar. "Special, yes, I can see that. She's obviously got a strength about her. And she's likable, very friendly. I bet she could make the grouchiest person crack a smile." He chuckled and gave Moe a nod as he moved to the kitchen.

He turned back to the bottle sitting on the bartop and poured another half glass, capping it and sliding it close towards where Moe could easily get it when he came back. He drank what he poured, and then pulled out a few silver to cover the tab and maybe even give a bit of a tip. Then he turned back to face the room, taking in the entire atmosphere while he waited.

Moe didn?t comment one way or the other after G spoke, just walked back to the kitchen to take care of some things while Gabby was still there.

She bounced back over to where G was standing at the bar and began fishing things out of the apron pockets that she planned to take with her then reached around behind her hips to untie the apron and set it atop the bar. ?You don? gotta wait outside. Noah trashed the place last night when we got into that fight but I?m sure you can find someplace to sit while I shower and pack.?

Counting through all of her tips, she slid a large majority of it over to rest in front of him. ?That?ll cover four days then. I won?t be there for two but I wanna hold the room. Won? no one be gettin? into my stuff when I?m gone will they??

He chuckled and indeed took the money she gave him. Nodding as he pocketed it. "That should be fine, yes. And don't worry, you can hold the room, you'll have the key. The only other person who can get in there is Maude. She does the cleaning, changed sheets, you know, housekeeping. Oh, you don't want to mess with her, though, trust me. And don't worry about her, either, as long as you don't make her mad, she's as sweet and trustworthy a person you'll find. Tough as nails, too. Just put a 'Do Not Disturb' sign on the door and she won't come in."

He smiled and slid off the stool, stretching for a moment before tugging on his shirt and vest to make sure it was all neat and proper. "I'll wait on the couch, then, that's fine. And so you know, I'm in no real hurry. We've plenty of time to get what you need and get to the Ivy."

She nodded a few times as he spoke, giving her instructions on how to avoid trouble. He stood and tried to straighten out his shirt and vest but she noticed that the line of buttons of his shirt were off kilter with the vest he wore over it so she stepped closer to try to remedy the problem. Small hands tugged at his shirt to try to realign it, favoring the left one as she tugged then straightened. Standing considerably shorter than he, at 5?1?, she had to look up to smile as she patted down his shirt. ?There. All better. It was a mess, didn? think you?d wanna walk around lookin? all askew.?

?I?m relieved to hear that there isn?t any hurry. I hate to take quick showers. And I think I might wanna take more than that bag of clothes because he is probably gonna tear my stuff up when he gets out.? She sighed heavily, shoulders slumping visibly. It was one of those things that should never happen...no clouds should ever cloud the sunshine of Gabby?s smile.

He raised a curious but amused brow as she took care of his vest and shirt, she was being motherly and it entertained him. He smiled as she spoke and patted his chest, allowing her that familiarity. It was like him to enjoy the attention he was given. He nodded and reached up to touch one hand against hers on his chest.

"Thank you. It would have been embarrassing to be out and about looking like I couldn't dress myself." He let go of her hand and continued to look back at her as her eyes widened. He slid his hand into his pocket and nodded as if he were ready to go. "I know the feeling about the shower. And it is probably best to take more than one bag, since you want the room held for you, you never know when you might need my services again."

He frowned at her sigh and slumping shoulders. It's true, no clouds belonged there. He reached out and took hold of her chin, lifting it up so he could look into her eyes and give her some encouragement. "Hey. Don't be too gloomy. Everything will work out and you have a safe backup play with the Ivy. Like I said, you can come to me with any problems."
