"So.. this is it.." King was looking at her next four years of highschool life right now. St. Mary's Catholic School for Girls. The dormitories to be exact. Room number Seventy-Two if there was a need for better detail. Terry looked from her bed at the upper right of the room. Her bed was made, her things unpacked and hanged, and only a few items had been left for her to do what she wanted with them. One of those being the bass guitar that laid within its case atop of her bed. There was no need to have more of a fit -- the whole trip here was just that, and the days leading up to it were even worse. Everything felt so finalized right now that she couldn't quite make a fuss. The Nun's didn't care, the students she passed looked at her with uncertian eyes - probably sizing her up.. and then, there was this. The final sign that she was indeed trapped here till she turned eighteen. This dorm room.

Terry wasn't the greatest sight. She was tall, thin -- and that was it. She hadn't grown into her body much and she just seemed too normal for her own good. Dressed in a simple pare of jeans and a tank top. Fall had taken over the campus, and she had worn a bright sky blue hoodie on the way in -- but that was resting against the bed that she now called her own along with other stuff. Her backpack, to name another piece. Something that was pulled from her arms and searched before she even stepped through the gates. It wouldn't be along for long. The backpack, bass, and hoodie soon gained another bed companion in the form of Terry herself. She laid flat upon it and didn't move a muscle. Too busy inside her own head and trying to think of a way to get out of this.

Call Mom and just apologize till she breaks down an'.. Nah -- tried that. and all she had gotten was hung up on from the gas station her bus had stopped at a good hour before arriving at this school.

"Hey.. you must be my new roommate."

King hadn't even noticed another person coming in. She quickly rose up and twisted her neck about to take in the sight of the blonde girl that stood within the doorway. She was pulling a cherry-red scarf from around her thin neck and placing it upon the coat rack that stood tall close by. All King seemed to notice was how beautiful it looked when it had been around her neck, and how well it complemented the girls golden blonde strands of hair. King was tongue tied in an instant. She didn't know what to do or say and just laid there half-propped up on the bed looking like a fool. Finally, when she was able to bring voice to her words, she spoke out.

"I guess?" Terry's voice rising just as high as her brows did as she let out the last sound syllable of `guess`

Yes. Smooth.

"I can't really stay long.. Swim practice is starting soon." The girl was giving her the same look the others had. Terry could see her giving her the once over before heading over to the bathroom with another folded piece of clothing in hand. The blonde grasped hold of the knob and gave it a jiggle, but it just wouldn't budge. She brought up a hand next to gently beat knuckles against the wooden door. "Hello? I need to change.." A small voice from the opposite side spoke up -- somewhat dulled by the door between them, but easy enough to hear either way. "Occupied!" The girl on the other side said. This left the blonde looking Terry's way. They locked eyes for a few seconds

"Um.." -- "Uh..." Would be their mutual words with one another.

The blonde girl finally brought up a finger and made a twirling sort of gesture with it. "Could you turn around?" She said. The way it was said almost seemed like she was pleading with Terry.

Great.. Can't get my own room, and now some blonde is bossin' me around.. She held back her tongue from mumbling out, but the thought still counted. Terry rolled her eyes, but reluctantly turned herself around to lay stomach first and facing the wall. She heard the sound of rustling clothing behind her and couldn't help but speak out. "Yanno.. I took a tour and that pool's got locker rooms, why can't you just change there?" Not sounding all that thrilled in her voice when she said that. The sound of changing stopped, but then started up once more after a pause. King rolled her eyes again. "What, not talkin' now?" An' stuck up too.. real fun. Her thoughts were then interrupted by the girls soft voice.

".. The older girls make comments.." Was all she said. King furrowed her brows and turned her head to look over her shoulder. Wondering just what type of comments this chick was talking about. "Pfft.. bout what?" Terry might of turned her head a little too early, and might of seen a little too much.

"I told you..!" The blonde quickly covered herself with an arm while pointing toward Terry. "Turn around!" Something the girl found herself doing as commanded. But not without a complaint. "I dunno what you're tryin' to hide.. I don't see nothin' worth bein' shy about. We're both girls, sh*t.." The urge to light up a cigarette was there then. It left her mind when something soft found the back of her head. Everything went sort of dark thanks to the cloth draping itself over her face. She quickly grasped at it, pulled it away from her head, and looked it over. It was the girls shirt. She threw it at her. Terry looked back with a deadpanned expression.

"What? That your way of tellin' me to shut up?" Terry said, balling up the shirt and tossing it back. It hit the girl on her stomach and fell to her feet. She sucked in a breath then, one that was released in the form of a sigh. King ruffled at her own hair while the girl stared daggers at her. ".. I ain't said it like you're ugly or nothin'.." Maybe she had. She did go for hurtness factor after being ordered to turn around, but now wasn't the time to live up to it. "I'm just sayin'... no reason to be shy." and now she was the one that felt awkward.

