She really didn?t have much to move. Furniture and stuff like that was purchased and delivery was arranged for move-in day. She herself had very few belongings, a lot of memories in a few boxes. She didn?t really want the guys coming in and ribbing her about growing up.

Still, she didn?t refuse help when her Uncle showed up with Leo and Kyl in tow. For all intents and purposes, she was Otto?s little girl. Her uncle had stepped in when her parents were murdered by the Sumerian Gallu Demons. Only the intervention of the Sumerian god turned Dark Hunter, Sin, that had saved her life.

The Council had been in an uproar to learn the Gallu had targeted a family with ties to the Squires. Otto flew in from New Orleans to claim her and make arrangements. One look into the haunted eyes of the girl told him that she would be Blood Rites. Not a part of the family business he wanted for his niece, but it was either that or pray she didn?t get herself killed and sworn to Artemis.

He insisted she go to college; get an education. She did just that. She joined him in Seattle upon graduation and began her training in earnest. Otto took her under his wing and started her training in combat. He sent her to Dragon for Martial Arts and melee weapon. She trained in marksmanship and defensive driving.

There was a haunted look in those clear blue eyes that couldn?t be shaken though.

Ash was the one that said they needed a Squire Branch in this new place. He insisted she train with Leo and learn what was needed as a Theti and a Regis. The Council wasn?t happy, but Ash wouldn?t take no for an answer.

Moving day had arrived without a hitch. Furniture was delivered and put into place. Her desktop computer was in place and ready to begin working. She had ordered Pizzas and beer for the guys. There was a brotherhood to the Squires. Every squire was your family in a bond as strong as blood. These three men where all her uncles, though Otto was her blood.

She would miss them?

She was talking on her cellphone later the next evening.

"No J, I'm okay." She rolled her eyes at the mother henning by the Dark Hunter. Her fingers stroked over the four blood red tear drops on the inside of her left wrist. A remembrance of family that had passed. Acheron had told her about the custom when she first met him. She had been feeling so lost.

Granted she was Italian, the Atlantean custom made sense. It also gave her a sense of peace, like she carried the memories close to her. Some days that was all the peace she had. The nightmares of that gruesome scene still haunted her sleep. Today was the anniversary of their deaths, the day that saw her forcibly inducted into the family business. If not for Sin and Katra... She'd be dead herself.

"No, I don't think I need an Oneroi, J." She half smiled. No, what she needed was not to feel so isolated alone.

She looked out at the West End as the sun started setting. "How's Becca?" She knew how to distract the Huntress. The was a smile as she listened to the story over the phone. She honestly liked the Huntress and her girlfriend. She even told Ash that J was in good hands with Becca. Yeah, rules were being broken, but there was only what - 6 or 7 Dark Hunters in this world with a pair of Were-hunters.

She looked at her watch and murmured softly, "It's about time for patrol. I'll catch you ladies later. Oh, Becca's been approved for access." She did the Sysop work herself. Kept her busy to be sure while she planned out a small business on the side.

She disconnected the call after saying her farewells and leaned on the railing. Long brown hair was left loose and flowed on the night winds.

"Starlight, Starbright...
First star I see tonight...
Wish I may, Wish I might...
Have this wish I wish tonight."

She didn't vocalize the wish and she knew deep down it would not come true.

"Anyway, Taya. Anything you need, just ask. Really. I'm behind you, all the way." Max smiled warmly. "And the Librarian is a good choice. Nice tits." he winked playfully.

She slammed into her apartment in tears. She wasn?t sure what she was more outraged at. The fact that this guy, who knew nothing about her complimented her chest or decided to use her as an attack on Mataya. She wasn?t even a Librarian? Just being nasty to her because of her friend.

It bothered even more that he would hurt her friend, but refused to listen. The man was infuriating to the point of getting shot? Well, would have been had Acheron not already told her *no.* He was damn lucky there was a god looking out for his sorry ass. You don't argue with an 11,000 year old Atlantean.

It truly never crossed her mind to be upset at being called a lesbian. Well maybe upset that someone who did not know her at all could publicly declare her sexuality when she didn?t even know it herself. Did this guy have some sort of built in gay-dar or something? It was embarrassing.

She took a soda from the fridge and went out onto her balcony. Leaning over the rail, the tears coursed down her cheeks. She didn?t know what she was. She?d never felt any attraction to any guys she?s met, except for Acheron but than that was due to a curse his aunt placed on him. She didn?t go to prom, because she felt like a freak. Society functions? Wall Flower. Mother had been most concerned? while she was alive. She was a Cavaletti, damnit. She was expected to make a good match.

Once her parents died, grandfather almost insisted on it. Only her Uncle put a stop to their clamoring. Did he see or was it that he was protecting his niece after a tragedy? Sin had told him what happened even as she had clung to Katra. Katra was safe and had killed the Gallu that had attempted to make her his dinner.

She world revolved around feeling very safe with the females in her life and being the little sister of most of the males. She adored her Uncle for obvious reasons. Why was she so different?

Max?s little attack opened the floodgates. She didn?t know and was scared. She was alone for the most part and had no one to talk to. She wasn?t sure how to approach J for help. Who could she turn to?

The tears coursed down her cheeks unabated.
