After getting f*cked over by not one but two different play partners in the past three months, I'm kinda left wondering what the hell is wrong with people?

I've put so much time and creative energy into my characters and the stories and worlds I'm creating with others. I'm polite and conscientious about being online at a certain time. If I can't be, I try to let whomever is waiting on me know - if at all possible. If I'm going to be on an extended hiatus - longer than a week, I mean - then I let my partners know that, too. And yet, people constantly seem to not be able to act in the same way. I don't get it.

This is COOPERATIVE role play, people! And the Free Dictionary defines cooperative thusly:

adj.
1. Done in cooperation with others
2. willing to cooperate; helpful

If you're dicking someone over by not showing up and not bothering to let them know you'll not be showing up, or if you're shafting your writing/playing partners by abruptly leaving for greener pastures because you're too impatient to wait for their lives to stop being busy, if you're in any way not cooperating, then you're just sucking someone's time and creative energies away like some kind of f*cking vampire.

I'm beginning to wonder if I mightn't be better off sticking to novel-writing. At least that way I won't be constantly disappointed by people.

And no, this is not directed at anyone who writes here or in the Shaitan Covenant folder. You lot are GOLDEN.

Since lots of people have asked, I've decided to write out a step-by-step tutorial on how to add Polyvore sets to RDI posts. It's kind of complicated and requires a tiny bit of HTML knowledge, but hopefully I can manage not to make it too confusing. If you have questions, please don't hesitate to ask! The pictures in this post get larger if you click on them, by the way.

Step One:

On the individual set's page, there is a link off to the right that says "Embed on your blog". Click it! CLICK IT LIKE YOU MEAN IT!

Step Two:

A little window pops up with assorted stuff on it. What's important here is in the upper left corner. It's a bunch of HTML, or conversely, a bunch of gobbledy-gook. Copy it.

Step Three A:

This is where it gets tricky. I usually use Notepad for this as it's less likely to get screwed up. I suggest you do something similar. Paste all of that HTML into a blank Notepad page.

Step Three B:

Okay. Most of this HTML crap is just that - utter crap. The only thing you need to be concerned with is the tiny snippet that shows where your set's image is located. It's everything between these two arrows:

Step Three C:

Replace all the extraneous crap with two simple little tags.

Copy and paste this entire line of code into a new post on RDI or other BBS.

I just wanted to go on record as saying I've really enjoyed reading the Shanachie Theatre stuff. The way in which it has been incorporated by the Ballet Troupe and has turned into a fun IC rivalry only adds to the richness of the realm.

I've been having major problems with my computer over the last two days. It's been giving me bizarre error messages, BSoD, restarting randomly, freezing...basically being a major pain in my butt. So, long story short, I have no idea when I'll be back online with any regularity. I'm poor and have no money for expensive computer repairs and can only access a working computer during the day.

So, there will be a lag in all my open storylines, with Riley and the other two characters I have, as well. Hopefully, I'll be able to figure out WTF is going on with my retarded computer and will return soon. 'Til then, if any one in Zen has problems or has need of a moderator for whatever reason, please talk to David about it. He's a good guy and doesn't bite...unless you're into that kind of thing. ;-)

This gives me a sad. I've been following Riley's story since I first joined the RDI, and I'm always constantly amazed and envious of the seamless way you and your play partners blend action and dialogue within the narrative.

That said, though, I can understand all to well the need to retire a character when they get a little tired, or stop speaking to you, and I look forward to following other characters and storylines conceived in that astonishing brain of yours!

Rather than bother you with details of threads, I've made a request in the Story Folder Requests thread for certain of 'Taya's threads to be moved, but not all of them. Zen Gardens is always going to have a special place in Mataya De Luca's story.

Alright so I'm mildly confused as to what you foresee this to mean IC-wise for the tenants of your folder while I understand the OOC ramifications and wish you the absolute best with whatever new creative ideas you're following through on ;) I'm just trying to make sure I play it correctly without stepping on toes.