Terry looked away. Finding herself peering down at the shirt the girl had thrown at her. She'd tap at her thigh a few times before finally turning back around so that she could lay down again and look away. "Sorry." Just admitting defeat might just get rid of this problem anyway. The sooner the girl changed and left, the sooner she could get back to her depression about having to stay here.

"Thanks.." Came from behind. Terry wanted to look, but she pursed her lips before speaking out instead. ".. No problem.."

There was some silence between the two then. From the sound of it, the blonde girl must of went back to changing. There was a few snapping sort of sounds that followed before Terry heard her voice again. "What's your name?"

"Terry.." She said. Keeping her eyes on the wall.

"It's okay to look now.. I'm Alex." Alex said her name as Terry turned about to look at her. The blonde -- or Alex, had slipped into a one piece sort of swimwear. Terry had seen the type before, it was the kind those professional swimmers usually wore. She perked her brows at the sight and might of stared a little too long. "You could come too, if you want.." Alex must have taken her staring as maybe a form of interest into the sport. King furrowed her brows then and looked away. "Nah.. I ain't much of a swimmer.."

"What? You can't swim?" Alex giggled then. The sound of it instantly caused Terry's own lips to curl into a smile. ".. Tsk, no way. I'm a total fish in the water, girl."

"But didn't you just say you weren't much of a swimmer?" Alex said. Putting on a hoodie and zipping it up. She peered up after fumbling with the zipper and looked Terry's way. "Sounds like you don't know what you are."

Terry felt her cheeks grow a little hot out of embarrassment. Her lips parted and she looked off to the side. "Well.. I'm just sayin', I swim good.. I just don't gotta' suit, that's all."

"There's a few spare in the locker room." Alex just wouldn't let up. Terry didn't exactly feel like swimming, but she didn't just come out and say it. Excuses were what left her lips -- and now she had dug enough of a hole to make her own grave. She kept a little silent in that awkward sort of way while feeling at her bed spread. ".. Yeah, that'll work."

"Hurry up then. Practice starts in.." Alex paused only for a second to check the kitten-inspired clock that hung above her bed. "Seven minutes. We should hurry." She might have seemed shy about changing clothes in front of others, but it didn't see to stop the blonde from reaching out for Terry after taking those few steps toward her bed. Terry was grabbed by her hands and pulled off of the bed and right onto her feet. "Couch's a little cranky, but I bet she'll be happy when she sees you."

"Huh? Cranky?" Terry said, but that was between being hand-led toward the door.

"Why are you here anyway? What do your parents do for a living?" It looked like Alex ignored her question and changed the subject again. King was pulled from the dorm room itself and the door shut behind her. Alex's tugging hand pulling her down that hall, a lone girl or a group of them passing by them every now and then as they made their way across the dorms.

"Uh.. I sorta'.." -- "Sorta' what?" Alex mocked Terry's voice lightly and looked her way with a grin. "We're roommates, you need to start sharing secrets with me."

"I sorta' burnt down a house..?" There was that voice again. Along with the perking eyebrows. Alex stopped in her tracks, as did Terry. She looked to the half and half with a questioning expression "Weirdo." before giggling again "You're such a liar." only to then tug and begin leading Terry through the hall once more.

Riiight.. King thought. Liar..

Four Months Earlier / Fall of October.

?Terry? Terry. How long are you gonna stare at that thing? Don?t make me regret givin? it to you.?

In small country towns like this, there was only two things to do on a Saturday night. Either stay at home or trek your way to mainstreet and catch a show at the new theater. But when you?ve seen all the movies, there is only one option left to you. Throwing rocks at an old abandoned house. That?s exactly what Terry King did now -- and not only her.

Thirteen years old and fresh out of middle school. Entering her last four years of school life and making quick friends with a few of her upperclassmen. One of them being the pretty little number whose lap she had her head nestled against. Terry was a girl in love. She hadn?t felt so free since the moment she met this girl. Christina. Even her name felt fun to say. Her Mother called it a phase, her father didn?t say anything -- but Terry knew it was more than that. It was love, she loved this girl.

Christina was seventeen, curvy in all the right places and an attitude that only came with a body a girl knew could cause her trouble. A small mole above her right lip, straightened black hair, and green eyes that made Terry blush just looking into them. If there was one word to describe her - Terry would use badass. Badass and hers. Things might have started awkward, and at times Terry might have come off as a little too clingy or eager to fit in; but after those first few weeks she felt she was where she should be. Everything just felt right.

Terry?s fingers uncurled to release that heart-shaped pendent she wore about her neck. She had gotten it at the town carnival only a week prior. Gifted would be a better word. Terry tried her best at ring-toss and didn?t have the luck, but when Christina took her place -- it had to be a mix of skill and luck, but she had gotten enough ring?s in place to pick between three prizes. A teddy bear, a cheap looking watch, and finally the necklace that Terry had hanging about her neck.

