The Arena - Close to Midnight
King and Gabby had decided to hang out at the Arena since Gabby had been cooped up in King?s dorm room for most of the week. Everything was going well, especially since Gabby had taken her pain medicine for that broken arm and King had taken Gabby?s pain medicine just because she wanted to. It was all fun and games until Gabby had the great idea of fighting in a ring for the first time...ever.
Fight a dragonkin? Sure, no problem at all. Fight a dragonkin with a sword? Sure, also not a problem. What was the girl?s weapon of choice? A golf club. Yep. Obviously, things couldn?t go downhill from there, right?
Oh but they could. Especially when Gabby decided that Drago was trying to cut her clothing off of her. Then she had screeched for King to save her because he was -gasp- actually coming towards her with that sword. She almost got skewered but the dragonkin proved himself to be a nice sort.
So, after that fight, with Gabby still inside the ring and King standing on the other side of those ropes...
"Hey.." King reached out to take hold of the ropes. Peering up and through them, up at Gabby.
"H-hey, T. So...I'm like...not so tough." Gabby said. Trying to give a little laugh but now it might be more clear as to why she had gotten into that ring...aside from being high as a kite. She had been trying to prove to herself that she wasn't just a scared, weak, little girl. Which she totally -was-!
"Got yourself a 3.5.. that's still pretty tough, even more when you're all banged up." King gripped at those ropes. "Maybe when you're healed up a lil' more you can try again.." She tried to offer her a smile, which she did - but she didn't know if it'd do any good.
She pressed the toe of her shoe into the sand then looked up at King through her lashes. "So, I didn' embarrass ya?"
"Nah, not at all." Still keeping up that smile. "Gonna take more than that.. you tried hard, s'all that matters."
"You make it look so much easier. It ain' so easy when it ain' somebody else doin' it for my entertainment."
"You look like you dancin' with a sword in your hand when you get in here." Gabby continued. Still not climbing through the ropes.
"Yeah.. but I'm used to it. Should let me show you a few moves sometime." King shuffled her feet some. Peering to the side, then back at the other girl.
"I'm sorta maybe...a coward. I don' wanna get all sliced up. Pain sucks and can' always be hopped up on painkillers for broken bones an' shit."
"Don't fight anyone who'll cut you up then.. they got practice swords 'n sh*t." Though King didn't know how far Gabby could go with just doing that. "Don't dwell on it, babygirl.."
?Speakin' of which..." They hadn't been speaking of this but that didn't mean she hadn't been speaking in her head. "...you should be the first person to sign my cast." Waves it a little then winces...stupid shoulder.
"Huh?" Back at Gabby.
"Huh, what?" Leaning forward against the rope to forehead bump with King.
Forehead bumped. King?s lips pursed at that, and she'd reach out for the girl. If she got ahold of her - she'd turn that forehead bump into a kiss to her lips. "Nothin'." She'd mumble.
Gabby turned her head a little so that King's lips pressed to the corner of hers instead of full on...but she lingered there. "You best be careful. Your girl gonna pop up in here and kick both our asses...I ain' in no condition to be kicked 'round again..." Still, she didn't bother to move.
"Naah.. I'll put all the blame on me. Just say I charmed ya'."
Lips curling into a little smirk. She was just about ready to attempt another kiss, but a whistle sounded out from those stairs. Looks like Gabby was right about someone popping. King looked, and there was Alex leaning against those stairs. A point to her watch. King had forgotten all about her till that very second.. Leaving her phone behind on the couch wasn't that smart of her either, that and ignoring it during the match. All those missed texts. King held up a hand and showed off her index finger. Asking for one second. She looked back to Gabby.
"Come back with us.."
"Naah, I'm good." Not missing the fact that King didn't deny who Alex was to her. "I got sh*t to do and so do you. I'll be seein' ya 'round."
It finally occurred to Gabby that everything that had transpired between them was really nothing. Girls like Gabby were a dime a dozen, she realized. That realization would materialize upon her face first as surprise then as something more but only for a split second. She wouldn't allow it to show longer. Whatever it was, was now a beaming smile directed at King.
"You go have some fun, try not to get into too much trouble." She blew the half and half a kiss, like nothing in the world was wrong, and finally pushed herself to take her wobbly legs through those ropes.
After a couple of attempts, she finally was out of the ring, all on her own, and moving to grab her backpack and phone. Tapping the keypad, she nodded towards King. "Donnie'll be here to pick me up soon," she lied, "so, don' be worryin' 'bout me. This wasn' your fault and I release you from watchin' out for me as some sort of penance. I'm good...healin' and everythin'. Thanks for helpin' me out this week, though. You are a good friend."
She almost choked on those last two words because something in her head was screaming something entirely different. Would Gabby give in and tell the truth? Nope...she grabbed her bottle and headed for the steps and past Alex, doing what she did best...walking away.
It was King's bad. She didn't realize any of that -- even now, it was at the back of her mind. She was trying to be silly when she spoke of taking the blame and charming. But in the end it's what she didn't say that looked to bite her on the a**. King would have offered help, but it looked like Gabby had everything going for herself.. so all King could do was stand there and watch. Watch and stand there in a sort of silence when she listened to her speak.
".. It ain't like that.." But Gabby was already walking away.
Alex had offered Gabby a smile when she stepped by, and even a wave, but the blondes main focus looked to be King. When Gabby stepped by, Alex moved to draw herself closer to the half and half and spoke to her. But King? She didn't seem to be listening. She was far too busy looking over the blondes shoulder; just watching Gabby leave. All of this was confusing, and it was written all over her face. She looked down, off to the side, then finally at her friend.
"Hey.." Was all she could really get out.