Should Fiora be looking for a new place to live (and a new place to rent out to prospective tenants)? Would you prefer that the Zen Gardens disappear as you're the author of the setting? Do you plan on having an exit strategy of some kind? (ie, disaster the Gardens are no more?) Or were you okay with those still using this as a backdrop to their own storylines just continuing to do so?

That's folder questions off the top of my head, character questions include: Will "we" the characters know the fate of Riley and David? Is this going to be one of those Nexus-strange events that are so useful for explaining the disappearance when IRL and mun-related decisions effect the flow of the story?

Or these questions all just a little too much for someone who simply wanted to disappear?

Would you prefer to answer me in PM? Would you prefer to answer me not at all and leave it up to my discretion? Would you prefer green eggs and ham?

Okay. To answer Fiora's questions in order (hopefully):

1. The setting will still be in Rhy'Din. Zen Gardens is more than Riley and David at this point - especially since neither of them have lived in the Gardens for nearly a year now - and is sort of an institution by now...or so I like to delude myself into thinking. The building, its residents, and its businesses will still be around after I quit playing on RDI. No one has to move, no one has to find a different job, nothing will change. Your characters can still live here and you can still continue writing about the setting as you do now.

2. As no one seems to care much about what's going on with Riley and David right now, I don't really feel it necessary to wrap up their stories or make their sudden disappearance "logical" or even explain it. We haven't played them in public in months, haven't written anything for their stories in weeks, so there won't be much change from what's going on now, which is basically nothing.

So, that's it. Hopefully I've cleared up any confusion and if you have any further questions, please feel free to post 'em here.

Last night, I dragged David over to RoH because I got it in my head that I wanted to try out this duelling thing that I've heard so much hub-bub about lately. I'll admit to being wicked nervous about the whole affair since there's nothing I hate more than looking like a complete idiot in public. But finally, I said screw it and jumped in with both feet.

Holy crap, but I had FUN! It wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be and I'll definitely be back to check out the DoF Monday night.

I want to thank Harris for being so freakin' awesome and patient with me when I was peppering him with questions as he was fighting his own duels. He's been bugging me for, like, two years now to try duelling and thanks to him, I did and I liked it.

Also thanks to Delahada and his wonderful player for--excuse the turn of phrase--popping my duelling cherry. I had a great time, even though Sal handily handed (heh) Riley her butt! I'll be studying the matrices and playing around with the practise programme and then I want a rematch!

And thanks, too, to Imp for being patient and understanding with me.

I heartily recommend checking out the duels if you're even the least bit curious. I'm awfully glad I did!

No lie. When I saw "Riley Lo has entered the room" I was like :shock:

And then, when I saw she was carrying a giant sword with her, I realized you were obviously there to give dueling a try, so I was all :grin:

There was probably a lot more to that glee, like dancing in my seat and "SWEET BEANS!"

And I was watching, and reading, even during my own duel, how Riley was waiting for Duci to show up. I wasn't even sure I was going to do another duel anyway, because I've been doing good lately and my track record tells me that when I get all big-headed about winning and duel more than like once a week I ruin everything. XD

But! When Riley was like, "Screw it. Sal! Fight me!" That's when I was bouncing up and down in my seat and tittering madly with glee. :lol:

I'm so, SO glad you had a good time and can't wait to see you make a come-back! Sal's a jerk. Of course he wasn't going to go easy on her. I've been trying to work that into his character that he's realizing when he holds back and doesn't let himself be the rabid blood-thirsty maniac he really is inside, in the rings, then that's usually when I fail. XD So I hope Riley lets her inner animal out soon too. ;)

Okay, so it's been a couple of months since I killed off Riley and I'm sure that some of you have been wondering why I made this decision.

Well, it's because I decided it was high time for me to get serious about becoming a published novelist. It's something I've wanted to do for the better part of my entire life and half-way through November, while I was participating in NaNoWriMo, it hit me--instead of trying to come up with a brand-new story with new characters and a new plot line, why not just gather together everything I've written for and about Riley since I first created her back in 2001, and use the best bits and pieces to write a book?

So, that's what I'm doing. I'm 60,000 words and seventeen chapters into the first book of a trilogy that will be coming out in November of this year.