?What? I can?t be admirin? the gift my girlfriend got me?? The way she said girlfriend, there was much feeling behind it. The feeling crept through Terry?s body and caused her to feel delighted by just mentioning it. Her tanned cheeks burned and her heart fluttered with excitement. Even more when Christina looked to her with a grin and pressed a kiss to her lips.

??till I find someone betta?.? Christina said. Adding a wink after her words. Terry flashed a smile at seeing it and reached out for Christina. Her fingers taking the back of her head to pull her back down so that they could kiss once more.

?What, you sayin? I ain?t the best? Don?t see anyone else linin? up to take you on.?

?You just ain?t lookin? hard enough. There?s tons.?

Terry wouldn?t respond with words. Instead pressing her lips back to Christina?s so that they could do the talking for her.

?You two goin? to keep that up or are we goin? to do somethin? fun?? Trevor. He was in the same grade as Christina and was her best friend. Not only him, but Aaron as well. They stood next to one another. After Trevor spoke, there was a sound of shattering glass. Terry looked their way just in time to see Aaron throwing another rock. It hit inches away from another window and instead scraped off some paint from the windowsill.

?And that?s why coach doesn?t want you pitching, dude.? Trevor laughed and reached out to punch Aaron?s shoulder. Aaron didn?t look happy about that, and Terry could spot a look of anger flash on his face. He did his best to cover it up when they caught each others eyes.

?It?s dark, you should cut ?em some slack..? Terry said.

?Yeah. I don?t see you doin? any better. How many did you need before you broke that window, huuuuh?? Christina's mouth parted wide when she lengthened that `huh`. Drawing it out in such a way to sound like she was mentally challenged. It caused a disgruntled looking Trevor to puff his cheeks before finally laughing out.

?Fine, fine.. Whateva?. Any of you got money? I?ll drive down to the gas station and pick up some beer.?

Christina didn?t seem to miss a beat and already began searching through her pockets. ?I think I gotta? few bucks on me.. An?, wait. I thought your brother got fired??

?Naaah. Uncle let ?em come back.? Trevor said as he stepped closer. His hand reaching out with the universal `gimme sign. Christina had pulled free some bills, and Terry also threw her own into the mix. It gained her another kiss from Cristina -- so she felt more than obligated to help the cause.

?Stop lookin? so pissed off over there, dude.? Trevor said to Aaron.

Aaron hadn?t spoken even a word since the other boy berated him. All he did now was stare up at the house. Terry couldn?t help but stare at him and think the whole thing was odd. She chalked it up to him being upset about being emasculated. Once Trevor left everything should be fine - that?s what she thought.

?I?ll be back in fifteen. Try and help ?em break that window.? Trevor walked past them. Another knocking punch to Aaron?s shoulders before he took the path to the cobblestone steps that lead to the driveway. The mood turned awkward and quiet with his leaving. Terry rose up from her resting against Christina and parted her lips to speak, but it was the other girl who spoke up before her.

?Hey, you shouldn?t let ?em f*ck with you like that.. Punch ?em next time.?

From what Terry could gather. Trevor was mostly a friend out of convenience. His brother worked at the gas station and they didn?t need any ID to score beer off him. He just looked the other way, took their money, and they?d be on their way. If he wasn?t there -- Christina probably wouldn?t of hung out with him. Aaron was her friend and seemed to go wherever she went, and Terry was her girlfriend. It was those circumstances that brought them to this.

?We should just burn this place down..? Aaron said. He didn?t look their way when he did. His focus seemed to be on that window he failed to break.

?It?s not the anyone?ll care or anything. No one?s lived here in years, the place is runned down to sh*t, and pops says they're plannin? on tearing it down anyway.?

Terry?s brow furrowed at the thought. ?I dunno.. couldn?t we get in trouble??

?We?d be doing them a favor.? Christina said after. A bright grin on her lips. ?I wanna do it.?

Terry sat up fully then. She looked from Christina, to Aaron, then back to the older girl with a curious expression. In all honesty - it did sound fun. She?d like to see the place lit up. She had never seen a building on fire up close before. There was television and movies, but this was different. Even though she wanted to -- there was a nagging feeling inside her head. A little voice that told her maybe she shouldn?t. It sounded alot like her mother. The voice reminded Terry that she should of called her a good thirty minutes ago. She was probably worried.

?Terry, you don?t have to if you don?t wanna.. but it?d be cool if you did.? Christina said, having noticed Terry?s silent thought.

Terry shook her head and cleared her thoughts. She pressed a palm to the grass and forced herself to stand up. ?What, I was just tryin? to think how badass it?ll look all up in flames ?n sh*t.? She grinned a mighty grin and hoped that her words of attempted acceptance worked.

