She'd known the date was coming for a month now, but she'd been putting off the decision until the last possible moment. In her defence, however, she'd had a lot of other things to think about - Faeries, the SSSV, the MoJ...hell, even Daniel moving in had distracted her from plans for the Leopard's birthday.

She'd tried to get a surprise party scraped together and had invited people she'd thought would make for interesting dinner conversation. Unfortunately, most people couldn't come and the party had ended up being dinner with Mindy and Danny on the roof. They'd had tacos, enchiladas, flan, margaritas and fajitas enough to feed an army. When the three of them had eaten more than their fill, Riley had run some food across the street to Oliver and even left some for the curmudgeonly super.

But, as far as presents had gone? Riley hadn't bought a thing until the morning of Danny's actual birthday. Telling him that she'd be going to the office directly after her dawn yoga class, instead of coming back to the loft to have breakfast with him, she instead headed to the Marketplace, wandering slowly through the booths and kiosks and carts, waiting for inspiration to strike.

Jewelry? Nah, she'd never seen him wearing anything more than a watch. Wallet? Nope, he didn't carry one of those either? Cologne? She chuckled at the idea and dismissed it. Oh, god. What the hell was she going to buy her manfriend for his birthday?!

Her eye was caught by a storefront with mannequins in the big glass windows. Clothing? Yes, perfect! Daniel had more of an appreciation for clothing than either of her previous beaus and considering the size of her closet, there was definitely room in it for some more of his things.

She spent an hour browsing the racks and finally ended up with a complete outfit that she knew he'd look amazing in, as well as a few other select pieces that he could mix and match with his existing wardrobe.

She left the shop, carrying four bags stuffed full with her purchases, and went back to the Marketplace. She was looking for something very personal, very meaningful now. What, exactly, that was she had no idea...but she'd know it when she saw it.