Christina?s smile gave her the answer she needed.

It was easy enough to get the gas. Aaron?s truck had a few cans from his lawn mowing business he did on the weekends. Terry lingered by the entrance to the house as she watched the two older teens go about their business of splashing the floor with gasoline. Aaron seemed to be focusing more on his side of the work, but Christina seemed to be having a fun time splashing gas about here and there. On the walls, on the stairs, even on the old window drapes that caused Terry to cough out violently after patting them.

?C?mon, get your hands dirty.. Don?t wanna be a chicken, right?? Christina urged in a voice that Terry found almost hypnotic. The last thing she wanted to seen as by the girl she felt such attracted to - was a chicken. But the youngest of the group paused for a few seconds and swallowed back before finding the will to step forward.

?Ayo.. who you callin? a chicken?? A nervous smirk on Terry?s face.

One that she forced herself into creating. This was wrong, her mind was telling her that -- but at the same time, it just seemed fun. Christina was having a blast, Aaron looked to be in better spirits, and it was just an old house. It was like he said, who would miss it? It was going to be torn down anyway, so why not just give it a head start?

There was only so much left in the can after she took it. Terry stood there like a lost little puppy for a moment, but Aaron?s voice caught her attention and drew her in to look his way.

?Make a path or somethin? with it.? He up-nodded then. ?To the door.?

Terry looked from him and to the door. It might have taken her another pause to realize what he meant, but she caught on in the end. With a self-assuring nod, she went to work. Moving backwards, step by step, toward the door while frugally making a trail of gasoline before her. A trail that Christina was now stepping about, left to right side, as the younger girl worked.

?You gotta? admit. This is gonna be a blast..?

A blast, she said.

?So who?s lightin? this thing up?? Aaron looked between the two.

In his hand was a yellow plastic lighter. He held it out toward Christina then. She leaned back a little from it and raised an eyebrow. All Terry did was stare at it. The thought of lighting the fire herself was a little scary. Too much pressure. When he had looked to her after saying that, she could of swore her heart raced ten times faster. It knocked against her chest like knuckles rasping on a door. When he held it to Christina though, she felt a little better. Would she be the one to do it? For some odd reason -- Terry thought it would be cool.

?What? Wasn?t this your idea? You should be the one to light the fire.? Christina looked so happy splashing that gas around earlier. But Terry could note that right now she seemed a little scared. This was the final nail that would soon be hammered in, and it looked like none of them wanted to be the one to do it.

?Terry?? He said next. Aaron looked Terry?s way, which caught the younger girl by surprise once more. She even jumped some when her name was called.

?What?? The only word Terry could mutter past her lips.

?Yanno.. it?ll be kinda? hot if you did it.? There was that smile again. A lusty one -- one that caused Terry?s mind to be fogged. She couldn?t quite think of the bad in this situation anymore. Much like when she was urged to do her part with spreading the gasoline, she felt that seductive pull to do this as well. She wanted to be strong. She wanted to be someone Christina could rely on. She wanted to have her back because Christina had hers.

Christina wasn?t the only one watching. Aaron stood silent during this, but the lighter had been already held out toward Terry. The younger girl swallowed back roughly and reached out to take it with an unsteady hand. All she needed to do was make that flame and light everything up. An easy task, it almost took no thought at all. Just a roll of her thumb and..

She couldn?t do it. Terry stood in front of those wooden stairs that led to the entrance and was as frozen as a statue. Her chest felt tight, yet her heart was beating so fast that she didn?t quite know what was going on. The two behind her waited in silence to see what she?d do, but after a good minute passed -- it was Aaron who swiped the lighter from her hand and did what they set out to.

Terry stepped back and looked to Christina, who was already looking to her. There wasn?t a word, but she could see in the older girls eyes. She was disappointed in her. She even looked away and let out a soft click of her tongue. King looked down to her feet and grit her teeth. I couldn?t do it.. She thought. But what she really wanted to do was open her lips and speak words of apology. Sorry for being such a coward. Sorry for not being the girl -- no, woman -- she wanted to be.

The news called it arson. Of course it was, it was exactly that. But not only that -- they called it murder. A vagrant no one knew had been squatting at the house. How he didn't hear the window break, how he didn't sense the fire. Terry had no idea. It was rumored that he might of been drunk at the time, it sounded like a good enough conclusion for the girl.. but it wasn't what she worried about. She stood there and watched that fire burn without knowing that there was someone suffering, being burnt to death on the inside. It made her sick to her stomach even thinking about it. Prior to the arrest and after hearing about it on the news.. she could hardly sleep, barely eat, she wanted so much to tell her mother what happened.

A person's a person no matter how small.

A quote that she remembered from her childhood -- a childhood she was still living in. She had wanted to grow up so fast, yet this is what happened when she flew too close to the sun. Christina told her not to tell anyone. No one needed to know it was them, they weren't there. Terry hadn't seen or heard from Aaron since the news came out, but Christina told her that he was scared like the rest of them and that King needed to do her part. Keep quiet, don't tell anyone, they weren't there. It was those words that repeated in the young teens mind over and over. But the guilt was still there and it at at Terry from the inside.

You're my girl, right? Do this for me, baby..

Terry King was arrested three weeks later.

Present Day, October 2012

The soft chill of autumn was here. It came on the back of a gentle breeze and stroked across Terry?s face in such a way to cause the teen to still her steps. The feeling alone had her closing her eyes in reflection. October. A month that held memories within her her heart. Though it wasn?t the day -- it was the month that reminded her just how long she has been in the city of RhyDin. This was her fourth year. A senior at St. Mary?s Catholic School for girls. That was her life and all she should have been worrying about.. yet, school was the farthest thing from her mind when she heard that voice.

?Terry..?

She turned. Another breeze swept over her, forcing Terry to bring up a hand so that she would no longer have to squint her eyes. There was a grunt of discomfort leaving her lips at the annoyances that the wind caused, but her voice found itself frozen when she looked upon the figure that spoke her name. Her dry lips parted, attempting to make out a simple name yet they wouldn?t even form a shape to help create sound.

?Who would've thought..? The woman continued. Christina. There was no doubt about it. The small dot of a mole above her lip was a dead giveaway. She looked older, but four years could do that to a person. Her hair no longer straightened. Now curled, it looked hauntingly mature. Terry found herself trapped in the vision of it all. The light glow of a tan upon Christina?s features, the way her lips looked more full with just a touch of makeup. Everything.

But it was her lips that had the girl. Why was she so distracted by them? How they pressed to one another and gently pursed. Terry, at that second, thought the most oddest of things.

I want to kiss them..

?It?s been a long time..? Terry?s eyes grew wide when she heard that. No, not at the sound of the woman?s voice -- but at the sight of those lips moving to form them.

Why here? Why now? So many questions came to Terry?s mind. But all of them paled in comparison to the lips that acted as a siren on the rocks.. and Terry, herself.. she was the ship. The teen closed her eyes then. Forcing the sight from her vision. Her chin pressed tightly against her neck and it was only then that she allowed her vision to return.

I hate you..

It?s what she wanted to say. It?s what she wanted to say so bad.

?I..? Terry began. Her voice cut short by the sound of a softly clicking high heel. Her brown eyes looked from cement pavement to the black heels, and then up stocking covered legs - and nothing more. She didn?t allow herself to look further. The hem of Christina?s skirt was enough, and already felt like too much for her to bear. She couldn?t look fully at her. If she did, Terry knew she would be trapped once more.

?I..? It came again, and like before found no other words following after. Another step, another click of those heels, another moment where Terry lifted her sights and took in more of Christina?s image. A suit.. she?s wearing a suit.. echoed her thoughts. It was strange seeing her in such attire. Christina was always a girl who wore her dead brothers old jeans, but now.. A skirt, a suit? This was far too different.

No. No it wasn?t. She wore a skirt that day too -- at the courthouse. It was that thought alone that prompted Terry to create those tightly held fists.

I hate you... I hate you...

?I.. missed you.? It finally came. Her voice and her true feelings. It came with Terry?s face pressing firmly against Christina?s shoulder after she traveled the distance of only five steps to press body to body with the older woman. Her arms wrapped tightly about Christina?s frame and hugged tightly. Not wanting, unwilling to let go.

?You?ve gotten taller.. if I didn?t have these pumps on.? Christina?s voice dwindled away into the brush of wind that beat against their forms in that moment. Terry did not feel the chill from it. She instead felt the warmth of Christina?s arms wrapped around her. Hugging just as tightly as Terry had been hugging her.

?.. You?re clingy, like always.? She said with a soft chuckle.. and all it did was make the girl cling tighter.

?You?ve gotten bigger too, haven?t you? I see some muscle.?

They walked side by side. Hand in hand. The marketplace was so full with many people, yet none of them mattered to Terry. The only thing that did matter was the hand she now squeezed her curled fingers against. Why am I doing this..? This is crazy. Terry?s mind tried desperately to talk her out of what she was doing. This woman was the reason she was shipped to this city in the first place.

?.. A lil?.. I started swimmin?, some basketball too.? Terry looked Christina?s way when she heard the woman chuckle after her words.

?You? Swim? I could never get you jump off the high dive. ?

That memory caused Terry?s cheeks to burn red hot. She looked away and drew her lower lip between teeth. A nibble of a bite came to it as she tried her best to think of something to say. Nothing came at first, at least until Terry drew in a breath, held it, then let it loose as she shrugged.

"Real swimmin?.. you know, the kind they do on TV ?n sh*t..?

?So, no high dives??

?No high dives.?

They looked to one another. Christina?s smile got Terry to do the same. Laughter followed. A share laughed between the two of them.

?I?ll have the oolong tea.?

Terry couldn?t believe what she was hearing. The expression was clearly written across her face, and it was what Christina rose a brow at upon seeing it. Terry tried her best to change her expression. Furrowing her brows some and turning her head away. With her elbow pressed to the table, all she needed to do was left a hand and press it to her chin and mouth. Opting to simply look like she didn?t care at the moment.

but.. she couldn?t help herself. ?Tea?? She said. Peeking over to see a now smirking Christina.

?There?s nothing wrong with it..?

Nothing. Not `nothin?`.. she really has changed.

?This is kinda? too highbrow for me..? Terry admitted. Meeting Christina like this again after four years, and now she was in some tea shop.

?Miss??

Terry was reminded that they weren?t alone. She kept to her same unladylike slouch, but her eyes were not on the waitress. ?... Uh, water.. with lemon.? Terry wasn?t the tea type of person. She might of liked it if she tried, but she was a girl who viewed all tea as either green tea and sweet tea. She had no real taste for any of that, so when the subject of any sort of tea came to mind -- she wasn?t be the first one to raise a hand and ask for some.

There was a quick exhale of a breath. Coming from Christina, the one who held Terry?s attention once more.

?You?re still a kid.. That?s cute.? There was an amused look on her face when she said that.

Terry didn?t like it.. but, perhaps she did. The look alone caused her to turn her sights away - or else risk a feeling of embarrassment - a feeling that came either way.

?Ain?t no kid.. I just don?t like tea.? Terry said. Her voice somewhat muffled by the palm pressing against her lips.

?You might like it if you try it.. You should give it a chance.?

?.. You didn?t give me a chance.? Terry?s voice was low when she said this. But not low enough for the woman sitting across from her to not hear.

The younger girl thought back on her own words and instantly found herself troubled. She hadn?t meant to say that, but it just slipped free. Oddly enough, she didn?t hate herself for it. Even as silence set over their small area, Terry was glad she said it. Them meeting like this.. it was alluring, hypnotic even -- but the spell was fading.

?Why?? She was the one to break the silence.

The more she thought about it, the more angry she began to feel. Why did she even hug her in the first place? Why did she hold her hand? Why was she even here? She told herself that the next time she saw Christina -- she?d hit her. She?d hit her so hard that she wouldn?t be able to recognize her face. But this was a face she couldn?t even look straight at without her heart beating like a drum.

Instead of an answer she was waiting to hear -- a question came instead.

?This isn?t the first time I?ve seen you.. A few days ago, you were with another girl. Who is she??

Christina?s question had Terry tensing in response. There was no doubt in her mind. The girl she asked about, there was only one person. Gabby.

Terry squeezes her eyes closed and tried not to yell. She really wanted to yell. She could feel it welling up in her chest -- begging to be let free. She knew how good it would feel to do that. To just yell, to just scream. But in those seconds of thought, she suppressed the urge. That hand slipping away from her face and found itself placed flat against the table as she leaned back. Terry looked across the table.

?She?s my girlfriend.? She lied. Terry wanted to see something. That something was pain. She hoped to see it -- she wanted to see it so badly.

But all that came from the woman who sat across from her was a sad sort of smile.

?.. She's pretty, I?m jealous.?

Terry grit her teeth some and snorted back. Her arms crossing under her small bust while fingers clenched tightly into fists once more.

?Answer my question.. Why?d yo-?

?What?s her name??

The dodging of her question came again. She shook her head and tried her best to suppress the urge to yell once more.

?Why?d you f**king lie..?!? She snapped. Her voice rose up, enough to cause a few patrons and waitresses to look their way. Christina looked about, but Terry only had eyes for her right now.

It was her idea..

We told her not to.. but she just did it anyway, I mean - I didn?t think she would..

She?s weird.. She had this crazy look on her face.. I couldn?t say no, she might of hurt me, you know?

Terry could still hear Christina?s voice when she took the stand. Her words, much more of them, replayed in her mind as the area around the table fell into silence once more. Neither of them spoke. Christina looked to the window, and Terry at her.

She told herself she wouldn?t forgive her. That she wouldn?t forget what she did. That one day she?d take her revenge and somehow that would set everything straight. But why was it so hard? She hated her. Terry knew she held those feelings, but it was just so hard to commit to it. The rage was there, but there was something else. She couldn?t quite explain it. It was a small part of her that she never allowed others to have ever since Christina betrayed her. It was the small part that had her drawn to the woman the second she saw her again. It was why, even now, she tried her best to restrain herself.

?He was going to tell my mother about us..? Christina?s voice was light when she said that. Terry?s lips tightened, forming into a thin line when she heard.

?So what..? You lied just because he was gonna out you? I ain?t listenin? to this bullsh*t.?

That wasn?t what she wanted to hear. She wanted a better excuse. Something -- something that wasn?t that. She thought it had to be another reason. She thought Christina had feelings for Aaron and she just threw her under the bus so that they could save their own hides. But no, it was this -- Christina wasn?t the bad guy in this new story. No.. she still is.. Terry corrected herself. Christina could've admitted to the both of them being together. She could?ve told the truth.

?.. Terry, please.?

Christina pleaded, but Terry wouldn?t listen. The teen rose from the table and moved to gather her things. Jacket drawn over her form and then messenger bag slung over her shoulder.

?Four years.. ya? made my mom think I?m some f**kin? lost cause, but yanno what? Thanks. If you hadn?t been a f**kin? liar I wouldn?t be where I?m at today. So, really, thanks.?

Terry turned to leave. A step was taken, yet she could move no further. There was a tight grip about her wrist. She turned and looked to the woman who owned that grasping hand.

?I?m only here for another month..? Something was shoved into Terry?s hand then. Christina let go after and gathered her things. The tea she ordered, along with Terry?s water, they were both untouched - but that didn?t stop the older woman from pulling free some money and resting it against the table. She looked to Terry and gave her a pained expression. This was what the younger girl wanted to see before.. but seeing it now, it gave her no pleasure.

They shared no other words. Christina left first, leaving Terry behind to reflect on just happened. Her first clenched, and it was then she remembered that something was placed within it. The teen clicked her tongue and shook her head. Whatever it was, it didn?t matter. She was done with this. Christina, Aaron, everything. It didn?t matter right now.. but if it didn?t matter, why was it so hard for her to just let go and drop whatever it was?

When she uncurled her fingers, she saw it. A folded piece of paper that was crumpled because of her grip. Terry stared at it for the longest of time before finally getting the nerve to unfold and smooth it out against her palm.

Room 118

It said. Just below an address. A hotels name next to it.

The paper was crushed within her fist as she looked to the entrance of the tea shop. ?God dammit..?

God dammit..

Room 118.

How did it come to this? Terry told herself she wouldn?t go. Told herself to just throw away that piece of paper and forget about the meeting, to forget about Christina. But she couldn?t. It wasn?t even 2 PM and she just couldn?t stay away. When the older woman opened the door, it was all Terry needed to grasp at her. They shared no words at first. It was the sounds of lust that filled the room. No, was it really lust? Terry felt something in her heart when she laid in bed with Christina. It felt like a void was filled.. something she hadn?t been able to fill in such a long time. Not with drugs, not with other women.. Not with.. No, that isn?t true.

Gabby?s image filled her thoughts. Why was it her that came to mind?

Terry would rest there on that bed. A thin sheet of fabric covering her nude form. It wasn?t her who put it there, it was Christina who did before she left the bed to visit the restroom. The door was cracked enough, allowing Terry a glimpse of Christina moving about inside that small room. .. Why? She bit down on her bottom lip. Hard enough to cause a sharp pinch of pain to spread over her form. She began to curl. Grasping at those sheets and hugging them close to herself.

This is so f**ked up..

?I have a meeting.? The bathroom door opened even more as Christina spoke. Terry looked her way with a confused expression written all over her features. Christina was at the sink, already dressed and touching up her makeup. ?It shouldn?t take long.. You can stay if you want.? Terry watched as that lipstick was applied.. and - for some strange reason - it made her stomach turn. Maybe it wasn?t that, maybe it was the nonchalant way the other woman spoke.

This was a mistake.. a f**ked up mistake.

?When I get back.. let?s go out. There?s a nice little greek restaurant around the corner.?

Terry kept quiet. The only sounds that came from her would be the sounds of shifting sheets. She turned to rest against her other side. Her back now to the bathroom and the woman within.

?It?s your girlfriend, isn?t it? You?re worried she might see us??

?.. I don?t have a girlfriend.?

God dammit..

Christina laughed. The sound alone caused Terry to tense up even more than she had already been. Stop it.. She found herself wanting to say, but the words wouldn?t come. Terry would just lay there and listen as the older woman continued to laugh.

?I find that hard to believe.. But if you say so.?

Why was she acting so normal? It was like four years ago never happened. Terry hated that. She hated how normal this woman was being. It annoyed her, but it also saddened her. She hadn?t even apologized for what she did. The subject was dropped the second they left the tea shop, and neither of them brought it up again. Why can?t you just say sorry..? Just say somethin?.. Maybe that would make it easier to explain just why she was here. If she could somehow, someway, force herself to think that she somehow forgave Christina and everything was fine again.. but it wasn?t.

She still hated her.. but at the same time - she loved her.

?.. What happened? To Aaron..? She found herself saying. There was a soft click that came from the bathroom. The sound of something touching down against the sink. Terry wouldn?t look to see what it was. No, she kept her back to that door -- even though she truly wanted to turn and just watch Christina like she did those few years ago. She always liked watching her.

Why the question? Why'd she have to ask that? Did she really want to know what happened to the guy that got her into this whole situation in the first place? The reason the house was even lit on fire.. the reason why she was in RhyDin.. the reason Christina lied. She lied because of him, she said, he was going to tell her mother about them. But why did that seem so odd to her? It sounded wrong, she couldn't believe it - not because it didn't sound like something Aaron would do.. but because she couldn't believe Christina had been hiding the fact that she liked women.

?We got married.. We have a son.?

That?s not what Terry wanted to hear.

The silence between them during that moment, and the few before after their first meeting within the marketplace, was becoming some sort of trend. Terry could hear the older girl busy herself within the bathroom. If she didn?t want to speak, neither would she. While words wouldn?t dare leave the teens lips -- it was her mind that was on fire. Christina was married.. she had a son. But she hadn?t even batted an eyelash when they laid together in the very same bed she was still resting upon. Did he force her into the marriage? Both of them were liars -- accessories to the fire and the end result of it. Terry was as well, but..

She couldn?t believe her. It was hard. She really wanted to believe, truly. The same part of her that did. The same part that led her to this hotel was the same that wanted to do nothing but grasp hold of the woman and ask for her to stay. .. I?m so stupid.. A child. You?re still a child. That?s what Christina said. Maybe this whole thing was childish. This whole stupid situation. She shouldn?t be here. She should be studying.. she promised Gabby that she would try her hardest and study for an upcoming math test. But, no.. here she was.

Why was she thinking about Gabby?

?I?m leaving.. ? Was all Christina had to say. Interrupting Terry from her thoughts and inner questions. She rose and looked to the door, but it was already closing behind Christina's calm form. How can she act that way.. Terry closed her eyes. Her face pressed roughly against a pillow and was held there.

She?ll be back..

She said so. After all. But Christina said a lot of things. Not just now, but back then as well. Many things that never came true.. and things that, in the end, hurt Terry. It made her stomach churn and forced her body to curl. She pressed a hand to her upset stomach and closed her eyes tightly.

?I hate you..? she found herself saying. At last. But it fell upon her ears only.. and hers weren?t the ears that the words were meant for.

Christina,

I can?t do this. I can?t just lay in this bed and wait for you. Not anymore. You made your choices in life and I made mine. You never said sorry for what you did, but.. for some reason I don?t want it anymore. I won?t lie - I still have feelings for you. I don?t think that?s ever going away. No matter much time passes, it?s something that will never go away..

But I can choose to walk away from something that?s only going to bring me pain. I may love you, but I hate you as well. I hate you so much that.. in all honesty, I wanted to hurt you. Ever since I left on that bus. I thought of nothing but that one day of getting both Aaron and you back for what you did to me..

I think I?ll thank you instead.

It?s silly, isn?t it? Thanking the person who f**cked everything up? Who put a hand on a bible and swore to tell the truth but lied instead? It?s really silly.. but at the same time, in all honesty, it?s the REAL truth.

I met many amazing people because of what happened. I?m laughing while crying as I write this sentence because I seriously can?t even remember all of their names right now. It?s that many.

This isn?t forgiveness. This is just acceptance.

I accept that you?re a horrible person.

I don?t need you. I don?t want you. Please don?t speak to me again.

Leaving,
Terry.

?.. I should?ve done this a long time ago..? Terry mumbled quietly.

Held within her hand was that heart shaped pendant of a necklace that she had hidden away within her messenger bag. She kept it on her, wherever she went. If there was a way to carry it -- it was there. But now, she finally had no need to carry it any longer. She set it down against the note left at the nightstand and turned to gather her things. It was her turn to leave room 118.. but, unlike Christina, she wouldn?t return.

?I?m a horrible person too.. aren?t I?? Her soft voice returned.

No longer lurking through those halls, no longer within the hotel. Terry took one step after another. Slow, unsure even.. but steps nonetheless. She was moving away, and she made sure not to look back. She looked forward, but in an instant she found her attention drawn to a window. There stood many candles. Some lit, some on display.

Why she did it, she couldn?t put a finger on it.. but she had entered that store -- and now, she was leaving it. Wrapped and carried within her hands was a large glass-held candle. A cinnamon pumpkin scented candle. That?s what she held in her hands.

?.. I hope she likes it.?

?What? I can?t be admirin? the gift my girlfriend got me??
??till I find someone betta?.?

.. maybe it was Terry who, in the end, found someone better.

The small card attached to the wrapped candle only had a few words written.
